بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
قٓ ۚ وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ٱلْمَجِيدِ qāf ۚ wal qur-ānil majīd Qaf. By the glorious Quran.
2
بَلْ عَجِبُوٓا۟ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَقَالَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا شَىْءٌ عَجِيبٌ bal `ajibū an jā-ahum mundhirun minhum faqālal-kāfirūna hādhā shay-un `ajīb Indeed they consider it odd that a warner from among themselves should have come to them. So the faithless say, ‘This is an odd thing.’
3
أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا ۖ ذَٰلِكَ رَجْعٌۢ بَعِيدٌ a-idhā mitnā wakunnā turābā ۖ dhālika raj`un ba`īd ‘What! When we are dead and have become dust, [shall we be raised again]? That is a far-fetched return!’
4
قَدْ عَلِمْنَا مَا تَنقُصُ ٱلْأَرْضُ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَعِندَنَا كِتَـٰبٌ حَفِيظٌۢ qad `alimnā mā tanquṣul-arḍu minhum ۖ wa`indanā kitābun ḥafīẓ We know what the earth diminishes from them, and with Us is a preserving Book.
5
بَلْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ فَهُمْ فِىٓ أَمْرٍ مَّرِيجٍ bal kadhhabū bil ḥaqqi lammā jā-ahum fahum fī amrin marīj Indeed, they denied the truth when it came to them; so they are now in a perplexed state of affairs.
6
أَفَلَمْ يَنظُرُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَوْقَهُمْ كَيْفَ بَنَيْنَـٰهَا وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجٍ afalam yanẓurū ilas samā-i fawqahum kayfa banaynāhā wazayyannāhā wa mā lahā min furūj Have they not, then, observed the heaven above them, how We have built it and adorned it, and that there are no cracks in it?
7
وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَـٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍۭ بَهِيجٍ wal-arḍa madadnāhā wa-alqaynā fīhā rawāsiya wa-anbatnā fīhā min kulli zawjin bahīj And We spread out the earth, and cast in it firm mountains, and caused every delightful kind [of vegetation] to grow in it.
8
تَبْصِرَةً وَذِكْرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبْدٍ مُّنِيبٍ tabṣiratan wadhikrā likulli `abdin munīb [In this there is] an insight and admonition for every penitent servant.
9
وَنَزَّلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً مُّبَـٰرَكًا فَأَنۢبَتْنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتٍ وَحَبَّ ٱلْحَصِيدِ wanazzalnā minas samā-i mā-an mubārakan fa-anbatnā bihi jannātin waḥabbal ḥaṣīd We send down from the sky salubrious water, with which We grow gardens and the grain which is harvested,
10
وَٱلنَّخْلَ بَاسِقَـٰتٍ لَّهَا طَلْعٌ نَّضِيدٌ wan nakhla bāsiqātin lahā ṭal`un naḍīd and tall date palms with regularly set spathes,
11
رِّزْقًا لِّلْعِبَادِ ۖ وَأَحْيَيْنَا بِهِۦ بَلْدَةً مَّيْتًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْخُرُوجُ rizqal lil`ibād ۖ wa-aḥyaynā bihi baldatan maytā ۚ kadhālikal khurūj as a provision for Our servants, and with it We revive a dead country. Likewise will be the rising [from the dead].
12
كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ kadhhabat qablahum qawmu nūḥin wa-aṣ-ḥābur rassi wathamūd The people of Noah denied before them, and [so did] the people of Rass and Thamud,
13
وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ وَإِخْوَٰنُ لُوطٍ wa`ādun wafir`awnu wa ikhwānu lūṭ and ‘Ad, Pharaoh, and the brethren of Lot,
14
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ وَقَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ ۚ كُلٌّ كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِيدِ wa-aṣ-ḥābul-aykati waqawmu tubba` ۚ kullun kadhhabar rusula faḥaqqa wa`īd and the inhabitants of Aykah and the people of Tubbac. Each [of them] impugned the apostles, and so My threat became due [against them].
