بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
وَٱلصَّـٰٓفَّـٰتِ صَفًّا waṣ ṣāffāti ṣaffā By the [angels] ranged in ranks,
2
فَٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ زَجْرًا faz zājirāti zajrā by the ones who drive [the clouds] vigorously,
3
فَٱلتَّـٰلِيَـٰتِ ذِكْرًا fat tāliyāti dhikrā by the ones who recite the reminder:
4
إِنَّ إِلَـٰهَكُمْ لَوَٰحِدٌ inna ilāhakum lawāḥid indeed your God is certainly One,
5
رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ rabbus samāwāti wal-arḍi wa mā baynahumā warabbul mashāriq the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, and the Lord of the easts.
6
إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ ٱلْكَوَاكِبِ innā zayyannas samā-ad dunyā bizīnatinil-kawākib Indeed We have adorned the lowest heaven with the finery of the stars,
7
وَحِفْظًا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَـٰنٍ مَّارِدٍ waḥifẓan min kulli shayṭānin mārid and to guard from any froward devil.
8
لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلَإِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍ lā yassamma`ūna ilal-mala-il-a`lā wayuqdhafūna min kulli jānib They do not eavesdrop on the Supernal Elite—they are shot at from every side,
9
دُحُورًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ duḥūrā ۖ walahum `adhābun wāṣib to drive them away, and there is a perpetual punishment for them—
10
إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ ٱلْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ illā man khaṭifal khaṭfata fa-atba`ahu shihābun thāqib except any who snatches a snatch, whereat a piercing flame pursues him.
11
فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَآ ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّن طِينٍ لَّازِبٍۭ fastaftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan am man khalaqnā ۚ innā khalaqnāhum min ṭīnin lāzib Ask them, is their creation more prodigious or [that of other creatures] that We have created? Indeed, We created them from a viscous clay.
12
بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ bal `ajibta wayaskharūn Indeed you wonder, while they engage in ridicule,
13
وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ لَا يَذْكُرُونَ wa idhā dhukkirū lā yadhkurūn and [even] when admonished do not take admonition,
14
وَإِذَا رَأَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ wa idhā ra-aw āyatan yastaskhirūn and when they see a sign they make it an object of ridicule,
15
وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ waqālū in hādhā illā siḥrun mubīn and say, ‘This is nothing but plain magic!’
16
أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ a-idhā mitnā wakunnā turāban wa`iẓāman a-innā lamab`ūthūn ‘What! When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we be resurrected?
17
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ awa-ābā-unal-awwalūn And our forefathers too?!’
18
قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَٰخِرُونَ qul na`am wa-antum dākhirūn Say, ‘Yes! And you will be utterly humble.’
19
فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَ fa-innamā hiya zajratun wāḥidatun fa-idhā hum yanẓurūn It will be only a single shout and, behold, they will look on,
20
وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَا هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ waqālū yāwaylanā hādhā yawmud dīn and say, ‘Woe to us! This is the Day of Retribution!’
21
هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ hādhā yawmul faṣlil ladhī kuntum bihi tukadhhibūn ‘This is the Day of Judgement that you used to deny!’
22
ٱحْشُرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ وَأَزْوَٰجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْبُدُونَ uḥ-shurul ladhīna ẓalamū wa-azwājahum wa mā kānū ya`budūn ‘Muster the wrongdoers and their mates and what they used to worship
23
مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ min dūnillāhi fahdūhum ilā ṣirāṭil jaḥīm besides Allah, and show them the way to hell!
24
وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسْـُٔولُونَ waqifūhum ۖ innahum mas-ūlūn [But first] stop them! For they must be questioned.’
25
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ mā lakum lā tanāṣarūn ‘Why is it that you do not support one another [today]?’
26
بَلْ هُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ bal humul yawma mustaslimūn ‘Indeed, they are [meek and] submissive today!’
27
وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ wa-aqbala ba`ḍuhum `alā ba`ḍiy yatasā-alūn Some of them will turn to others, questioning each other.
28
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ qālū innakum kuntum ta-tūnanā `anil yamīn They will say, ‘Indeed you used to accost us peremptorily.’
29
قَالُوا۟ بَل لَّمْ تَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ qālū bal lam takūnū mu-minīn They will answer, ‘No, you [yourselves] had no faith.
