بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
الٓمٓ alif lām mīm Alif, Lam, Meem.
2
أَحَسِبَ ٱلنَّاسُ أَن يُتْرَكُوٓا۟ أَن يَقُولُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا وَهُمْ لَا يُفْتَنُونَ aḥasiban nāsu an yutrakū an yaqūlū āmannā wahum lā yuftanūn Do the people suppose that they will be let off because they say, ‘We have faith,’ and they will not be tested?
3
وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۖ فَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ صَدَقُوا۟ وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ walaqad fatannal ladhīna min qablihim ۖ falaya`lamannallāhul ladhīna ṣadaqū walaya`lamannal kādhibīn Certainly We tested those who were before them. So Allah shall surely ascertain those who are truthful, and He shall surely ascertain the liars.
4
أَمْ حَسِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ أَن يَسْبِقُونَا ۚ سَآءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ am ḥasibal ladhīna ya`malūnas sayyi-āti an yasbiqūnā ۚ sā-a mā yaḥkumūn Do those who commit misdeeds suppose that they can outmaneuver Us? Evil is the judgement that they make.
5
مَن كَانَ يَرْجُوا۟ لِقَآءَ ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّ أَجَلَ ٱللَّهِ لَـَٔاتٍ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ man kāna yarjū liqā-allāhi fa-inna ajalallāhi la-āt ۚ wahuwas samī`ul `alīm Whoever expects to encounter Allah [should know that] Allah’s [appointed] time will indeed come, and He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.
6
وَمَن جَـٰهَدَ فَإِنَّمَا يُجَـٰهِدُ لِنَفْسِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَغَنِىٌّ عَنِ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ wa man jāhada fa-innamā yujāhidu linafsih ۚ innallāha laghaniyyun `anil `ālamīn Whoever strives, strives only for his own sake. Indeed Allah has no need of the creatures.
7
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَنُكَفِّرَنَّ عَنْهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَحْسَنَ ٱلَّذِى كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ wal ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti lanukaffiranna `anhum sayyi-ātihim walanajziyannahum aḥsanal ladhī kānū ya`malūn As for those who have faith and do righteous deeds, We will absolve them of their misdeeds and We will surely reward them by the best of what they used to do.
8
وَوَصَّيْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ بِوَٰلِدَيْهِ حُسْنًا ۖ وَإِن جَـٰهَدَاكَ لِتُشْرِكَ بِى مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ فَلَا تُطِعْهُمَآ ۚ إِلَىَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَأُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ wawaṣṣaynal-insāna biwālidayhi ḥusnā ۖ wa in jāhadāka litushrika bī mā laysa laka bihi `il-mun falā tuṭi`humā ۚ ilayya marji`ukum fa-unabbi-ukum bimā kuntum ta`malūn We have enjoined man to be good to his parents. But if they urge you to ascribe to Me as partner that of which you have no knowledge, then do not obey them. To Me will be your return, whereat I will inform you concerning what you used to do.
9
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَنُدْخِلَنَّهُمْ فِى ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ wal ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti lanudkhilannahum fiṣ ṣāliḥīn Those who have faith and do righteous deeds, We will surely admit them among the righteous.
10
وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ فَإِذَآ أُوذِىَ فِى ٱللَّهِ جَعَلَ فِتْنَةَ ٱلنَّاسِ كَعَذَابِ ٱللَّهِ وَلَئِن جَآءَ نَصْرٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ إِنَّا كُنَّا مَعَكُمْ ۚ أَوَلَيْسَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَعْلَمَ بِمَا فِى صُدُورِ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ wa minan nāsi man yaqūlu āmannā billāhi fa-idhā ūdhiya fillāhi ja`ala fitnatan nāsi ka`adhābillāhi wala-in jā-a naṣrun min rabbika layaqūlunna innā kunnā ma`akum ۚ awalaysallāhu bi-a`lama bimā fī ṣudūril `ālamīn Among the people there are those who say, ‘We have faith in Allah,’ but if such a one is tormented in Allah’s cause, he takes persecution by the people for Allah’s punishment. Yet if there comes any help from your Lord, they will say, ‘We were indeed with you.’ Does not Allah know best what is in the breasts of the creatures?
