بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَضَلَّ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ alladhīna kafarū waṣaddū `an sabīlillāhi aḍalla a`mālahum Those who are [themselves] faithless and bar [others] from the way of Allah—He has rendered their works fruitless.
2
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَءَامَنُوا۟ بِمَا نُزِّلَ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَهُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ ۙ كَفَّرَ عَنْهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ وَأَصْلَحَ بَالَهُمْ wal ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti wa-āmanū bimā nuzzila `alā muḥammadin wahuwal ḥaqqu min rabbihim kaffara `anhum sayyi-ātihim wa-aṣlaḥa bālahum But those who have faith and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down to Muhammad—and it is the truth from their Lord—He shall absolve them of their misdeeds and set right their affairs.
3
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ وَأَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ ٱلْحَقَّ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَضْرِبُ ٱللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ أَمْثَـٰلَهُمْ dhālika bi-annal ladhīna kafarut-taba`ul bāṭila wa-annal ladhīna āmanut-taba`ul ḥaqqa min rabbihim ۚ kadhālika yaḍribullāhu linnāsi amthālahum That is because the faithless follow falsehood, and the faithful follow the truth from their Lord. That is how Allah draws comparisons for mankind.
4
فَإِذَا لَقِيتُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَضَرْبَ ٱلرِّقَابِ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَثْخَنتُمُوهُمْ فَشُدُّوا۟ ٱلْوَثَاقَ فَإِمَّا مَنًّۢا بَعْدُ وَإِمَّا فِدَآءً حَتَّىٰ تَضَعَ ٱلْحَرْبُ أَوْزَارَهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ وَلَوْ يَشَآءُ ٱللَّهُ لَٱنتَصَرَ مِنْهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لِّيَبْلُوَا۟ بَعْضَكُم بِبَعْضٍ ۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَلَن يُضِلَّ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ fa-idhā laqītumul ladhīna kafarū faḍarbar riqābi ḥattā idhā athkhantumūhum fashuddul wathāqa fa-immā mannan ba`du wa immā fidā-an ḥattā taḍa`al ḥarbu awzārahā ۚ dhālika walaw yashā-ullāhu lantaṣara minhum walākin liyabluwa ba`ḍakum biba`ḍ ۗ wal ladhīna qutilū fī sabīlillāhi falan yuḍilla a`mālahum When you meet the faithless in battle, strike their necks. When you have thoroughly decimated them, bind the captives firmly. Thereafter either oblige them [by setting them free] or take ransom, until the war lays down its burdens. That [is Allah’s ordinance]. Had Allah wished He could have taken vengeance on them, but that He may test some of you by means of others. As for those who were slain in the way of Allah, He will not let their works go fruitless.
5
سَيَهْدِيهِمْ وَيُصْلِحُ بَالَهُمْ sayahdīhim wayuṣliḥu bālahum He will guide them and set right their affairs,
6
وَيُدْخِلُهُمُ ٱلْجَنَّةَ عَرَّفَهَا لَهُمْ wayudkhiluhumul jannata `arrafahā lahum and admit them into paradise, with which He has acquainted them.
7
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِن تَنصُرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ يَنصُرْكُمْ وَيُثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَكُمْ yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanū in tanṣurullāha yanṣurkum wayuthabbit aqdāmakum O you who have faith! If you help Allah, He will help you and make your feet steady.
8
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فَتَعْسًا لَّهُمْ وَأَضَلَّ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ wal ladhīna kafarū fata`sal lahum wa-aḍalla a`mālahum As for the faithless, their lot will be to fall [into ruin], and He will render their works fruitless.
9
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَرِهُوا۟ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ dhālika bi-annahum karihū mā anzalallāhu fa-aḥbaṭa a`mālahum That is because they loathed what Allah has sent down, so He made their works fail.
10
أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ دَمَّرَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۖ وَلِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَمْثَـٰلُهَا afalam yasīrū fil-arḍi fayanẓurū kayfa kāna `āqibatul ladhīna min qablihim ۚ dammarallāhu `alayhim ۖ walilkāfirīna amthāluhā Have they not travelled through the land so that they may observe how was the fate of those who were before them? Allah destroyed them, and a similar [fate] awaits these faithless.
11
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَوْلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَأَنَّ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ لَا مَوْلَىٰ لَهُمْ dhālika bi-annallāha mawlal ladhīna āmanū wa-annal kāfirīna lā mawlā lahum That is because Allah is the protector of the faithful, and because the faithless have no protector.
