بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَسْرَىٰ بِعَبْدِهِۦ لَيْلًا مِّنَ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ إِلَى ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْأَقْصَا ٱلَّذِى بَـٰرَكْنَا حَوْلَهُۥ لِنُرِيَهُۥ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِنَآ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ subḥānal ladhī asrā bi`abdihi laylan minal masjidil ḥarāmi ilal-masjidil-aqṣal ladhī bāraknā ḥawlahu linuriyahu min āyātinā ۚ innahu huwas samī`ul baṣīr Immaculate is He who carried His servant on a journey by night from the Sacred Mosque to the Farthest Mosque whose environs We have blessed, that We might show him some of Our signs. Indeed, He is the All-hearing, the All-seeing.
2
وَءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ هُدًى لِّبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ أَلَّا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ مِن دُونِى وَكِيلًا wa-ātaynā mūsal kitāba waja`alnāhu hudan libanī isrā-iyla allā tattakhidhū min dūnī wakīlā We gave Moses the Book, and made it a guide for the Children of Israel—[saying,] ‘Do not take any trustee besides Me’—
3
ذُرِّيَّةَ مَنْ حَمَلْنَا مَعَ نُوحٍ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَبْدًا شَكُورًا dhurriyyata man ḥamalnā ma`a nūḥ ۚ innahu kāna `abdan shakūrā descendants of those whom We carried [in the ark] with Noah. Indeed, he was a grateful servant.
4
وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ لَتُفْسِدُنَّ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَّتَيْنِ وَلَتَعْلُنَّ عُلُوًّا كَبِيرًا waqaḍaynā ilā banī isrā-iyla fil kitābi latufsidunna fil-arḍi marratayni walata`lunna `uluwwan kabīrā We revealed to the Children of Israel in the Book: ‘Twice you will cause corruption on the earth, and you will perpetrate great tyranny.’
5
فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ أُولَىٰهُمَا بَعَثْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ عِبَادًا لَّنَآ أُو۟لِى بَأْسٍ شَدِيدٍ فَجَاسُوا۟ خِلَـٰلَ ٱلدِّيَارِ ۚ وَكَانَ وَعْدًا مَّفْعُولًا fa-idhā jā-a wa`du ūlāhumā ba`athnā `alaykum `ibādal lanā ulī ba-sin shadīdin fajāsū khilālad diyār ۚ wakāna wa`dan maf`ūlā So when the first occasion of the two [prophecies] came, We aroused against you Our servants possessing great might, and they ransacked [your] habitations, and the promise was bound to be fulfilled.
6
ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَا لَكُمُ ٱلْكَرَّةَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَأَمْدَدْنَـٰكُم بِأَمْوَٰلٍ وَبَنِينَ وَجَعَلْنَـٰكُمْ أَكْثَرَ نَفِيرًا thumma radadnā lakumul karrata `alayhim wa-amdadnākum bi-amwālin wabanīna waja`alnākum akthara nafīrā Then We gave you back the turn [to prevail] over them, and We aided you with children and wealth, and made you greater in number,
7
إِنْ أَحْسَنتُمْ أَحْسَنتُمْ لِأَنفُسِكُمْ ۖ وَإِنْ أَسَأْتُمْ فَلَهَا ۚ فَإِذَا جَآءَ وَعْدُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لِيَسُـۥٓـُٔوا۟ وُجُوهَكُمْ وَلِيَدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْمَسْجِدَ كَمَا دَخَلُوهُ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَلِيُتَبِّرُوا۟ مَا عَلَوْا۟ تَتْبِيرًا in aḥsantum aḥsantum li-anfusikum ۖ wa in asa-tum falahā ۚ fa-idhā jā-a wa`dul-ākhirati liyasū-ū wujūhakum waliyadkhulul masjida kamā dakhalūhu awwala marratin waliyutabbirū mā `alaw tatbīrā [saying,] ‘If you do good, you will do good to your [own] souls, and if you do evil, it will be [evil] for them.’ So when the occasion for the other [prophecy] comes, they will make your faces wretched, and enter the Temple just as they entered it the first time, and destroy utterly whatever they come upon.
8
عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمْ أَن يَرْحَمَكُمْ ۚ وَإِنْ عُدتُّمْ عُدْنَا ۘ وَجَعَلْنَا جَهَنَّمَ لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ حَصِيرًا `asā rabbukum an yarḥamakum ۚ wa in `udtum `udnā ۘ waja`alnā jahannama lilkāfirīna ḥaṣīrā Maybe your Lord will have mercy on you, but if you revert, We [too] will revert, and We have made hell a prison for the faithless.
9
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ يَهْدِى لِلَّتِى هِىَ أَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ أَنَّ لَهُمْ أَجْرًا كَبِيرًا inna hādhal qur-āna yahdī lillatī hiya aqwamu wayubashhirul mu-minīnal ladhīna ya`malūnaṣ ṣāliḥāti anna lahum ajran kabīrā Indeed this Quran guides to what is most upright, and gives the good news to the faithful who do righteous deeds that there is a great reward for them.
10
وَأَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا wa-annal ladhīna lā yu-minūna bil-ākhirati a`tadnā lahum `adhāban alīmā As for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, We have prepared a painful punishment for them.
11
وَيَدْعُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ بِٱلشَّرِّ دُعَآءَهُۥ بِٱلْخَيْرِ ۖ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ عَجُولًا wayad`ul-insānu bish sharri du`ā-ahu bil khayr ۖ wakānal-insānu `ajūlā Man prays for ill as [avidly as] he prays for good, and man is overhasty.