11
وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَلَيَعْلَمَنَّ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ walaya`lamannallāhul ladhīna āmanū walaya`lamannal munāfiqīn Allah shall surely ascertain those who have faith, and He shall surely ascertain the hypocrites.
12
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ سَبِيلَنَا وَلْنَحْمِلْ خَطَـٰيَـٰكُمْ وَمَا هُم بِحَـٰمِلِينَ مِنْ خَطَـٰيَـٰهُم مِّن شَىْءٍ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ waqālal ladhīna kafarū lilladhīna āmanut-tabi`ū sabīlanā walnaḥmil khaṭāyākum wa mā hum biḥāmilīna min khaṭāyāhum min shay-ī ۖ innahum lakādhibūn The faithless say to the faithful, ‘Follow our way and we will bear [responsibility for] your iniquities.’ They will not bear anything of their iniquities. They are indeed liars.
13
وَلَيَحْمِلُنَّ أَثْقَالَهُمْ وَأَثْقَالًا مَّعَ أَثْقَالِهِمْ ۖ وَلَيُسْـَٔلُنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ walayaḥmilunna athqālahum wa-athqālan ma`a athqālihim ۖ walayus-alunna yawmal qiyāmati `ammā kānū yaftarūn But they will carry their own burdens and other burdens along with their own burdens, and they will surely be questioned on the Day of Resurrection concerning that which they used to fabricate.
14
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ فَلَبِثَ فِيهِمْ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ إِلَّا خَمْسِينَ عَامًا فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱلطُّوفَانُ وَهُمْ ظَـٰلِمُونَ walaqad arsalnā nūḥan ilā qawmihi falabitha fīhim alfa sanatin illā khamsīna `āman fa-akhadhahumuṭ ṭūfānu wahum ẓālimūn Certainly We sent Noah to his people, and he remained with them for a thousand-less-fifty years. Then the flood overtook them while they were wrongdoers.
15
فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ وَأَصْحَـٰبَ ٱلسَّفِينَةِ وَجَعَلْنَـٰهَآ ءَايَةً لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ fa-anjaynāhu wa-aṣ-ḥābas safīnati waja`alnāhā āyatan lil`ālamīn Then We delivered him and those who were in the Ark, and made it a sign for all the nations.
16
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱتَّقُوهُ ۖ ذَٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ wa ibrāhīma idh qāla liqawmihi'-budullāha wattaqūh ۖ dhālikum khayrul lakum in kuntum ta`lamūn And Abraham, when he said to his people, ‘Worship Allah and be wary of Him. That is better for you, should you know.
17
إِنَّمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْثَـٰنًا وَتَخْلُقُونَ إِفْكًا ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ لَكُمْ رِزْقًا فَٱبْتَغُوا۟ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرِّزْقَ وَٱعْبُدُوهُ وَٱشْكُرُوا۟ لَهُۥٓ ۖ إِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ innamā ta`budūna min dūnillāhi awthānan watakhluqūna ifkā ۚ innal ladhīna ta`budūna min dūnillāhi lā yamlikūna lakum rizqan fabtaghū `indallāhir rizqa wa`budūhu washkurū lah ۖ ilayhi turja`ūn What you worship instead of Allah are mere idols, and you invent a lie. Indeed those whom you worship besides Allah have no control over your provision. So seek all [your] provision from Allah, and worship Him and thank Him, and to Him you shall be brought back.’
18
وَإِن تُكَذِّبُوا۟ فَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أُمَمٌ مِّن قَبْلِكُمْ ۖ وَمَا عَلَى ٱلرَّسُولِ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ wa in tukadhhibū faqad kadhhaba umamun min qablikum ۖ wa mā `alar rasūli illal-balāghul mubīn If you impugn [the Apostle’s teaching], then [other] nations have impugned [likewise] before you, and the Apostle’s duty is only to communicate in clear terms.