30
وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَـٰنٍۭ ۖ بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا طَـٰغِينَ wa mā kāna lanā `alaykum min sulṭān ۖ bal kuntum qawman ṭāghīn We had no authority over you. No, you [yourselves] were a rebellious lot.
31
فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَآ ۖ إِنَّا لَذَآئِقُونَ faḥaqqa `alaynā qawlu rabbinā ۖ innā ladhā-iqūn So our Lord’s word became due against us that we shall indeed taste [the punishment].
32
فَأَغْوَيْنَـٰكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَـٰوِينَ fa-aghwaynākum innā kunnā ghāwyn So we perverted you, for we were perverse [ourselves].’
33
فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ fa-innahum yawma-idhin fil `adhābi mushtarikūn So, that day they will share the punishment.
34
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ innā kadhālika naf`alu bil mujrimīn Indeed, that is how We deal with the guilty.
35
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوٓا۟ إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ innahum kānū idhā qīla lahum lā ilāha illallāhu yastakbirūn Indeed, it was they who, when they were told, ‘There is no god except Allah,’ used to be disdainful,
36
وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُوٓا۟ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُونٍۭ wayaqūlūna a-innā latārikū ālihatinā lishā`irin majnūn and [they would] say, ‘Shall we abandon our gods for a crazy poet?’
37
بَلْ جَآءَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ bal jā-a bil ḥaqqi waṣaddaqal mursalīn Indeed, he has brought [them] the truth, and confirmed the [earlier] apostles.
38
إِنَّكُمْ لَذَآئِقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْأَلِيمِ innakum ladhā-iqul `adhābil-alīm Indeed you will taste the painful punishment,
39
وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ wa mā tujzawna illā mā kuntum ta`malūn and you will be requited only for what you used to do
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَّعْلُومٌ ulā-ika lahum rizqun ma`lūm For such there is a known provision
42
فَوَٰكِهُ ۖ وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَ fawākih ۖ wahum mukramūn —fruits—and they will be held in honour,
43
فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ fī jannātin na`īm in the gardens of bliss,
44
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ `alā sururin mutaqābilīn [reclining] on couches, facing one another,
45
يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍۭ yuṭāfu `alayhim bika-sin min ma`īn served around with a cup, from a clear fountain,
46
بَيْضَآءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ bayḍā-a ladhhatin lishhāribīn snow-white, delicious to the drinkers,
47
لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَ lā fīhā ghawlun walā hum `anhā yunzafūn wherein there will be neither headache nor will it cause them stupefaction,
48
وَعِندَهُمْ قَـٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ عِينٌ wa`indahum qāṣirātuṭ ṭarfi `īn and with them will be maidens, of restrained glances with big [beautiful] eyes,
49
كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَّكْنُونٌ ka-annahunna bayḍun maknūn as if they were hidden ostrich eggs.
50
فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ fa-aqbala ba`ḍuhum `alā ba`ḍiy yatasā-alūn Some of them will turn to others, questioning each other.
51
قَالَ قَآئِلٌ مِّنْهُمْ إِنِّى كَانَ لِى قَرِينٌ qāla qā-ilun minhum innī kāna lī qarīn One of them will say, ‘Indeed I had a companion
52
يَقُولُ أَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُصَدِّقِينَ yaqūlu a-innaka laminal muṣaddiqīn who used to say, ‘‘Are you really among those who affirm
53
أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ a-idhā mitnā wakunnā turāban wa`iẓāman a-innā lamadīnūn that when we have died and become dust and bones, we shall be brought to retribution?’’ ’
54
قَالَ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ qāla hal antum muṭṭali`ūn He will say, ‘Will you have a look?’
55
فَٱطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِى سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ faṭṭala`a fara-āhu fī sawā-il jaḥīm Then he will take a look and sight him in the middle of hell.
56
قَالَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرْدِينِ qāla tallāhi in kidta laturdīn He will say, ‘By Allah, you had almost ruined me!
57
وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّى لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ walawlā ni`matu rabbī lakuntu minal muḥḍarīn Had it not been for my Lord’s blessing, I too would have been among those mustered [in hell]!’