12
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ ءَايَتَيْنِ ۖ فَمَحَوْنَآ ءَايَةَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَجَعَلْنَآ ءَايَةَ ٱلنَّهَارِ مُبْصِرَةً لِّتَبْتَغُوا۟ فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَلِتَعْلَمُوا۟ عَدَدَ ٱلسِّنِينَ وَٱلْحِسَابَ ۚ وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ فَصَّلْنَـٰهُ تَفْصِيلًا waja`alnal layla wan nahāra āyatayn ۖ famaḥawnā āyatal layli waja`alnā āyatan nahāri mubṣiratan litabtaghū faḍlan min rabbikum walita`lamū `adadas sinīna wal ḥisāb ۚ wakulla shay-in faṣṣalnāhu tafṣīlā We made the night and the day two signs. Then We faded out the sign of the night, and made the sign of the day lightsome, so that you may seek from your Lord’s bounty and that you may know the number of years and calculation [of time], and We have elaborated everything in detail.
13
وَكُلَّ إِنسَـٰنٍ أَلْزَمْنَـٰهُ طَـٰٓئِرَهُۥ فِى عُنُقِهِۦ ۖ وَنُخْرِجُ لَهُۥ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ كِتَـٰبًا يَلْقَىٰهُ مَنشُورًا wakulla insānin alzamnāhu ṭā-irahu fī `unuqih ۖ wanukhriju lahu yawmal qiyāmati kitāban yalqāhu manshūrā We have attached every person’s omen to his neck, and We shall bring it out for him on the Day of Resurrection as a book that he will find wide open.
14
ٱقْرَأْ كِتَـٰبَكَ كَفَىٰ بِنَفْسِكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكَ حَسِيبًا iqra-kitābaka kafā binafsikal yawma `alayka ḥasībā ‘Read your book! Today your soul suffices as your own reckoner.’
15
مَّنِ ٱهْتَدَىٰ فَإِنَّمَا يَهْتَدِى لِنَفْسِهِۦ ۖ وَمَن ضَلَّ فَإِنَّمَا يَضِلُّ عَلَيْهَا ۚ وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ ۗ وَمَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِينَ حَتَّىٰ نَبْعَثَ رَسُولًا manih-tadā fa-innamā yahtadī linafsih ۖ wa man ḍalla fa-innamā yaḍillu `alayhā ۚ walā taziru wāziratun wizra ukhrā ۗ wa mā kunnā mu`adhhibīna ḥattā nab`atha rasūlā Whoever is guided is guided only for [the good of] his own soul, and whoever goes astray, goes astray only to its detriment. No bearer shall bear another’s burden. We do not punish [any community] until We have sent [it] an apostle.
16
وَإِذَآ أَرَدْنَآ أَن نُّهْلِكَ قَرْيَةً أَمَرْنَا مُتْرَفِيهَا فَفَسَقُوا۟ فِيهَا فَحَقَّ عَلَيْهَا ٱلْقَوْلُ فَدَمَّرْنَـٰهَا تَدْمِيرًا wa idhā aradnā an nuhlika qaryatan amarnā mutrafīhā fafasaqū fīhā faḥaqqa `alayhal qawlu fadammarnāhā tadmīrā And when We desire to destroy a town We command its affluent ones [to obey Allah]. But they commit transgression in it, and so the word becomes due against it, and We destroy it utterly.
17
وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ نُوحٍ ۗ وَكَفَىٰ بِرَبِّكَ بِذُنُوبِ عِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرًۢا بَصِيرًا wakam ahlaknā minal qurūni min ba`di nūḥ ۗ wakafā birabbika bidhunūbi `ibādihi khabīran baṣīrā How many generations We have destroyed since Noah! Your Lord is sufficient as [a witness who is] well aware and percipient of His servants’ sins.
18
مَّن كَانَ يُرِيدُ ٱلْعَاجِلَةَ عَجَّلْنَا لَهُۥ فِيهَا مَا نَشَآءُ لِمَن نُّرِيدُ ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَا لَهُۥ جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَىٰهَا مَذْمُومًا مَّدْحُورًا man kāna yurīdul `ājilata `ajjalnā lahu fīhā mā nashā-u liman nurīdu thumma ja`alnā lahu jahannama yaṣlāhā madhmūman mad-ḥūrā Whoever desires this transitory life, We expedite for him therein whatever We wish, for whomever We desire. Then We appoint hell for him, to enter it, blameful and spurned.
19
وَمَنْ أَرَادَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةَ وَسَعَىٰ لَهَا سَعْيَهَا وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ كَانَ سَعْيُهُم مَّشْكُورًا wa man arādal-ākhirata wasa`ā lahā sa`yahā wahuwa mu-minun fa-ulā-ika kāna sa`yuhum mashkūrā Whoever desires the Hereafter and strives for it with an endeavour worthy of it, should he be faithful,—the endeavour of such will be well-appreciated.
20
كُلًّا نُّمِدُّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مِنْ عَطَآءِ رَبِّكَ ۚ وَمَا كَانَ عَطَآءُ رَبِّكَ مَحْظُورًا kullan numiddu hā-ulā-i wahā-ulā-i min `aṭā-i rabbik ۚ wa mā kāna `aṭā-u rabbika maḥẓūrā To these and to those—to all We extend the bounty of your Lord, and the bounty of your Lord is not confined.
21
ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ فَضَّلْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۚ وَلَلْـَٔاخِرَةُ أَكْبَرُ دَرَجَـٰتٍ وَأَكْبَرُ تَفْضِيلًا un-ẓur kayfa faḍḍalnā ba`ḍahum `alā ba`ḍ ۚ walal-ākhiratu akbaru darajātin wa-akbaru tafḍīlā Observe how We have given some of them an advantage over some others; yet the Hereafter is surely greater in respect of ranks and greater in respect of relative merit.
