بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
ٱقْتَرَبَ لِلنَّاسِ حِسَابُهُمْ وَهُمْ فِى غَفْلَةٍ مُّعْرِضُونَ iqtaraba linnāsi ḥisābuhum wahum fī ghaflatim mu`riḍūn Mankind’s reckoning has drawn near to them, yet they are disregardful in [their] obliviousness.
2
مَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن ذِكْرٍ مِّن رَّبِّهِم مُّحْدَثٍ إِلَّا ٱسْتَمَعُوهُ وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَ mā ya-tīhim min dhikrin min rabbihim muḥdathin illas-tama`ūhu wahum yal`abūn There does not come to them any new reminder from their Lord but they listen to it as they play around,
3
لَاهِيَةً قُلُوبُهُمْ ۗ وَأَسَرُّوا۟ ٱلنَّجْوَى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ هَلْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ ۖ أَفَتَأْتُونَ ٱلسِّحْرَ وَأَنتُمْ تُبْصِرُونَ lāhiyatan qulūbuhum ۗ wa-asarrun najwal ladhīna ẓalamū hal hādhā illā basharun mithlukum ۖ afata-tūnas siḥra wa-antum tubṣirūn their hearts set on diversions. The wrongdoers secretly whisper together, [saying], ‘Is this [man] not a human being like yourselves? Will you give in to magic with open eyes?’
4
قَالَ رَبِّى يَعْلَمُ ٱلْقَوْلَ فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ qāla rabbī ya`lamul qawla fis samā-i wal-arḍ ۖ wahuwas samī`ul `alīm He said, ‘My Lord knows every word [spoken] in the sky and on the earth, and He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.’
5
بَلْ قَالُوٓا۟ أَضْغَـٰثُ أَحْلَـٰمٍۭ بَلِ ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ بَلْ هُوَ شَاعِرٌ فَلْيَأْتِنَا بِـَٔايَةٍ كَمَآ أُرْسِلَ ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ bal qālū aḍghāthu aḥlāmin balif-tarāhu bal huwa shā`irun falya-tinā bi-āyatin kamā ursilal-awwalūn But they said, ‘[They are] muddled dreams!’ ‘Indeed, he has fabricated it!’ ‘Indeed, he is a poet!’ ‘Let him bring us a sign, like those sent to the former generations.’
6
مَآ ءَامَنَتْ قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْيَةٍ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهَآ ۖ أَفَهُمْ يُؤْمِنُونَ mā āmanat qablahum min qaryatin ahlaknāhā ۖ afahum yu-minūn No town that We destroyed before them believed. Will these then have faith [if they are sent signs]?
7
وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا قَبْلَكَ إِلَّا رِجَالًا نُّوحِىٓ إِلَيْهِمْ ۖ فَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟ أَهْلَ ٱلذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ wa mā arsalnā qablaka illā rijālan nūḥī ilayhim ۖ fas-alū ahladh dhikri in kuntum lā ta`lamūn We did not send [any apostles] before you except as men to whom We revealed. Ask the People of the Reminder if you do not know.
8
وَمَا جَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ جَسَدًا لَّا يَأْكُلُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ خَـٰلِدِينَ wa mā ja`alnāhum jasadal lā ya-kulūnaṭ ṭa`āma wa mā kānū khālidīn We did not make them bodies that did not eat food, nor were they immortal.
9
ثُمَّ صَدَقْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْوَعْدَ فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُمْ وَمَن نَّشَآءُ وَأَهْلَكْنَا ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ thumma ṣadaqnāhumul wa`da fa-anjaynāhum wa man nashā-u wa-ahlaknal musrifīn Then We fulfilled Our promise to them, and We delivered them and whomever We wished, and We destroyed the transgressors.
10
لَقَدْ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ كِتَـٰبًا فِيهِ ذِكْرُكُمْ ۖ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ laqad anzalnā ilaykum kitāban fīhi dhikrukum ۖ afalā ta`qilūn Certainly We have sent down to you a Book in which there is an admonition for you. Do you not exercise your reason?
