بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
الٓمٓ alif lām mīm Alif, Lam, Meem.
2
تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْحَكِيمِ tilka āyātul kitābil ḥakīm These are the signs of the wise Book,
3
هُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لِّلْمُحْسِنِينَ hudan waraḥmatan lil-muḥsinīn a guidance and mercy for the virtuous,
4
ٱلَّذِينَ يُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤْتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَهُم بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ هُمْ يُوقِنُونَ alladhīna yuqīmūnaṣ ṣalāta wayu-tūnaz zakāta wahum bil-ākhirati hum yūqinūn who maintain the prayer, pay the zakat, and are certain of the Hereafter.
5
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ عَلَىٰ هُدًى مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ ulā-ika `alā hudan min rabbihim ۖ wa-ulā-ika humul mufliḥūn Those follow their Lord’s guidance, and it is they who are the felicitous.
6
وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَشْتَرِى لَهْوَ ٱلْحَدِيثِ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّخِذَهَا هُزُوًا ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ wa minan nāsi man yashtarī lahwal ḥadīthi liyuḍilla `an sabīlillāhi bighayri `il-min wayattakhidhahā huzuwā ۚ ulā-ika lahum `adhābun muhīn Among the people is he who buys diversionary talk that he may lead [people] astray from Allah’s way without any knowledge, and he takes it in derision. For such there is a humiliating punishment.
7
وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا وَلَّىٰ مُسْتَكْبِرًا كَأَن لَّمْ يَسْمَعْهَا كَأَنَّ فِىٓ أُذُنَيْهِ وَقْرًا ۖ فَبَشِّرْهُ بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ wa idhā tutlā `alayhi āyātunā wallā mustakbiran ka-an lam yasma`hā ka-anna fī udhunayhi waqrā ۖ fabashhirhu bi`adhābin alīm When Our signs are recited to him he turns away disdainfully, as if he had not heard them [at all], as if there were a deafness in his ears. So inform him of a painful punishment.
8
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتُ ٱلنَّعِيمِ innal ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti lahum jannātun na`īm As for those who have faith and do righteous deeds, for them will be gardens of bliss,
9
خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۖ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقًّا ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ khālidīna fīhā ۖ wa`dallāhi ḥaqqā ۚ wahuwal `azīzul ḥakīm to remain in them [forever]—a true promise of Allah, and He is the All-mighty, the All-wise.
10
خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ بِغَيْرِ عَمَدٍ تَرَوْنَهَا ۖ وَأَلْقَىٰ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ رَوَٰسِىَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِكُمْ وَبَثَّ فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ دَآبَّةٍ ۚ وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍ كَرِيمٍ khalaqas samāwāti bighayri `amadin tarawnahā ۖ wa-alqā fil-arḍi rawāsiya an tamīda bikum wabathha fīhā min kulli dābbah ۚ wa-anzalnā minas samā-i mā-an fa-anbatnā fīhā min kulli zawjin karīm He created the heavens without any pillars that you may see, and cast firm mountains in the earth lest it should shake with you, and He has scattered in it every kind of animal. And We sent down water from the sky and caused every splendid kind [of plant] to grow in it.
11
هَـٰذَا خَلْقُ ٱللَّهِ فَأَرُونِى مَاذَا خَلَقَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن دُونِهِۦ ۚ بَلِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ hādhā khalqullāhi fa-arūnī mādhā khalaqal ladhīna min dūnih ۚ baliẓ ẓālimūna fī ḍalālin mubīn This is the creation of Allah. Now show Me what others besides Him have created. Indeed, the wrongdoers are in manifest error!
12
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا لُقْمَـٰنَ ٱلْحِكْمَةَ أَنِ ٱشْكُرْ لِلَّهِ ۚ وَمَن يَشْكُرْ فَإِنَّمَا يَشْكُرُ لِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ وَمَن كَفَرَ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَنِىٌّ حَمِيدٌ walaqad ātaynā luqmānal ḥikmata anish-kur lillāh ۚ wa man yashkur fa-innamā yashkuru linafsih ۖ wa man kafara fa-innallāha ghaniyyun ḥamīd Certainly We gave Luqman wisdom, saying, ‘Give thanks to Allah; and whoever gives thanks, gives thanks only for his own sake. And whoever is ungrateful, [let him know that] Allah is indeed all-sufficient, all-laudable.’
