بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
أَتَىٰٓ أَمْرُ ٱللَّهِ فَلَا تَسْتَعْجِلُوهُ ۚ سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ atā amrullāhi falā tasta`jilūh ۚ subḥānahu wata`ālā `ammā yushrikūn Allah’s edict is coming! So do not seek to hasten it. Immaculate is He and exalted above [having] any partners that they ascribe [to Him].
2
يُنَزِّلُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ بِٱلرُّوحِ مِنْ أَمْرِهِۦ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦٓ أَنْ أَنذِرُوٓا۟ أَنَّهُۥ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنَا۠ فَٱتَّقُونِ yunazzilul malā-ikata bir rūḥi min amrihi `alā man yashā-u min `ibādihi an andhirū annahu lā ilāha illā ana fattaqūn He sends down the angels with the spirit of His command to whomever He wishes of His servants: ‘Warn [the people] that there is no god except Me; so be wary of Me.’
3
خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ تَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ khalaqas samāwāti wal-arḍa bil ḥaqq ۚ ta`ālā `ammā yushrikūn He created the heavens and the earth with consummate wisdom. He is above having any partners that they ascribe [to Him].
4
خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِيمٌ مُّبِينٌ khalaqal-insāna min nuṭfatin fa-idhā huwa khaṣīmun mubīn He created man from a drop of [seminal] fluid, and, behold, he is an open contender!
5
وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمَ خَلَقَهَا ۗ لَكُمْ فِيهَا دِفْءٌ وَمَنَـٰفِعُ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ wal-an`āma khalaqahā ۗ lakum fīhā dif-un wa manāfi`u wa minhā ta-kulūn He created the cattle, in which there is warmth for you and [other] uses, and some of them you eat.
6
وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا جَمَالٌ حِينَ تُرِيحُونَ وَحِينَ تَسْرَحُونَ walakum fīhā jamālun ḥīna turīḥūna waḥīna tasraḥūn There is in them a beauty for you when you bring them home for rest and when you drive them forth to pasture.
7
وَتَحْمِلُ أَثْقَالَكُمْ إِلَىٰ بَلَدٍ لَّمْ تَكُونُوا۟ بَـٰلِغِيهِ إِلَّا بِشِقِّ ٱلْأَنفُسِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ لَرَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ wataḥmilu athqālakum ilā baladin lam takūnū bālighīhi illā bishiqqil-anfus ۚ inna rabbakum lara-ūfun raḥīm And they bear your burdens to towns, which you could not reach except by straining yourselves. Indeed your Lord is most kind and merciful.
8
وَٱلْخَيْلَ وَٱلْبِغَالَ وَٱلْحَمِيرَ لِتَرْكَبُوهَا وَزِينَةً ۚ وَيَخْلُقُ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ wal khayla wal bighāla wal ḥamīra litarkabūhā wazīnah ۚ wayakhluqu mā lā ta`lamūn And horses, mules and asses, for you to ride them, and for pomp, and He creates what you do not know.
9
وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ قَصْدُ ٱلسَّبِيلِ وَمِنْهَا جَآئِرٌ ۚ وَلَوْ شَآءَ لَهَدَىٰكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ wa`alallāhi qaṣdus sabīli wa minhā jā-ir ۚ walaw shā-a lahadākum ajma`īn With Allah rests guidance to the straight path, and some of the paths are devious, and had He wished He would have guided you all.
10
هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً ۖ لَّكُم مِّنْهُ شَرَابٌ وَمِنْهُ شَجَرٌ فِيهِ تُسِيمُونَ huwal ladhī anzala minas samā-i mā-ā ۖ lakum minhu sharābun wa minhu shajarun fīhi tusīmūn It is He who sends down water from the sky: from it you get your drink and with it are [sustained] the plants wherein you pasture your herds.
11
يُنۢبِتُ لَكُم بِهِ ٱلزَّرْعَ وَٱلزَّيْتُونَ وَٱلنَّخِيلَ وَٱلْأَعْنَـٰبَ وَمِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ yunbitu lakum bihiz zar`a waz zaytūna wan nakhīla wal-a`nāba wa min kullith thamarāt ۗ inna fī dhālika la-āyatan liqawmiy yatafakkarūn For you He makes the crops grow with it and olives, date palms, vines, and fruits of all kinds. There is indeed a sign in that for a people who reflect.