12
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُدْخِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يَتَمَتَّعُونَ وَيَأْكُلُونَ كَمَا تَأْكُلُ ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمُ وَٱلنَّارُ مَثْوًى لَّهُمْ innallāha yudkhilul ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti jannātin tajrī min taḥtihal-anhār ۖ wal ladhīna kafarū yatamatta`ūna waya-kulūna kamā ta-kulul-an`āmu wan nāru mathwan lahum Indeed Allah will admit those who have faith and do righteous deeds into gardens with streams running in them. As for the faithless, they enjoy and eat like the cattle do, and the Fire will be their [final] abode.
13
وَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ هِىَ أَشَدُّ قُوَّةً مِّن قَرْيَتِكَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَخْرَجَتْكَ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ فَلَا نَاصِرَ لَهُمْ waka-ayyin min qaryatin hiya ashaddu quwwatan min qaryatikal latī akhrajatka ahlaknāhum falā nāṣira lahum How many a town We have destroyed which was more powerful than your town which expelled you, and they had no helper.
14
أَفَمَن كَانَ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ كَمَن زُيِّنَ لَهُۥ سُوٓءُ عَمَلِهِۦ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُم afaman kāna `alā bayyinatim min rabbihi kaman zuyyina lahu sū-u `amalihi wattaba`ū ahwā-ahum Is he who stands on a manifest proof from his Lord like those to whom the evil of their conduct is made to seem decorous and who follow their desires?
15
مَّثَلُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِى وُعِدَ ٱلْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ فِيهَآ أَنْهَـٰرٌ مِّن مَّآءٍ غَيْرِ ءَاسِنٍ وَأَنْهَـٰرٌ مِّن لَّبَنٍ لَّمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ طَعْمُهُۥ وَأَنْهَـٰرٌ مِّنْ خَمْرٍ لَّذَّةٍ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ وَأَنْهَـٰرٌ مِّنْ عَسَلٍ مُّصَفًّى ۖ وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ كَمَنْ هُوَ خَـٰلِدٌ فِى ٱلنَّارِ وَسُقُوا۟ مَآءً حَمِيمًا فَقَطَّعَ أَمْعَآءَهُمْ mathalul jannatil latī wu`idal muttaqūn ۖ fīhā anhārun min mā-in ghayri āsinin wa-anhārun min labanin lam yataghayyar ṭa`muhu wa-anhārun min khamrin ladhhatin lishhāribīna wa-anhārun min `asalin muṣaffā ۖ walahum fīhā min kullith thamarāti wa maghfiratun min rabbihim ۖ kaman huwa khālidun fin nāri wasuqū mā-an ḥamīman faqaṭṭa`a am`ā-ahum A description of the paradise promised to the Godwary: therein are streams of unstaling water and streams of milk unchanging in flavour, and streams of wine delicious to the drinkers, and streams of purified honey; there will be every kind of fruit in it for them, and forgiveness from their Lord. [Are such ones] like those who abide in the Fire and are given to drink boiling water which cuts up their bowels?
16
وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَسْتَمِعُ إِلَيْكَ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا خَرَجُوا۟ مِنْ عِندِكَ قَالُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ مَاذَا قَالَ ءَانِفًا ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ طَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ wa minhum man yastami`u ilayka ḥattā idhā kharajū min `indika qālū lilladhīna ūtul `il-ma mādhā qāla ānifā ۚ ulā-ikal ladhīna ṭaba`allāhu `alā qulūbihim wattaba`ū ahwā-ahum There are some among them who prick up their ears at you. But when they go out from your presence, they say to those who have been given knowledge, ‘What did he say just now?’ They are the ones on whose hearts Allah has set a seal, and they follow their own desires.
17
وَٱلَّذِينَ ٱهْتَدَوْا۟ زَادَهُمْ هُدًى وَءَاتَىٰهُمْ تَقْوَىٰهُمْ wal ladhīnah-tadaw zādahum hudan wa-ātāhum taqwāhum As for those who are [rightly] guided, He enhances their guidance and invests them with their Godwariness.
18
فَهَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّا ٱلسَّاعَةَ أَن تَأْتِيَهُم بَغْتَةً ۖ فَقَدْ جَآءَ أَشْرَاطُهَا ۚ فَأَنَّىٰ لَهُمْ إِذَا جَآءَتْهُمْ ذِكْرَىٰهُمْ fahal yanẓurūna illas sā`ata an ta-tiyahum baghtah ۖ faqad jā-a ashrāṭuhā ۚ fa-annā lahum idhā jā-at hum dhikrāhum Do they await anything except that the Hour should overtake them suddenly? Its portents have already come. When it overtakes them of what avail will the admonitions they were given?
19
فَٱعْلَمْ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ وَٱسْتَغْفِرْ لِذَنۢبِكَ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مُتَقَلَّبَكُمْ وَمَثْوَىٰكُمْ fa`lam annahu lā ilāha illallāhu wastaghfir lidhanbika walil-mu-minīna wal mu-mināt ۗ wallāhu ya`lamu mutaqallabakum wa mathwākum Know that there is no god except Allah, and plead [to Allah] for forgiveness of your sin and for the faithful, men and women. Allah knows your itinerary and your [final] abode.
