حمٓ ḥā mīm Ha, Meem.
2
تَنزِيلٌ مِّنَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ tanzīlun minar raḥmānir raḥīm A [gradually] sent down [revelation] from the All-beneficent, the All-merciful,

كِتَـٰبٌ فُصِّلَتْ ءَايَـٰتُهُۥ قُرْءَانًا عَرَبِيًّا لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ kitābun fuṣṣilat āyātuhu qur-ānan `arabiyyal liqawmiy ya`lamūn [this is] a Book whose signs have been elaborated for a people who have knowledge, an Arabic Quran,
4
بَشِيرًا وَنَذِيرًا فَأَعْرَضَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ bashīran wanadhīran fa-a`raḍa aktharuhum fahum lā yasma`ūn a bearer of good news and a warner. But most of them turn away [from it], [and] so they do not listen.
5
وَقَالُوا۟ قُلُوبُنَا فِىٓ أَكِنَّةٍ مِّمَّا تَدْعُونَآ إِلَيْهِ وَفِىٓ ءَاذَانِنَا وَقْرٌ وَمِنۢ بَيْنِنَا وَبَيْنِكَ حِجَابٌ فَٱعْمَلْ إِنَّنَا عَـٰمِلُونَ waqālū qulūbunā fī akinnatim mimmā tad`ūnā ilayhi wafī ādhāninā waqrun wa min bayninā wabaynika ḥijābun fa`mal innanā `āmilūn They say, ‘Our hearts are in veils [which shut them off] from what you invite us to, and there is a deafness in our ears, and there is a curtain between us and you. So act [as your faith requires]; we too are acting [according to our own].’
6
قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَىَّ أَنَّمَآ إِلَـٰهُكُمْ إِلَـٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌ فَٱسْتَقِيمُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ۗ وَوَيْلٌ لِّلْمُشْرِكِينَ qul innamā ana basharun mithlukum yūḥā ilayya annamā ilāhukum ilāhun wāḥidun fastaqīmū ilayhi wastaghfirūh ۗ wawaylul lil-mushrikīn Say, ‘I am just a human like you. It has been revealed to me that your God is the One God. So worship Him single-mindedly and plead to Him for forgiveness.’ And woe to the polytheists
7
ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَهُم بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ هُمْ كَـٰفِرُونَ alladhīna lā yu-tūnaz zakāta wahum bil-ākhirati hum kāfirūn —those who do not pay the zakat and disbelieve in the Hereafter.
8
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ innal ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti lahum ajrun ghayru mamnūn As for those who have faith and do righteous deeds, there will be an everlasting reward for them.
9
قُلْ أَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَكْفُرُونَ بِٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْأَرْضَ فِى يَوْمَيْنِ وَتَجْعَلُونَ لَهُۥٓ أَندَادًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ رَبُّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ qul a-innakum latakfurūna bil ladhī khalaqal-arḍa fī yawmayni wataj`alūna lahu andādā ۚ dhālika rabbul `ālamīn Say, ‘Do you really disbelieve in Him who created the earth in two days, and ascribe partners to Him? That is the Lord of all the worlds!’
10
وَجَعَلَ فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ مِن فَوْقِهَا وَبَـٰرَكَ فِيهَا وَقَدَّرَ فِيهَآ أَقْوَٰتَهَا فِىٓ أَرْبَعَةِ أَيَّامٍ سَوَآءً لِّلسَّآئِلِينَ waja`ala fīhā rawāsiya min fawqihā wabāraka fīhā waqaddara fīhā aqwātahā fī arba`ati ayyāmin sawā-an lissā-ilīn He set in it firm mountains, [rising] above it, blessed it, and ordained in it, in four days, [various] means of sustenance, equally for all seekers.
11
ثُمَّ ٱسْتَوَىٰٓ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَهِىَ دُخَانٌ فَقَالَ لَهَا وَلِلْأَرْضِ ٱئْتِيَا طَوْعًا أَوْ كَرْهًا قَالَتَآ أَتَيْنَا طَآئِعِينَ thummas-tawā ilas samā-i wahiya dukhānun faqāla lahā walil-arḍi-tiyā ṭaw`an aw karhan qālatā ataynā ṭā-i`īn Then He turned to the heaven, and it was smoke, and He said to it and to the earth, ‘Come, willingly or unwillingly!’ They said, ‘We come obediently.’