11
وَكَمْ قَصَمْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ كَانَتْ ظَالِمَةً وَأَنشَأْنَا بَعْدَهَا قَوْمًا ءَاخَرِينَ wakam qaṣamnā min qaryatin kānat ẓālimatan wa-ansha-nā ba`dahā qawman ākharīn How many a town We have smashed that had been wrongdoing, and We brought forth another people after it.
12
فَلَمَّآ أَحَسُّوا۟ بَأْسَنَآ إِذَا هُم مِّنْهَا يَرْكُضُونَ falammā aḥassū ba-sanā idhā hum minhā yarkuḍūn So when they sighted Our punishment, behold, they ran away from it.
13
لَا تَرْكُضُوا۟ وَٱرْجِعُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَآ أُتْرِفْتُمْ فِيهِ وَمَسَـٰكِنِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُسْـَٔلُونَ lā tarkuḍū warji`ū ilā mā utriftum fīhi wa masākinikum la`allakum tus-alūn ‘Do not run away! Return to the opulence you were given to enjoy and to your dwellings so that you may be questioned!’
14
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِينَ qālū yāwaylanā innā kunnā ẓālimīn They said, ‘Woe to us! We have indeed been wrongdoers!’
15
فَمَا زَالَت تِّلْكَ دَعْوَىٰهُمْ حَتَّىٰ جَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ حَصِيدًا خَـٰمِدِينَ famā zālat tilka da`wāhum ḥattā ja`alnāhum ḥaṣīdan khāmidīn That remained their cry until We turned them into a mown field, stilled [like burnt ashes].
16
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَـٰعِبِينَ wa mā khalaqnas samā-a wal-arḍa wa mā baynahumā lā`ibīn We did not create the sky and the earth and whatever is between them for play.
17
لَوْ أَرَدْنَآ أَن نَّتَّخِذَ لَهْوًا لَّٱتَّخَذْنَـٰهُ مِن لَّدُنَّآ إِن كُنَّا فَـٰعِلِينَ law aradnā an nattakhidha lahwan lattakhadhnāhu min ladunnā in kunnā fā`ilīn Had We desired to take up some diversion We would have taken it up with Ourselves, were We to do [so].
18
بَلْ نَقْذِفُ بِٱلْحَقِّ عَلَى ٱلْبَـٰطِلِ فَيَدْمَغُهُۥ فَإِذَا هُوَ زَاهِقٌ ۚ وَلَكُمُ ٱلْوَيْلُ مِمَّا تَصِفُونَ bal naqdhifu bil ḥaqqi `alal-bāṭili fayadmaghuhu fa-idhā huwa zāhiq ۚ walakumul waylu mimmā taṣifūn Indeed, We hurl the truth against falsehood, and it crushes its head, and behold, falsehood vanishes! And woe to you for what you allege [about Allah].
19
وَلَهُۥ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَمَنْ عِندَهُۥ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهِۦ وَلَا يَسْتَحْسِرُونَ walahu man fis samāwāti wal-arḍ ۚ wa man `indahu lā yastakbirūna `an `ibādatihi walā yastaḥsirūn To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and those who are near Him do not disdain to worship Him, nor do they become weary.
20
يُسَبِّحُونَ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ لَا يَفْتُرُونَ yusabbiḥūnal layla wan nahāra lā yafturūn They glorify [Him] night and day, and they do not flag.
21
أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟ ءَالِهَةً مِّنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ هُمْ يُنشِرُونَ amit-takhadhū ālihatan minal-arḍi hum yunshirūn Have they taken gods from the earth who raise [the dead]?