12
وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ وَٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ ۖ وَٱلنُّجُومُ مُسَخَّرَٰتٌۢ بِأَمْرِهِۦٓ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ wasakhhara lakumul layla wan nahāra wash shamsa wal qamar ۖ wan nujūmu musakhharātun bi-amrih ۗ inna fī dhālika la-āyātin liqawmiy ya`qilūn He disposed the night and the day for you, and the sun, the moon and the stars are disposed by His command. There are indeed signs in that for people who exercise their reason.
13
وَمَا ذَرَأَ لَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُخْتَلِفًا أَلْوَٰنُهُۥٓ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَذَّكَّرُونَ wa mā dhara-a lakum fil-arḍi mukhtalifan alwānuh ۗ inna fī dhālika la-āyatan liqawmiy yadhhakkarūn And [He disposed for your benefit] whatever He has created for you in the earth of diverse hues—there is indeed a sign in that for a people who take admonition.
14
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى سَخَّرَ ٱلْبَحْرَ لِتَأْكُلُوا۟ مِنْهُ لَحْمًا طَرِيًّا وَتَسْتَخْرِجُوا۟ مِنْهُ حِلْيَةً تَلْبَسُونَهَا وَتَرَى ٱلْفُلْكَ مَوَاخِرَ فِيهِ وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ wahuwal ladhī sakhharal baḥra lita-kulū minhu laḥman ṭariyyan watastakhrijū minhu ḥilyatan talbasūnahā wataral fulka mawākhira fīhi walitabtaghū min faḍlihi wala`allakum tashkurūn It is He who disposed the sea [for your benefit] that you may eat from it fresh meat, and obtain from it ornaments which you wear, and you see the ships plowing through it, that you may seek His bounty and that you may give thanks.
15
وَأَلْقَىٰ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ رَوَٰسِىَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِكُمْ وَأَنْهَـٰرًا وَسُبُلًا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَهْتَدُونَ wa-alqā fil-arḍi rawāsiya an tamīda bikum wa-anhāran wasubulal la`allakum tahtadūn He cast firm mountains in the earth lest it should shake with you, and [made] streams and ways, so that you may be guided
16
وَعَلَـٰمَـٰتٍ ۚ وَبِٱلنَّجْمِ هُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ wa`alāmāt ۚ wabin najmi hum yahtadūn —and the landmarks [as well]—and by the stars they are guided.
17
أَفَمَن يَخْلُقُ كَمَن لَّا يَخْلُقُ ۗ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ afaman yakhluqu kaman lā yakhluq ۗ afalā tadhakkarūn Is He who creates like one who does not create? Will you not then take admonition?
18
وَإِن تَعُدُّوا۟ نِعْمَةَ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُحْصُوهَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ wa in ta`uddū ni`matallāhi lā tuḥṣūhā ۗ innallāha laghafūrun raḥīm If you enumerate Allah’s blessings, you will not be able to count them. Indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful,
19
وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تُسِرُّونَ وَمَا تُعْلِنُونَ wallāhu ya`lamu mā tusirrūna wa mā tu`linūn and Allah knows whatever you hide and whatever you disclose.
20
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَا يَخْلُقُونَ شَيْـًٔا وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ wal ladhīna yad`ūna min dūnillāhi lā yakhluqūna shay-an wahum yukhlaqūn Those whom they invoke besides Allah do not create anything and are themselves created.
21
أَمْوَٰتٌ غَيْرُ أَحْيَآءٍ ۖ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ أَيَّانَ يُبْعَثُونَ amwātun ghayru aḥyā-i ۖ wa mā yash`urūna ayyāna yub`athūn They are dead and lifeless, and are not aware when they will be resurrected.
22
إِلَـٰهُكُمْ إِلَـٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌ ۚ فَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ قُلُوبُهُم مُّنكِرَةٌ وَهُم مُّسْتَكْبِرُونَ ilāhukum ilāhun wāḥid ۚ fal ladhīna lā yu-minūna bil-ākhirati qulūbuhum munkiratun wahum mustakbirūn Your God is the One God. Those who do not believe in the Hereafter, their hearts are in denial [of the truth], and they are arrogant.
23
لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُسْتَكْبِرِينَ lā jarama annallāha ya`lamu mā yusirrūna wa mā yu`linūn ۚ innahu lā yuḥibbul mustakbirīn Undoubtedly, Allah knows whatever they hide and whatever they disclose. Indeed, He does not like the arrogant.