58
أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ afamā naḥnu bimayyitīn ‘Is it [true] that we shall not die [anymore],
59
إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ illā mawtatanal-ūlā wa mā naḥnu bimu`adhhabīn aside from our earlier death, and that we shall not be punished?
60
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ inna hādhā lahuwal fawzul `aẓīm This is indeed the supreme triumph!’
61
لِمِثْلِ هَـٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ ٱلْعَـٰمِلُونَ limithli hādhā falya`malil `āmilūn Let all workers work for the like of this!
62
أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُّزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ adhālika khayrun nuzulan am shajaratuz zaqqūm Is this a better reception, or the Zaqqum tree?
63
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَـٰهَا فِتْنَةً لِّلظَّـٰلِمِينَ innā ja`alnāhā fitnatan liẓẓālimīn Indeed We have made it a punishment for the wrongdoers.
64
إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِىٓ أَصْلِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ innahā shajaratun takhruju fī aṣlil jaḥīm It is a tree that rises from the depths of hell.
65
طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ṭal`uhā ka-annahu ru-ūsush shayāṭīn Its spathes are as if they were devils’ heads.
66
فَإِنَّهُمْ لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ fa-innahum la-ākilūna minhā famāli-ūna minhal buṭūn They will eat from it and gorge with it their bellies.
67
ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًا مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ thumma inna lahum `alayhā lashawban min ḥamīm On top of that they will take a solution of scalding water.
68
ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى ٱلْجَحِيمِ thumma inna marji`ahum la-ilal-jaḥīm Then their retreat will be toward hell.
69
إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا۟ ءَابَآءَهُمْ ضَآلِّينَ innahum alfaw ābā-ahum ḍāllīn They had found their fathers astray,
70
فَهُمْ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ fahum `alā āthārihim yuhra`ūn yet they press onwards in their footsteps.
71
وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ walaqad ḍalla qablahum aktharul-awwalīn Most of the former peoples went astray before them,
72
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَ walaqad arsalnā fīhim mundhirīn and We had certainly sent warners among them.
73
فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ fanẓur kayfa kāna `āqibatul mundharīn So observe how was the fate of those who were warned
وَلَقَدْ نَادَىٰنَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ ٱلْمُجِيبُونَ walaqad nādānā nūḥun falani`mal mujībūn Certainly Noah called out to Us, and how well did We respond!
76
وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ wanajjaynāhu wa-ahlahu minal karbil `aẓīm We delivered him and his family from their great distress,
77
وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلْبَاقِينَ waja`alnā dhurriyyatahu humul bāqīn and made his descendants the survivors,
78
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ wataraknā `alayhi fil-ākhirīn and left for him a good name among posterity:
79
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍ فِى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ salāmun `alā nūḥin fil `ālamīn ‘Peace to Noah, throughout the nations!’
80
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ innā kadhālika najzil muḥsinīn Thus do We reward the virtuous.
81
إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ innahu min `ibādinal mu-minīn He is indeed one of Our faithful servants.
82
ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ thumma aghraqnal-ākharīn Then We drowned the rest.
83
وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ لَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ wa inna min shī`atihi la-ibrāhīm Indeed Abraham was among his followers,
84
إِذْ جَآءَ رَبَّهُۥ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ idh jā-a rabbahu biqalbin salīm when he came to his Lord with a sound heart [untainted by sin].
85
إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَ idh qāla li-abīhi waqawmihi mādhā ta`budūn When he said to his father and his people, ‘What is it that you are worshiping?
86
أَئِفْكًا ءَالِهَةً دُونَ ٱللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ a-ifkan ālihatan dūnallāhi turīdūn Is it a lie, gods other than Allah, that you desire?
87
فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ famā ẓannukum birabbil `ālamīn Then what is your idea about the Lord of all the worlds?’
88
فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِى ٱلنُّجُومِ fanaẓara naẓratan fin nujūm Then he made an observation of the stars
89
فَقَالَ إِنِّى سَقِيمٌ faqāla innī saqīm and said, ‘Indeed I am sick!’
90
فَتَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَ fatawallaw `anhu mudbirīn So they went away leaving him behind.