19
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ كَيْفَ يُبْدِئُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْخَلْقَ ثُمَّ يُعِيدُهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرٌ awalam yaraw kayfa yubdi-ullāhul khalqa thumma yu`īduh ۚ inna dhālika `alallāhi yasīr Have they not regarded how Allah originates the creation? Then He will bring it back. That is indeed easy for Allah.
20
قُلْ سِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ بَدَأَ ٱلْخَلْقَ ۚ ثُمَّ ٱللَّهُ يُنشِئُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ qul sīrū fil-arḍi fanẓurū kayfa bada-al khalq ۚ thummallāhu yunshi-un nash-atal-ākhirah ۚ innallāha `alā kulli shay-in qadīr Say, ‘Travel over the land and observe how He has originated the creation.’ Then Allah will bring about the genesis of the Hereafter. Indeed Allah has power over all things.
21
يُعَذِّبُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَرْحَمُ مَن يَشَآءُ ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ تُقْلَبُونَ yu`adhhibu man yashā-u wayarḥamu man yashā-u ۖ wa ilayhi tuqlabūn He will punish whomever He wishes and have mercy on whomever He wishes, and to Him you will be returned.
22
وَمَآ أَنتُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ ۖ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن وَلِىٍّ وَلَا نَصِيرٍ wa mā antum bimu`jizīna fil-arḍi walā fis samā-i ۖ wa mā lakum min dūnillāhi min waliyyin walā naṣīr You cannot frustrate Him on the earth or in the sky, nor do you have besides Allah any guardian or helper.
23
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِقَآئِهِۦٓ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَئِسُوا۟ مِن رَّحْمَتِى وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ wal ladhīna kafarū bi-āyātillāhi waliqā-ihi ulā-ika ya-isū min raḥmatī wa-ulā-ika lahum `adhābun alīm Those who deny the signs of Allah and the encounter with Him—they have despaired of My mercy, and for such there is a painful punishment.
24
فَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِۦٓ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُوا۟ ٱقْتُلُوهُ أَوْ حَرِّقُوهُ فَأَنجَىٰهُ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلنَّارِ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ famā kāna jawāba qawmihi illā an qāluq-tulūhu aw ḥarriqūhu fa-anjāhullāhu minan nār ۚ inna fī dhālika la-āyātin liqawmiy yu-minūn But the only answer of his people was that they said, ‘Kill him, or burn him.’ Then Allah delivered him from the fire. There are indeed signs in that for a people who have faith.
25
وَقَالَ إِنَّمَا ٱتَّخَذْتُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْثَـٰنًا مَّوَدَّةَ بَيْنِكُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ ثُمَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ يَكْفُرُ بَعْضُكُم بِبَعْضٍ وَيَلْعَنُ بَعْضُكُم بَعْضًا وَمَأْوَىٰكُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِينَ waqāla innamat-takhadhtum min dūnillāhi awthānan mawaddata baynikum fil ḥayātid dunyā ۖ thumma yawmal qiyāmati yakfuru ba`ḍukum biba`ḍin wayal`anu ba`ḍukum ba`ḍan wa ma-wākumun nāru wa mā lakum min nāṣirīn He said, ‘You have taken idols [for worship] besides Allah for the sake of [mutual] affection amongst yourselves in the life of the world. Then on the Day of Resurrection you will disown one another and curse one another, and the Fire will be your abode, and you will not have any helpers.’
26
فَـَٔامَنَ لَهُۥ لُوطٌ ۘ وَقَالَ إِنِّى مُهَاجِرٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّىٓ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ fa-āmana lahu lūṭ ۘ waqāla innī muhājirun ilā rabbī ۖ innahu huwal `azīzul ḥakīm Thereupon Lot believed in him, and he said, ‘Indeed I am migrating toward my Lord. Indeed He is the All-mighty, the All-wise.’