22
لَّا تَجْعَلْ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَتَقْعُدَ مَذْمُومًا مَّخْذُولًا lā taj`al ma`allāhi ilāhan ākhara fataq`uda madhmūman makhdhūlā Do not set up another god besides Allah, or you will sit blameworthy, forsaken.
23
وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُ وَبِٱلْوَٰلِدَيْنِ إِحْسَـٰنًا ۚ إِمَّا يَبْلُغَنَّ عِندَكَ ٱلْكِبَرَ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَوْ كِلَاهُمَا فَلَا تَقُل لَّهُمَآ أُفٍّ وَلَا تَنْهَرْهُمَا وَقُل لَّهُمَا قَوْلًا كَرِيمًا waqaḍā rabbuka allā ta`budū illā iyyāhu wabil wālidayni iḥsānā ۚ immā yablughanna `indakal kibara aḥaduhumā aw kilāhumā falā taqul lahumā uffin walā tanharhumā waqul lahumā qawlan karīmā Your Lord has decreed that you shall not worship anyone except Him, and [He has enjoined] kindness to parents. Should any of them or both reach old age at your side, do not say to them, ‘Fie!’ And do not chide them, but speak to them noble words.
24
وَٱخْفِضْ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ ٱلذُّلِّ مِنَ ٱلرَّحْمَةِ وَقُل رَّبِّ ٱرْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِى صَغِيرًا wakhfiḍ lahumā janāḥadh dhulli minar raḥmati waqul rabbir-ḥamhumā kamā rabbayānī ṣaghīrā Lower the wing of humility to them, mercifully, and say, ‘My Lord! Have mercy on them, just as they reared me when I was [a] small [child]!’
25
رَّبُّكُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا فِى نُفُوسِكُمْ ۚ إِن تَكُونُوا۟ صَـٰلِحِينَ فَإِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِلْأَوَّٰبِينَ غَفُورًا rabbukum a`lamu bimā fī nufūsikum ۚ in takūnū ṣāliḥīna fa-innahu kāna lil-awwābīna ghafūrā Your Lord knows best what is in your hearts. Should you be righteous, He is indeed most forgiving toward penitents.
26
وَءَاتِ ذَا ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ حَقَّهُۥ وَٱلْمِسْكِينَ وَٱبْنَ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَلَا تُبَذِّرْ تَبْذِيرًا wa-āti dhal qurbā ḥaqqahu wal miskīna wabnas sabīli walā tubadhhir tabdhīrā Give the relatives their [due] right, and the needy and the traveller [as well], but do not squander wastefully.
27
إِنَّ ٱلْمُبَذِّرِينَ كَانُوٓا۟ إِخْوَٰنَ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ۖ وَكَانَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ لِرَبِّهِۦ كَفُورًا innal mubadhhirīna kānū ikhwānash shayāṭīn ۖ wakānash shayṭānu lirabbihi kafūrā Indeed the wasteful are brothers of satans, and Satan is ungrateful to his Lord.
28
وَإِمَّا تُعْرِضَنَّ عَنْهُمُ ٱبْتِغَآءَ رَحْمَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّكَ تَرْجُوهَا فَقُل لَّهُمْ قَوْلًا مَّيْسُورًا wa immā tu`riḍanna `anhumub-tighā-a raḥmatim min rabbika tarjūhā faqul lahum qawlan maysūrā And if you have to hold off from [assisting] them [for now], seeking your Lord’s mercy which you expect [in the future], speak to them gentle words.
29
وَلَا تَجْعَلْ يَدَكَ مَغْلُولَةً إِلَىٰ عُنُقِكَ وَلَا تَبْسُطْهَا كُلَّ ٱلْبَسْطِ فَتَقْعُدَ مَلُومًا مَّحْسُورًا walā taj`al yadaka maghlūlatan ilā `unuqika walā tabsuṭ-hā kullal-basṭi fataq`uda malūman maḥsūrā Do not keep your hand chained to your neck, nor open it altogether, or you will sit blameworthy and regretful.
30
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَبْسُطُ ٱلرِّزْقَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ بِعِبَادِهِۦ خَبِيرًۢا بَصِيرًا inna rabbaka yabsuṭur rizqa liman yashā-u wayaqdir ۚ innahu kāna bi`ibādihi khabīran baṣīrā Indeed your Lord expands the provision for whomever He wishes, and tightens it. Indeed, He is well aware of His servants and a keen observer.
31
وَلَا تَقْتُلُوٓا۟ أَوْلَـٰدَكُمْ خَشْيَةَ إِمْلَـٰقٍ ۖ نَّحْنُ نَرْزُقُهُمْ وَإِيَّاكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ قَتْلَهُمْ كَانَ خِطْـًٔا كَبِيرًا walā taqtulū awlādakum khashyata imlāq ۖ naḥnu narzuquhum wa iyyākum ۚ inna qatlahum kāna khiṭ-an kabīrā Do not kill your children for the fear of penury: We will provide for them and for you. Killing them is indeed a great iniquity.
32
وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا۟ ٱلزِّنَىٰٓ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فَـٰحِشَةً وَسَآءَ سَبِيلًا walā taqrabuz zinā ۖ innahu kāna fāḥishatan wasā-a sabīlā Do not approach fornication. It is indeed an indecency and an evil way.