91
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ farāgha ilā ālihatihim faqāla alā ta-kulūn Then he stole away to their gods and said, ‘Will you not eat?
92
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنطِقُونَ mā lakum lā tanṭiqūn Why do you not speak?’
93
فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًۢا بِٱلْيَمِينِ farāgha `alayhim ḍarban bil yamīn Then he attacked them, striking forcefully.
94
فَأَقْبَلُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ fa-aqbalū ilayhi yaziffūn They came running towards him.
95
قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ qāla ata`budūna mā tanḥitūn He said, ‘Do you worship what you have yourselves carved,
96
وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ wallāhu khalaqakum wa mā ta`malūn when Allah has created you and whatever you make?’
97
قَالُوا۟ ٱبْنُوا۟ لَهُۥ بُنْيَـٰنًا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِى ٱلْجَحِيمِ qālub-nū lahu bunyānan fa-alqūhu fil jaḥīm They said, ‘Build a structure for him and cast him into a huge fire.’
98
فَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَ fa-arādū bihi kaydan faja`alnāhumul-asfalīn So they sought to outwit him, but We made them the lowermost.
99
وَقَالَ إِنِّى ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّى سَيَهْدِينِ waqāla innī dhāhibun ilā rabbī sayahdīn He said, ‘Indeed I am going toward my Lord, who will guide me.’
100
رَبِّ هَبْ لِى مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ rabbi hab lī minaṣ ṣāliḥīn ‘My Lord! Give me [an heir], one of the righteous.’
101
فَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ حَلِيمٍ fabashharnāhu bighulāmin ḥalīm So We gave him the good news of a forbearing son.
102
فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعْىَ قَالَ يَـٰبُنَىَّ إِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰ فِى ٱلْمَنَامِ أَنِّىٓ أَذْبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ ۚ قَالَ يَـٰٓأَبَتِ ٱفْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ ۖ سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ falammā balagha ma`ahus sa`ya qāla yābunayya innī arā fil manāmi annī adhbaḥuka fanẓur mādhā tarā ۚ qāla yā-abatif-`al mā tu-mar ۖ satajidunī in shā-allāhu minaṣ ṣābirīn When he was old enough to assist in his endeavour, he said, ‘My son! I see in dreams that I am sacrificing you. See what you think.’ He said, ‘Father! Do whatever you have been commanded. If Allah wishes, you will find me to be patient.’
103
فَلَمَّآ أَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلْجَبِينِ falammā aslamā watallahu liljabīn So when they had both surrendered [to Allah’s will], and he had laid him down on his forehead,
104
وَنَـٰدَيْنَـٰهُ أَن يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ wanādaynāhu an yā-ibrāhīm We called out to him, ‘O Abraham!
105
قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ ٱلرُّءْيَآ ۚ إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ qad ṣaddaqtar ru-yā ۚ innā kadhālika najzil muḥsinīn You have indeed fulfilled your vision! Thus indeed do We reward the virtuous!
106
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْبَلَـٰٓؤُا۟ ٱلْمُبِينُ inna hādhā lahuwal balā-ul mubīn This was indeed a manifest test.’
107
وَفَدَيْنَـٰهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيمٍ wafadaynāhu bidhibḥin `aẓīm Then We ransomed him with a great sacrifice,
108
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ wataraknā `alayhi fil-ākhirīn and left for him a good name in posterity:
109
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ salāmun `alā ibrāhīm ‘Peace be to Abraham!’
110
كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ kadhālika najzil muḥsinīn Thus do We reward the virtuous.
111
إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ innahu min `ibādinal mu-minīn He is indeed one of Our faithful servants.
112
وَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِإِسْحَـٰقَ نَبِيًّا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ wabashharnāhu bi-is-ḥāqa nabiyyan minaṣ ṣāliḥīn And We gave him the good news of [the birth of] Isaac, a prophet, one of the righteous.
113
وَبَـٰرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰٓ إِسْحَـٰقَ ۚ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌ وَظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهِۦ مُبِينٌ wabāraknā `alayhi wa`alā is-ḥāq ۚ wa min dhurriyyatihimā muḥsinun waẓālimul linafsihi mubīn And We blessed him and Isaac. Among their descendants [some] are virtuous, and [some] who manifestly wrong themselves.