22
لَوْ كَانَ فِيهِمَآ ءَالِهَةٌ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ لَفَسَدَتَا ۚ فَسُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَرْشِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ law kāna fīhimā ālihatun illallāhu lafasadatā ۚ fasubḥānallāhi rabbil `arshi `ammā yaṣifūn Had there been any gods in them other than Allah, they would surely have fallen apart. Clear is Allah, the Lord of the Throne, of what they allege [concerning Him].
23
لَا يُسْـَٔلُ عَمَّا يَفْعَلُ وَهُمْ يُسْـَٔلُونَ lā yus-alu `ammā yaf`alu wahum yus-alūn He is not questioned concerning what He does, but they are questioned.
24
أَمِ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةً ۖ قُلْ هَاتُوا۟ بُرْهَـٰنَكُمْ ۖ هَـٰذَا ذِكْرُ مَن مَّعِىَ وَذِكْرُ مَن قَبْلِى ۗ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ٱلْحَقَّ ۖ فَهُم مُّعْرِضُونَ amit-takhadhū min dūnihi ālihah ۖ qul hātū burhānakum ۖ hādhā dhikru man ma`iya wadhikru man qablī ۗ bal aktharuhum lā ya`lamūnal ḥaqq ۖ fahum mu`riḍūn Have they taken gods besides Him? Say, ‘Produce your evidence! This is a precept of those who are with me, and a precept of those [who went] before me.’ But most of them do not know the truth, and so they are disregardful.
25
وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا نُوحِىٓ إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱعْبُدُونِ wa mā arsalnā min qablika min rasūlin illā nūḥī ilayhi annahu lā ilāha illā ana fa`budūn We did not send any apostle before you but that We revealed to him that ‘There is no god except Me; so worship Me.’
26
وَقَالُوا۟ ٱتَّخَذَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَلَدًا ۗ سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ ۚ بَلْ عِبَادٌ مُّكْرَمُونَ waqālut-takhadhar raḥmānu waladā ۗ subḥānah ۚ bal `ibādun mukramūn They say, ‘The All-beneficent has taken offsprings.’ Immaculate is He! Indeed, they are [His] honoured servants.
27
لَا يَسْبِقُونَهُۥ بِٱلْقَوْلِ وَهُم بِأَمْرِهِۦ يَعْمَلُونَ lā yasbiqūnahu bil qawli wahum bi-amrihi ya`malūn They do not venture to speak ahead of Him, and they act by His command.
28
يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلَا يَشْفَعُونَ إِلَّا لِمَنِ ٱرْتَضَىٰ وَهُم مِّنْ خَشْيَتِهِۦ مُشْفِقُونَ ya`lamu mā bayna aydīhim wa mā khalfahum walā yashfa`ūna illā limanir-taḍā wahum min khashyatihi mushfiqūn He knows that which is before them and that which is behind them, and they do not intercede except for someone He approves of, and they are apprehensive for the fear of Him.
29
وَمَن يَقُلْ مِنْهُمْ إِنِّىٓ إِلَـٰهٌ مِّن دُونِهِۦ فَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِيهِ جَهَنَّمَ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ wa man yaqul minhum innī ilāhun min dūnihi fadhālika najzīhi jahannam ۚ kadhālika najziẓ ẓālimīn Should any of them say, ‘I am a god besides Him,’ We will requite him with hell. Thus do We requite the wrongdoers.
30
أَوَلَمْ يَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ كَانَتَا رَتْقًا فَفَتَقْنَـٰهُمَا ۖ وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمَآءِ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ حَىٍّ ۖ أَفَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ awalam yaral ladhīna kafarū annas samāwāti wal-arḍa kānatā ratqan fafataqnāhumā ۖ waja`alnā minal mā-i kulla shay-in ḥayy ۖ afalā yu-minūn Have the faithless not regarded that the heavens and the earth were interwoven and We unravelled them, and We made every living thing out of water? Will they not then have faith?