27
وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُۥٓ إِسْحَـٰقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَجَعَلْنَا فِى ذُرِّيَّتِهِ ٱلنُّبُوَّةَ وَٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ أَجْرَهُۥ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا ۖ وَإِنَّهُۥ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَمِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ wawahabnā lahu is-ḥāqa waya`qūba waja`alnā fī dhurriyyatihin nubuwwata wal kitāba wa-ātaynāhu ajrahu fid dunyā ۖ wa innahu fil-ākhirati laminaṣ ṣāliḥīn And We gave him Isaac and Jacob, and We ordained among his descendants prophethood and the Book, and We gave him his reward in this world, and in the Hereafter he will indeed be among the Righteous.
28
وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ إِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِّنَ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ walūṭan idh qāla liqawmihi innakum lata-tūnal fāḥishata mā sabaqakum bihā min aḥadin minal `ālamīn And Lot, when he said to his people, ‘You indeed commit an indecency none in the world has ever committed before you!
29
أَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَأْتُونَ ٱلرِّجَالَ وَتَقْطَعُونَ ٱلسَّبِيلَ وَتَأْتُونَ فِى نَادِيكُمُ ٱلْمُنكَرَ ۖ فَمَا كَانَ جَوَابَ قَوْمِهِۦٓ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُوا۟ ٱئْتِنَا بِعَذَابِ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ a-innakum lata-tūnar rijāla wataqṭa`ūnas sabīla wata-tūna fī nādīkumul munkar ۖ famā kāna jawāba qawmihi illā an qālu-tinā bi`adhābillāhi in kunta minaṣ ṣādiqīn What! Do you come to men, and cut off the way, and commit outrages in your gatherings?’ But the only answer of his people was that they said, ‘Bring down us Allah’s punishment, if you are truthful.’
30
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرْنِى عَلَى ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ qāla rabbin-ṣurnī `alal-qawmil mufsidīn He said, ‘My Lord! Help me against this corruptive lot.’
31
وَلَمَّا جَآءَتْ رُسُلُنَآ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ بِٱلْبُشْرَىٰ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا مُهْلِكُوٓا۟ أَهْلِ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ ۖ إِنَّ أَهْلَهَا كَانُوا۟ ظَـٰلِمِينَ walammā jā-at rusulunā ibrāhīma bil bushrā qālū innā muhlikū ahli hādhihil qaryah ۖ inna ahlahā kānū ẓālimīn And when Our messengers came to Abraham with the good news, they said, ‘We are indeed going to destroy the people of this town. Its people are indeed wrongdoers.’
32
قَالَ إِنَّ فِيهَا لُوطًا ۚ قَالُوا۟ نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن فِيهَا ۖ لَنُنَجِّيَنَّهُۥ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ كَانَتْ مِنَ ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ qāla inna fīhā lūṭā ۚ qālū naḥnu a`lamu biman fīhā ۖ lanunajjiyannahu wa-ahlahu illam-ra-atahu kānat minal ghābirīn He said, ‘Lot is in it.’ They said, ‘We know better those who are in it. We will surely deliver him and his family, except his wife: she shall be one of those who remain behind.’
33
وَلَمَّآ أَن جَآءَتْ رُسُلُنَا لُوطًا سِىٓءَ بِهِمْ وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ ذَرْعًا وَقَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ ۖ إِنَّا مُنَجُّوكَ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَكَ كَانَتْ مِنَ ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ walammā an jā-at rusulunā lūṭan sī-a bihim waḍāqa bihim dhar`an waqālū lā takhaf walā taḥzan ۖ innā munajjūka wa-ahlaka illam-ra-ataka kānat minal ghābirīn And when Our messengers came to Lot, he was distressed on their account and in a predicament for their sake. But they said, ‘Do not be afraid, nor grieve! We shall deliver you and your family, except your wife: she will be one of those who remain behind.
34
إِنَّا مُنزِلُونَ عَلَىٰٓ أَهْلِ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْقَرْيَةِ رِجْزًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْسُقُونَ innā munzilūna `alā ahli hādhihil qaryati rijzan minas samā-i bimā kānū yafsuqūn We are indeed going to bring down upon the people of this town a punishment from the sky because of the transgressions they used to commit.’