12
فَقَضَىٰهُنَّ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَاتٍ فِى يَوْمَيْنِ وَأَوْحَىٰ فِى كُلِّ سَمَآءٍ أَمْرَهَا ۚ وَزَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِمَصَـٰبِيحَ وَحِفْظًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْعَلِيمِ faqaḍāhunna sab`a samāwātin fī yawmayni wa-awḥā fī kulli samā-in amrahā ۚ wazayyannas samā-ad dunyā bimaṣābīḥa waḥifẓā ۚ dhālika taqdīrul `azīzil `alīm Then He set them up as seven heavens in two days, and revealed [to the angels] in each heaven its ordinance. We have adorned the lowest heaven with lamps, and guarded them. That is the ordaining of the All-mighty, the All-knowing.
13
فَإِنْ أَعْرَضُوا۟ فَقُلْ أَنذَرْتُكُمْ صَـٰعِقَةً مِّثْلَ صَـٰعِقَةِ عَادٍ وَثَمُودَ fa-in a`raḍū faqul andhartukum ṣā`iqatan mithla ṣā`iqati `ādin wathamūd But if they turn away, say, ‘I warn you of a thunderbolt, like the thunderbolt of ‘Ad and Thamud.’
14
إِذْ جَآءَتْهُمُ ٱلرُّسُلُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوٓا۟ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَوْ شَآءَ رَبُّنَا لَأَنزَلَ مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً فَإِنَّا بِمَآ أُرْسِلْتُم بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ idh jā-at humur rusulu min bayni aydīhim wa min khalfihim allā ta`budū illallāh ۖ qālū law shā-a rabbunā la-anzala malā-ikatan fa-innā bimā ursiltum bihi kāfirūn When the apostles came to them, before them and in their own time, saying, ‘Worship no one except Allah!’ They said, ‘Had our Lord wished, He would have sent down angels [to us]. We indeed disbelieve in what you have been sent with.’
15
فَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ وَقَالُوا۟ مَنْ أَشَدُّ مِنَّا قُوَّةً ۖ أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَهُمْ هُوَ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُمْ قُوَّةً ۖ وَكَانُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا يَجْحَدُونَ fa-ammā `ādun fastakbarū fil-arḍi bighayril ḥaqqi waqālū man ashaddu minnā quwwah ۖ awalam yaraw annallāhal ladhī khalaqahum huwa ashaddu minhum quwwah ۖ wakānū bi-āyātinā yajḥadūn As for [the people of] ‘Ad, they acted arrogantly in the earth unduly, and they said, ‘Who is more powerful than us?’ Did they not see that Allah, who created them, is more powerful than them? They used to impugn Our signs;
16
فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِىٓ أَيَّامٍ نَّحِسَاتٍ لِّنُذِيقَهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْخِزْىِ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَخْزَىٰ ۖ وَهُمْ لَا يُنصَرُونَ fa-arsalnā `alayhim rīḥan ṣarṣaran fī ayyāmin naḥisātin linudhīqahum `adhābal khizyi fil ḥayātid dunyā ۖ wala`adhābul-ākhirati akhzā ۖ wahum lā yunṣarūn so We unleashed upon them an icy gale during ill-fated days, in order that We might make them taste a humiliating punishment in the life of the world. Yet the punishment of the Hereafter will be surely more disgraceful, and they will not be helped.
17
وَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمْ فَٱسْتَحَبُّوا۟ ٱلْعَمَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ فَأَخَذَتْهُمْ صَـٰعِقَةُ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْهُونِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ wa-ammā thamūdu fahadaynāhum fastaḥabbul `amā `alal-hudā fa-akhadhat-hum ṣā`iqatul `adhābil hūni bimā kānū yaksibūn As for [the people of] Thamud, We guided them, but they preferred blindness to guidance. So the bolt of a humiliating punishment seized them because of what they used to earn.
18
وَنَجَّيْنَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ يَتَّقُونَ wanajjaynal ladhīna āmanū wakānū yattaqūn And We delivered those who had faith and were Godwary.