31
وَجَعَلْنَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ رَوَٰسِىَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِهِمْ وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا فِجَاجًا سُبُلًا لَّعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ waja`alnā fil-arḍi rawāsiya an tamīda bihim waja`alnā fīhā fijājan subulal la`allahum yahtadūn We set firm mountains in the earth lest it should shake with them, and We made broad ways in them so that they may be guided [to their destinations].
32
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ سَقْفًا مَّحْفُوظًا ۖ وَهُمْ عَنْ ءَايَـٰتِهَا مُعْرِضُونَ waja`alnas samā-a saqfan maḥfūẓā ۖ wahum `an āyātihā mu`riḍūn We made the sky a preserved roof and yet they are disregardful of its signs.
33
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ وَٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ ۖ كُلٌّ فِى فَلَكٍ يَسْبَحُونَ wahuwal ladhī khalaqal layla wan nahāra wash shamsa wal qamar ۖ kullun fī falakiy yasbaḥūn It is He who created the night and the day, the sun and the moon, each swimming in an orbit.
34
وَمَا جَعَلْنَا لِبَشَرٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ ٱلْخُلْدَ ۖ أَفَإِي۟ن مِّتَّ فَهُمُ ٱلْخَـٰلِدُونَ wa mā ja`alnā libasharin min qablikal khuld ۖ afa-in mitta fahumul khālidūn We did not give immortality to any human before you. If you are fated to die, will they live on forever?
35
كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَآئِقَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ ۗ وَنَبْلُوكُم بِٱلشَّرِّ وَٱلْخَيْرِ فِتْنَةً ۖ وَإِلَيْنَا تُرْجَعُونَ kullu nafsin dhā-iqatul mawt ۗ wanablūkum bish sharri wal khayri fitnah ۖ wa ilaynā turja`ūn Every soul shall taste death, and We will test you with good and ill by way of test, and to Us you will be brought back.
36
وَإِذَا رَءَاكَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِن يَتَّخِذُونَكَ إِلَّا هُزُوًا أَهَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى يَذْكُرُ ءَالِهَتَكُمْ وَهُم بِذِكْرِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ هُمْ كَـٰفِرُونَ wa idhā ra-ākal ladhīna kafarū in yattakhidhūnaka illā huzuwan ahādhal ladhī yadhkuru ālihatakum wahum bidhikrir raḥmāni hum kāfirūn Whenever the faithless see you they only take you in derision: ‘Is this the one who remembers your gods?’ while they remain defiant towards the remembrance of the All-beneficent.
37
خُلِقَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مِنْ عَجَلٍ ۚ سَأُو۟رِيكُمْ ءَايَـٰتِى فَلَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونِ khuliqal-insānu min `ajal ۚ sa-urīkum āyātī falā tasta`jilūn Man is a creature of haste. Soon I will show you My signs. So do not ask Me to hasten.
38
وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ wayaqūlūna matā hādhal wa`du in kuntum ṣādiqīn And they say, ‘When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?’
39
لَوْ يَعْلَمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ حِينَ لَا يَكُفُّونَ عَن وُجُوهِهِمُ ٱلنَّارَ وَلَا عَن ظُهُورِهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ law ya`lamul ladhīna kafarū ḥīna lā yakuffūna `an wujūhihimun nāra walā `an ẓuhūrihim walā hum yunṣarūn If only the faithless knew about the time when they will not be able to keep the Fire off their faces and their backs, nor will they be helped!
40
بَلْ تَأْتِيهِم بَغْتَةً فَتَبْهَتُهُمْ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ رَدَّهَا وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ bal ta-tīhim baghtatan fatabhatuhum falā yastaṭī`ūna raddahā walā hum yunẓarūn Indeed, it will overtake them suddenly, dumbfounding them. So they will neither be able to avert it, nor will they be granted any respite.
41
وَلَقَدِ ٱسْتُهْزِئَ بِرُسُلٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِٱلَّذِينَ سَخِرُوا۟ مِنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ walaqadis-tuhzi-a birusulin min qablika faḥāqa bil ladhīna sakhirū minhum mā kānū bihi yastahzi-ūn Apostles were certainly derided before you; but those who ridiculed them were besieged by what they had been deriding.