24
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُم مَّاذَآ أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمْ ۙ قَالُوٓا۟ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ wa idhā qīla lahum mādhā anzala rabbukum qālū asāṭīrul-awwalīn When they are asked, ‘What is it that your Lord has sent down?’ They say, ‘Myths of the ancients,’
25
لِيَحْمِلُوٓا۟ أَوْزَارَهُمْ كَامِلَةً يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۙ وَمِنْ أَوْزَارِ ٱلَّذِينَ يُضِلُّونَهُم بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ ۗ أَلَا سَآءَ مَا يَزِرُونَ liyaḥmilū awzārahum kāmilatan yawmal qiyāmati wa min awzāril ladhīna yuḍillūnahum bighayri `il-m ۗ alā sā-a mā yazirūn [with the result] that they will bear the full weight of their own burden on the Day of Resurrection, along with part of the burden of those whom they mislead without any knowledge. Behold! Evil is what they bear!
26
قَدْ مَكَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَأَتَى ٱللَّهُ بُنْيَـٰنَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقَوَاعِدِ فَخَرَّ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّقْفُ مِن فَوْقِهِمْ وَأَتَىٰهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ qad makaral ladhīna min qablihim fa-atallāhu bunyānahum minal qawā`idi fakharra `alayhimus saqfu min fawqihim wa-atāhumul `adhābu min ḥaythu lā yash`urūn Those who were before them [had also] schemed. Then Allah came at their edifice from the foundations and the roof fell down upon them from above and the punishment overtook them whence they were not aware.
27
ثُمَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ يُخْزِيهِمْ وَيَقُولُ أَيْنَ شُرَكَآءِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ كُنتُمْ تُشَـٰٓقُّونَ فِيهِمْ ۚ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ إِنَّ ٱلْخِزْىَ ٱلْيَوْمَ وَٱلسُّوٓءَ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ thumma yawmal qiyāmati yukhzīhim wayaqūlu ayna shurakā-iyal ladhīna kuntum tushāqqūna fīhim ۚ qālal ladhīna ūtul `il-ma innal khizyal yawma was sū a `alal-kāfirīn Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace them, and say, ‘Where are My “partners” for whose sake you used to defy [Allah]?’ Those who were given knowledge will say, ‘Indeed today disgrace and distress pursue the faithless.’
28
ٱلَّذِينَ تَتَوَفَّىٰهُمُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ ظَالِمِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ ۖ فَأَلْقَوُا۟ ٱلسَّلَمَ مَا كُنَّا نَعْمَلُ مِن سُوٓءٍۭ ۚ بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌۢ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ alladhīna tatawaffāhumul malā-ikatu ẓālimī anfusihim ۖ fa-alqawus salama mā kunnā na`malu min sū-ī ۚ balā innallāha `alīmun bimā kuntum ta`malūn —Those whom the angels take away while they were wronging themselves. Thereat they submit: ‘We were not doing any evil!’ ‘Yes, [the angels say to them,] indeed Allah knows best what you used to do!
29
فَٱدْخُلُوٓا۟ أَبْوَٰبَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۖ فَلَبِئْسَ مَثْوَى ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ fadkhulū abwāba jahannama khālidīna fīhā ۖ falabi-sa mathwal mutakabbirīn Enter the gates of hell to remain in it [forever]. Evil is the [final] abode of the arrogant.’