19
وَيَوْمَ يُحْشَرُ أَعْدَآءُ ٱللَّهِ إِلَى ٱلنَّارِ فَهُمْ يُوزَعُونَ wayawma yuḥsharu a`dā-ullāhi ilan nāri fahum yūza`ūn The day the enemies of Allah are marched out toward the Fire, while they are in check,
20
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا مَا جَآءُوهَا شَهِدَ عَلَيْهِمْ سَمْعُهُمْ وَأَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ وَجُلُودُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ ḥattā idhā mā jā-ūhā shahida `alayhim sam`uhum wa-abṣāruhum wajulūduhum bimā kānū ya`malūn when they come to it, their hearing, their eyes and their skins will bear witness against them concerning what they used to do.
21
وَقَالُوا۟ لِجُلُودِهِمْ لِمَ شَهِدتُّمْ عَلَيْنَا ۖ قَالُوٓا۟ أَنطَقَنَا ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنطَقَ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ وَهُوَ خَلَقَكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ waqālū lijulūdihim lima shahidtum `alaynā ۖ qālū anṭaqanallāhul ladhī anṭaqa kulla shay-in wahuwa khalaqakum awwala marratin wa ilayhi turja`ūn They will say to their skins, ‘Why did you bear witness against us?’ They will say, ‘We were given speech by Allah, who gave speech to all things. He created you the first time, and you are being brought back to Him.
22
وَمَا كُنتُمْ تَسْتَتِرُونَ أَن يَشْهَدَ عَلَيْكُمْ سَمْعُكُمْ وَلَآ أَبْصَـٰرُكُمْ وَلَا جُلُودُكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن ظَنَنتُمْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَعْلَمُ كَثِيرًا مِّمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ wa mā kuntum tastatirūna an yash-hada `alaykum sam`ukum walā abṣārukum walā julūdukum walākin ẓanantum annallāha lā ya`lamu kathīran mimmā ta`malūn You did not use to conceal yourselves [while perpetrating sinful acts] lest your hearing, your eyes, or your skins should bear witness against you, but you thought that Allah did not know most of what you did.
23
وَذَٰلِكُمْ ظَنُّكُمُ ٱلَّذِى ظَنَنتُم بِرَبِّكُمْ أَرْدَىٰكُمْ فَأَصْبَحْتُم مِّنَ ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ wadhālikum ẓannukumul ladhī ẓanantum birabbikum ardākum fa-aṣbaḥtum minal khāsirīn That misjudgement, which you entertained about your Lord ruined you. So you became losers.’
24
فَإِن يَصْبِرُوا۟ فَٱلنَّارُ مَثْوًى لَّهُمْ ۖ وَإِن يَسْتَعْتِبُوا۟ فَمَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُعْتَبِينَ fa-in yaṣbirū fan nāru mathwan lahum ۖ wa in yasta`tibū famā hum minal mu`tabīn Should they be patient, the Fire is their abode; and should they seek to propitiate [Allah], they will not be redeemed.
25
وَقَيَّضْنَا لَهُمْ قُرَنَآءَ فَزَيَّنُوا۟ لَهُم مَّا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَحَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقَوْلُ فِىٓ أُمَمٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ خَـٰسِرِينَ waqayyaḍnā lahum quranā-a fazayyanū lahum mā bayna aydīhim wa mā khalfahum waḥaqqa `alayhimul qawlu fī umamin qad khalat min qablihim minal jinni wal-ins ۖ innahum kānū khāsirīn We have assigned them companions who make their present [conduct] and future [state] seem decorous to them, and the word became due against them along with the nations of jinn and humans that passed away before them. They were indeed losers.
26
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَا تَسْمَعُوا۟ لِهَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانِ وَٱلْغَوْا۟ فِيهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَغْلِبُونَ waqālal ladhīna kafarū lā tasma`ū lihādhal qur-āni wal ghaw fīhi la`allakum taghlibūn The faithless say, ‘Do not listen to this Quran and hoot it down so that you may prevail [over the Apostle].’
