بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
حمٓ ḥā mīm Ha, Meem.
2
وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ wal kitābil mubīn By the Manifest Book!
3
إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ innā anzalnāhu fī laylatim mubārakah ۚ innā kunnā mundhirīn We sent it down on a blessed night, and We have been warning [mankind].
4
فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ fīhā yufraqu kullu amrin ḥakīm Every definitive matter is resolved on it,
5
أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَآ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ amran min `indinā ۚ innā kunnā mursilīn as an ordinance from Us. We have been sending [apostles]
6
رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ raḥmatan min rabbik ۚ innahu huwas samī`ul `alīm as a mercy from your Lord—indeed He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing—
7
رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ rabbis samāwāti wal-arḍi wa mā baynahumā ۖ in kuntum mūqinīn the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and whatever is between them, should you have conviction.
8
لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۖ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ lā ilāha illā huwa yuḥyī wayumīt ۖ rabbukum warabbu ābā-ikumul-awwalīn There is no god except Him: He gives life and brings death, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers.
9
بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ bal hum fī shakkiy yal`abūn But they play around in doubt.
10
فَٱرْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِى ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ fartaqib yawma ta-tis samā-u bidukhānin mubīn So watch out for the day when the sky brings on a manifest smoke,
11
يَغْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ ۖ هَـٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ yaghshan nās ۖ hādhā `adhābun alīm enveloping the people. [They will cry out:] ‘This is a painful punishment.
12
رَّبَّنَا ٱكْشِفْ عَنَّا ٱلْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ rabbanak-shif `annal `adhāba innā mu-minūn Our Lord! Remove this punishment from us. Indeed we have believed!’
13
أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ annā lahumudh dhikrā waqad jā-ahum rasūlun mubīn What will the admonition avail them, when a manifest apostle had already come to them,
14
ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجْنُونٌ thumma tawallaw `anhu waqālū mu`allamun majnūn but they turned away from him, and said, ‘A tutored madman?’
15
إِنَّا كَاشِفُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ عَآئِدُونَ innā kāshiful `adhābi qalīlā ۚ innakum `ā-idūn Indeed We will withdraw the punishment a little; but you will revert [to your earlier ways].
16
يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ ٱلْبَطْشَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ yawma nabṭishul baṭshatal kubrā innā muntaqimūn The day We shall strike with the most terrible striking, We will indeed take vengeance [on them].
17
وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ walaqad fatannā qablahum qawma fir`awna wajā-ahum rasūlun karīm Certainly We tried the people of Pharaoh before them, when a noble apostle came to them,
18
أَنْ أَدُّوٓا۟ إِلَىَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ an addū ilayya `ibādallāh ۖ innī lakum rasūlun amīn [saying,] ‘Give over the servants of Allah to me; indeed I am a trusted apostle [sent] to you.
19
وَأَن لَّا تَعْلُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ wa-an lā ta`lū `alallāh ۖ innī ātīkum bisulṭānin mubīn Do not defy Allah. Indeed I bring you a manifest authority.
20
وَإِنِّى عُذْتُ بِرَبِّى وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِ wa innī `udhtu birabbī warabbikum an tarjumūn I seek the protection of my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me.
21
وَإِن لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ لِى فَٱعْتَزِلُونِ wa in lam tu-minū lī fa`tazilūn And if you do not believe me, keep out of my way.’
22
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٌ مُّجْرِمُونَ fada`ā rabbahu anna hā-ulā-i qawmun mujrimūn Then he invoked his Lord, [saying,] ‘These are indeed a guilty lot.’
23
فَأَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى لَيْلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ fa-asri bi`ibādī laylan innakum muttaba`ūn [Allah told him,] ‘Set out by night with My servants; for you will be pursued.
24
وَٱتْرُكِ ٱلْبَحْرَ رَهْوًا ۖ إِنَّهُمْ جُندٌ مُّغْرَقُونَ wātrukil baḥra rahwā ۖ innahum jundun mughraqūn Leave behind the sea unmoving; for they will be a drowned host.’
25
كَمْ تَرَكُوا۟ مِن جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ kam tarakū min jannātin wa`uyūn How many gardens and springs did they leave behind!
26
وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ wazurū`in wa maqāmin karīm Fields and splendid places,
27
وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا۟ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهِينَ wana`matin kānū fīhā fākihīn and the affluence wherein they rejoiced!
28
كَذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَا قَوْمًا ءَاخَرِينَ kadhālik ۖ wa-awrathnāhā qawman ākharīn So it was; and We bequeathed them to another people.
29
فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنظَرِينَ famā bakat `alayhimus samā-u wal-arḍu wa mā kānū munẓarīn So neither the sky wept for them, nor the earth; nor were they granted any respite.
