بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦٓ أَنْ أَنذِرْ قَوْمَكَ مِن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ innā arsalnā nūḥan ilā qawmihi an andhir qawmaka min qabli an ya-tiyahum `adhābun alīm Indeed We sent Noah to his people, [saying,] ‘Warn your people before a painful punishment overtakes them.’
2
قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنِّى لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ qāla yāqawmi innī lakum nadhīrun mubīn He said, ‘O my people! Indeed, I am a manifest warner to you.
3
أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ ani'-budullāha wattaqūhu wa-aṭī`ūn Worship Allah and be wary of Him, and obey me,
4
يَغْفِرْ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا جَآءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ لَوْ كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ yaghfir lakum min dhunūbikum wayu-akhhirkum ilā ajalin musammā ۚ inna ajalallāhi idhā jā-a lā yu-akhhar ۖ law kuntum ta`lamūn that He may forgive you some of your sins and respite you until a specified time. Indeed when Allah’s [appointed] time comes, it cannot be deferred, if you know.’

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِى لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا qāla rabbi innī da`awtu qawmī laylan wanahārā He said, ‘My Lord! Indeed, I have summoned my people night and day
6
فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَآءِىٓ إِلَّا فِرَارًا falam yazid-hum du`ā-ī illā firārā but my summons only increases their evasion.
7
وَإِنِّى كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُوٓا۟ أَصَـٰبِعَهُمْ فِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَٱسْتَغْشَوْا۟ ثِيَابَهُمْ وَأَصَرُّوا۟ وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ ٱسْتِكْبَارًا wa innī kullamā da`awtuhum litaghfira lahum ja`alū aṣābi`ahum fī ādhānihim wastaghshaw thiyābahum wa-aṣarrū wastakbarus-tikbārā Indeed whenever I have summoned them, so that You might forgive them, they would put their fingers into their ears and draw their cloaks over their heads, and they were persistent [in their unfaith], and disdainful in [their] arrogance.
8
ثُمَّ إِنِّى دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا thumma innī da`awtuhum jihārā Again I summoned them aloud,
9
ثُمَّ إِنِّىٓ أَعْلَنتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا thumma innī a`lantu lahum wa-asrartu lahum isrārā and again appealed to them publicly and confided with them privately,
10
فَقُلْتُ ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارًا faqultus taghfirū rabbakum innahu kāna ghaffārā telling [them]: ‘‘Plead to your Lord for forgiveness. Indeed, He is all-forgiving.
11
يُرْسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيْكُم مِّدْرَارًا yursilis samā-a `alaykum midrārā He will send for you abundant rains from the sky,
12
وَيُمْدِدْكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ جَنَّـٰتٍ وَيَجْعَل لَّكُمْ أَنْهَـٰرًا wayumdidkum bi-amwālin wabanīna wayaj`al lakum jannātin wayaj`al lakum anhārā and aid you with wealth and sons, and provide you with gardens and provide you with streams.
13
مَّا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارًا mā lakum lā tarjūna lillāhi waqārā What is the matter with you that you do not look upon Allah with veneration,
14
وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ أَطْوَارًا waqad khalaqakum aṭwārā though He has created you in [various] stages?
15
أَلَمْ تَرَوْا۟ كَيْفَ خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَٰتٍ طِبَاقًا alam taraw kayfa khalaqallāhu sab`a samāwātin ṭibāqā Have you not seen how Allah has created the seven heavens in layers,
16
وَجَعَلَ ٱلْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ ٱلشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا waja`alal-qamara fīhinna nūran waja`alash shamsa sirājā and has made therein the moon for a light and the sun for a lamp?
17
وَٱللَّهُ أَنۢبَتَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ نَبَاتًا wallāhu anbatakum minal-arḍi nabātā Allah made you grow from the earth, with a [vegetable] growth.
18
ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمْ فِيهَا وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ إِخْرَاجًا thumma yu`īdukum fīhā wayukhrijukum ikhrājā Then He makes you return to it, and He will bring you forth [without fail].
19
وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ بِسَاطًا wallāhu ja`ala lakumul-arḍa bisāṭā Allah has made the earth a vast expanse for you
20
لِّتَسْلُكُوا۟ مِنْهَا سُبُلًا فِجَاجًا litaslukū minhā subulan fijājā so that you may travel over its spacious ways.’’ ’
21
قَالَ نُوحٌ رَّبِّ إِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْنِى وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ مَن لَّمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُۥ وَوَلَدُهُۥٓ إِلَّا خَسَارًا qāla nūḥun rabbi innahum `aṣawnī wattaba`ū man lam yazid-hu māluhu wawaladuhu illā khasārā Noah said, ‘My Lord! They have disobeyed me, following someone whose wealth and children only add to his loss,
22
وَمَكَرُوا۟ مَكْرًا كُبَّارًا wa makarū makran kubbārā and they have devised an outrageous plot.
23
وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَذَرُنَّ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّا وَلَا سُوَاعًا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًا waqālū lā tadharunna ālihatakum walā tadharunna waddan walā suwā`an walā yaghūtha waya`ūqa wanasrā They say, ‘‘Do not abandon your gods. Do not abandon Wadd, nor Suwa, nor Yaghuth, Ya‘uq and Nasr,’’
24
وَقَدْ أَضَلُّوا۟ كَثِيرًا ۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَـٰلًا waqad aḍallū kathīrā ۖ walā tazidiẓ ẓālimīna illā ḍalālā and already they have led many astray. Do not increase the wrongdoers in anything but error.’
25
مِّمَّا خَطِيٓـَٔـٰتِهِمْ أُغْرِقُوا۟ فَأُدْخِلُوا۟ نَارًا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا۟ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَنصَارًا mimmā khaṭī-ātihim ughriqū fa-udkhilū nāran falam yajidū lahum min dūnillāhi anṣārā They were drowned because of their iniquities, then made to enter a Fire, and they did not find any helpers for themselves besides Allah.
26
وَقَالَ نُوحٌ رَّبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ دَيَّارًا waqāla nūḥun rabbi lā tadhar `alal-arḍi minal kāfirīna dayyārā And Noah said, ‘My Lord! ‘Do not leave on the earth any inhabitant from among the faithless.
27
إِنَّكَ إِن تَذَرْهُمْ يُضِلُّوا۟ عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُوٓا۟ إِلَّا فَاجِرًا كَفَّارًا innaka in tadharhum yuḍillū `ibādaka walā yalidū illā fājiran kaffārā If You leave them, they will lead astray Your servants, and will beget none except vicious ingrates.
28
رَّبِّ ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَىَّ وَلِمَن دَخَلَ بَيْتِىَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًۢا rabbigh-fir lī waliwālidayya waliman dakhala baytiya mu-minan walil-mu-minīna wal mu-mināti walā tazidiẓ ẓālimīna illā tabārā My Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and whoever enters my house in faith, and the faithful men and women, and do not increase the wrongdoers in anything but ruin.’