15
أَفَعَيِينَا بِٱلْخَلْقِ ٱلْأَوَّلِ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِى لَبْسٍ مِّنْ خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ afa`ayynā bil khalqil-awwal ۚ bal hum fī labsin min khalqin jadīd Have We been exhausted by the first creation? No, they are in doubt about a new creation.
16
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفْسُهُۥ ۖ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ ٱلْوَرِيدِ walaqad khalaqnal-insāna wana`lamu mā tuwaswisu bihi nafsuh ۖ wanaḥnu aqrabu ilayhi min ḥablil warīd Certainly We have created man and We know to what his soul tempts him, and We are nearer to him than his jugular vein.
17
إِذْ يَتَلَقَّى ٱلْمُتَلَقِّيَانِ عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِيدٌ idh yatalaqqal mutalaqqiyāni `anil yamīni wa`anish shimāli qa`īd When the twin recorders record [his deeds], seated on the right hand and on the left:
18
مَّا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌ mā yalfiẓu min qawlin illā ladayhi raqībun `atīd he says no word but that there is a ready observer beside him.
19
وَجَآءَتْ سَكْرَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ wajā-at sakratul mawti bil ḥaqq ۖ dhālika mā kunta minhu taḥīd The throes of death bring the truth: ‘This is what you used to shun!’
20
وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْوَعِيدِ wanufikha fiṣ ṣūr ۚ dhālika yawmul wa`īd And the Trumpet will be blown: ‘This is the promised day.’
21
وَجَآءَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّعَهَا سَآئِقٌ وَشَهِيدٌ wajā-at kullu nafsin ma`ahā sā-iqun washahīd Every soul will come accompanied by [two angels], a driver, and a witness:
22
لَّقَدْ كُنتَ فِى غَفْلَةٍ مِّنْ هَـٰذَا فَكَشَفْنَا عَنكَ غِطَآءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ حَدِيدٌ laqad kunta fī ghaflatim min hādhā fakashafnā `anka ghiṭā-aka fabaṣarukal yawma ḥadīd [he will be told] ‘You were certainly oblivious of this. We have removed your veil from you, and so today your eyesight is acute.’
23
وَقَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ هَـٰذَا مَا لَدَىَّ عَتِيدٌ waqāla qarīnuhu hādhā mā ladayya `atīd Then his companion [angel] will say, ‘This is what is ready with me [of his record of deeds].’
24
أَلْقِيَا فِى جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ alqiyā fī jahannama kulla kaffārin `anīd [The two angels accompany him will be told,] ‘Cast every obdurate ingrate into hell,
25
مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ مُّرِيبٍ mannā`in lilkhayri mu`tadin murīb [every] hinderer of good, transgressor, and skeptic,
26
ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَأَلْقِيَاهُ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلشَّدِيدِ alladhī ja`ala ma`allāhi ilāhan ākhara fa-alqiyāhu fil `adhābish shadīd who had set up another god along with Allah and cast him into the severe punishment.’
27
قَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَآ أَطْغَيْتُهُۥ وَلَـٰكِن كَانَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۭ بَعِيدٍ qāla qarīnuhu rabbanā mā aṭghaytuhu walākin kāna fī ḍalālin ba`īd His companion [devil] will say, ‘Our Lord! I did not incite him to rebel [against You], but he was [himself] in extreme error.’
28
قَالَ لَا تَخْتَصِمُوا۟ لَدَىَّ وَقَدْ قَدَّمْتُ إِلَيْكُم بِٱلْوَعِيدِ qāla lā takhtaṣimū ladayya waqad qaddamtu ilaykum bil wa`īd He will say, ‘Do not wrangle in My presence, for I had already warned you in advance.
29
مَا يُبَدَّلُ ٱلْقَوْلُ لَدَىَّ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِظَلَّـٰمٍ لِّلْعَبِيدِ mā yubaddalul qawlu ladayya wa mā ana biẓallāmin lil`abīd The word [of judgement] is unalterable with Me, and I am not tyrannical to My servants.’
30
يَوْمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ ٱمْتَلَأْتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلْ مِن مَّزِيدٍ yawma naqūlu lijahannama halim-tala-ti wataqūlu hal min mazīd The day when We shall say to hell, ‘Are you full?’ It will say, ‘Is there any more?’