42
قُلْ مَن يَكْلَؤُكُم بِٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ مِنَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۗ بَلْ هُمْ عَن ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِم مُّعْرِضُونَ qul man yakla-ukum bil layli wan nahāri minar raḥmān ۗ bal hum `an dhikri rabbihim mu`riḍūn Say, ‘Who can guard you, day and night, against [the punishment of] the All-beneficent [should He want to punish you]?’ Indeed, they are disregardful of their Lord’s remembrance.
43
أَمْ لَهُمْ ءَالِهَةٌ تَمْنَعُهُم مِّن دُونِنَا ۚ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلَا هُم مِّنَّا يُصْحَبُونَ am lahum ālihatun tamna`uhum min dūninā ۚ lā yastaṭī`ūna naṣra anfusihim walā hum minnā yuṣ-ḥabūn Do they have gods besides Us to defend them? Neither can they help themselves, nor can they shield [the idolaters] from Us.
44
بَلْ مَتَّعْنَا هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ طَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْعُمُرُ ۗ أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّا نَأْتِى ٱلْأَرْضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَآ ۚ أَفَهُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ bal matta`nā hā-ulā-i wa-ābā-ahum ḥattā ṭāla `alayhimul `umur ۗ afalā yarawna annā na-til-arḍa nanquṣuhā min aṭrāfihā ۚ afahumul ghālibūn Indeed, We have provided for them and their fathers until they lived on for long years. Do they not see how We visit the land diminishing it at its edges? Are they the ones who will prevail?
45
قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أُنذِرُكُم بِٱلْوَحْىِ ۚ وَلَا يَسْمَعُ ٱلصُّمُّ ٱلدُّعَآءَ إِذَا مَا يُنذَرُونَ qul innamā undhirukum bil waḥyi ۚ walā yasma`uṣ ṣummud du`ā-a idhā mā yundharūn Say, ‘I indeed warn you by the means of revelation.’ But the deaf do not hear the call when they are warned.
46
وَلَئِن مَّسَّتْهُمْ نَفْحَةٌ مِّنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّكَ لَيَقُولُنَّ يَـٰوَيْلَنَآ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِينَ wala-in massat-hum nafḥatun min `adhābi rabbika layaqūlunna yāwaylanā innā kunnā ẓālimīn Should a whiff of your Lord’s punishment touch them, they will surely say, ‘Woe to us! We have indeed been wrongdoers!’
47
وَنَضَعُ ٱلْمَوَٰزِينَ ٱلْقِسْطَ لِيَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ فَلَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌ شَيْـًٔا ۖ وَإِن كَانَ مِثْقَالَ حَبَّةٍ مِّنْ خَرْدَلٍ أَتَيْنَا بِهَا ۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِنَا حَـٰسِبِينَ wanaḍa`ul mawāzīnal qisṭa liyawmil qiyāmati falā tuẓlamu nafsun shay-ā ۖ wa in kāna mithqāla ḥabbatim min khardalin ataynā bihā ۗ wakafā binā ḥāsibīn We shall set up just scales on the Day of Resurrection, and no soul will be wronged in the least. Even if it be the weight of a mustard seed We shall produce it and We suffice as reckoners.
48
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ ٱلْفُرْقَانَ وَضِيَآءً وَذِكْرًا لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ walaqad ātaynā mūsā wahārūnal furqāna waḍiyā-an wadhikral lil-muttaqīn Certainly We gave Moses and Aaron the Criterion, a light and reminder for the Godwary
49
ٱلَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلْغَيْبِ وَهُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّاعَةِ مُشْفِقُونَ alladhīna yakhshawna rabbahum bil ghaybi wahum minas sā`ati mushfiqūn —those who fear their Lord in secret, and who are apprehensive of the Hour.