20
وَيَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَوْلَا نُزِّلَتْ سُورَةٌ ۖ فَإِذَآ أُنزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ مُّحْكَمَةٌ وَذُكِرَ فِيهَا ٱلْقِتَالُ ۙ رَأَيْتَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ نَظَرَ ٱلْمَغْشِىِّ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۖ فَأَوْلَىٰ لَهُمْ wayaqūlul ladhīna āmanū lawlā nuzzilat sūrah ۖ fa-idhā unzilat sūratun muḥkamatun wadhukira fīhal qitālu ra-aytal ladhīna fī qulūbihim maraḍun yanẓurūna ilayka naẓaral maghshiyyi `alayhi minal mawt ۖ fa-awlā lahum The faithful say, ‘If only a surah were sent down!’ But when a conclusive surah is sent down and war is mentioned in it, you see those in whose hearts is a sickness looking upon you with the look of someone fainting at death. So woe to them!
21
طَاعَةٌ وَقَوْلٌ مَّعْرُوفٌ ۚ فَإِذَا عَزَمَ ٱلْأَمْرُ فَلَوْ صَدَقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَّهُمْ ṭā`atun waqawlun ma`rūf ۚ fa-idhā `azamal-amru falaw ṣadaqullāha lakāna khayral lahum Obedience and upright speech.... So when the matter has been resolved upon [concerning going to war], if they remain true to Allah that will surely be better for them.
22
فَهَلْ عَسَيْتُمْ إِن تَوَلَّيْتُمْ أَن تُفْسِدُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَتُقَطِّعُوٓا۟ أَرْحَامَكُمْ fahal `asaytum in tawallaytum an tufsidū fil-arḍi watuqaṭṭi`ū arḥāmakum May it not be that if you were to wield authority you would cause corruption in the land and ill-treat your blood relations?
23
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَعَنَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ فَأَصَمَّهُمْ وَأَعْمَىٰٓ أَبْصَـٰرَهُمْ ulā-ikal ladhīna la`anahumullāhu fa-aṣammahum wa-a`mā abṣārahum They are the ones whom Allah has cursed, so He made them deaf, and blinded their sight.
24
أَفَلَا يَتَدَبَّرُونَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ أَمْ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبٍ أَقْفَالُهَآ afalā yatadabbarūnal qur-āna am `alā qulūbin aqfāluhā Do they not contemplate the Quran, or are there locks on the hearts?
25
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱرْتَدُّوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَدْبَـٰرِهِم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلْهُدَى ۙ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ سَوَّلَ لَهُمْ وَأَمْلَىٰ لَهُمْ innal ladhīnar-taddū `alā adbārihim min ba`di mā tabayyana lahumul hudash shayṭānu sawwala lahum wa-amlā lahum Indeed those who turned their backs after the guidance had become clear to them, it was Satan who had seduced them, and he had given them [far-flung] hopes.
26
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ كَرِهُوا۟ مَا نَزَّلَ ٱللَّهُ سَنُطِيعُكُمْ فِى بَعْضِ ٱلْأَمْرِ ۖ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِسْرَارَهُمْ dhālika bi-annahum qālū lilladhīna karihū mā nazzalallāhu sanuṭī`ukum fī ba`ḍil-amr ۖ wallāhu ya`lamu isrārahum That is because they said to those who loathed what Allah had sent down: ‘We shall obey you in some matters,’ and Allah knows their secret dealings.
27
فَكَيْفَ إِذَا تَوَفَّتْهُمُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ يَضْرِبُونَ وُجُوهَهُمْ وَأَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ fakayfa idhā tawaffat-humul malā-ikatu yaḍribūna wujūhahum wa-adbārahum But how will it be [with them] when the angels take them away, striking their faces and their backs?!
28
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمُ ٱتَّبَعُوا۟ مَآ أَسْخَطَ ٱللَّهَ وَكَرِهُوا۟ رِضْوَٰنَهُۥ فَأَحْبَطَ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ dhālika bi-annahumut-taba`ū mā askhaṭallāha wakarihū riḍwānahu fa-aḥbaṭa a`mālahum That, because they pursued what displeased Allah, and loathed His pleasure. So He has made their works fail.
29
أَمْ حَسِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ أَن لَّن يُخْرِجَ ٱللَّهُ أَضْغَـٰنَهُمْ am ḥasibal ladhīna fī qulūbihim maraḍun an lan yukhrijallāhu aḍghānahum Do those in whose hearts is a sickness suppose that Allah will not expose their spite?