13
وَإِذْ قَالَ لُقْمَـٰنُ لِٱبْنِهِۦ وَهُوَ يَعِظُهُۥ يَـٰبُنَىَّ لَا تُشْرِكْ بِٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلشِّرْكَ لَظُلْمٌ عَظِيمٌ wa idh qāla luqmānu lībnihi wahuwa ya`iẓuhu yābunayya lā tushrik billāh ۖ innash shirka laẓul-mun `aẓīm When Luqman said to his son, as he advised him: ‘O my son! Do not ascribe any partners to Allah. Polytheism is indeed a great injustice.’
14
وَوَصَّيْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ حَمَلَتْهُ أُمُّهُۥ وَهْنًا عَلَىٰ وَهْنٍ وَفِصَـٰلُهُۥ فِى عَامَيْنِ أَنِ ٱشْكُرْ لِى وَلِوَٰلِدَيْكَ إِلَىَّ ٱلْمَصِيرُ wawaṣṣaynal-insāna biwālidayhi ḥamalat-hu ummuhu wahnan `alā wahnin wafiṣāluhu fī `āmayni anish-kur lī waliwālidayka ilayyal maṣīr We have enjoined man concerning his parents: His mother carried him through weakness upon weakness, and his weaning takes two years. Give thanks to Me and to your parents. To Me is the return.
15
وَإِن جَـٰهَدَاكَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن تُشْرِكَ بِى مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ فَلَا تُطِعْهُمَا ۖ وَصَاحِبْهُمَا فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا مَعْرُوفًا ۖ وَٱتَّبِعْ سَبِيلَ مَنْ أَنَابَ إِلَىَّ ۚ ثُمَّ إِلَىَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَأُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ wa in jāhadāka `alā an tushrika bī mā laysa laka bihi `il-mun falā tuṭi`humā ۖ waṣāḥibhumā fid dunyā ma`rūfā ۖ wattabi` sabīla man anāba ilayy ۚ thumma ilayya marji`ukum fa-unabbi-ukum bimā kuntum ta`malūn But if they urge you to ascribe to Me as partner that of which you have no knowledge, then do not obey them. Keep their company honourably in this world and follow the way of those who turn to Me penitently. Then to Me will be your return, whereat I will inform you concerning what you used to do.
16
Even if it should be the weight of a mustard seed, and [even though] it should be in a rock, or in the heavens, or in the earth, Allah will produce it. Indeed Allah is all-attentive, all-aware.
17
يَـٰبُنَىَّ أَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَأْمُرْ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَٱنْهَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ وَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَصَابَكَ ۖ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ عَزْمِ ٱلْأُمُورِ yābunayya aqimiṣ ṣalāta wa-mur bil ma`rūfi wanha `anil munkari waṣbir `alā mā aṣābak ۖ inna dhālika min `azmil-umūr O my son! Maintain the prayer and bid what is right and forbid what is wrong, and be patient through whatever may befall you. That is indeed the steadiest of courses.
18
وَلَا تُصَعِّرْ خَدَّكَ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَمْشِ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ مُخْتَالٍ فَخُورٍ walā tuṣa``ir khaddaka linnāsi walā tamshi fil-arḍi maraḥā ۖ innallāha lā yuḥibbu kulla mukhtālin fakhūr Do not turn your cheek away disdainfully from the people, and do not walk exultantly on the earth. Indeed Allah does not like any swaggering braggart.
19
وَٱقْصِدْ فِى مَشْيِكَ وَٱغْضُضْ مِن صَوْتِكَ ۚ إِنَّ أَنكَرَ ٱلْأَصْوَٰتِ لَصَوْتُ ٱلْحَمِيرِ waqṣid fī mashyika waghḍuḍ min ṣawtik ۚ inna ankaral-aṣwāti laṣawtul ḥamīr Be modest in your bearing, and lower your voice. Indeed the ungainliest of voices is the donkey’s voice.’
