بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ `amma yatasā-alūn What is it that they are questioning each other about?!
2
عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ `anin naba-il `aẓīm [Is it] about the Great Tiding,
3
ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ alladhī hum fīhi mukhtalifūn the one about which they differ?
4
كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ kallā saya`lamūn No indeed! Soon they will know!
5
ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ thumma kallā saya`lamūn No indeed! Soon they will know for once again!
6
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَـٰدًا alam naj`alil-arḍa mihādā Did We not make the earth a resting place?
7
وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا wal jibāla awtādā and the mountains stakes?
8
وَخَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا wakhalaqnākum azwājā and create you in pairs?
9
وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا waja`alnā nawmakum subātā and make your sleep for rest?
10
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا waja`alnal layla libāsā and make the night a covering?
11
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا waja`alnan nahāra ma`āshā and make the day for livelihood?
12
وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا wabanaynā fawqakum sab`an shidādā and build above you the seven mighty heavens?
13
وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا waja`alnā sirājan wahhājā and make [the sun for] a radiant lamp?
14
وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا wa-anzalnā minal mu`ṣirāti mā-an thajjājā and send down water pouring from the rain-clouds,
15
لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا linukhrija bihi ḥabban wanabātā that We may bring forth with it grains and plants,
16
وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا wajannātin alfāfā and luxuriant gardens?
17
إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَـٰتًا inna yawmal faṣli kāna mīqātā Indeed the Day of Judgement is the tryst,
18
يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا yawma yunfakhu fiṣ ṣūri fata-tūna afwājā the day the Trumpet will be blown, and you will come in groups,
19
وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًا wafutiḥatis samā-u fakānat abwābā and the sky will be opened and become gates,
20
وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا wasuyyiratil jibālu fakānat sarābā and the mountains will be set moving and become a mirage.
21
إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا inna jahannama kānat mirṣādā Indeed hell is in ambush,
22
لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًا liṭṭāghīna ma-ābā a resort for the rebels,
23
لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًا lābithīna fīhā aḥqābā to reside therein for ages,
24
لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا lā yadhūqūna fīhā bardan walā sharābā tasting in it neither any coolness nor drink,
25
إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا illā ḥamīman waghassāqā except boiling water and pus,
26
جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا jazā-an wifāqā a fitting requital.
27
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا innahum kānū lā yarjūna ḥisābā Indeed they did not expect any reckoning,
28
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا wakadhhabū bi-āyātinā kidhhābā and they denied Our signs mendaciously,
29
وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ كِتَـٰبًا wakulla shay-in aḥṣaynāhu kitābā and We have figured everything in a Book.
30
فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا fadhūqū falan nazīdakum illā `adhābā So [now] taste! We shall increase you in nothing but punishment!
31
إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا inna lil-muttaqīna mafāzā Indeed a triumph awaits the Godwary:
32
حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَـٰبًا ḥadā-iqa wa-a`nābā gardens and vineyards,
33
وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا wakawā`iba atrābā and buxom maidens of a like age,
34
وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا waka-san dihāqā and brimming cups.
35
لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًا lā yasma`ūna fīhā laghwan walā kidhhābā Therein they shall hear neither vain talk nor lies
36
جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا jazā-an min rabbika `aṭā-an ḥisābā —a reward and a sufficing bounty from your Lord,
37
رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا rabbis samāwāti wal-arḍi wa mā baynahumar raḥmān ۖ lā yamlikūna minhu khiṭābā the All-beneficent, the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them. They will not be able to address Him
38
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا yawma yaqūmur rūḥu wal malā-ikatu ṣaffā ۖ lā yatakallamūna illā man adhina lahur raḥmānu waqāla ṣawābā on the day when the Spirit and the angels stand in an array: none shall speak except someone who is permitted by the All-beneficent and says what is rightful.
39
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا dhālikal yawmul ḥaqq ۖ faman shā-at-takhadha ilā rabbihi ma-ābā That day is true for certain. So let anyone who wishes take resort with his Lord.
40
إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَـٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا innā andharnākum `adhāban qarīban yawma yanẓurul mar-u mā qaddamat yadāhu wayaqūlul kāfiru yālaytanī kuntu turābā Indeed We have warned you of a punishment near at hand—the day when a person will observe what his hands have sent ahead and the faithless one will say, ‘I wish I were dust!’
