بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ iqtarabatis sā`atu wanshaqqal qamar The Hour has drawn near and the moon is split.
2
وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ wa in yaraw āyatan yu`riḍū wayaqūlū siḥrun mustamirr If they see a sign, they turn away, and say, ‘An incessant magic!’
3
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ wakadhhabū wattaba`ū ahwā-ahum ۚ wakullu amrin mustaqirr They denied and followed their own desires, and every matter has a setting [appropriate to it].
4
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ walaqad jā-ahum minal-anbā-i mā fīhi muzdajar There have already come to them reports containing admonishment,
5
حِكْمَةٌۢ بَـٰلِغَةٌ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ ḥikmatun bālighah ۖ famā tughnin nudhur [and representing] far-reaching wisdom; but warnings are of no avail!
6
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍ نُّكُرٍ fatawalla `anhum ۘ yawma yad`ud dā`i ilā shay-in nukur So turn away from them! The day when the Caller calls to a dire thing,
7
خُشَّعًا أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُّنتَشِرٌ khushha`an abṣāruhum yakhrujūna minal-ajdāthi ka-annahum jarādun muntashir they will emerge from the graves as if they were scattered locusts with a humbled look [in their eyes],
8
مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ muhṭi`īna ilad dā` ۖ yaqūlul kāfirūna hādhā yawmun `asir scrambling toward the summoner. The faithless will say, ‘This is a hard day!’
9
كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجْنُونٌ وَٱزْدُجِرَ kadhhabat qablahum qawmu nūḥin fakadhhabū `abdanā waqālū majnūnun wazdujir The people of Noah impugned before them. So they impugned Our servant and said, ‘A crazy man,’ and he was reviled.
10
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌ فَٱنتَصِرْ fada`ā rabbahu annī maghlūbun fantaṣir Thereat he invoked his Lord, [saying,] ‘I have been overcome, so help [me].’
11
فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٍ مُّنْهَمِرٍ fafataḥnā abwābas samā-i bimā-in munhamir Then We opened the gates of the sky with pouring waters,
12
وَفَجَّرْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَٱلْتَقَى ٱلْمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ wafajjarnal-arḍa `uyūnan fal taqal mā-u `alā amrin qad qudir and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and the waters met for a preordained purpose.
13
وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَٰحٍ وَدُسُرٍ waḥamalnāhu `alā dhāti alwāḥin wadusur We bore him on a vessel made of planks and nails,
14
تَجْرِى بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَآءً لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ tajrī bi-a`yuninā jazā-an liman kāna kufir which sailed [over the flood waters] in Our sight, as a retribution for him who was met with disbelief.
15
وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَـٰهَآ ءَايَةً فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ walaqad taraknāhā āyatan fahal min muddakir Certainly We have left it as a sign; so is there anyone who will be admonished?
16
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ fakayfa kāna `adhābī wanudhur So how were My punishment and warnings?
17
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ walaqad yassarnal qur-āna lidhhikri fahal min muddakir Certainly We have made the Quran simple for the sake of admonishment. So is there anyone who will be admonished?
18
كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ kadhhabat `ādun fakayfa kāna `adhābī wanudhur [The people of] ‘Ad impugned [their apostle]. So how were My punishment and warnings?
19
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُّسْتَمِرٍّ innā arsalnā `alayhim rīḥan ṣarṣaran fī yawmi naḥsin mustamirr Indeed We unleashed upon them an icy gale on an incessantly ill-fated day,
20
تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُّنقَعِرٍ tanzi`un nāsa ka-annahum a`jāzu nakhlin munqa`ir knocking down people as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees.
21
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ fakayfa kāna `adhābī wanudhur So how were My punishment and warnings?!
22
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ walaqad yassarnal qur-āna lidhhikri fahal min muddakir Certainly We have made the Quran simple for the sake of admonishment. So is there anyone who will be admonished?
23
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ kadhhabat thamūdu bin nudhur [The people of] Thamud denied the warnings,
24
فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرًا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدًا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ faqālū abasharan minnā wāḥidan nattabi`uhu innā idhal lafī ḍalālin wasu`ur and they said, ‘Are we to follow a lone human from ourselves?! Indeed then we would be in error and madness.’
25
أَءُلْقِىَ ٱلذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ a-ulqiyadh dhikru `alayhi min bayninā bal huwa kadhhābun ashir ‘Has the Reminder been cast upon him from among us? No, he is a self-conceited liar.’
26
سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَّنِ ٱلْكَذَّابُ ٱلْأَشِرُ saya`lamūna ghadan manil kadhhābul-ashir ‘Tomorrow they will know who is a self-conceited liar.