33
وَلَا تَقْتُلُوا۟ ٱلنَّفْسَ ٱلَّتِى حَرَّمَ ٱللَّهُ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَمَن قُتِلَ مَظْلُومًا فَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا لِوَلِيِّهِۦ سُلْطَـٰنًا فَلَا يُسْرِف فِّى ٱلْقَتْلِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مَنصُورًا walā taqtulun nafsal latī ḥarramallāhu illā bil ḥaqq ۗ wa man qutila maẓlūman faqad ja`alnā liwaliyyihi sulṭānan falā yusrif fil qatl ۖ innahu kāna manṣūrā Do not kill a soul [whose life] Allah has made inviolable, except with due cause, and whoever is killed wrongfully, We have certainly given his heir an authority. But let him not commit any excess in killing [the murderer], for he has been assisted [by law].
34
وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا۟ مَالَ ٱلْيَتِيمِ إِلَّا بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ حَتَّىٰ يَبْلُغَ أَشُدَّهُۥ ۚ وَأَوْفُوا۟ بِٱلْعَهْدِ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلْعَهْدَ كَانَ مَسْـُٔولًا walā taqrabū mālal-yatīmi illā bil latī hiya aḥsanu ḥattā yablugha ashuddah ۚ wa-awfū bil `ahd ۖ innal `ahda kāna mas-ūlā Do not approach the orphan’s property except in the best manner, until he comes of age. Fulfill the covenants; indeed all covenants are accountable.
35
وَأَوْفُوا۟ ٱلْكَيْلَ إِذَا كِلْتُمْ وَزِنُوا۟ بِٱلْقِسْطَاسِ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلًا wa-awful kayla idhā kiltum wazinū bil qisṭāsil mustaqīm ۚ dhālika khayrun wa-aḥsanu ta-wīlā When you measure, observe fully the measure, [and] weigh with an even balance. That is better and more favourable with respect to the outcome [in the Hereafter].
36
وَلَا تَقْفُ مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْبَصَرَ وَٱلْفُؤَادَ كُلُّ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ كَانَ عَنْهُ مَسْـُٔولًا walā taqfu mā laysa laka bihi `il-m ۚ innas sam`a wal baṣara wal fu-āda kullu ulā-ika kāna `anhu mas-ūlā Do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed hearing, eyesight, and the heart—all of these are accountable.
37
وَلَا تَمْشِ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَرَحًا ۖ إِنَّكَ لَن تَخْرِقَ ٱلْأَرْضَ وَلَن تَبْلُغَ ٱلْجِبَالَ طُولًا walā tamshi fil-arḍi maraḥā ۖ innaka lan takhriqal-arḍa walan tablughal jibāla ṭūlā Do not walk exultantly on the earth. Indeed, you will neither pierce the earth, nor reach the mountains in height.
38
كُلُّ ذَٰلِكَ كَانَ سَيِّئُهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّكَ مَكْرُوهًا kullu dhālika kāna sayyi-uhu `inda rabbika makrūhā The evil of all these is detestable to your Lord.
39
ذَٰلِكَ مِمَّآ أَوْحَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ رَبُّكَ مِنَ ٱلْحِكْمَةِ ۗ وَلَا تَجْعَلْ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَتُلْقَىٰ فِى جَهَنَّمَ مَلُومًا مَّدْحُورًا dhālika mimmā awḥā ilayka rabbuka minal ḥikmah ۗ walā taj`al ma`allāhi ilāhan ākhara fatulqā fī jahannama malūman mad-ḥūrā These are among [precepts] that your Lord has revealed to you of wisdom. Do not set up another god besides Allah, or you will be cast into hell, being blameworthy and banished [from His mercy].
40
أَفَأَصْفَىٰكُمْ رَبُّكُم بِٱلْبَنِينَ وَٱتَّخَذَ مِنَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِنَـٰثًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ لَتَقُولُونَ قَوْلًا عَظِيمًا afa-aṣfākum rabbukum bil banīna wattakhadha minal malā-ikati ināthā ۚ innakum lataqūlūna qawlan `aẓīmā Did your Lord prefer you for sons, and [Himself] adopt females from among the angels? Indeed, you say a monstrous word!
41
وَلَقَدْ صَرَّفْنَا فِى هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانِ لِيَذَّكَّرُوا۟ وَمَا يَزِيدُهُمْ إِلَّا نُفُورًا walaqad ṣarrafnā fī hādhal qur-āni liyadhhakkarū wa mā yazīduhum illā nufūrā Certainly We have variously paraphrased [the principles of guidance] in this Quran so that they may take admonition, but it increases them only in aversion.
42
قُل لَّوْ كَانَ مَعَهُۥٓ ءَالِهَةٌ كَمَا يَقُولُونَ إِذًا لَّٱبْتَغَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ ذِى ٱلْعَرْشِ سَبِيلًا qul law kāna ma`ahu ālihatun kamā yaqūlūna idhal labtaghaw ilā dhil `arshi sabīlā Say, ‘Were there [other] gods besides Him, as they say, they would surely have encroached on the Lord of the Throne.
43
سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يَقُولُونَ عُلُوًّا كَبِيرًا subḥānahu wata`ālā `ammā yaqūlūna `uluwwan kabīrā Immaculate is He, and greatly exalted above what they say!’
44
تُسَبِّحُ لَهُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ ٱلسَّبْعُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّ ۚ وَإِن مِّن شَىْءٍ إِلَّا يُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِهِۦ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تَفْقَهُونَ تَسْبِيحَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ حَلِيمًا غَفُورًا tusabbiḥu lahus samāwātus sab`u wal-arḍu wa man fīhinn ۚ wa in min shay-in illā yusabbiḥu biḥamdihi walākin lā tafqahūna tasbīḥahum ۗ innahu kāna ḥalīman ghafūrā The seven heavens glorify Him, and the earth [too], and whoever is in them. There is not a thing but celebrates His praise, but you do not understand their glorification. Indeed, He is all-forbearing, all-forgiving.