27
فَلَنُذِيقَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَسْوَأَ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ falanudhīqannal ladhīna kafarū `adhāban shadīdan walanajziyannahum aswa-al ladhī kānū ya`malūn We will surely make the faithless taste a severe punishment, and We will surely requite them by the worst of what they used to do.
28
ذَٰلِكَ جَزَآءُ أَعْدَآءِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلنَّارُ ۖ لَهُمْ فِيهَا دَارُ ٱلْخُلْدِ ۖ جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا يَجْحَدُونَ dhālika jazā-u a`dā-illāhin nār ۖ lahum fīhā dārul khuld ۖ jazā-an bimā kānū bi-āyātinā yajḥadūn That is the requital of the enemies of Allah—the Fire! In it, they will have an everlasting abode, as a requital for their impugning Our signs.
29
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ رَبَّنَآ أَرِنَا ٱلَّذَيْنِ أَضَلَّانَا مِنَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ نَجْعَلْهُمَا تَحْتَ أَقْدَامِنَا لِيَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَ waqālal ladhīna kafarū rabbanā arinal ladhayni aḍallānā minal jinni wal-insi naj`alhumā taḥta aqdāminā liyakūnā minal-asfalīn The faithless will say, ‘Our Lord! Show us those who led us astray from among jinn and humans so that we may trample them under our feet, so that they may be among the lowermost!’
30
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوا۟ رَبُّنَا ٱللَّهُ ثُمَّ ٱسْتَقَـٰمُوا۟ تَتَنَزَّلُ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ أَلَّا تَخَافُوا۟ وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا۟ وَأَبْشِرُوا۟ بِٱلْجَنَّةِ ٱلَّتِى كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ innal ladhīna qālū rabbunallāhu thummas-taqāmū tatanazzalu `alayhimul malā-ikatu allā takhāfū walā taḥzanū wa-abshirū bil jannatil latī kuntum tū`adūn Indeed those who say, ‘Our Lord is Allah!’ and then remain steadfast, the angels descend upon them, [saying,] ‘Do not fear, nor be grieved! Receive the good news of the paradise, which you have been promised.
31
نَحْنُ أَوْلِيَآؤُكُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَفِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۖ وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَا تَشْتَهِىٓ أَنفُسُكُمْ وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَا تَدَّعُونَ naḥnu awliyā-ukum fil ḥayātid dunyā wafil-ākhirah ۖ walakum fīhā mā tashtahī anfusukum walakum fīhā mā tadda`ūn We are your friends in the life of this world and in the Hereafter, and you will have in it whatever your souls desire, and you will have in it whatever you ask for,
32
نُزُلًا مِّنْ غَفُورٍ رَّحِيمٍ nuzulan min ghafūrin raḥīm as a hospitality from One all-forgiving, all-merciful.’
33
وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ قَوْلًا مِّمَّن دَعَآ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَعَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًا وَقَالَ إِنَّنِى مِنَ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ wa man aḥsanu qawlan mimman da`ā ilallāhi wa`amila ṣāliḥan waqāla innanī minal muslimīn Who has a better call than him who summons to Allah and acts righteously and says, ‘Indeed I am one of the Muslims’?
34
وَلَا تَسْتَوِى ٱلْحَسَنَةُ وَلَا ٱلسَّيِّئَةُ ۚ ٱدْفَعْ بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ فَإِذَا ٱلَّذِى بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَهُۥ عَدَٰوَةٌ كَأَنَّهُۥ وَلِىٌّ حَمِيمٌ walā tastawil ḥasanatu walas sayyi-ah ۚ id-fa` bil latī hiya aḥsanu fa-idhal ladhī baynaka wabaynahu `adāwatun ka-annahu waliyyun ḥamīm Good and evil [conduct] are not equal. Repel [evil] with what is best. [If you do so,] he between whom and you was enmity, will then be as though he were a sympathetic friend.
35
وَمَا يُلَقَّىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا۟ وَمَا يُلَقَّىٰهَآ إِلَّا ذُو حَظٍّ عَظِيمٍ wa mā yulaqqāhā illal ladhīna ṣabarū wa mā yulaqqāhā illā dhū ḥaẓẓin `aẓīm But none is granted it except those who are patient, and none is granted it except the greatly endowed.