35
وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَا مِنْهَآ ءَايَةًۢ بَيِّنَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ walaqad taraknā minhā āyatan bayyinatan liqawmiy ya`qilūn Certainly We have left of it a manifest sign for people who exercise their reason.
36
وَإِلَىٰ مَدْيَنَ أَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًا فَقَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱرْجُوا۟ ٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ wa ilā madyana akhāhum shu`ayban faqāla yāqawmi'-budullāha warjul yawmal-ākhira walā ta`thaw fil-arḍi mufsidīn And to Midian We sent Shu‘ayb, their brother. He said, ‘O my people! Worship Allah, and expect [to encounter] the Last Day, and do not act wickedly on the earth causing corruption.’
37
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلرَّجْفَةُ فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ فِى دَارِهِمْ جَـٰثِمِينَ fakadhhabūhu fa-akhadhat-humur rajfatu fa-aṣbaḥū fī dārihim jāthimīn But they impugned him, whereupon the earthquake seized them, and they lay lifeless prostrate in their homes.
38
وَعَادًا وَثَمُودَا۟ وَقَد تَّبَيَّنَ لَكُم مِّن مَّسَـٰكِنِهِمْ ۖ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ فَصَدَّهُمْ عَنِ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَكَانُوا۟ مُسْتَبْصِرِينَ wa`ādan wathamūda waqad tabayyana lakum min masākinihim ۖ wazayyana lahumush shayṭānu a`mālahum faṣaddahum `anis sabīli wakānū mustabṣirīn And ‘Ad and Thamud, [whose fate] is evident to you from their habitations. Satan made their deeds seem decorous to them, thus he barred them from the way [of Allah], though they used to be perceptive.
39
وَقَـٰرُونَ وَفِرْعَوْنَ وَهَـٰمَـٰنَ ۖ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مُّوسَىٰ بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ سَـٰبِقِينَ waqārūna wafir`awna wahāmān ۖ walaqad jā-ahum mūsā bil bayyināti fastakbarū fil-arḍi wa mā kānū sābiqīn And Korah, Pharaoh, and Haman. Certainly, Moses brought them manifest proofs, but they acted arrogantly in the land; though they could not outmaneuver [Allah].
40
فَكُلًّا أَخَذْنَا بِذَنۢبِهِۦ ۖ فَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ حَاصِبًا وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَخَذَتْهُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ خَسَفْنَا بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ أَغْرَقْنَا ۚ وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ fakullan akhadhnā bidhanbih ۖ faminhum man arsalnā `alayhi ḥāṣiban wa minhum man akhadhat-huṣ ṣayḥatu wa minhum man khasafnā bihil-arḍa wa minhum man aghraqnā ۚ wa mā kānallāhu liyaẓlimahum walākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn So We seized each [of them] for his sin: among them were those upon whom We unleashed a rain of stones, and among them were those who were seized by the Cry, and among them were those whom We caused the earth to swallow, and among them were those whom We drowned. It was not Allah who wronged them, but it was they who used to wrong themselves.
41
مَثَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ أَوْلِيَآءَ كَمَثَلِ ٱلْعَنكَبُوتِ ٱتَّخَذَتْ بَيْتًا ۖ وَإِنَّ أَوْهَنَ ٱلْبُيُوتِ لَبَيْتُ ٱلْعَنكَبُوتِ ۖ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ mathalul ladhīnat-takhadhū min dūnillāhi awliyā-a kamathalil `ankabūtit-takhadhat baytā ۖ wa inna awhanal buyūti labaytul `ankabūt ۖ law kānū ya`lamūn The parable of those who take guardians instead of Allah is that of the spider that takes a home, and indeed the frailest of homes is the home of a spider, had they known!
42
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ مِن شَىْءٍ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ innallāha ya`lamu mā yad`ūna min dūnihi min shay-ī ۚ wahuwal `azīzul ḥakīm Allah indeed knows whatever thing they invoke besides Him, and He is the All-mighty, the All-wise.