45
وَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ جَعَلْنَا بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ حِجَابًا مَّسْتُورًا wa idhā qara-tal qur-āna ja`alnā baynaka wabaynal ladhīna lā yu-minūna bil-ākhirati ḥijāban mastūrā When you recite the Quran, We draw a hidden curtain between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter,
46
وَجَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ أَكِنَّةً أَن يَفْقَهُوهُ وَفِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًا ۚ وَإِذَا ذَكَرْتَ رَبَّكَ فِى ٱلْقُرْءَانِ وَحْدَهُۥ وَلَّوْا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَدْبَـٰرِهِمْ نُفُورًا waja`alnā `alā qulūbihim akinnatan an yafqahūhu wafī ādhānihim waqrā ۚ wa idhā dhakarta rabbaka fil qur-āni waḥdahu wallaw `alā adbārihim nufūrā and We cast veils on their hearts, lest they should understand it, and a deafness into their ears. When you mention your Lord alone in the Quran, they turn their backs in aversion.
47
نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَسْتَمِعُونَ بِهِۦٓ إِذْ يَسْتَمِعُونَ إِلَيْكَ وَإِذْ هُمْ نَجْوَىٰٓ إِذْ يَقُولُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ إِن تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا رَجُلًا مَّسْحُورًا naḥnu a`lamu bimā yastami`ūna bihi idh yastami`ūna ilayka wa idh hum najwā idh yaqūluẓ ẓālimūna in tattabi`ūna illā rajulan mas-ḥūrā We know best what they listen for, when they listen to you, and when they hold their secret talks, when the wrongdoers say, ‘[If you follow him] You will be following just a bewitched man.’
48
ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ ضَرَبُوا۟ لَكَ ٱلْأَمْثَالَ فَضَلُّوا۟ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ سَبِيلًا un-ẓur kayfa ḍarabū lakal-amthāla faḍallū falā yastaṭī`ūna sabīlā Look, how they coin epithets for you; so they go astray, and cannot find a way.
49
وَقَالُوٓا۟ أَءِذَا كُنَّا عِظَـٰمًا وَرُفَـٰتًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ خَلْقًا جَدِيدًا waqālū a-idhā kunnā `iẓāman warufātan a-innā lamab`ūthūna khalqan jadīdā They say, ‘What, when we have become bones and dust, shall we really be raised in a new creation?’
50
قُلْ كُونُوا۟ حِجَارَةً أَوْ حَدِيدًا qul kūnū ḥijāratan aw ḥadīdā Say, ‘[That is bound to happen] even if you should become stones, or iron,
51
أَوْ خَلْقًا مِّمَّا يَكْبُرُ فِى صُدُورِكُمْ ۚ فَسَيَقُولُونَ مَن يُعِيدُنَا ۖ قُلِ ٱلَّذِى فَطَرَكُمْ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ۚ فَسَيُنْغِضُونَ إِلَيْكَ رُءُوسَهُمْ وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هُوَ ۖ قُلْ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ قَرِيبًا aw khalqan mimmā yakburu fī ṣudūrikum ۚ fasayaqūlūna man yu`īdunā ۖ qulil ladhī faṭarakum awwala marrah ۚ fasayunghiḍūna ilayka ru-ūsahum wayaqūlūna matā huw ۖ qul `asā an yakūna qarībā or a creature more fantastic to your minds!’ They will say, ‘Who will bring us back?’ Say, ‘He who originated you the first time.’ They will nod their heads at you, and say, ‘When will that be?’ Say, ‘Maybe it is near!
52
يَوْمَ يَدْعُوكُمْ فَتَسْتَجِيبُونَ بِحَمْدِهِۦ وَتَظُنُّونَ إِن لَّبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا yawma yad`ūkum fatastajībūna biḥamdihi wataẓunnūna in labithtum illā qalīlā The day He calls you, you will respond to Him, praising Him, and you will think you remained [in the world] only for a little while.’
53
وَقُل لِّعِبَادِى يَقُولُوا۟ ٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ يَنزَغُ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ كَانَ لِلْإِنسَـٰنِ عَدُوًّا مُّبِينًا waqul li`ibādī yaqūlul latī hiya aḥsan ۚ innash shayṭāna yanzaghu baynahum ۚ innash shayṭāna kāna lilinsāni `aduwwan mubīnā Tell My servants to speak in a manner which is the best. Indeed Satan incites ill feeling between them, and Satan is indeed man’s manifest enemy.
54
رَّبُّكُمْ أَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ ۖ إِن يَشَأْ يَرْحَمْكُمْ أَوْ إِن يَشَأْ يُعَذِّبْكُمْ ۚ وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَـٰكَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكِيلًا rabbukum a`lamu bikum ۖ in yasha-yarḥamkum aw in yasha-yu`adhhibkum ۚ wa mā arsalnāka `alayhim wakīlā Your Lord knows you best. He will have mercy on you if He wishes, or punish you, if He wishes, and We did not send you to watch over them.
55
وَرَبُّكَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ وَلَقَدْ فَضَّلْنَا بَعْضَ ٱلنَّبِيِّـۧنَ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۖ وَءَاتَيْنَا دَاوُۥدَ زَبُورًا warabbuka a`lamu biman fis samāwāti wal-arḍ ۗ walaqad faḍḍalnā ba`ḍan nabiyyīna `alā ba`ḍ ۖ wa-ātaynā dāwūda zabūrā Your Lord knows best whoever is in the heavens and the earth. Certainly, We gave some prophets an advantage over the others, and We gave David the Psalms.
