بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلْأَنفَالِ ۖ قُلِ ٱلْأَنفَالُ لِلَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ ۖ فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَصْلِحُوا۟ ذَاتَ بَيْنِكُمْ ۖ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥٓ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ yas-alūnaka `anil-anfāl ۖ qulil-anfālu lillāhi war rasūl ۖ fattaqullāha wa-aṣliḥū dhāta baynikum ۖ wa-aṭī`ullāha warasūlahu in kuntum mu-minīn They ask you concerning the anfaal. Say, ‘The anfaal belong to Allah and the Apostle.’ So be wary of Allah and settle your differences, and obey Allah and His Apostle, should you be faithful.
2
إِنَّمَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ ٱللَّهُ وَجِلَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَإِذَا تُلِيَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَـٰتُهُۥ زَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَـٰنًا وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ innamal mu-minūnal ladhīna idhā dhukirallāhu wajilat qulūbuhum wa idhā tuliyat `alayhim āyātuhu zādat-hum-iymānan wa`alā rabbihim yatawakkalūn The faithful are only those whose hearts tremble [with awe] when Allah is mentioned, and when His signs are recited to them, they increase their faith, and who put their trust in their Lord,
3
ٱلَّذِينَ يُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَمِمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ يُنفِقُونَ alladhīna yuqīmūnaṣ ṣalāta wa mimmā razaqnāhum yunfiqūn maintain the prayer and spend out of what We have provided them.
4
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ حَقًّا ۚ لَّهُمْ دَرَجَـٰتٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ وَرِزْقٌ كَرِيمٌ ulā-ika humul mu-minūna ḥaqqā ۚ lahum darajātun `inda rabbihim wa maghfiratun warizqun karīm It is they who are truly the faithful. They shall have ranks near their Lord, forgiveness and a noble provision.
5
كَمَآ أَخْرَجَكَ رَبُّكَ مِنۢ بَيْتِكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّ فَرِيقًا مِّنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ لَكَـٰرِهُونَ kamā akhrajaka rabbuka min baytika bil ḥaqqi wa inna farīqan minal mu-minīna lakārihūn As your Lord brought you out from your home with a just cause, a part of the faithful were indeed reluctant.
6
يُجَـٰدِلُونَكَ فِى ٱلْحَقِّ بَعْدَ مَا تَبَيَّنَ كَأَنَّمَا يُسَاقُونَ إِلَى ٱلْمَوْتِ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ yujādilūnaka fil ḥaqqi ba`da mā tabayyana ka-annamā yusāqūna ilal-mawti wahum yanẓurūn They disputed with you concerning the truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven towards death as they looked on.
7
وَإِذْ يَعِدُكُمُ ٱللَّهُ إِحْدَى ٱلطَّآئِفَتَيْنِ أَنَّهَا لَكُمْ وَتَوَدُّونَ أَنَّ غَيْرَ ذَاتِ ٱلشَّوْكَةِ تَكُونُ لَكُمْ وَيُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَن يُحِقَّ ٱلْحَقَّ بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ وَيَقْطَعَ دَابِرَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ wa idh ya`idukumullāhu iḥdaṭ ṭā-ifatayni annahā lakum watawaddūna anna ghayra dhātish shawkati takūnu lakum wayurīdullāhu an yuḥiqqal ḥaqqa bikalimātihi wayaqṭa`a dābiral kāfirīn When Allah promised you [victory over] one of the two companies, [saying], ‘It is for you,’ you were eager that it should be the one that was unarmed. But Allah desires to confirm the truth with His words, and to root out the faithless,
8
لِيُحِقَّ ٱلْحَقَّ وَيُبْطِلَ ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ وَلَوْ كَرِهَ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ liyuḥiqqal ḥaqqa wayubṭilal-bāṭila walaw karihal mujrimūn so that He may confirm the truth and bring falsehood to naught, though the guilty should be averse.
9
إِذْ تَسْتَغِيثُونَ رَبَّكُمْ فَٱسْتَجَابَ لَكُمْ أَنِّى مُمِدُّكُم بِأَلْفٍ مِّنَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ مُرْدِفِينَ idh tastaghīthūna rabbakum fastajāba lakum annī mumiddukum bi-alfin minal malā-ikati murdifīn When you appealed to your Lord for help, He answered you: ‘I will aid you with a thousand angels in a file.’
