بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
وَٱلطُّورِ waṭ ṭūr By the Mount [Sinai],
2
وَكِتَـٰبٍ مَّسْطُورٍ wakitābin masṭūr by the Book inscribed
3
فِى رَقٍّ مَّنشُورٍ fī raqqin manshūr on an unrolled parchment;
4
وَٱلْبَيْتِ ٱلْمَعْمُورِ wal baytil ma`mūr by the House greatly frequented;
5
وَٱلسَّقْفِ ٱلْمَرْفُوعِ was saqfil marfū` by the vault raised high,
6
وَٱلْبَحْرِ ٱلْمَسْجُورِ wal baḥril masjūr by the surging sea:
7
إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ لَوَٰقِعٌ inna `adhāba rabbika lawāqi` indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely befall.
8
مَّا لَهُۥ مِن دَافِعٍ mā lahu min dāfi` There is none who can avert it.
9
يَوْمَ تَمُورُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ مَوْرًا yawma tamūrus samā-u mawrā On the day when the sky whirls violently,
10
وَتَسِيرُ ٱلْجِبَالُ سَيْرًا watasīrul jibālu sayrā and the mountains move with an awful motion:
11
فَوَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ fawaylun yawma-idhin lil-mukadhhibīn woe to the deniers on that day
12
ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى خَوْضٍ يَلْعَبُونَ alladhīna hum fī khawḍiy yal`abūn —those who play around in vain talk,
13
يَوْمَ يُدَعُّونَ إِلَىٰ نَارِ جَهَنَّمَ دَعًّا yawma yuda``ūna ilā nāri jahannama da``ā the day when they will be shoved forcibly toward the fire of hell, [and told:]
14
هَـٰذِهِ ٱلنَّارُ ٱلَّتِى كُنتُم بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ hādhihin nārul latī kuntum bihā tukadhhibūn ‘This is the Fire which you used to deny!
15
أَفَسِحْرٌ هَـٰذَآ أَمْ أَنتُمْ لَا تُبْصِرُونَ afasiḥrun hādhā am antum lā tubṣirūn Is this, then, [also] magic, or is it you who do not perceive?
16
ٱصْلَوْهَا فَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ أَوْ لَا تَصْبِرُوا۟ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ iṣ-lawhā faṣbirū aw lā taṣbirū sawā-un `alaykum ۖ innamā tujzawna mā kuntum ta`malūn Enter it, and it will be the same for you whether you are patient or impatient. You are only being requited for what you used to do.’
17
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَنَعِيمٍ innal muttaqīna fī jannātin wana`īm Indeed the Godwary will be amid gardens and bliss,
18
فَـٰكِهِينَ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ fākihīna bimā ātāhum rabbuhum wawaqāhum rabbuhum `adhābal jaḥīm rejoicing because of what their Lord has given them, and that their Lord has saved them from the punishment of hell.
19
كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ kulū washrabū hanī-an bimā kuntum ta`malūn [They will be told:] ‘Enjoy your food and drink, [as a reward] for what you used to do.’
20
مُتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّصْفُوفَةٍ ۖ وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ muttaki-īna `alā sururin maṣfūfah ۖ wazawwajnāhum biḥūrin `īn They will be reclining on arrayed couches, and We will wed them to big-eyed houris.
21
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعَتْهُمْ ذُرِّيَّتُهُم بِإِيمَـٰنٍ أَلْحَقْنَا بِهِمْ ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ وَمَآ أَلَتْنَـٰهُم مِّنْ عَمَلِهِم مِّن شَىْءٍ ۚ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَ رَهِينٌ wal ladhīna āmanū wattaba`at-hum dhurriyyatuhum bi-iymānin alḥaqnā bihim dhurriyyatahum wa mā alatnāhum min `amalihim min shay-ī ۚ kullum-ri-in bimā kasaba rahīn The faithful and their descendants who followed them in faith—We will make their descendants join them, and We will not stint anything from [the reward of] their deeds. Every person is hostage to what he has earned.
22
وَأَمْدَدْنَـٰهُم بِفَـٰكِهَةٍ وَلَحْمٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ wa-amdadnāhum bifākihatin walaḥmin mimmā yashtahūn We will provide them with fruits and meat, such as they desire.
23
يَتَنَـٰزَعُونَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا لَّا لَغْوٌ فِيهَا وَلَا تَأْثِيمٌ yatanāza`ūna fīhā ka-sal lā laghwun fīhā walā ta-thīm There they will pass from hand to hand a cup wherein there will be neither any vain talk nor sinful speech.
24
وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ غِلْمَانٌ لَّهُمْ كَأَنَّهُمْ لُؤْلُؤٌ مَّكْنُونٌ wayaṭūfu `alayhim ghil-mānul lahum ka-annahum lu-lu-un maknūn They will be waited upon by their youths, as if they were guarded pearls.
25
وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ wa-aqbala ba`ḍuhum `alā ba`ḍiy yatasā-alūn They will turn to one another, questioning each other.
26
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا قَبْلُ فِىٓ أَهْلِنَا مُشْفِقِينَ qālū innā kunnā qablu fī ahlinā mushfiqīn They will say, ‘Indeed, aforetime, we used to be apprehensive about our families.
27
فَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْنَا وَوَقَىٰنَا عَذَابَ ٱلسَّمُومِ famannallāhu `alaynā wawaqānā `adhābas samūm But Allah showed us favour and He saved us from the punishment of the [infernal] miasma.