36
وَإِمَّا يَنزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ نَزْغٌ فَٱسْتَعِذْ بِٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ wa immā yanzaghannaka minash shayṭāni nazghun fasta`idh billāh ۖ innahu huwas samī`ul `alīm Should an incitement from Satan prompt you [to ill feeling], seek the protection of Allah. Indeed, He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.
37
وَمِنْ ءَايَـٰتِهِ ٱلَّيْلُ وَٱلنَّهَارُ وَٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ ۚ لَا تَسْجُدُوا۟ لِلشَّمْسِ وَلَا لِلْقَمَرِ وَٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَهُنَّ إِن كُنتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ wa min āyātihil laylu wan nahāru wash shamsu wal qamar ۚ lā tasjudū lishhamsi walā lilqamari wasjudū lillāhil ladhī khalaqahunna in kuntum iyyāhu ta`budūn Among His signs are night and day, and the sun and the moon. Do not prostrate to the sun, nor to the moon, but prostrate to Allah who created them, if it is Him that you worship.
38
But if they disdain [the worship of Allah], those who are near your Lord glorify Him night and day, and they are not wearied.
39
وَمِنْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ أَنَّكَ تَرَى ٱلْأَرْضَ خَـٰشِعَةً فَإِذَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْهَا ٱلْمَآءَ ٱهْتَزَّتْ وَرَبَتْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَحْيَاهَا لَمُحْىِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ wa min āyātihi annaka taral-arḍa khāshi`atan fa-idhā anzalnā `alayhal mā-ah-tazzat warabat ۚ innal ladhī aḥyāhā lamuḥyil mawtā ۚ innahu `alā kulli shay-in qadīr Among His signs, is that you see the earth desolate; but when We send down water upon it, it stirs and swells. Indeed, He who revives it will also revive the dead. Indeed, He has power over all things.
40
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُلْحِدُونَ فِىٓ ءَايَـٰتِنَا لَا يَخْفَوْنَ عَلَيْنَآ ۗ أَفَمَن يُلْقَىٰ فِى ٱلنَّارِ خَيْرٌ أَم مَّن يَأْتِىٓ ءَامِنًا يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۚ ٱعْمَلُوا۟ مَا شِئْتُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ innal ladhīna yulḥidūna fī āyātinā lā yakhfawna `alaynā ۗ afaman yulqā fin nāri khayrun am man ya-tī āminan yawmal qiyāmah ۚ i'-malū mā shi-tum ۖ innahu bimā ta`malūna baṣīr Those who abuse Our signs are not hidden from Us. Is someone who is cast in the Fire better off, or someone who arrives safely on the Day of Resurrection? Act as you wish; indeed He watches what you do.
41
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِٱلذِّكْرِ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ ۖ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَكِتَـٰبٌ عَزِيزٌ innal ladhīna kafarū bidh dhikri lammā jā-ahum ۖ wa innahu lakitābun `azīz Those who reject the Reminder when it comes to them... Indeed, it is an august Book:
42
لَّا يَأْتِيهِ ٱلْبَـٰطِلُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَلَا مِنْ خَلْفِهِۦ ۖ تَنزِيلٌ مِّنْ حَكِيمٍ حَمِيدٍ lā ya-tīhil bāṭilu min bayni yadayhi walā min khalfih ۖ tanzīlun min ḥakīmin ḥamīd falsehood cannot approach it, at present or in future, a [revelation gradually] sent down from One all-wise, all-laudable.
43
مَّا يُقَالُ لَكَ إِلَّا مَا قَدْ قِيلَ لِلرُّسُلِ مِن قَبْلِكَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغْفِرَةٍ وَذُو عِقَابٍ أَلِيمٍ mā yuqālu laka illā mā qad qīla lirrusuli min qablik ۚ inna rabbaka ladhū maghfiratin wadhū `iqābin alīm Nothing is said to you except what has already been said to the apostles before you. Indeed your Lord is One who forgives and also metes out a painful retribution.