10
وَمَا جَعَلَهُ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بُشْرَىٰ وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّ بِهِۦ قُلُوبُكُمْ ۚ وَمَا ٱلنَّصْرُ إِلَّا مِنْ عِندِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ wa mā ja`alahullāhu illā bushrā walitaṭma-inna bihi qulūbukum ۚ wa man naṣru illā min `indillāh ۚ innallāha `azīzun ḥakīm Allah did not appoint it but as a good news, and to reassure your hearts. Victory comes only from Allah. Indeed Allah is all-mighty, all-wise.
11
إِذْ يُغَشِّيكُمُ ٱلنُّعَاسَ أَمَنَةً مِّنْهُ وَيُنَزِّلُ عَلَيْكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً لِّيُطَهِّرَكُم بِهِۦ وَيُذْهِبَ عَنكُمْ رِجْزَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ وَلِيَرْبِطَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِكُمْ وَيُثَبِّتَ بِهِ ٱلْأَقْدَامَ idh yughashhīkumun nu`āsa amanatan minhu wayunazzilu `alaykum minas samā-i mā-an liyuṭahhirakum bihi wayudh-hiba `ankum rijzash shayṭāni waliyarbiṭa `alā qulūbikum wayuthabbita bihil-aqdām When He covered you with a trance as a [sense of] security from Him, and He sent down water from the sky to purify you with it, and to repel from you the defilement of Satan, and to fortify your hearts, and to make [your] feet steady with it.
12
إِذْ يُوحِى رَبُّكَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ أَنِّى مَعَكُمْ فَثَبِّتُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ۚ سَأُلْقِى فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱلرُّعْبَ فَٱضْرِبُوا۟ فَوْقَ ٱلْأَعْنَاقِ وَٱضْرِبُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ كُلَّ بَنَانٍ idh yūḥī rabbuka ilal-malā-ikati annī ma`akum fathabbitul ladhīna āmanū ۚ sa-ulqī fī qulūbil ladhīna kafarur ru`ba faḍribū fawqal-a`nāqi waḍribū minhum kulla banān Then your Lord signaled to the angels: ‘I am indeed with you; so steady the faithful. I will cast terror into the hearts of the faithless. So strike their necks, and strike their every limb joint!’
13
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ شَآقُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ ۚ وَمَن يُشَاقِقِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ dhālika bi-annahum shāqqullāha warasūlah ۚ wa man yushāqiqillāha warasūlahu fa-innallāha shadīdul `iqāb That, because they defied Allah and His Apostle. And whoever defies Allah and His Apostle, Allah is indeed severe in retribution.
14
ذَٰلِكُمْ فَذُوقُوهُ وَأَنَّ لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ عَذَابَ ٱلنَّارِ dhālikum fadhūqūhu wa-anna lilkāfirīna `adhāban nār ‘Taste this, and [know] that for the faithless is the punishment of the Fire.’
15
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا لَقِيتُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ زَحْفًا فَلَا تُوَلُّوهُمُ ٱلْأَدْبَارَ yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanū idhā laqītumul ladhīna kafarū zaḥfan falā tuwallūhumul-adbār O you who have faith! When you encounter the faithless advancing [for battle], do not turn your backs [to flee] from them.
16
وَمَن يُوَلِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ دُبُرَهُۥٓ إِلَّا مُتَحَرِّفًا لِّقِتَالٍ أَوْ مُتَحَيِّزًا إِلَىٰ فِئَةٍ فَقَدْ بَآءَ بِغَضَبٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَمَأْوَىٰهُ جَهَنَّمُ ۖ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ wa man yuwallihim yawma-idhin duburahu illā mutaḥarrifal liqitālin aw mutaḥayyizan ilā fi-atin faqad bā-a bighaḍabin minallāhi wa ma-wāhu jahannam ۖ wabi-sal maṣīr Whoever turns his back [to flee] from them that day—unless [he is] diverting to fight or retiring towards another troop—shall certainly earn Allah’s wrath, and his refuge shall be hell, an evil destination.
17
فَلَمْ تَقْتُلُوهُمْ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَتَلَهُمْ ۚ وَمَا رَمَيْتَ إِذْ رَمَيْتَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ رَمَىٰ ۚ وَلِيُبْلِىَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْهُ بَلَآءً حَسَنًا ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ falam taqtulūhum walākinnallāha qatalahum ۚ wa mā ramayta idh ramayta walākinnallāha ramā ۚ waliyubliyal mu-minīna minhu balā-an ḥasanā ۚ innallāha samī`un `alīm You did not kill them; rather, it was Allah who killed them; and you did not throw when you threw, rather, it was Allah who threw, that He might test the faithful with a good test from Himself. Indeed Allah is all-hearing, all-knowing.