43
وَتِلْكَ ٱلْأَمْثَـٰلُ نَضْرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ ۖ وَمَا يَعْقِلُهَآ إِلَّا ٱلْعَـٰلِمُونَ watilkal-amthālu naḍribuhā linnās ۖ wa mā ya`qiluhā illal-`ālimūn We draw these parables for mankind; but no one grasps them except those who have knowledge.
44
خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ khalaqallāhus samāwāti wal-arḍa bil ḥaqq ۚ inna fī dhālika la-āyatan lil-mu-minīn Allah created the heavens and the earth with consummate wisdom. There is indeed a sign in that for the faithful.
45
ٱتْلُ مَآ أُوحِىَ إِلَيْكَ مِنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ تَنْهَىٰ عَنِ ٱلْفَحْشَآءِ وَٱلْمُنكَرِ ۗ وَلَذِكْرُ ٱللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَصْنَعُونَ ut-lu mā ūḥiya ilayka minal kitābi wa-aqimiṣ ṣalāh ۖ innaṣ ṣalāta tanhā `anil faḥshā-i wal munkar ۗ waladhikrullāhi akbar ۗ wallāhu ya`lamu mā taṣna`ūn Recite what has been revealed to you of the Book, and maintain the prayer. Indeed the prayer restrains from indecent and wrongful conduct, and the remembrance of Allah is surely greater. And Allah knows whatever [deeds] you do.
46
وَلَا تُجَـٰدِلُوٓا۟ أَهْلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ إِلَّا بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَقُولُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِٱلَّذِىٓ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْنَا وَأُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ وَإِلَـٰهُنَا وَإِلَـٰهُكُمْ وَٰحِدٌ وَنَحْنُ لَهُۥ مُسْلِمُونَ walā tujādilū ahlal-kitābi illā bil latī hiya aḥsanu illal ladhīna ẓalamū minhum ۖ waqūlū āmannā bil ladhī unzila ilaynā wa-unzila ilaykum wa ilāhunā wa ilāhukum wāḥidun wanaḥnu lahu muslimūn Do not argue with the People of the Book except in a manner which is best, except such of them as are wrongdoers, and say, ‘We believe in what has been sent down to us and in what has been sent down to you; our God and your God is one [and the same], and to Him do we submit.’
47
وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۚ فَٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۖ وَمِنْ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَن يُؤْمِنُ بِهِۦ ۚ وَمَا يَجْحَدُ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ wakadhālika anzalnā ilaykal kitāb ۚ fal ladhīna ātaynāhumul kitāba yu-minūna bih ۖ wa min hā-ulā-i man yu-minu bih ۚ wa mā yajḥadu bi-āyātinā illal-kāfirūn Thus We have sent down the Book to you; those to whom We have given the Book believe in it, and of these there are some who believe in it, and none contests Our signs except the faithless.
48
وَمَا كُنتَ تَتْلُوا۟ مِن قَبْلِهِۦ مِن كِتَـٰبٍ وَلَا تَخُطُّهُۥ بِيَمِينِكَ ۖ إِذًا لَّٱرْتَابَ ٱلْمُبْطِلُونَ wa mā kunta tatlū min qablihi min kitābin walā takhuṭṭuhu biyamīnik ۖ idhal lartābal mubṭilūn You did not use to recite any scripture before it, nor did you write it with your right hand, for then the impugners would have been skeptical.
49
بَلْ هُوَ ءَايَـٰتٌۢ بَيِّنَـٰتٌ فِى صُدُورِ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ ۚ وَمَا يَجْحَدُ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ إِلَّا ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ bal huwa āyātun bayyinātun fī ṣudūril ladhīna ūtul `il-m ۚ wa mā yajḥadu bi-āyātinā illaẓ ẓālimūn Indeed, it is [present as] manifest signs in the breasts of those who have been given knowledge, and none contests Our signs except wrongdoers.
50
وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ ۖ قُلْ إِنَّمَا ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَإِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ waqālū lawlā unzila `alayhi āyātun min rabbih ۖ qul innamal-āyātu `indallāhi wa innamā ana nadhīrun mubīn They say, ‘Why has not some sign been sent down to him from his Lord?’ Say, ‘These signs are only from Allah, and I am only a manifest warner.’