114
وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ walaqad manannā `alā mūsā wahārūn Certainly We favoured Moses and Aaron,
115
وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ wanajjaynāhumā waqawmahumā minal karbil `aẓīm and delivered them and their people from their great distress,
116
وَنَصَرْنَـٰهُمْ فَكَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ wanaṣarnāhum fakānū humul ghālibīn and We helped them so that they became the victors.
117
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ٱلْمُسْتَبِينَ wa-ātaynāhumal kitābal mustabīn We gave them the illuminating scripture
118
وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ wahadaynāhumaṣ ṣirāṭal mustaqīm and guided them to the straight path,
119
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ wataraknā `alayhimā fil-ākhirīn and left for them a good name in posterity.
120
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ salāmun `alā mūsā wahārūn ‘Peace be to Moses and Aaron!’
121
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ innā kadhālika najzil muḥsinīn Thus indeed do We reward the virtuous.
122
إِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ innahumā min `ibādinal mu-minīn They are indeed among Our faithful servants.
123
وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ wa inna ilyāsa laminal mursalīn Indeed Ilyas was one of the apostles.
124
إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ idh qāla liqawmihi alā tattaqūn When he said to his people, ‘Will you not be Godwary?
125
أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ atad`ūna ba`lan watadharūna aḥsanal khāliqīn Do you invoke Baal and abandon the best of creators,
126
ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ allāha rabbakum warabba ābā-ikumul-awwalīn Allah, your Lord and Lord of your forefathers?,’
127
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ fakadhhabūhu fa-innahum lamuḥḍarūn they impugned him. So they will indeed be mustered [in hell]
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ wataraknā `alayhi fil-ākhirīn We left for him a good name in posterity.
130
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِلْ يَاسِينَ salāmun `alā il yāsīn ‘Peace be to Ilyas!’
131
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ innā kadhālika najzil muḥsinīn Thus indeed do We reward the virtuous.
132
إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ innahu min `ibādinal mu-minīn He is indeed one of Our faithful servants.
133
وَإِنَّ لُوطًا لَّمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ wa inna lūṭal laminal mursalīn Indeed Lot was one of the apostles.
134
إِذْ نَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ idh najjaynāhu wa-ahlahu ajma`īn When We delivered him and all his family,
135
إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِى ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ illā `ajūzan fil ghābirīn excepting an old woman among those who remained behind,
136
ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ thumma dammarnal-ākharīn We destroyed the rest.
137
وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِم مُّصْبِحِينَ wa innakum latamurrūna `alayhim muṣbiḥīn Indeed you pass by them at dawn
138
وَبِٱلَّيْلِ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ wabil layl ۗ afalā ta`qilūn and at night. Do you not exercise your reason?
139
وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ wa inna yūnusa laminal mursalīn Indeed Jonah was one of the apostles.
140
إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ idh abaqa ilal-fulkil mashḥūn When he absconded toward the laden ship,
141
فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُدْحَضِينَ fasāhama fakāna minal mud-ḥaḍīn he drew lots with them and was the one to be condemned [as one to be thrown overboard].
142
فَٱلْتَقَمَهُ ٱلْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ fal taqamahul ḥūtu wahuwa mulīm Then the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy.
143
فَلَوْلَآ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَبِّحِينَ falawlā annahu kāna minal musabbiḥīn Had he not been one of those who celebrate Allah’s glory,
144
لَلَبِثَ فِى بَطْنِهِۦٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ lalabitha fī baṭnihi ilā yawmi yub`athūn he would have surely remained in its belly till the day they will be resurrected.
145
فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌ fanabadhnāhu bil `arā-i wahuwa saqīm Then We cast him on a bare shore, and he was sick.
146
وَأَنۢبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّن يَقْطِينٍ wa-anbatnā `alayhi shajaratan min yaqṭīn So We made a gourd plant grow above him.
147
وَأَرْسَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِا۟ئَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ wa-arsalnāhu ilā mī-ati alfin aw yazīdūn We sent him to a [community of] hundred thousand or more,
148
فَـَٔامَنُوا۟ فَمَتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ fa-āmanū famatta`nāhum ilā ḥīn and they believed [in him]. So We provided for them for a while.