18
ذَٰلِكُمْ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مُوهِنُ كَيْدِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ dhālikum wa-annallāha mūhinu kaydil kāfirīn Such is the case, and [know] that Allah undermines the stratagems of the faithless.
19
إِن تَسْتَفْتِحُوا۟ فَقَدْ جَآءَكُمُ ٱلْفَتْحُ ۖ وَإِن تَنتَهُوا۟ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ ۖ وَإِن تَعُودُوا۟ نَعُدْ وَلَن تُغْنِىَ عَنكُمْ فِئَتُكُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَلَوْ كَثُرَتْ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ in tastaftiḥū faqad jā-akumul fat-ḥ ۖ wa in tantahū fahuwa khayrul lakum ۖ wa in ta`ūdū na`ud walan tughniya `ankum fi-atukum shay-an walaw kathurat wa-annallāha ma`al mu-minīn If you sought a verdict, the verdict has certainly come to you; and if you cease [your belligerence against the Prophet and his followers], it is better for you, but if you resume, We [too] shall return and your troops will never avail you though they should be ever so many, and [know] that Allah is with the faithful.
20
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَلَا تَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ وَأَنتُمْ تَسْمَعُونَ yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanū aṭī`ullāha warasūlahu walā tawallaw `anhu wa-antum tasma`ūn O you who have faith! Obey Allah and His Apostle, and do not turn away from him while you hear [him].
21
وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوا۟ سَمِعْنَا وَهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ walā takūnū kal ladhīna qālū sami`nā wahum lā yasma`ūn Do not be like those who say, ‘We hear,’ though they do not hear.
22
إِنَّ شَرَّ ٱلدَّوَآبِّ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلصُّمُّ ٱلْبُكْمُ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ inna sharrad dawābbi `indallāhiṣ ṣummul bukmul ladhīna lā ya`qilūn Indeed the worst of beasts in Allah’s sight are the deaf and dumb who do not exercise their reason.
23
وَلَوْ عَلِمَ ٱللَّهُ فِيهِمْ خَيْرًا لَّأَسْمَعَهُمْ ۖ وَلَوْ أَسْمَعَهُمْ لَتَوَلَّوا۟ وَّهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ walaw `alimallāhu fīhim khayral la-asma`ahum ۖ walaw asma`ahum latawallaw wahum mu`riḍūn Had Allah known any good in them, He would have surely made them hear, and were He to make them hear, surely they would turn away, being disregardful.
24
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ لِمَا يُحْيِيكُمْ ۖ وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَحُولُ بَيْنَ ٱلْمَرْءِ وَقَلْبِهِۦ وَأَنَّهُۥٓ إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanus-tajībū lillāhi walirrasūli idhā da`ākum limā yuḥyīkum ۖ wa`lamū annallāha yaḥūlu baynal mar-i waqalbihi wa-annahu ilayhi tuḥsharūn O you who have faith! Answer Allah and the Apostle when he summons you to that which will give you life. Know that Allah intervenes between a man and his heart and that toward Him you will be mustered.
25
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ فِتْنَةً لَّا تُصِيبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنكُمْ خَآصَّةً ۖ وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ شَدِيدُ ٱلْعِقَابِ wattaqū fitnatan lā tuṣībannal ladhīna ẓalamū minkum khāṣṣah ۖ wa`lamū annallāha shadīdul `iqāb And beware of a punishment, which shall not visit the wrongdoers among you exclusively, and know that Allah is severe in retribution.
26
وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ إِذْ أَنتُمْ قَلِيلٌ مُّسْتَضْعَفُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ تَخَافُونَ أَن يَتَخَطَّفَكُمُ ٱلنَّاسُ فَـَٔاوَىٰكُمْ وَأَيَّدَكُم بِنَصْرِهِۦ وَرَزَقَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ wadhkurū idh antum qalīlun mustaḍ`afūna fil-arḍi takhāfūna an yatakhaṭṭafakumun nāsu fa-āwākum wa-ayyadakum binaṣrihi warazaqakum minaṭ ṭayyibāti la`allakum tashkurūn Remember when you were few, abased in the land, and feared lest the people should despoil you, and He gave you refuge, and strengthened you with His help, and provided you with all the good things so that you may give thanks.
27
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَخُونُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱلرَّسُولَ وَتَخُونُوٓا۟ أَمَـٰنَـٰتِكُمْ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanū lā takhūnullāha war rasūla watakhūnū amānātikum wa-antum ta`lamūn O you who have faith! Do not betray Allah and the Apostle, and do not betray your trusts knowingly.