51
أَوَلَمْ يَكْفِهِمْ أَنَّآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَرَحْمَةً وَذِكْرَىٰ لِقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ awalam yakfihim annā anzalnā `alaykal kitāba yutlā `alayhim ۚ inna fī dhālika laraḥmatan wadhikrā liqawmiy yu-minūn Does it not suffice them that We have sent down to you the Book which is recited to them? There is indeed in that a mercy and admonition for a people who have faith.
52
قُلْ كَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَكُمْ شَهِيدًا ۖ يَعْلَمُ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ بِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ وَكَفَرُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ qul kafā billāhi baynī wabaynakum shahīdā ۖ ya`lamu mā fis samāwāti wal-arḍ ۗ wal ladhīna āmanū bil bāṭili wakafarū billāhi ulā-ika humul khāsirūn Say, ‘Allah suffices as a witness between me and you: He knows whatever there is in the heavens and the earth. Those who put faith in falsehood and defy Allah—it is they who are the losers.’
53
وَيَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِٱلْعَذَابِ ۚ وَلَوْلَآ أَجَلٌ مُّسَمًّى لَّجَآءَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ وَلَيَأْتِيَنَّهُم بَغْتَةً وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ wayasta`jilūnaka bil `adhāb ۚ walawlā ajalun musamman lajā-ahumul `adhābu walaya-tiyannahum baghtatan wahum lā yash`urūn They ask you to hasten the punishment. Yet were it not for a specified time, the punishment would have surely overtaken them. Surely, it will overtake them suddenly while they are unaware.
54
يَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِٱلْعَذَابِ وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِيطَةٌۢ بِٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ yasta`jilūnaka bil `adhābi wa inna jahannama lamuḥīṭatun bil kāfirīn They ask you to hasten the punishment, and indeed hell will besiege the faithless
55
يَوْمَ يَغْشَىٰهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ مِن فَوْقِهِمْ وَمِن تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِهِمْ وَيَقُولُ ذُوقُوا۟ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ yawma yaghshāhumul `adhābu min fawqihim wa min taḥti arjulihim wayaqūlu dhūqū mā kuntum ta`malūn on the day when the punishment envelopes them, from above them and from under their feet, and He will say, ‘Taste what you used to do!’
56
يَـٰعِبَادِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِنَّ أَرْضِى وَٰسِعَةٌ فَإِيَّـٰىَ فَٱعْبُدُونِ yā`ibādiyal ladhīna āmanū inna arḍī wāsi`atun fa-iyyāya fa`budūn O My servants who have faith! My earth is indeed vast. So worship [only] Me.
57
Then you shall be brought back to Us.
58
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُم مِّنَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ غُرَفًا تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۚ نِعْمَ أَجْرُ ٱلْعَـٰمِلِينَ wal ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti lanubawwi-annahum minal jannati ghurafan tajrī min taḥtihal-anhāru khālidīna fīhā ۚ ni`ma ajrul `āmilīn Those who have faith and do righteous deeds, We will surely settle them in the lofty abodes of paradise, with streams running in them, to remain in them [forever]. How excellent is the reward of the workers!
59
ٱلَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا۟ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ alladhīna ṣabarū wa`alā rabbihim yatawakkalūn —Those who are patient and who put their trust in their Lord.
60
وَكَأَيِّن مِّن دَآبَّةٍ لَّا تَحْمِلُ رِزْقَهَا ٱللَّهُ يَرْزُقُهَا وَإِيَّاكُمْ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ waka-ayyin min dābbatin lā taḥmilu rizqahallāhu yarzuquhā wa iyyākum ۚ wahuwas samī`ul `alīm How many an animal there is that does not carry its own provision. Allah provides them and you, and He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.