وَلَوْ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ قُرْءَانًا أَعْجَمِيًّا لَّقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَا فُصِّلَتْ ءَايَـٰتُهُۥٓ ۖ ءَا۬عْجَمِىٌّ وَعَرَبِىٌّ ۗ قُلْ هُوَ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ هُدًى وَشِفَآءٌ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ فِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْرٌ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَمًى ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يُنَادَوْنَ مِن مَّكَانٍۭ بَعِيدٍ walaw ja`alnāhu qur-ānan a`jamiyyal laqālū lawlā fuṣṣilat āyātuh ۖ a-a`jamiyyun wa`arabiyy ۗ qul huwa lilladhīna āmanū hudan washifā-u ۖ wal ladhīna lā yu-minūna fī ādhānihim waqrun wahuwa `alayhim `amā ۚ ulā-ika yunādawna min makānin ba`īd Had We made it a non-Arabic Quran, they would have said, ‘Why have not its signs been articulated?’ ‘What! A non-Arabian [scripture] and an Arabian [prophet]!?’ Say, ‘It is guidance and healing for those who have faith. As for those who are faithless, there is a deafness in their ears and it is lost to their sight: [to them it is as if] they were called from a distant place.’

وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ فَٱخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ ۗ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَقُضِىَ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَفِى شَكٍّ مِّنْهُ مُرِيبٍ walaqad ātaynā mūsal kitāba fakhtulifa fīh ۗ walawlā kalimatun sabaqat min rabbika laquḍiya baynahum ۚ wa innahum lafī shakkin minhu murīb Certainly We gave Moses the Book, but differences arose about it; and were it not for a prior decree of your Lord, judgement would have been made between them, for they are in grave doubt concerning it.

مَّنْ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًا فَلِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ وَمَنْ أَسَآءَ فَعَلَيْهَا ۗ وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِظَلَّـٰمٍ لِّلْعَبِيدِ man `amila ṣāliḥan falinafsih ۖ wa man asā-a fa`alayhā ۗ wa mā rabbuka biẓallāmin lil`abīd Whoever acts righteously, it is for [the benefit of] his own soul, and whoever does evil, it is to its detriment, and your Lord is not tyrannical to His servants.

On the day when He will call out to them, ‘Where are My ‘partners’?’ They will say, ‘We informed You that there is no witness amongst us.’

لَّا يَسْـَٔمُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مِن دُعَآءِ ٱلْخَيْرِ وَإِن مَّسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ فَيَـُٔوسٌ قَنُوطٌ lā yas-amul-insānu min du`ā-il khayri wa in massahush sharru faya-ūsun qanūṭ Man is never wearied of supplicating for good, and should any ill befall him, he becomes hopeless and despondent.

وَلَئِنْ أَذَقْنَـٰهُ رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا مِنۢ بَعْدِ ضَرَّآءَ مَسَّتْهُ لَيَقُولَنَّ هَـٰذَا لِى وَمَآ أَظُنُّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ قَآئِمَةً وَلَئِن رُّجِعْتُ إِلَىٰ رَبِّىٓ إِنَّ لِى عِندَهُۥ لَلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ فَلَنُنَبِّئَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِمَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُم مِّنْ عَذَابٍ غَلِيظٍ wala-in adhaqnāhu raḥmatan minnā min ba`di ḍarrā-a massat-hu layaqūlanna hādhā lī wa mā aẓunnus sā`ata qā-imatan wala-in ruji`tu ilā rabbī inna lī `indahu lalḥusnā ۚ falanunabbi-annal ladhīna kafarū bimā `amilū walanudhīqannahum min `adhābin ghalīẓ If, after distress has befallen him, We let him have a taste of Our mercy, he says, ‘This is my due! I do not think the Hour will ever come, and in case I am returned to my Lord, I will indeed have the best [reward] with Him.’ So We will surely inform the faithless about what they have done, and will surely make them taste a harsh punishment.

وَإِذَآ أَنْعَمْنَا عَلَى ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِ أَعْرَضَ وَنَـَٔا بِجَانِبِهِۦ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ فَذُو دُعَآءٍ عَرِيضٍ wa idhā an`amnā `alal-insāni a`raḍa wana-ā bijānibihi wa idhā massahush sharru fadhū du`ā-in `arīḍ When We bless man, he is disregardful and turns aside; but when an ill befalls him, he makes protracted supplications.