28
وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّمَآ أَمْوَٰلُكُمْ وَأَوْلَـٰدُكُمْ فِتْنَةٌ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ عِندَهُۥٓ أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ wa`lamū annamā amwālukum wa-awlādukum fitnatun wa-annallāha `indahu ajrun `aẓīm Know that your possessions and children are only a test, and that Allah—with Him is a great reward.
29
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن تَتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ يَجْعَل لَّكُمْ فُرْقَانًا وَيُكَفِّرْ عَنكُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو ٱلْفَضْلِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanū in tattaqullāha yaj`al lakum furqānan wayukaffir `ankum sayyi-ātikum wayaghfir lakum ۗ wallāhu dhul faḍlil `aẓīm O you who have faith! If you are wary of Allah, He shall appoint a criterion for you, and absolve you of your misdeeds, and forgive you, for Allah is dispenser of a great grace.
30
وَإِذْ يَمْكُرُ بِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيُثْبِتُوكَ أَوْ يَقْتُلُوكَ أَوْ يُخْرِجُوكَ ۚ وَيَمْكُرُونَ وَيَمْكُرُ ٱللَّهُ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ خَيْرُ ٱلْمَـٰكِرِينَ wa idh yamkuru bikal ladhīna kafarū liyuthbitūka aw yaqtulūka aw yukhrijūk ۚ wayamkurūna wayamkurullāh ۖ wallāhu khayrul mākirīn When the faithless plotted against you to take you captive, or to kill or expel you—they plotted and Allah devised, and Allah is the best of devisers.
31
وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالُوا۟ قَدْ سَمِعْنَا لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَقُلْنَا مِثْلَ هَـٰذَآ ۙ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ wa idhā tutlā `alayhim āyātunā qālū qad sami`nā law nashā-u laqulnā mithla hādhā in hādhā illā asāṭīrul-awwalīn When Our signs are recited to them, they say, ‘We have heard already. If we want, we [too] can say like this. These are nothing but myths of the ancients.’
32
وَإِذْ قَالُوا۟ ٱللَّهُمَّ إِن كَانَ هَـٰذَا هُوَ ٱلْحَقَّ مِنْ عِندِكَ فَأَمْطِرْ عَلَيْنَا حِجَارَةً مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ أَوِ ٱئْتِنَا بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ wa idh qālullāhumma in kāna hādhā huwal ḥaqqa min `indika fa-amṭir `alaynā ḥijāratan minas samā-i awi-tinā bi`adhābin alīm And when they said, ‘O Allah, if this be the truth from You, rain down upon us stones from the sky, or bring us a painful punishment.’
33
وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَأَنتَ فِيهِمْ ۚ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ wa mā kānallāhu liyu`adhhibahum wa-anta fīhim ۚ wa mā kānallāhu mu`adhhibahum wahum yastaghfirūn But Allah will not punish them while you are in their midst, nor will Allah punish them while they plead for forgiveness.
34
وَمَا لَهُمْ أَلَّا يُعَذِّبَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَهُمْ يَصُدُّونَ عَنِ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ وَمَا كَانُوٓا۟ أَوْلِيَآءَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنْ أَوْلِيَآؤُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ wa mā lahum allā yu`adhhibahumullāhu wahum yaṣuddūna `anil masjidil ḥarāmi wa mā kānū awliyā-ah ۚ in awliyā-uhu illal-muttaqūna walākinna aktharahum lā ya`lamūn What [excuse] have they that Allah should not punish them, when they bar [the faithful] from the Holy Mosque, and they are not its custodians? Its custodians are only the Godwary, but most of them do not know.
35
وَمَا كَانَ صَلَاتُهُمْ عِندَ ٱلْبَيْتِ إِلَّا مُكَآءً وَتَصْدِيَةً ۚ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ wa mā kāna ṣalātuhum `indal bayti illā mukā-an wataṣdiyah ۚ fadhūqul `adhāba bimā kuntum takfurūn Their prayer at the House is nothing but whistling and clapping. So taste the punishment because of what you used to defy.
