Al-Mutaffifin (#83)

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ waylul lil-muṭaffifīn Woe to the defrauders, who use short measures,
2
ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ alladhīna idhak-tālū `alan nāsi yastawfūn who, when they measure [a commodity bought] from the people, take the full measure,
3
وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ wa idhā kālūhum aw wazanūhum yukhsirūn but diminish when they measure or weigh for them.
4
أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ alā yaẓunnu ulā-ika annahum mab`ūthūn Do they not know that they will be resurrected
5
لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ liyawmin `aẓīm on a tremendous day,
6
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ yawma yaqūmun nāsu lirabbil `ālamīn a day when mankind will stand before the Lord of all the worlds?
7
كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍ kallā inna kitābal fujjāri lafī sijjīn Indeed, the record of the vicious is in Sijjeen.
8
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ wa mā adrāka mā sijjīn And what will show you what is Sijjeen?
9
كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ kitābun marqūm It is a written record.
10
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ waylun yawma-idhin lil-mukadhhibīn Woe to the deniers on that day,
11
ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ alladhīna yukadhhibūna biyawmid dīn who deny the Day of Retribution;
12
وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ wa mā yukadhhibu bihi illā kullu mu`tadin athīm and none denies it except every sinful transgressor.
13
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ idhā tutlā `alayhi āyātunā qāla asāṭīrul-awwalīn When Our signs are recited to him, he says, ‘Myths of the ancients!’
14
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ kallā ۖ bal ۜ rāna `alā qulūbihim mā kānū yaksibūn No, that is not the case! Rather, their hearts have been sullied by what they have been earning.
15
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ kallā innahum `an rabbihim yawma-idhin lamaḥjūbūn Indeed, they will be alienated from their Lord on that day.
16
ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ thumma innahum laṣālul jaḥīm Afterward they will enter hell,
17
ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ thumma yuqālu hādhal ladhī kuntum bihi tukadhhibūn then told, ‘This is what you used to deny!’
18
كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ kallā inna kitābal-abrāri lafī `illiyyīn Indeed, the record of the pious is in Illeeyun.
19
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ wa mā adrāka mā `illiyyūn And what will show you what is Illeeyun?
20
كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ kitābun marqūm It is a written record,
21
يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ yash-haduhul muqarrabūn witnessed by those brought near [to Allah].
22
إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ innal-abrāra lafī na`īm The pious shall be amid bliss,
23
عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ `alal-arā-iki yanẓurūn observing, [as they recline] on couches.
24
تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ta`rifu fī wujūhihim naḍratan na`īm You will perceive in their faces the freshness of bliss.
25
يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ yusqawna min raḥīqin makhtūm They will be served with a sealed pure wine,
26
خِتَـٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَـٰفِسُونَ khitāmuhu misk ۚ wafī dhālika falyatanāfasil mutanāfisūn whose seal is musk—for such let the viers vie—
27
وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ wa mizājuhu min tasnīm and whose seasoning is from Tasneem,
28
عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ `aynan yashrabu bihal muqarrabūn a spring where those brought near [to Allah] drink.
29
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ innal ladhīna ajramū kānū minal ladhīna āmanū yaḍ-ḥakūn Indeed the guilty used to laugh at the faithful,
30
وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ wa idhā marrū bihim yataghāmazūn and when they passed them by they would wink at each other,
31
وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ wa idhan-qalabū ilā ahlihimun-qalabū fakihīn and when they returned to their folks they would return amused,
32
وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ wa idhā ra-awhum qālū inna hā-ulā-i laḍāllūn and when they saw them they would say, ‘Indeed those are the astray!’
33
وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَـٰفِظِينَ wa mā ursilū `alayhim ḥāfiẓīn Though they were not sent to watch over them.
34
فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ fal yawmal ladhīna āmanū minal kuffāri yaḍ-ḥakūn So today the faithful will laugh at the faithless,
35
عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ `alal-arā-iki yanẓurūn observing from their couches:
36
هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ hal thuwwibal kuffāru mā kānū yaf`alūn Have the faithless been requited for what they used to do?