56
قُلِ ٱدْعُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ زَعَمْتُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ فَلَا يَمْلِكُونَ كَشْفَ ٱلضُّرِّ عَنكُمْ وَلَا تَحْوِيلًا qulid-`ul ladhīna za`amtum min dūnihi falā yamlikūna kashfaḍ ḍurri `ankum walā taḥwylā Say, ‘Invoke those whom you claim [to be gods] besides Him. They have no power to remove your distress, nor to bring about any change [in your state].
57
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ يَبْتَغُونَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمُ ٱلْوَسِيلَةَ أَيُّهُمْ أَقْرَبُ وَيَرْجُونَ رَحْمَتَهُۥ وَيَخَافُونَ عَذَابَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّكَ كَانَ مَحْذُورًا ulā-ikal ladhīna yad`ūna yabtaghūna ilā rabbihimul wasīlata ayyuhum aqrabu wayarjūna raḥmatahu wayakhāfūna `adhābah ۚ inna `adhāba rabbika kāna maḥdhūrā They [themselves] are the ones who supplicate, seeking a recourse to their Lord, whoever is nearer [to Him], expecting His mercy and fearing His punishment.’ Indeed your Lord’s punishment is a thing to beware of.
58
وَإِن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا نَحْنُ مُهْلِكُوهَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ أَوْ مُعَذِّبُوهَا عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا ۚ كَانَ ذَٰلِكَ فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ مَسْطُورًا wa in min qaryatin illā naḥnu muhlikūhā qabla yawmil qiyāmati aw mu`adhhibūhā `adhāban shadīdā ۚ kāna dhālika fil kitābi masṭūrā There is not a town but We will destroy it before the Day of Resurrection, or punish it with a severe punishment. That has been written in the Book.
59
وَمَا مَنَعَنَآ أَن نُّرْسِلَ بِٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ إِلَّآ أَن كَذَّبَ بِهَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ ۚ وَءَاتَيْنَا ثَمُودَ ٱلنَّاقَةَ مُبْصِرَةً فَظَلَمُوا۟ بِهَا ۚ وَمَا نُرْسِلُ بِٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ إِلَّا تَخْوِيفًا wa mā mana`anā an nursila bil-āyāti illā an kadhhaba bihal-awwalūn ۚ wa-ātaynā thamūdan nāqata mubṣiratan faẓalamū bihā ۚ wa mā nursilu bil-āyāti illā takhwyfā Nothing keeps Us from sending signs except that the former peoples denied them. We gave Thamud the she-camel as an eye-opener, but they wronged her. We do not send the signs except as warning.
60
وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لَكَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ أَحَاطَ بِٱلنَّاسِ ۚ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا ٱلرُّءْيَا ٱلَّتِىٓ أَرَيْنَـٰكَ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِّلنَّاسِ وَٱلشَّجَرَةَ ٱلْمَلْعُونَةَ فِى ٱلْقُرْءَانِ ۚ وَنُخَوِّفُهُمْ فَمَا يَزِيدُهُمْ إِلَّا طُغْيَـٰنًا كَبِيرًا wa idh qulnā laka inna rabbaka aḥāṭa bin nās ۚ wa mā ja`alnar ru-yal latī araynāka illā fitnatan linnāsi wash shajaratal mal`ūnata fil qur-ān ۚ wanukhawwifuhum famā yazīduhum illā ṭughyānan kabīrā When We said to you, ‘Indeed your Lord encircles those people,’ We did not appoint the vision that We showed you except as a tribulation for the people and the tree cursed in the Quran. We warn them, but it only increases them in their outrageous rebellion.
61
وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِـَٔادَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ قَالَ ءَأَسْجُدُ لِمَنْ خَلَقْتَ طِينًا wa idh qulnā lil-malā-ikatis-judū li-ādama fasajadū illā iblīsa qāla a-asjudu liman khalaqta ṭīnā When We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate before Adam,’ they [all] prostrated, but not Iblis: he said, ‘Shall I prostrate before someone whom You have created from clay?’
62
قَالَ أَرَءَيْتَكَ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كَرَّمْتَ عَلَىَّ لَئِنْ أَخَّرْتَنِ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ لَأَحْتَنِكَنَّ ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥٓ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا qāla ara aytaka hādhal ladhī karramta `alayya la-in akhhartani ilā yawmil qiyāmati la-aḥtanikanna dhurriyyatahu illā qalīlā Said he, ‘Do You see this one whom You have honoured above me? If You respite me until the Day of Resurrection, I will surely lay my yoke on his progeny, [all] except a few.’
63
قَالَ ٱذْهَبْ فَمَن تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ فَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ جَزَآؤُكُمْ جَزَآءً مَّوْفُورًا qāladh-hab faman tabi`aka minhum fa-inna jahannama jazā-ukum jazā-an mawfūrā Said He, ‘Begone! Whoever of them follows you, indeed the hell shall be your requital, an ample reward.
64
وَٱسْتَفْزِزْ مَنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتَ مِنْهُم بِصَوْتِكَ وَأَجْلِبْ عَلَيْهِم بِخَيْلِكَ وَرَجِلِكَ وَشَارِكْهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَمْوَٰلِ وَٱلْأَوْلَـٰدِ وَعِدْهُمْ ۚ وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ إِلَّا غُرُورًا wastafziz manis-taṭa`ta minhum biṣawtika wa-ajlib `alayhim bikhaylika warajilika washārik-hum fil-amwāli wal-awlādi wa`id-hum ۚ wa mā ya`iduhumush shayṭānu illā ghurūrā Instigate whomever of them you can with your voice; and rally against them your cavalry and your infantry, and share with them in wealth and children, and make promises to them!’ But Satan promises them nothing but delusion.