36
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُنفِقُونَ أَمْوَٰلَهُمْ لِيَصُدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ فَسَيُنفِقُونَهَا ثُمَّ تَكُونُ عَلَيْهِمْ حَسْرَةً ثُمَّ يُغْلَبُونَ ۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ جَهَنَّمَ يُحْشَرُونَ innal ladhīna kafarū yunfiqūna amwālahum liyaṣuddū `an sabīlillāh ۚ fasayunfiqūnahā thumma takūnu `alayhim ḥasratan thumma yughlabūn ۗ wal ladhīna kafarū ilā jahannama yuḥsharūn Indeed the faithless spend their wealth to bar from the way of Allah. Soon they will have spent it, then it will be a cause of regret to them, then they will be overcome, and the faithless will be gathered toward Hell,
37
لِيَمِيزَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْخَبِيثَ مِنَ ٱلطَّيِّبِ وَيَجْعَلَ ٱلْخَبِيثَ بَعْضَهُۥ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فَيَرْكُمَهُۥ جَمِيعًا فَيَجْعَلَهُۥ فِى جَهَنَّمَ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ liyamīzallāhul khabītha minaṭ ṭayyibi wayaj`alal-khabītha ba`ḍahu `alā ba`ḍin fayarkumahu jamī`an fayaj`alahu fī jahannam ۚ ulā-ika humul khāsirūn so that Allah may separate the bad ones from the good, and place the bad on one another, and pile them up together, and cast them into hell. It is they who are the losers.
38
قُل لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِن يَنتَهُوا۟ يُغْفَرْ لَهُم مَّا قَدْ سَلَفَ وَإِن يَعُودُوا۟ فَقَدْ مَضَتْ سُنَّتُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ qul lilladhīna kafarū in yantahū yughfar lahum mā qad salafa wa in ya`ūdū faqad maḍat sunnatul-awwalīn Say to the faithless, if they cease [their belligerence against the Muslims], what is already past shall be forgiven them. But if they resume [their hostilities], then the precedent of the predecessors has already come to pass.
39
وَقَـٰتِلُوهُمْ حَتَّىٰ لَا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ وَيَكُونَ ٱلدِّينُ كُلُّهُۥ لِلَّهِ ۚ فَإِنِ ٱنتَهَوْا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ waqātilūhum ḥattā lā takūna fitnatun wayakūnad dīnu kulluhu lillāh ۚ fa-inin-tahaw fa-innallāha bimā ya`malūna baṣīr Fight them until persecution is no more, and religion becomes exclusively for Allah. So if they desist, Allah indeed watches what they do.
40

42
إِذْ أَنتُم بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَهُم بِٱلْعُدْوَةِ ٱلْقُصْوَىٰ وَٱلرَّكْبُ أَسْفَلَ مِنكُمْ ۚ وَلَوْ تَوَاعَدتُّمْ لَٱخْتَلَفْتُمْ فِى ٱلْمِيعَـٰدِ ۙ وَلَـٰكِن لِّيَقْضِىَ ٱللَّهُ أَمْرًا كَانَ مَفْعُولًا لِّيَهْلِكَ مَنْ هَلَكَ عَنۢ بَيِّنَةٍ وَيَحْيَىٰ مَنْ حَىَّ عَنۢ بَيِّنَةٍ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَسَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ idh antum bil `udwatid dunyā wahum bil `udwatil quṣwā war rakbu asfala minkum ۚ walaw tawā`adtum lakhtalaftum fil mī`ādi walākin liyaqḍiyallāhu amran kāna maf`ūlal liyahlika man halaka `an bayyinatin wayaḥyā man ḥayya `an bayyinah ۗ wa innallāha lasamī`un `alīm When you were on the nearer side, and they on the farther side, while the caravan was below you, and had you agreed together on an encounter, you would have certainly failed to keep the tryst, but in order that Allah may carry through a matter that was bound to be fulfilled, so that he who perishes might perish by a manifest proof, and he who lives may live on by a manifest proof, and Allah is indeed all-hearing, all-knowing.
43
إِذْ يُرِيكَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فِى مَنَامِكَ قَلِيلًا ۖ وَلَوْ أَرَىٰكَهُمْ كَثِيرًا لَّفَشِلْتُمْ وَلَتَنَـٰزَعْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَمْرِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَلَّمَ ۗ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ idh yurīkahumullāhu fī manāmika qalīlā ۖ walaw arākahum kathīral lafashiltum walatanāza`tum fil-amri walākinnallāha sallam ۗ innahu `alīmun bidhātiṣ ṣudūr When Allah showed them to you as few in your dream, and had He shown them as many, you would have lost heart, and disputed about the matter. But Allah spared you. Indeed He knows well what is in the breasts.
44
وَإِذْ يُرِيكُمُوهُمْ إِذِ ٱلْتَقَيْتُمْ فِىٓ أَعْيُنِكُمْ قَلِيلًا وَيُقَلِّلُكُمْ فِىٓ أَعْيُنِهِمْ لِيَقْضِىَ ٱللَّهُ أَمْرًا كَانَ مَفْعُولًا ۗ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ تُرْجَعُ ٱلْأُمُورُ wa idh yurīkumūhum idhil taqaytum fī a`yunikum qalīlan wayuqallilukum fī a`yunihim liyaqḍiyallāhu amran kāna maf`ūlā ۗ wa ilallāhi turja`ul-umūr And when He showed them to you as few in your eyes, when you met them [on the battlefield], and He made you [appear] few in their eyes, [it was] in order that Allah may carry through a matter that was bound to be fulfilled, and to Allah all matters are returned.