50
وَهَـٰذَا ذِكْرٌ مُّبَارَكٌ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ ۚ أَفَأَنتُمْ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ wahādhā dhikrun mubārakun anzalnāh ۚ afa-antum lahu munkirūn This [too] is a blessed reminder, which We have sent down. Will you then deny it?
51
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَآ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ رُشْدَهُۥ مِن قَبْلُ وَكُنَّا بِهِۦ عَـٰلِمِينَ walaqad ātaynā ibrāhīma rushdahu min qablu wakunnā bihi `ālimīn Certainly We had given Abraham his probity before, and We knew him
52
إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَا هَـٰذِهِ ٱلتَّمَاثِيلُ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَنتُمْ لَهَا عَـٰكِفُونَ idh qāla li-abīhi waqawmihi mā hādhihit tamāthīlul latī antum lahā `ākifūn when he said to his father and his people, ‘What are these images to which you keep on clinging?’
53
قَالُوا۟ وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا لَهَا عَـٰبِدِينَ qālū wajadnā ābā-anā lahā `ābidīn They said, ‘We found our fathers worshipping them.’
54
قَالَ لَقَدْ كُنتُمْ أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُمْ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ qāla laqad kuntum antum wa-ābā-ukum fī ḍalālin mubīn He said, ‘Certainly you and your fathers have been in manifest error.’
55
قَالُوٓا۟ أَجِئْتَنَا بِٱلْحَقِّ أَمْ أَنتَ مِنَ ٱللَّـٰعِبِينَ qālū aji-tanā bil ḥaqqi am anta minallā`ibīn They said, ‘Are you telling the truth, or are you [just] kidding?’
56
قَالَ بَل رَّبُّكُمْ رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ٱلَّذِى فَطَرَهُنَّ وَأَنَا۠ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلشَّـٰهِدِينَ qāla bal rabbukum rabbus samāwāti wal-arḍil ladhī faṭarahunna wa-ana `alā dhālikum minash shāhidīn He said, ‘Indeed, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, who originated them, and I affirm that.
57

59
قَالُوا۟ مَن فَعَلَ هَـٰذَا بِـَٔالِهَتِنَآ إِنَّهُۥ لَمِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ qālū man fa`ala hādhā bi-ālihatinā innahu laminaẓ ẓālimīn They said, ‘Whoever has done this to Our gods?! He is indeed a wrongdoer!’

64
فَرَجَعُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ فَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّكُمْ أَنتُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ faraja`ū ilā anfusihim faqālū innakum antumuẓ ẓālimūn Thereat they came to themselves and said [to one another], ‘Indeed it is you who are the wrongdoers!’
65

67
أُفٍّ لَّكُمْ وَلِمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ uffin lakum walimā ta`budūna min dūnillāh ۖ afalā ta`qilūn Fie on you and what you worship besides Allah! Do you not exercise your reason?’

70
وَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْأَخْسَرِينَ wa-arādū bihi kaydan faja`alnāhumul-akhsarīn They plotted to harm him, but We made them the biggest losers.
71
وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَلُوطًا إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ ٱلَّتِى بَـٰرَكْنَا فِيهَا لِلْعَـٰلَمِينَ wanajjaynāhu walūṭan ilal-arḍil latī bāraknā fīhā lil`ālamīn We delivered him and Lot toward the land, which We have blessed for all nations.

We disposed the mountains and the birds to glorify [Us] with David, and We have been the doer [of these things].
80
وَعَلَّمْنَـٰهُ صَنْعَةَ لَبُوسٍ لَّكُمْ لِتُحْصِنَكُم مِّنۢ بَأْسِكُمْ ۖ فَهَلْ أَنتُمْ شَـٰكِرُونَ wa`allamnāhu ṣan`ata labūsin lakum lituḥṣinakum min ba-sikum ۖ fahal antum shākirūn We taught him the making of coats of mail for you, to protect you from your [own] violence.