61
وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَسَخَّرَ ٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ يُؤْفَكُونَ wala-in sa-altahum man khalaqas samāwāti wal-arḍa wasakhharash shamsa wal qamara layaqūlunnallāh ۖ fa-annā yu-fakūn If you ask them, ‘Who created the heavens and the earth, and who has disposed the sun and the moon?’ They will surely say, ‘Allah.’ Then where do they stray?
62
ٱللَّهُ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَقْدِرُ لَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍ عَلِيمٌ allāhu yabsuṭur rizqa liman yashā-u min `ibādihi wayaqdiru lah ۚ innallāha bikulli shay-in `alīm Allah expands the provision for whomever He wishes of His servants, and tightens it for him. Indeed Allah has knowledge of all things.
63
وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّن نَّزَّلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَحْيَا بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَوْتِهَا لَيَقُولُنَّ ٱللَّهُ ۚ قُلِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ۚ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْقِلُونَ wala-in sa-altahum man nazzala minas samā-i mā-an fa-aḥyā bihil-arḍa min ba`di mawtihā layaqūlunnallāh ۚ qulil ḥamdu lillāh ۚ bal aktharuhum lā ya`qilūn And if you ask them, ‘Who sends down water from the sky, with which He revives the earth after its death?’ They will surely say, ‘Allah.’ Say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah!’ But most of them do not exercise their reason.
64
وَمَا هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَآ إِلَّا لَهْوٌ وَلَعِبٌ ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱلدَّارَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ لَهِىَ ٱلْحَيَوَانُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ wa mā hādhihil ḥayātud dunyā illā lahwun wala`ib ۚ wa innad dāral-ākhirata lahiyal ḥayawān ۚ law kānū ya`lamūn The life of this world is nothing but diversion and play, but the abode of the Hereafter is indeed Life (itself), had they known!
65
فَإِذَا رَكِبُوا۟ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ دَعَوُا۟ ٱللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّىٰهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْبَرِّ إِذَا هُمْ يُشْرِكُونَ fa-idhā rakibū fil fulki da`awullāha mukhliṣīna lahud dīna falammā najjāhum ilal-barri idhā hum yushrikūn When they board the ship, they invoke Allah putting exclusive faith in Him, but when He delivers them to land, behold, they ascribe partners [to Him],
66
لِيَكْفُرُوا۟ بِمَآ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ وَلِيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ liyakfurū bimā ātaynāhum waliyatamatta`ū ۖ fasawfa ya`lamūn being ungrateful for what We have given them! Let them enjoy. Soon they will know!
67
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّا جَعَلْنَا حَرَمًا ءَامِنًا وَيُتَخَطَّفُ ٱلنَّاسُ مِنْ حَوْلِهِمْ ۚ أَفَبِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ يُؤْمِنُونَ وَبِنِعْمَةِ ٱللَّهِ يَكْفُرُونَ awalam yaraw annā ja`alnā ḥaraman āminan wayutakhaṭṭafun nāsu min ḥawlihim ۚ afabil bāṭili yu-minūna wabini`matil lāhi yakfurūn Have they not seen that We have appointed a safe sanctuary, while the people are despoiled all around them? Would they then believe in falsehood and be ungrateful toward the blessing of Allah?
68
وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوْ كَذَّبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُۥٓ ۚ أَلَيْسَ فِى جَهَنَّمَ مَثْوًى لِّلْكَـٰفِرِينَ wa man aẓlamu mimmanif-tarā `alallāhi kadhiban aw kadhhaba bil ḥaqqi lammā jā-ah ۚ alaysa fī jahannama mathwan lilkāfirīn Who is a greater wrongdoer than him who fabricates a lie against Allah, or denies the truth when it comes to him? Is not the [final] abode of the faithless in hell?
69
وَٱلَّذِينَ جَـٰهَدُوا۟ فِينَا لَنَهْدِيَنَّهُمْ سُبُلَنَا ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَمَعَ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ wal ladhīna jāhadū fīnā lanahdiyannahum subulanā ۚ wa innallāha lama`al muḥsinīn As for those who strive in Us, We shall surely guide them in Our ways, and Allah is indeed with the virtuous.