45
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِذَا لَقِيتُمْ فِئَةً فَٱثْبُتُوا۟ وَٱذْكُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرًا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanū idhā laqītum fi-atan fathbutū wadhkurullāha kathīral la`allakum tufliḥūn O you who have faith! When you meet a host [in battle], then stand firm, and remember Allah greatly so that you may be felicitous.
46
وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ وَلَا تَنَـٰزَعُوا۟ فَتَفْشَلُوا۟ وَتَذْهَبَ رِيحُكُمْ ۖ وَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ wa-aṭī`ullāha warasūlahu walā tanāza`ū fatafshalū watadh-haba rīḥukum ۖ waṣbirū ۚ innallāha ma`aṣ ṣābirīn And obey Allah and His Apostle, and do not dispute, or you will lose heart and your power will be gone. And be patient; indeed Allah is with the patient.
47
وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّذِينَ خَرَجُوا۟ مِن دِيَـٰرِهِم بَطَرًا وَرِئَآءَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ walā takūnū kal ladhīna kharajū min diyārihim baṭaran wari-ā-an nāsi wayaṣuddūna `an sabīlillāh ۚ wallāhu bimā ya`malūna muḥīṭ Do not be like those who left their homes vainly and to show off to the people, and to bar [other people] from the way of Allah, and Allah comprehends what they do.

I see what you do not see. Indeed I fear Allah, and Allah is severe in retribution.’
49
إِذْ يَقُولُ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقُونَ وَٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ غَرَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ دِينُهُمْ ۗ وَمَن يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ idh yaqūlul munāfiqūna wal ladhīna fī qulūbihim maraḍun gharra hā-ulā-i dīnuhum ۗ wa man yatawakkal `alallāhi fa-innallāha `azīzun ḥakīm When the hypocrites said, and [also] those in whose hearts is a sickness, ‘Their religion has deceived them.’ But whoever puts his trust in Allah, then Allah is indeed all-mighty, all-wise.

Indeed Allah is all-strong, severe in retribution.
53
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَمْ يَكُ مُغَيِّرًا نِّعْمَةً أَنْعَمَهَا عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍ حَتَّىٰ يُغَيِّرُوا۟ مَا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ ۙ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ dhālika bi-annallāha lam yaku mughayyiran ni`matan an`amahā `alā qawmin ḥattā yughayyirū mā bi-anfusihim wa-annallāha samī`un `alīm That is because Allah never changes a blessing that He has bestowed on a people unless they change what is in their own souls, and Allah is all-hearing, all-knowing:

55

56
ٱلَّذِينَ عَـٰهَدتَّ مِنْهُمْ ثُمَّ يَنقُضُونَ عَهْدَهُمْ فِى كُلِّ مَرَّةٍ وَهُمْ لَا يَتَّقُونَ alladhīna `āhadta minhum thumma yanquḍūna `ahdahum fī kulli marratin wahum lā yattaqūn —Those with whom you made a treaty, and who violated their treaty every time, and who are not Godwary.
57
فَإِمَّا تَثْقَفَنَّهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَرْبِ فَشَرِّدْ بِهِم مَّنْ خَلْفَهُمْ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ fa-immā tathqafannahum fil ḥarbi fasharrid bihim man khalfahum la`allahum yadhhakkarūn So if you confront them in battle, treat them [in such a wise] as to disperse those who are behind them, so that they may take admonition.
58
وَإِمَّا تَخَافَنَّ مِن قَوْمٍ خِيَانَةً فَٱنۢبِذْ إِلَيْهِمْ عَلَىٰ سَوَآءٍ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْخَآئِنِينَ wa immā takhāfanna min qawmin khiyānatan fanbidh ilayhim `alā sawā-i ۚ innallāha lā yuḥibbul khā-inīn And if you fear treachery from a people, break off [the treaty] with them in a like manner. Indeed Allah does not like the treacherous.
59
وَلَا يَحْسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ سَبَقُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ لَا يُعْجِزُونَ walā yaḥsabannal ladhīna kafarū sabaqū ۚ innahum lā yu`jizūn Let the faithless not suppose that they have outmanoeuvred [Allah]. Indeed, they cannot frustrate [His power].
60

And whatever you spend in the way of Allah will be repaid to you in full, and you will not be wronged.