28
إِنَّا كُنَّا مِن قَبْلُ نَدْعُوهُ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْبَرُّ ٱلرَّحِيمُ innā kunnā min qablu nad`ūh ۖ innahu huwal barrur raḥīm We used to supplicate Him aforetime. Indeed He is the All-benign, the All-merciful.’
29
فَذَكِّرْ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِنِعْمَتِ رَبِّكَ بِكَاهِنٍ وَلَا مَجْنُونٍ fadhakkir famā anta bini`mati rabbika bikāhinin walā majnūn So admonish. By your Lord’s blessing, you are not a soothsayer, nor mad.
30
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ شَاعِرٌ نَّتَرَبَّصُ بِهِۦ رَيْبَ ٱلْمَنُونِ am yaqūlūna shā`irun natarabbaṣu bihi raybal manūn Do they say, ‘[He is] a poet, for whom we await a fatal accident’?
31
قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوا۟ فَإِنِّى مَعَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ qul tarabbaṣū fa-innī ma`akum minal mutarabbiṣīn Say, ‘Wait! I too am waiting along with you.’
32
أَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ أَحْلَـٰمُهُم بِهَـٰذَآ ۚ أَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ am ta-muruhum aḥlāmuhum bihādhā ۚ am hum qawmun ṭāghūn Is it their intellect which prompts them to [say] this, or are they a rebellious lot?
33
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ تَقَوَّلَهُۥ ۚ بَل لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ am yaqūlūna taqawwalah ۚ bal lā yu-minūn Do they say, ‘He has improvised it [himself]?’ Rather, they have no faith!
34
فَلْيَأْتُوا۟ بِحَدِيثٍ مِّثْلِهِۦٓ إِن كَانُوا۟ صَـٰدِقِينَ falya-tū biḥadīthin mithlihi in kānū ṣādiqīn Let them bring a discourse like it, if they are truthful.
35
أَمْ خُلِقُوا۟ مِنْ غَيْرِ شَىْءٍ أَمْ هُمُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ am khuliqū min ghayri shay-in am humul khāliqūn Were they created from nothing? Or are they [their own] creators?
36
أَمْ خَلَقُوا۟ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ ۚ بَل لَّا يُوقِنُونَ am khalaqus samāwāti wal-arḍ ۚ bal lā yūqinūn Did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they have no certainty!
37
أَمْ عِندَهُمْ خَزَآئِنُ رَبِّكَ أَمْ هُمُ ٱلْمُصَۣيْطِرُونَ am `indahum khazā-inu rabbika am humul musayṭirūn Do they possess the treasuries of your Lord? Or do they control [them]?
38
أَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَسْتَمِعُونَ فِيهِ ۖ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُم بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ am lahum sullamun yastami`ūna fīh ۖ falya-ti mustami`uhum bisulṭānin mubīn Do they have a ladder [leading up to heaven] whereby they eavesdrop? If so, let their eavesdropper produce a manifest authority.
39
أَمْ لَهُ ٱلْبَنَـٰتُ وَلَكُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَ am lahul banātu walakumul banūn Does He have daughters while you have sons?
40
أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُم مِّن مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُونَ am tas-aluhum ajran fahum min maghramin muthqalūn Do you ask them for a reward, so that they are [wary of] being weighed down with debt?
41
أَمْ عِندَهُمُ ٱلْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ am `indahumul ghaybu fahum yaktubūn Do they have [access to] the Unseen, which they write down?
42
أَمْ يُرِيدُونَ كَيْدًا ۖ فَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْمَكِيدُونَ am yurīdūna kaydā ۖ fal ladhīna kafarū humul makīdūn Do they seek to outmaneuver [Allah]? But it is the faithless who are the outmaneuvered ones!
43
أَمْ لَهُمْ إِلَـٰهٌ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ ۚ سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ am lahum ilāhun ghayrullāh ۚ subḥānallāhi `ammā yushrikūn Do they have any god other than Allah? Clear is Allah of any partners that they may ascribe [to Him]!
44
وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ كِسْفًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ سَاقِطًا يَقُولُوا۟ سَحَابٌ مَّرْكُومٌ wa in yaraw kisfan minas samā-i sāqiṭan yaqūlū saḥābun markūm Were they to see a fragment falling from the sky, they would say, ‘A cumulous cloud.’
45
فَذَرْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ يُلَـٰقُوا۟ يَوْمَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى فِيهِ يُصْعَقُونَ fadharhum ḥattā yulāqū yawmahumul ladhī fīhi yuṣ`aqūn So leave them until they encounter the day when they will be thunderstruck,
46
يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ yawma lā yughnī `anhum kayduhum shay-an walā hum yunṣarūn the day when their guile will not avail them in any way, nor will they be helped.
47
وَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ عَذَابًا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ wa inna lilladhīna ẓalamū `adhāban dūna dhālika walākinna aktharahum lā ya`lamūn Indeed there is a punishment besides that for those who do wrong, but most of them do not know.
48
وَٱصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ فَإِنَّكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا ۖ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ waṣbir liḥukmi rabbika fa-innaka bi-a`yuninā ۖ wasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika ḥīna taqūm So submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord, for indeed you fare before Our eyes. And celebrate the praise of your Lord when you rise [at dawn],
49
وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَإِدْبَـٰرَ ٱلنُّجُومِ wa minal layli fasabbiḥ-hu wa idbāran nujūm and also glorify Him during the night and at the receding of the stars.