65
إِنَّ عِبَادِى لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَـٰنٌ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِرَبِّكَ وَكِيلًا inna `ibādī laysa laka `alayhim sulṭān ۚ wakafā birabbika wakīlā ‘As for My servants, you shall have no authority over them.’ And your Lord suffices as trustee.
66
رَّبُّكُمُ ٱلَّذِى يُزْجِى لَكُمُ ٱلْفُلْكَ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ لِتَبْتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضْلِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ بِكُمْ رَحِيمًا rabbukumul ladhī yuzjī lakumul fulka fil baḥri litabtaghū min faḍlih ۚ innahu kāna bikum raḥīmā Your Lord is He who drives for you the ships in the sea that you may seek of His bounty. Indeed, He is most merciful to you.
67
وَإِذَا مَسَّكُمُ ٱلضُّرُّ فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ ضَلَّ مَن تَدْعُونَ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُ ۖ فَلَمَّا نَجَّىٰكُمْ إِلَى ٱلْبَرِّ أَعْرَضْتُمْ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ كَفُورًا wa idhā massakumuḍ ḍurru fil baḥri ḍalla man tad`ūna illā iyyāh ۖ falammā najjākum ilal-barri a`raḍtum ۚ wakānal-insānu kafūrā When distress befalls you at sea, those whom you invoke besides Him are forsaken. But when He delivers you to land, you are disregardful [of Him]. Man is very ungrateful.
68
أَفَأَمِنتُمْ أَن يَخْسِفَ بِكُمْ جَانِبَ ٱلْبَرِّ أَوْ يُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَاصِبًا ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُوا۟ لَكُمْ وَكِيلًا afa-amintum an yakhsifa bikum jānibal barri aw yursila `alaykum ḥāṣiban thumma lā tajidū lakum wakīlā Do you feel secure that He will not make the coastland swallow you, or He will not unleash upon you a rain of stones? Then you will not find any defender for yourselves.
69
أَمْ أَمِنتُمْ أَن يُعِيدَكُمْ فِيهِ تَارَةً أُخْرَىٰ فَيُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ قَاصِفًا مِّنَ ٱلرِّيحِ فَيُغْرِقَكُم بِمَا كَفَرْتُمْ ۙ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُوا۟ لَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا بِهِۦ تَبِيعًا am amintum an yu`īdakum fīhi tāratan ukhrā fayursila `alaykum qāṣifan minar rīḥi fayughriqakum bimā kafartum thumma lā tajidū lakum `alaynā bihi tabī`ā Do you feel secure that He will not send you back into it another time and unleash against you a shattering gale and drown you because of your unfaith? Then you will not find for yourselves any redresser against Us.
70
وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْبَرِّ وَٱلْبَحْرِ وَرَزَقْنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ وَفَضَّلْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ كَثِيرٍ مِّمَّنْ خَلَقْنَا تَفْضِيلًا walaqad karramnā banī ādama waḥamalnāhum fil barri wal baḥri warazaqnāhum minaṭ ṭayyibāti wafaḍḍalnāhum `alā kathīrin mimman khalaqnā tafḍīlā Certainly We have honoured the Children of Adam, and carried them over land and sea, and provided them with all the good things, and preferred them with a complete preference over many of those We have created.
71
يَوْمَ نَدْعُوا۟ كُلَّ أُنَاسٍۭ بِإِمَـٰمِهِمْ ۖ فَمَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَقْرَءُونَ كِتَـٰبَهُمْ وَلَا يُظْلَمُونَ فَتِيلًا yawma nad`ū kulla unāsin bi-imāmihim ۖ faman ūtiya kitābahu biyamīnihi fa-ulā-ika yaqra-ūna kitābahum walā yuẓlamūna fatīlā The day We shall summon every group of people along with their imam, then whoever is given his book in his right hand—they will read it, and they will not be wronged so much as a single date-thread.
72
وَمَن كَانَ فِى هَـٰذِهِۦٓ أَعْمَىٰ فَهُوَ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَعْمَىٰ وَأَضَلُّ سَبِيلًا wa man kāna fī hādhihi a`mā fahuwa fil-ākhirati a`mā wa-aḍallu sabīlā But whoever has been blind in this [world], will be blind in the Hereafter, and [even] more astray from the [right] way.
73
وَإِن كَادُوا۟ لَيَفْتِنُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ لِتَفْتَرِىَ عَلَيْنَا غَيْرَهُۥ ۖ وَإِذًا لَّٱتَّخَذُوكَ خَلِيلًا wa in kādū layaftinūnaka `anil ladhī awḥaynā ilayka litaftariya `alaynā ghayrah ۖ wa idhal lattakhadhūka khalīlā They were about to beguile you from what Allah has revealed to you so that you may fabricate something other than that against Us, whereat they would have befriended you.
74
وَلَوْلَآ أَن ثَبَّتْنَـٰكَ لَقَدْ كِدتَّ تَرْكَنُ إِلَيْهِمْ شَيْـًٔا قَلِيلًا walawlā an thabbatnāka laqad kidta tarkanu ilayhim shay-an qalīlā And had We not fortified you, certainly you might have inclined toward them a bit.