31
وَأُزْلِفَتِ ٱلْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ wa-uzlifatil jannatu lil-muttaqīna ghayra ba`īd And paradise will be brought near for the Godwary, it will not be distant [any more]:
32
هَـٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِيظٍ hādhā mā tū`adūna likulli awwābin ḥafīẓ ‘This is what you were promised. [It is] for every penitent and dutiful [servant]
33
مَّنْ خَشِىَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ وَجَآءَ بِقَلْبٍ مُّنِيبٍ man khashiyar raḥmāna bil ghaybi wajā-a biqalbin munīb who fears the All-beneficent in secret and comes with a penitent heart.
34
ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمٍ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْخُلُودِ ud-khulūhā bisalām ۖ dhālika yawmul khulūd Enter it in peace! This is the day of immortality.’
35
لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ فِيهَا وَلَدَيْنَا مَزِيدٌ lahum mā yashā-ūna fīhā waladaynā mazīd There they will have whatever they wish, and with Us there is yet more.
36
وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْنٍ هُمْ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُم بَطْشًا فَنَقَّبُوا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ هَلْ مِن مَّحِيصٍ wakam ahlaknā qablahum min qarnin hum ashaddu minhum baṭshan fanaqqabū fil bilādi hal min maḥīṣ How many generations We have destroyed before them, who were stronger than these, insomuch that they ransacked the towns?! So, is there any escape [from Allah’s punishment]?
37
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَذِكْرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُۥ قَلْبٌ أَوْ أَلْقَى ٱلسَّمْعَ وَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ inna fī dhālika ladhikrā liman kāna lahu qalbun aw alqas sam`a wahuwa shahīd There is indeed an admonition in that for one who has a heart, or gives ear, being attentive.
38
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبٍ walaqad khalaqnas samāwāti wal-arḍa wa mā baynahumā fī sittati ayyāmin wa mā massanā min lughūb Certainly We created the heavens and the earth, and whatever is between them, in six days, and any fatigue did not touch Us.
39
فَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ ٱلْغُرُوبِ faṣbir `alā mā yaqūlūna wasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika qabla ṭulū`ish shamsi waqablal-ghurūb So be patient at what they say, and celebrate the praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before the sunset,
40
وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَأَدْبَـٰرَ ٱلسُّجُودِ wa minal layli fasabbiḥ-hu wa-adbāras sujūd and glorify Him through part of the night and after the prostrations.
41
وَٱسْتَمِعْ يَوْمَ يُنَادِ ٱلْمُنَادِ مِن مَّكَانٍ قَرِيبٍ wastami` yawma yunādil munādi min makānin qarīb And be on the alert for the day when the caller calls from a close quarter,
42
يَوْمَ يَسْمَعُونَ ٱلصَّيْحَةَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْخُرُوجِ yawma yasma`ūnaṣ ṣayḥata bil ḥaqq ۚ dhālika yawmul khurūj the day when they hear the Cry in all truth. That is the day of rising [from the dead].
43
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَإِلَيْنَا ٱلْمَصِيرُ innā naḥnu nuḥyī wanumītu wa ilaynal maṣīr Indeed it is We who give life and bring death, and toward Us is the [final] destination.
44
يَوْمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلْأَرْضُ عَنْهُمْ سِرَاعًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ حَشْرٌ عَلَيْنَا يَسِيرٌ yawma tashaqqaqul-arḍu `anhum sirā`ā ۚ dhālika ḥashrun `alaynā yasīr The day the earth is split open for [disentombing] them, [they will come out] hastening. That mustering is easy for Us [to carry out].
45
نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ ۖ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِجَبَّارٍ ۖ فَذَكِّرْ بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَن يَخَافُ وَعِيدِ naḥnu a`lamu bimā yaqūlūn ۖ wa mā anta `alayhim bijabbār ۖ fadhakkir bil qur-āni man yakhāfu wa`īd We know well what they say, and you are not there to compel them. So admonish by the Quran those who fear My threat.