61
وَإِن جَنَحُوا۟ لِلسَّلْمِ فَٱجْنَحْ لَهَا وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ wa in janaḥū lissal-mi fajnaḥ lahā watawakkal `alallāh ۚ innahu huwas samī`ul `alīm If they incline toward peace, then you [too] incline toward it, and put your trust in Allah. Indeed He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.
62
وَإِن يُرِيدُوٓا۟ أَن يَخْدَعُوكَ فَإِنَّ حَسْبَكَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَيَّدَكَ بِنَصْرِهِۦ وَبِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ wa in yurīdū an yakhda`ūka fa-inna ḥasbakallāh ۚ huwal ladhī ayyadaka binaṣrihi wabil mu-minīn But if they desire to deceive you, Allah is indeed sufficient for you. It is He who strengthened you with His help and with the means of the faithful,
63
وَأَلَّفَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِهِمْ ۚ لَوْ أَنفَقْتَ مَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا مَّآ أَلَّفْتَ بَيْنَ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَلَّفَ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ wa-allafa bayna qulūbihim ۚ law anfaqta mā fil-arḍi jamī`an mā allafta bayna qulūbihim walākinnallāha allafa baynahum ۚ innahu `azīzun ḥakīm and united their hearts. Had you spent all that is in the earth, you could not have united their hearts, but Allah united them together. Indeed He is all-mighty, all-wise.
64
Sufficient for you is Allah and those of the faithful who follow you.
65
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ حَرِّضِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَى ٱلْقِتَالِ ۚ إِن يَكُن مِّنكُمْ عِشْرُونَ صَـٰبِرُونَ يَغْلِبُوا۟ مِا۟ئَتَيْنِ ۚ وَإِن يَكُن مِّنكُم مِّا۟ئَةٌ يَغْلِبُوٓا۟ أَلْفًا مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَّا يَفْقَهُونَ yā-ayyuhan nabiyyu ḥarriḍil mu-minīna `alal-qitāl ۚ in yakun minkum `ishrūna ṣābirūna yaghlibū mī-atayn ۚ wa in yakun minkum mī-atun yaghlibū alfan minal ladhīna kafarū bi-annahum qawmul lā yafqahūn O Prophet! Urge on the faithful to fight: If there be twenty patient men among you, they shall overcome two hundred; and if there be a hundred of you, they shall overcome a thousand of the faithless, for they are a lot who do not understand.
66
ٱلْـَٔـٰنَ خَفَّفَ ٱللَّهُ عَنكُمْ وَعَلِمَ أَنَّ فِيكُمْ ضَعْفًا ۚ فَإِن يَكُن مِّنكُم مِّا۟ئَةٌ صَابِرَةٌ يَغْلِبُوا۟ مِا۟ئَتَيْنِ ۚ وَإِن يَكُن مِّنكُمْ أَلْفٌ يَغْلِبُوٓا۟ أَلْفَيْنِ بِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ مَعَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ al-āna khaffafallāhu `ankum wa`alima anna fīkum ḍa`fā ۚ fa-in yakun minkum mī-atun ṣābiratun yaghlibū mī-atayn ۚ wa in yakun minkum alfun yaghlibū alfayni bi-idhnillāh ۗ wallāhu ma`aṣ ṣābirīn Now Allah has lightened your burden, knowing that there is weakness in you. So if there be a hundred patient men among you, they shall overcome two hundred; and if there be a thousand, they shall overcome two thousand, by Allah’s leave; and Allah is with the patient.
67
مَا كَانَ لِنَبِىٍّ أَن يَكُونَ لَهُۥٓ أَسْرَىٰ حَتَّىٰ يُثْخِنَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ تُرِيدُونَ عَرَضَ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱللَّهُ يُرِيدُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ mā kāna linabiyyin an yakūna lahu asrā ḥattā yuthkhina fil-arḍ ۚ turīdūna `araḍad dunyā wallāhu yurīdul-ākhirah ۗ wallāhu `azīzun ḥakīm A prophet may not take captives until he has thoroughly decimated [the enemy] in the land. You desire the transitory gains of this world, while Allah desires [for you] [the reward of] the Hereafter, and Allah is all-mighty, all-wise.
68
لَّوْلَا كِتَـٰبٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ سَبَقَ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِيمَآ أَخَذْتُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ lawlā kitābun minallāhi sabaqa lamassakum fīmā akhadhtum `adhābun `aẓīm Had it not been for a prior decree of Allah, surely there would have befallen you a great punishment for what you took.