30
وَقِيلَ لِلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا۟ مَاذَآ أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمْ ۚ قَالُوا۟ خَيْرًا ۗ لِّلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ فِى هَـٰذِهِ ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةٌ ۚ وَلَدَارُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ خَيْرٌ ۚ وَلَنِعْمَ دَارُ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ waqīla lilladhīnat-taqaw mādhā anzala rabbukum ۚ qālū khayrā ۗ lilladhīna aḥsanū fī hādhihid dunyā ḥasanah ۚ waladārul-ākhirati khayr ۚ walani`ma dārul muttaqīn But those who were Godwary will be asked, ‘What is it that your Lord has sent down?’ They will say, ‘Good.’ For those who do good in this world there will be a good [reward], and the abode of the Hereafter is better, and the abode of the Godwary is surely excellent:
31
جَنَّـٰتُ عَدْنٍ يَدْخُلُونَهَا تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ لَهُمْ فِيهَا مَا يَشَآءُونَ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَجْزِى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ jannātu `adniy yadkhulūnahā tajrī min taḥtihal-anhār ۖ lahum fīhā mā yashā-ūn ۚ kadhālika yajzillāhul muttaqīn the Gardens of Eden, which they will enter, with streams running in them. There they will have whatever they wish, and thus does Allah reward the Godwary
32
ٱلَّذِينَ تَتَوَفَّىٰهُمُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ طَيِّبِينَ ۙ يَقُولُونَ سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْجَنَّةَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ alladhīna tatawaffāhumul malā-ikatu ṭayyibīna yaqūlūna salāmun `alaykumud-khulul jannata bimā kuntum ta`malūn —those whom the angels take away while they are pure. They say [to them], ‘Peace be to you! Enter paradise because of what you used to do.’
33
هَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن تَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ أَوْ يَأْتِىَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ فَعَلَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ وَمَا ظَلَمَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ hal yanẓurūna illā an ta-tiyahumul malā-ikatu aw ya-tiya amru rabbik ۚ kadhālika fa`alal ladhīna min qablihim ۚ wa mā ẓalamahumullāhu walākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn Do they not consider that the angels may come to them, or your Lord’s edict may come? Those who were before them had acted likewise; Allah did not wrong them, but they used to wrong themselves.
34
فَأَصَابَهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتُ مَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ fa-aṣābahum sayyi-ātu mā `amilū waḥāqa bihim mā kānū bihi yastahzi-ūn So the evils of what they had earned visited them, and they were besieged by what they used to deride.
35
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا۟ لَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مَا عَبَدْنَا مِن دُونِهِۦ مِن شَىْءٍ نَّحْنُ وَلَآ ءَابَآؤُنَا وَلَا حَرَّمْنَا مِن دُونِهِۦ مِن شَىْءٍ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ فَعَلَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ فَهَلْ عَلَى ٱلرُّسُلِ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ waqālal ladhīna ashrakū law shā-allāhu mā `abadnā min dūnihi min shay-in naḥnu walā ābā-unā walā ḥarramnā min dūnihi min shay-ī ۚ kadhālika fa`alal ladhīna min qablihim ۚ fahal `alar rusuli illal-balāghul mubīn The polytheists say, ‘Had Allah wished, we would not have worshiped anything besides Him—neither we, nor our fathers—nor we would have forbidden anything without His sanction.’ Those who were before them had acted likewise. Is the apostles’ duty anything but to communicate in clear terms?
36
وَلَقَدْ بَعَثْنَا فِى كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ رَّسُولًا أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟ ٱلطَّـٰغُوتَ ۖ فَمِنْهُم مَّنْ هَدَى ٱللَّهُ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ حَقَّتْ عَلَيْهِ ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةُ ۚ فَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ walaqad ba`athnā fī kulli ummatin rasūlan ani'-budullāha wajtanibuṭ ṭāghūt ۖ faminhum man hadallāhu wa minhum man ḥaqqat `alayhiḍ ḍalālah ۚ fasīrū fil-arḍi fanẓurū kayfa kāna `āqibatul mukadhhibīn Certainly We raised an apostle in every nation [to preach:] ‘Worship Allah, and shun fake deities.’ Among them were some whom Allah guided, and among them were some who deserved to be in error. So travel over the land and observe how was the fate of the deniers.
37
إِن تَحْرِصْ عَلَىٰ هُدَىٰهُمْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِى مَن يُضِلُّ ۖ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِينَ in taḥriṣ `alā hudāhum fa-innallāha lā yahdī man yuḍill ۖ wa mā lahum min nāṣirīn Even if you are eager for them to be guided, indeed Allah does not guide those who mislead [others], and they will have no helpers.
38
وَأَقْسَمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ جَهْدَ أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ ۙ لَا يَبْعَثُ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَمُوتُ ۚ بَلَىٰ وَعْدًا عَلَيْهِ حَقًّا وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ wa-aqsamū billāhi jahda aymānihim lā yab`athullāhu man yamūt ۚ balā wa`dan `alayhi ḥaqqan walākinna aktharan nāsi lā ya`lamūn They swear by Allah with solemn oaths that Allah will not resurrect those who die. Yes indeed [He will], it is a promise binding upon Him, but most people do not know,
39
لِيُبَيِّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يَخْتَلِفُونَ فِيهِ وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ كَـٰذِبِينَ liyubayyina lahumul ladhī yakhtalifūna fīhi waliya`lamal ladhīna kafarū annahum kānū kādhibīn so that He may clarify for them what they differ about, and that the faithless may know that they were liars.