149
فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَ fastaftihim alirabbikal banātu walahumul banūn Ask them, are daughters to be for your Lord while sons are to be for them?
150
أَمْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ إِنَـٰثًا وَهُمْ شَـٰهِدُونَ am khalaqnal malā-ikata ināthan wahum shāhidūn Did We create the angels females while they were present?
151
أَلَآ إِنَّهُم مِّنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ alā innahum min ifkihim layaqūlūn Be aware that it is out of their mendacity that they say,
152
وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ waladallāhu wa innahum lakādhibūn ‘Allah has begotten [offsprings],’ and they indeed speak a falsehood.
153
أَصْطَفَى ٱلْبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلْبَنِينَ aṣṭafal banāti `alal-banīn Has He preferred daughters to sons?
154
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ mā lakum kayfa taḥkumūn What is the matter with you? How do you judge?
155
أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ afalā tadhakkarūn Will you not then take admonition?
156
أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَـٰنٌ مُّبِينٌ am lakum sulṭānun mubīn Do you have a manifest authority?
157
فَأْتُوا۟ بِكِتَـٰبِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ fa-tū bikitābikum in kuntum ṣādiqīn Then produce your scripture, should you be truthful.
158
وَجَعَلُوا۟ بَيْنَهُۥ وَبَيْنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ نَسَبًا ۚ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَتِ ٱلْجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ waja`alū baynahu wabaynal jinnati nasabā ۚ walaqad `alimatil jinnatu innahum lamuḥḍarūn And they have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn, while the jinn certainly know that they will be presented [before Him].
159
سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ subḥānallāhi `ammā yaṣifūn Clear is Allah of whatever they allege [about Him]
إِلَّا مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ illā man huwa ṣālil jaḥīm except someone who is bound for hell.
164
وَمَا مِنَّآ إِلَّا لَهُۥ مَقَامٌ مَّعْلُومٌ wa mā minnā illā lahu maqāmun ma`lūm ‘There is none among us but has a known place.
165
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلصَّآفُّونَ wa innā lanaḥnuṣ ṣāffūn It is we who are the ranged ones.
166
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلْمُسَبِّحُونَ wa innā lanaḥnul musabbiḥūn It is we who celebrate Allah’s glory.’
167
وَإِن كَانُوا۟ لَيَقُولُونَ wa in kānū layaqūlūn They indeed, used to say,
168
لَوْ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكْرًا مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ law anna `indanā dhikran minal-awwalīn ‘Had we possessed a Reminder from our predecessors,
169
لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ lakunnā `ibādallāhil mukhlaṣīn we would have surely been Allah’s exclusive servants.’
170
فَكَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ fakafarū bih ۖ fasawfa ya`lamūn But they disbelieved it [when it came to them]. Soon they will know!
171
وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ walaqad sabaqat kalimatunā li`ibādinal mursalīn Certainly Our decree has gone beforehand in favour of Our servants, the apostles,
172
إِنَّهُمْ لَهُمُ ٱلْمَنصُورُونَ innahum lahumul manṣūrūn that they will indeed receive [Allah’s] help,
173
وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ wa inna jundanā lahumul ghālibūn and indeed Our hosts will be the victors.
174
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ fatawalla `anhum ḥattā ḥīn So leave them alone for a while,
175
وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ wa-abṣirhum fasawfa yubṣirūn and watch them; soon they will see [the truth of the matter]!
176
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ afabi`adhābinā yasta`jilūn Do they seek to hasten Our punishment?
177
فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ فَسَآءَ صَبَاحُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ fa-idhā nazala bisāḥatihim fasā-a ṣabāḥul mundharīn But when it descends in their courtyard it will be a dismal dawn for those who had been warned.
178
وَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ watawalla `anhum ḥattā ḥīn So leave them alone for a while,
179
وَأَبْصِرْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ wa-abṣir fasawfa yubṣirūn and watch; soon they will see!
180
سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ subḥāna rabbika rabbil `izzati `ammā yaṣifūn Clear is your Lord, the Lord of Might, of whatever they allege [concerning Him].
181
وَسَلَـٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ wasalāmun `alal-mursalīn Peace be to the apostles!
182
وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ wal ḥamdu lillāhi rabbil `ālamīn All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all the worlds.