69
فَكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا غَنِمْتُمْ حَلَـٰلًا طَيِّبًا ۚ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ fakulū mimmā ghanimtum ḥalālan ṭayyibā ۚ wattaqullāh ۚ innallāha ghafūrun raḥīm Avail yourselves of the spoils you have taken as lawful and good, and be wary of Allah. Indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.
70
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّبِىُّ قُل لِّمَن فِىٓ أَيْدِيكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَسْرَىٰٓ إِن يَعْلَمِ ٱللَّهُ فِى قُلُوبِكُمْ خَيْرًا يُؤْتِكُمْ خَيْرًا مِّمَّآ أُخِذَ مِنكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ yā-ayyuhan nabiyyu qul liman fī aydīkum minal-asrā in ya`lamillāhu fī qulūbikum khayran yu-tikum khayran mimmā ukhidha minkum wayaghfir lakum ۗ wallāhu ghafūrun raḥīm O Prophet! Say to the captives who are in your hands, ‘If Allah finds any good in your hearts, He will give you [something which is] better than what has been taken away from you, and He will forgive you, and Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.’
71
وَإِن يُرِيدُوا۟ خِيَانَتَكَ فَقَدْ خَانُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مِن قَبْلُ فَأَمْكَنَ مِنْهُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ wa in yurīdū khiyānataka faqad khānullāha min qablu fa-amkana minhum ۗ wallāhu `alīmun ḥakīm But if they seek to betray you, then they have already betrayed Allah earlier, and He gave [you] power over them; and Allah is all-knowing, all-wise.
72
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَاوَوا۟ وَّنَصَرُوٓا۟ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَآءُ بَعْضٍ ۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَلَمْ يُهَاجِرُوا۟ مَا لَكُم مِّن وَلَـٰيَتِهِم مِّن شَىْءٍ حَتَّىٰ يُهَاجِرُوا۟ ۚ وَإِنِ ٱسْتَنصَرُوكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ فَعَلَيْكُمُ ٱلنَّصْرُ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍۭ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَهُم مِّيثَـٰقٌ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ innal ladhīna āmanū wahājarū wajāhadū bi-amwālihim wa-anfusihim fī sabīlillāhi wal ladhīna āwaw wanaṣarū ulā-ika ba`ḍuhum awliyā-u ba`ḍ ۚ wal ladhīna āmanū walam yuhājirū mā lakum min walāyatihim min shay-in ḥattā yuhājirū ۚ wa inis-tanṣarūkum fid dīni fa`alaykumun naṣru illā `alā qawmin baynakum wabaynahum mīthāq ۗ wallāhu bimā ta`malūna baṣīr Indeed those who have believed and migrated and waged jihad with their possessions and persons in the way of Allah, and those who gave [them] shelter and help—they are heirs of one another. As for those who have believed but did not migrate, you have no heirdom in relation to them whatsoever until they migrate. Yet if they ask your help for the sake of religion, it is incumbent on you to help them, excepting against a people with whom you have a treaty; and Allah watches what you do.
73
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَآءُ بَعْضٍ ۚ إِلَّا تَفْعَلُوهُ تَكُن فِتْنَةٌ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَفَسَادٌ كَبِيرٌ wal ladhīna kafarū ba`ḍuhum awliyā-u ba`ḍ ۚ illā taf`alūhu takun fitnatun fil-arḍi wafasādun kabīr As for the faithless, they are heirs of one another. وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَاوَوا۟ وَّنَصَرُوٓا۟ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ حَقًّا ۚ لَّهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَرِزْقٌ كَرِيمٌ wal ladhīna āmanū wahājarū wajāhadū fī sabīlillāhi wal ladhīna āwaw wanaṣarū ulā-ika humul mu-minūna ḥaqqā ۚ lahum maghfiratun warizqun karīm Those who have believed, migrated, and waged jihad in the way of Allah, and those who gave them shelter and help, it is they who are truly the faithful. For them shall be forgiveness and a noble provision.

وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدُ وَهَاجَرُوا۟ وَجَـٰهَدُوا۟ مَعَكُمْ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ مِنكُمْ ۚ وَأُو۟لُوا۟ ٱلْأَرْحَامِ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلَىٰ بِبَعْضٍ فِى كِتَـٰبِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌۢ wal ladhīna āmanū min ba`du wahājarū wajāhadū ma`akum fa-ulā-ika minkum ۚ wa-ulul-arḥāmi ba`ḍuhum awlā biba`ḍin fī kitābillāh ۗ innallāha bikulli shay-in `alīm Those who believed afterwards and migrated, and waged jihad along with you, they belong to you; but the blood relatives are more entitled to inherit from one another in the Book of Allah. Indeed Allah has knowledge of all things.