30
وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْمُهِينِ walaqad najjaynā banī isrā-iyla minal `adhābil muhīn Certainly We delivered the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment
31
مِن فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ min fir`awn ۚ innahu kāna `āliyan minal musrifīn of Pharaoh. Indeed, he was a tyrant among the transgressors.
32
وَلَقَدِ ٱخْتَرْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عَلَى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ walaqadikh-tarnāhum `alā `il-min `alal-`ālamīn Certainly We chose them knowingly above all the nations,
33
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَـٰٓؤٌا۟ مُّبِينٌ wa-ātaynāhum minal-āyāti mā fīhi balā-un mubīn and We gave them some signs in which there was a manifest test.
34
إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَ inna hā-ulā-i layaqūlūn These ones say,
35
إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ in hiya illā mawtatunal-ūlā wa mā naḥnu bimunsharīn ‘It will be only our first death, and we shall not be resurrected.
36
فَأْتُوا۟ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ fa-tū bi-ābā-inā in kuntum ṣādiqīn Bring our fathers back [to life], if you are truthful.’
37
أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ ahum khayrun am qawmu tubba`in wal ladhīna min qablihim ۚ ahlaknāhum ۖ innahum kānū mujrimīn Are they better, or the people of Tubba‘, and those who were before them? We destroyed them; indeed, they were guilty.
38
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَـٰعِبِينَ wa mā khalaqnas samāwāti wal-arḍa wa mā baynahumā lā`ibīn We did not create the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them for play.
39
مَا خَلَقْنَـٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ mā khalaqnāhumā illā bil ḥaqqi walākinna aktharahum lā ya`lamūn We did not create them except with consummate wisdom; but most of them do not know.
40
إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ مِيقَـٰتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ inna yawmal faṣli mīqātuhum ajma`īn Indeed the Day of Judgement is the tryst for them all,
41
يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ yawma lā yughnī mawlan `an mawlan shay-an walā hum yunṣarūn the day when a friend will not avail a friend in any way, nor will they be helped,
42
إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ illā man raḥimallāh ۚ innahu huwal `azīzur raḥīm except for him on whom Allah has mercy. Indeed He is the All-mighty, the All-merciful.
43
إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ ٱلزَّقُّومِ inna shajarataz zaqqūm Indeed the tree of Zaqqum
44
طَعَامُ ٱلْأَثِيمِ ṭa`āmul-athīm will be the food of the sinful.
45
كَٱلْمُهْلِ يَغْلِى فِى ٱلْبُطُونِ kal muhli yaghlī fil buṭūn Like molten copper it will boil in their bellies,
46
كَغَلْىِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ kaghalyil ḥamīm seething like boiling water.
47
خُذُوهُ فَٱعْتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ khudhūhu fa`tilūhu ilā sawā-il jaḥīm [The keepers of hell will be told,] ‘Seize him and drag him to the middle of hell,
48
ثُمَّ صُبُّوا۟ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِۦ مِنْ عَذَابِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ thumma ṣubbū fawqa ra-sihi min `adhābil ḥamīm then pour over his head boiling water as punishment,
49
ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْكَرِيمُ dhuq innaka antal `azīzul karīm [and tell them,] “Taste this! Indeed you are the [self-styled] mighty and noble!
50
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمْتَرُونَ inna hādhā mā kuntum bihi tamtarūn This is what you used to doubt!’
51
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ innal muttaqīna fī maqāmin amīn Indeed the Godwary will be in a safe place,
52
فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ fī jannātin wa`uyūn amid gardens and springs,
53
يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ yalbasūna min sundusin wa istabraqin mutaqābilīn dressed in fine silk and brocade, sitting face to face.
54
كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ kadhālika wazawwajnāhum biḥūrin `īn So shall it be, and We shall wed them to black-eyed houris.
55
يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ yad`ūna fīhā bikulli fākihatin āminīn Secure [from any kind of harm,] there they will call for every kind of fruit [they wish].
56
لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا ٱلْمَوْتَ إِلَّا ٱلْمَوْتَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ lā yadhūqūna fīhal mawta illal-mawtatal-ūlā ۖ wawaqāhum `adhābal jaḥīm Other than the first death, they will not taste death therein, and He will save them from the punishment of hell
57
فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ faḍlan min rabbik ۚ dhālika huwal fawzul `aẓīm —a grace from your Lord. That is the great success.
58
فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَـٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ fa-innamā yassarnāhu bilisānika la`allahum yatadhakkarūn Indeed We have made it simple in your language, so that they may take admonition.
59
فَٱرْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُم مُّرْتَقِبُونَ fartaqib innahum murtaqibūn So wait! They [too] are waiting.