75
إِذًا لَّأَذَقْنَـٰكَ ضِعْفَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ وَضِعْفَ ٱلْمَمَاتِ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُ لَكَ عَلَيْنَا نَصِيرًا idhal la-adhaqnāka ḍi`fal ḥayāti waḍi`fal mamāti thumma lā tajidu laka `alaynā naṣīrā Then We would have surely made you taste a double [punishment] in this life and a double [punishment] after death, and then you would have not found for yourself any helper against Us.
76
وَإِن كَادُوا۟ لَيَسْتَفِزُّونَكَ مِنَ ٱلْأَرْضِ لِيُخْرِجُوكَ مِنْهَا ۖ وَإِذًا لَّا يَلْبَثُونَ خِلَـٰفَكَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا wa in kādū layastafizzūnaka minal-arḍi liyukhrijūka minhā ۖ wa idhal lā yalbathūna khilāfaka illā qalīlā They were about to hound you out of the land, to expel you from it, but then they would not have stayed after you but a little.
77
سُنَّةَ مَن قَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا قَبْلَكَ مِن رُّسُلِنَا ۖ وَلَا تَجِدُ لِسُنَّتِنَا تَحْوِيلًا sunnata man qad arsalnā qablaka min rusulinā ۖ walā tajidu lisunnatinā taḥwylā A precedent concerning those We have sent before you from among Our apostles, and you will not find any change in Our precedent.
78
أَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ لِدُلُوكِ ٱلشَّمْسِ إِلَىٰ غَسَقِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَقُرْءَانَ ٱلْفَجْرِ ۖ إِنَّ قُرْءَانَ ٱلْفَجْرِ كَانَ مَشْهُودًا aqimiṣ ṣalāta lidulūkish shamsi ilā ghasaqil layli waqur-ānal fajr ۖ inna qur-ānal fajri kāna mash-hūdā Maintain the prayer [during the period] from the sun’s decline till the darkness of the night, and [observe particularly] the dawn recital. Indeed the dawn recital is attended [by angels].
79
وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَتَهَجَّدْ بِهِۦ نَافِلَةً لَّكَ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَبْعَثَكَ رَبُّكَ مَقَامًا مَّحْمُودًا wa minal layli fatahajjad bihi nāfilatan laka `asā an yab`athaka rabbuka maqāman maḥmūdā And keep vigil for a part of the night, as a supererogatory [devotion] for you. It may be that your Lord will raise you to a praiseworthy station.
80
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَدْخِلْنِى مُدْخَلَ صِدْقٍ وَأَخْرِجْنِى مُخْرَجَ صِدْقٍ وَٱجْعَل لِّى مِن لَّدُنكَ سُلْطَـٰنًا نَّصِيرًا waqul rabbi adkhilnī mudkhala ṣidqin wa-akhrijnī mukhraja ṣidqin waj`al lī min ladunka sulṭānan naṣīrā And say, ‘My Lord! ‘Admit me with a worthy entrance, and bring me out with a worthy departure, and render me a favourable authority from Yourself.’
81
وَقُلْ جَآءَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَزَهَقَ ٱلْبَـٰطِلُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلْبَـٰطِلَ كَانَ زَهُوقًا waqul jā-al ḥaqqu wazahaqal bāṭil ۚ innal bāṭila kāna zahūqā And say, ‘The truth has come, and falsehood has vanished. Indeed falsehood is bound to vanish.’
82
وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَا هُوَ شِفَآءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۙ وَلَا يَزِيدُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ إِلَّا خَسَارًا wanunazzilu minal qur-āni mā huwa shifā-un waraḥmatun lil-mu-minīna walā yazīduẓ ẓālimīna illā khasārā We send down in the Quran that which is a cure and mercy for the faithful; and it increases the wrongdoers only in loss.
83
وَإِذَآ أَنْعَمْنَا عَلَى ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِ أَعْرَضَ وَنَـَٔا بِجَانِبِهِۦ ۖ وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ ٱلشَّرُّ كَانَ يَـُٔوسًا wa idhā an`amnā `alal-insāni a`raḍa wana-ā bijānibih ۖ wa idhā massahush sharru kāna ya-ūsā When We bless man, he is disregardful and turns aside; but when an ill befalls him, he is despondent.
84

85

Say, ‘The Spirit is of the command of my Lord, and you have not been given of the knowledge except a few [of you].’
86
وَلَئِن شِئْنَا لَنَذْهَبَنَّ بِٱلَّذِىٓ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ثُمَّ لَا تَجِدُ لَكَ بِهِۦ عَلَيْنَا وَكِيلًا wala-in shi-nā lanadh-habanna bil ladhī awḥaynā ilayka thumma lā tajidu laka bihi `alaynā wakīlā If We wish, We would take away what We have revealed to you. Then you would not find for yourself any defender against Us,
87

On the Day of Resurrection, We shall muster them [scrambling] on their faces, blind, dumb, and deaf. Their refuge shall be hell. Whenever it subsides, We shall intensify the blaze for them.

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ قَادِرٌ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يَخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُمْ وَجَعَلَ لَهُمْ أَجَلًا لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهِ فَأَبَى ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ إِلَّا كُفُورًا awalam yaraw annallāhal ladhī khalaqas samāwāti wal-arḍa qādirun `alā an yakhluqa mithlahum waja`ala lahum ajalal lā rayba fīhi fa-abaẓ ẓālimūna illā kufūrā Do they not see that Allah, who created the heavens and the earth, is able to create the like of them? He has appointed for them a term, in which there is no doubt; yet the wrongdoers are only intent on ingratitude.

So ask the Children of Israel. When he came to them, Pharaoh said to him, ‘O Moses, indeed I think you are bewitched.’