20
أَلَمْ تَرَوْا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَخَّرَ لَكُم مَّا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَأَسْبَغَ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعَمَهُۥ ظَـٰهِرَةً وَبَاطِنَةً ۗ وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يُجَـٰدِلُ فِى ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَلَا هُدًى وَلَا كِتَـٰبٍ مُّنِيرٍ alam taraw annallāha sakhhara lakum mā fis samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍi wa-asbagha `alaykum ni`amahu ẓāhiratan wabāṭinah ۗ wa minan nāsi man yujādilu fillāhi bighayri `il-min walā hudan walā kitābin munīr Do you not see that Allah has disposed for you whatever there is in the heavens and whatever there is in the earth and He has showered upon you His blessings, the outward, and the inward? Yet among the people are those who dispute concerning Allah without any knowledge or guidance or an illuminating scripture.
21
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ قَالُوا۟ بَلْ نَتَّبِعُ مَا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ ءَابَآءَنَآ ۚ أَوَلَوْ كَانَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ عَذَابِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ wa idhā qīla lahumut-tabi`ū mā anzalallāhu qālū bal nattabi`u mā wajadnā `alayhi ābā-anā ۚ awalaw kānash shayṭānu yad`ūhum ilā `adhābis sa`īr When they are told, ‘Follow what Allah has sent down,’ they say, ‘No, we will follow what we found our fathers following.’ What! Even if Satan be calling them to the punishment of the Blaze?
22
وَمَن يُسْلِمْ وَجْهَهُۥٓ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَهُوَ مُحْسِنٌ فَقَدِ ٱسْتَمْسَكَ بِٱلْعُرْوَةِ ٱلْوُثْقَىٰ ۗ وَإِلَى ٱللَّهِ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْأُمُورِ wa man yuslim wajhahu ilallāhi wahuwa muḥsinun faqadis-tamsaka bil `urwatil wuthqā ۗ wa ilallāhi `āqibatul-umūr Whoever surrenders his heart to Allah and is virtuous, has certainly held fast to the firmest handle, and with Allah lies the outcome of all matters.
23
وَمَن كَفَرَ فَلَا يَحْزُنكَ كُفْرُهُۥٓ ۚ إِلَيْنَا مَرْجِعُهُمْ فَنُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا عَمِلُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ wa man kafara falā yaḥzunka kufruh ۚ ilaynā marji`uhum fanunabbi-uhum bimā `amilū ۚ innallāha `alīmun bidhātiṣ ṣudūr As for those who are faithless, let their faithlessness not grieve you. To Us will be their return, and We will inform them about what they have done. Indeed Allah knows best what is in the breasts.
24
نُمَتِّعُهُمْ قَلِيلًا ثُمَّ نَضْطَرُّهُمْ إِلَىٰ عَذَابٍ غَلِيظٍ numatti`uhum qalīlan thumma naḍṭarruhum ilā `adhābin ghalīẓ We will provide for them for a short time, then We will shove them toward a harsh punishment.
25
وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُ ۚ قُلِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ۚ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ wala-in sa-altahum man khalaqas samāwāti wal-arḍa layaqūlunnallāh ۚ qulil ḥamdu lillāh ۚ bal aktharuhum lā ya`lamūn If you ask them, ‘Who created the heavens and the earth?’ they will surely say, ‘Allah.’ Say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah!’ But most of them do not know.
26
لِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْغَنِىُّ ٱلْحَمِيدُ lillāhi mā fis samāwāti wal-arḍ ۚ innallāha huwal ghaniyyul ḥamīd To Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth. Indeed Allah is the All-sufficient, the All-laudable.
27
وَلَوْ أَنَّمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِن شَجَرَةٍ أَقْلَـٰمٌ وَٱلْبَحْرُ يَمُدُّهُۥ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ سَبْعَةُ أَبْحُرٍ مَّا نَفِدَتْ كَلِمَـٰتُ ٱللَّهِ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ walaw annamā fil-arḍi min shajaratin aqlāmun wal baḥru yamudduhu min ba`dihi sab`atu abḥurin mā nafidat kalimātullāh ۗ innallāha `azīzun ḥakīm If all the trees on the earth were pens, and the sea replenished with seven more seas [were ink], the words of Allah would not be spent. Indeed Allah is all-mighty, all-wise.
28
مَّا خَلْقُكُمْ وَلَا بَعْثُكُمْ إِلَّا كَنَفْسٍ وَٰحِدَةٍ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ سَمِيعٌۢ بَصِيرٌ mā khalqukum walā ba`thukum illā kanafsin wāḥidah ۗ innallāha samī`un baṣīr Your creation and your resurrection are not but as of a single soul. Indeed Allah is all-hearing, all-seeing.