27
إِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَّهُمْ فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ وَٱصْطَبِرْ innā mursilun nāqati fitnatan lahum fartaqibhum waṣṭabir We are sending the She-camel as a trial for them; so watch them and be steadfast.
28
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ ٱلْمَآءَ قِسْمَةٌۢ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُّحْتَضَرٌ wanabbi-hum annal mā-a qismatun baynahum ۖ kullu shirbin muḥtaḍar Inform them that the water is to be shared between them; each of them showing up at his turn.’
29
فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ fanādaw ṣāḥibahum fata`āṭā fa`aqar But they called their companion, and he took [a knife] and hamstrung [her].
30
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ fakayfa kāna `adhābī wanudhur So how were My punishment and My warnings?!
31
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ innā arsalnā `alayhim ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan fakānū kahashīmil muḥtaẓir We sent against them a single Cry, and they became like the dry sticks of a corral builder.
32
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ walaqad yassarnal qur-āna lidhhikri fahal min muddakir Certainly We have made the Quran simple for the sake of admonishment. So is there anyone who will be admonished?
33
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ kadhhabat qawmu lūṭin bin nudhur And the people of Lot denied the warnings.
34
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرٍ innā arsalnā `alayhim ḥāṣiban illā āla lūṭ ۖ najjaynāhum bisaḥar We unleashed upon them a rain of stones, excepting the family of Lot, whom We delivered at dawn
35
نِّعْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَن شَكَرَ ni`matan min `indinā ۚ kadhālika najzī man shakar as a blessing from Us. Thus do We reward those who give thanks.
36
وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ walaqad andharahum baṭshatanā fatamāraw bin nudhur He had already warned them of Our punishment, but they disputed the warnings.
37
وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِۦ فَطَمَسْنَآ أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ walaqad rāwadūhu `an ḍayfihi faṭamasnā a`yunahum fadhūqū `adhābī wanudhur They even solicited of him his guests, whereat We blotted out their eyes, [saying,] ‘Taste My punishment and My warnings!’
38
وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ walaqad ṣabbaḥahum bukratan `adhābun mustaqirr Early at dawn there visited them an abiding punishment:
39
فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ fadhūqū `adhābī wanudhur ‘Taste My punishment and warnings!’
40
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ walaqad yassarnal qur-āna lidhhikri fahal min muddakir Certainly We have made the Quran simple for the sake of admonishment. So is there anyone who will be admonished?
41
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ walaqad jā-a āla fir`awnan nudhur Certainly the warnings did come to Pharaoh’s clan
42
كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ kadhhabū bi-āyātinā kullihā fa-akhadhnāhum akhdha `azīzin muqtadir who denied all of Our signs. So We seized them with the seizing of One [who is] all-mighty, Omnipotent.
43
أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٌ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ akuffārukum khayrun min ulā-ikum am lakum barā-atun fiz zubur Are your faithless better than those? Have you [been granted] [some sort of] immunity in the scriptures?
44
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُّنتَصِرٌ am yaqūlūna naḥnu jamī`un muntaṣir Do they say, ‘We are a confederate league’?
45
سَيُهْزَمُ ٱلْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ sayuhzamul jam`u wayuwallūnad dubur The league will be routed and turn its back [to flee].
46
بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ balis sā`atu maw`iduhum was sā`atu ad-hā wa-amarr Indeed, the Hour is their tryst; and the Hour will be most calamitous and bitter.
47
إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ innal mujrimīna fī ḍalālin wasu`ur Indeed the guilty are steeped in error and madness.
48
يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ yawma yus-ḥabūna fin nāri `alā wujūhihim dhūqū massa saqar The day when they are dragged on their faces into the Fire, [it will be said to them,] ‘Taste the touch of hell!’
49
إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ بِقَدَرٍ innā kulla shay-in khalaqnāhu biqadar Indeed We have created everything in a measure,
50
وَمَآ أَمْرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍۭ بِٱلْبَصَرِ wa mā amrunā illā wāḥidatun kalamḥin bil baṣar and Our command is but a single [word], like the twinkling of an eye.
51
وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ walaqad ahlaknā ashyā`akum fahal min muddakir Certainly We have destroyed your likes. So is there anyone who will be admonished?
52
وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ wakullu shay-in fa`alūhu fiz zubur Everything they have done is in the books,
53
وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍ وَكَبِيرٍ مُّسْتَطَرٌ wakullu ṣaghīrin wakabīrin mustaṭar and everything big and small is committed to writing.
54
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَنَهَرٍ innal muttaqīna fī jannātin wanahar Indeed the Godwary will be amid gardens and streams,
55
فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ fī maq`adi ṣidqin `inda malīkin muqtadir in the abode of truthfulness with an omnipotent King.