30
وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَأَرَيْنَـٰكَهُمْ فَلَعَرَفْتَهُم بِسِيمَـٰهُمْ ۚ وَلَتَعْرِفَنَّهُمْ فِى لَحْنِ ٱلْقَوْلِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ walaw nashā-u la-araynākahum fala`araftahum bisīmāhum ۚ walata`rifannahum fī laḥnil qawl ۚ wallāhu ya`lamu a`mālakum If We wish, We will show them to you so that you recognize them by their mark. Yet you will recognize them by their tone of speech, and Allah knows your deeds.
31
وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْ حَتَّىٰ نَعْلَمَ ٱلْمُجَـٰهِدِينَ مِنكُمْ وَٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ وَنَبْلُوَا۟ أَخْبَارَكُمْ walanabluwannakum ḥattā na`lamal mujāhidīna minkum waṣ ṣābirīna wanabluwa akhbārakum We will surely test you until We ascertain those of you who wage jihad and those who are steadfast, and We shall appraise your record.
32
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَشَآقُّوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلْهُدَىٰ لَن يَضُرُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ شَيْـًٔا وَسَيُحْبِطُ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ innal ladhīna kafarū waṣaddū `an sabīlillāhi washāqqur rasūla min ba`di mā tabayyana lahumul hudā lan yaḍurrullāha shay-an wasayuḥbiṭu a`mālahum Indeed those who are faithless and bar from the way of Allah and defy the Apostle after guidance has become clear to them, they will not hurt Allah in the least, and He shall make their works fail.
33
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَطِيعُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا۟ ٱلرَّسُولَ وَلَا تُبْطِلُوٓا۟ أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanū aṭī`ullāha wa-aṭī`ur rasūla walā tubṭilū a`mālakum O you who have faith! Obey Allah and obey the Apostle, and do not render your works void.
34
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ مَاتُوا۟ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ فَلَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمْ innal ladhīna kafarū waṣaddū `an sabīlillāhi thumma mātū wahum kuffārun falan yaghfirallāhu lahum Indeed those who are faithless and bar from the way of Allah and then die faithless, Allah will never forgive them.
35
فَلَا تَهِنُوا۟ وَتَدْعُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّلْمِ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ وَٱللَّهُ مَعَكُمْ وَلَن يَتِرَكُمْ أَعْمَـٰلَكُمْ falā tahinū watad`ū ilas sal-mi wa-antumul-a`lawna wallāhu ma`akum walan yatirakum a`mālakum So do not slacken and [do not] call for peace when you have the upper hand and Allah is with you, and He will not stint [the reward of] your works.
36
إِنَّمَا ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا لَعِبٌ وَلَهْوٌ ۚ وَإِن تُؤْمِنُوا۟ وَتَتَّقُوا۟ يُؤْتِكُمْ أُجُورَكُمْ وَلَا يَسْـَٔلْكُمْ أَمْوَٰلَكُمْ innamal ḥayātud dunyā la`ibun walahw ۚ wa in tu-minū watattaqū yu-tikum ujūrakum walā yas-alkum amwālakum The life of the world is just play and diversion, but if you are faithful and Godwary, He will give you your rewards, and will not ask your wealth [in return] from you.
37
إِن يَسْـَٔلْكُمُوهَا فَيُحْفِكُمْ تَبْخَلُوا۟ وَيُخْرِجْ أَضْغَـٰنَكُمْ in yas-alkumūhā fayuḥfikum tabkhalū wayukhrij aḍghānakum Should He ask it from you and press you, you will be stingy, and He will expose your spite.
38
هَـٰٓأَنتُمْ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ تُدْعَوْنَ لِتُنفِقُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ فَمِنكُم مَّن يَبْخَلُ ۖ وَمَن يَبْخَلْ فَإِنَّمَا يَبْخَلُ عَن نَّفْسِهِۦ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ ٱلْغَنِىُّ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلْفُقَرَآءُ ۚ وَإِن تَتَوَلَّوْا۟ يَسْتَبْدِلْ قَوْمًا غَيْرَكُمْ ثُمَّ لَا يَكُونُوٓا۟ أَمْثَـٰلَكُم hā-antum hā-ulā-i tud`awna litunfiqū fī sabīlillāhi faminkum man yabkhal ۖ wa man yabkhal fa-innamā yabkhalu `an nafsih ۚ wallāhul ghaniyyu wa-antumul fuqarā-u ۚ wa in tatawallaw yastabdil qawman ghayrakum thumma lā yakūnū amthālakum Ah! There you are, being invited to spend in the way of Allah; yet among you there are those who are stingy; and whoever is stingy is stingy only to himself. Allah is the All-sufficient, and you are all-needy, and if you turn away He will replace you with another people, and they will not be like you.