29
أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُولِجُ ٱلَّيْلَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ وَيُولِجُ ٱلنَّهَارَ فِى ٱلَّيْلِ وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ كُلٌّ يَجْرِىٓ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ alam tara annallāha yūlijul layla fin nahāri wayūlijun nahāra fil layli wasakhharash shamsa wal qamara kullun yajrī ilā ajalin musamman wa-annallāha bimā ta`malūna khabīr Have you not regarded that Allah makes the night pass into the day and makes the day pass into the night; and He has disposed the sun and the moon, each moving for a specified term, and that Allah is well aware of what you do?
30
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَأَنَّ مَا يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِ ٱلْبَـٰطِلُ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْكَبِيرُ dhālika bi-annallāha huwal ḥaqqu wa-anna mā yad`ūna min dūnihil bāṭilu wa-annallāha huwal `aliyyul kabīr That is because Allah is the Reality, and whatever they invoke besides Him is nullity, and because Allah is the All-exalted, the All-great.
31
أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱلْفُلْكَ تَجْرِى فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ بِنِعْمَتِ ٱللَّهِ لِيُرِيَكُم مِّنْ ءَايَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّكُلِّ صَبَّارٍ شَكُورٍ alam tara annal fulka tajrī fil baḥri bini`matillāhi liyuriyakum min āyātih ۚ inna fī dhālika la-āyātin likulli ṣabbārin shakūr Have you not regarded that the ships sail at sea with Allah’s blessing, that He may show you some of His signs? There are indeed signs in that for every patient and grateful [servant].
32
وَإِذَا غَشِيَهُم مَّوْجٌ كَٱلظُّلَلِ دَعَوُا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّىٰهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْبَرِّ فَمِنْهُم مُّقْتَصِدٌ ۚ وَمَا يَجْحَدُ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ إِلَّا كُلُّ خَتَّارٍ كَفُورٍ wa idhā ghashiyahum mawjun kaẓ ẓulali da`awullāha mukhliṣīna lahud dīna falammā najjāhum ilal-barri faminhum muqtaṣid ۚ wa mā yajḥadu bi-āyātinā illā kullu khattārin kafūr When waves cover them like awnings; they invoke Allah, putting exclusive faith in Him. But when He delivers them towards land, [only] some of them remain unswerving. No one will impugn Our signs except an ungrateful traitor.
33
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ وَٱخْشَوْا۟ يَوْمًا لَّا يَجْزِى وَالِدٌ عَن وَلَدِهِۦ وَلَا مَوْلُودٌ هُوَ جَازٍ عَن وَالِدِهِۦ شَيْـًٔا ۚ إِنَّ وَعْدَ ٱللَّهِ حَقٌّ ۖ فَلَا تَغُرَّنَّكُمُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَلَا يَغُرَّنَّكُم بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْغَرُورُ yā-ayyuhan nāsut-taqū rabbakum wakhshaw yawmal lā yajzī wālidun `an waladihi walā mawlūdun huwa jāzin `an wālidihi shay-ā ۚ inna wa`dallāhi ḥaqq ۖ falā taghurrannakumul ḥayātud dunyā walā yaghurrannakum billāhil gharūr O mankind! Be wary of your Lord and fear the day when a father will not atone for his child, nor the child will atone for its father in any wise. Indeed Allah’s promise is true. So do not let the life of the world deceive you, nor let the Deceiver deceive you concerning Allah.
34
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عِندَهُۥ عِلْمُ ٱلسَّاعَةِ وَيُنَزِّلُ ٱلْغَيْثَ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِى ٱلْأَرْحَامِ ۖ وَمَا تَدْرِى نَفْسٌ مَّاذَا تَكْسِبُ غَدًا ۖ وَمَا تَدْرِى نَفْسٌۢ بِأَىِّ أَرْضٍ تَمُوتُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌۢ innallāha `indahu `il-mus sā`ati wayunazzilul ghaytha waya`lamu mā fil-arḥām ۖ wa mā tadrī nafsun mādhā taksibu ghadā ۖ wa mā tadrī nafsun bi-ayyi arḍin tamūt ۚ innallāha `alīmun khabīr Indeed the knowledge of the Hour is with Allah. He sends down the rain, and He knows what is in the wombs. No soul knows what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in what land it will die. Indeed Allah is all-knowing, all-aware.