40
إِنَّمَا قَوْلُنَا لِشَىْءٍ إِذَآ أَرَدْنَـٰهُ أَن نَّقُولَ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ innamā qawlunā lishay-in idhā aradnāhu an naqūla lahu kun fayakūn All that We say to a thing, when We will it, is to say to it ‘Be!’ and it is.
41
وَٱلَّذِينَ هَاجَرُوا۟ فِى ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا ظُلِمُوا۟ لَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُمْ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً ۖ وَلَأَجْرُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ wal ladhīna hājarū fillāhi min ba`di mā ẓulimū lanubawwi-annahum fid dunyā ḥasanah ۖ wala-ajrul-ākhirati akbar ۚ law kānū ya`lamūn Those who migrate for the sake of Allah after they have been wronged, We will surely settle them in a good place in the world, and the reward of the Hereafter is surely greater, had they known
42
ٱلَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا۟ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ alladhīna ṣabarū wa`alā rabbihim yatawakkalūn —those who are patient and who put their trust in their Lord.
43
وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ إِلَّا رِجَالًا نُّوحِىٓ إِلَيْهِمْ ۚ فَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟ أَهْلَ ٱلذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ wa mā arsalnā min qablika illā rijālan nūḥī ilayhim ۚ fas-alū ahladh dhikri in kuntum lā ta`lamūn We did not send [any apostles] before you except as men to whom We revealed. Ask the People of the Reminder if you do not know.
44
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ وَٱلزُّبُرِ ۗ وَأَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ٱلذِّكْرَ لِتُبَيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ bil bayyināti waz zubur ۗ wa-anzalnā ilaykadh dhikra litubayyina linnāsi mā nuzzila ilayhim wala`allahum yatafakkarūn [We sent them] with manifest proofs and scriptures. We have sent down the reminder to you so that you may clarify for the people that which has been sent down to them, so that they may reflect.
45
أَفَأَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مَكَرُوا۟ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ أَن يَخْسِفَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ afa-aminal ladhīna makarus sayyi-āti an yakhsifallāhu bihimul-arḍa aw ya-tiyahumul `adhābu min ḥaythu lā yash`urūn Do those who devise evil schemes feel secure that Allah will not make the earth swallow them, or the punishment will not overtake them whence they are not aware?
46
أَوْ يَأْخُذَهُمْ فِى تَقَلُّبِهِمْ فَمَا هُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ aw ya-khudhahum fī taqallubihim famā hum bimu`jizīn Or that He will not seize them in the midst of their bustle, whereupon they will not be able to frustrate [Him]?
47
أَوْ يَأْخُذَهُمْ عَلَىٰ تَخَوُّفٍ فَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ لَرَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ aw ya-khudhahum `alā takhawwufin fa-inna rabbakum lara-ūfun raḥīm Or that He will not visit them with attrition? Indeed your Lord is most kind and merciful.

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ مَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ مِن شَىْءٍ يَتَفَيَّؤُا۟ ظِلَـٰلُهُۥ عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَٱلشَّمَآئِلِ سُجَّدًا لِّلَّهِ وَهُمْ دَٰخِرُونَ awalam yaraw ilā mā khalaqallāhu min shay-in yatafayya-u ẓilāluhu `anil yamīni wash shamā-ili sujjadal lillāhi wahum dākhirūn Have they not regarded that whatever thing Allah has created casts its shadow to the right and to the left, prostrating to Allah in utter humility?
49
وَلِلَّهِ يَسْجُدُ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِن دَآبَّةٍ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَهُمْ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ walillāhi yasjudu mā fis samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍi min dābbatin wal malā-ikatu wahum lā yastakbirūn To Allah prostrates whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth, including animals and angels, and they are not arrogant.

51
وَقَالَ ٱللَّهُ لَا تَتَّخِذُوٓا۟ إِلَـٰهَيْنِ ٱثْنَيْنِ ۖ إِنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَـٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌ ۖ فَإِيَّـٰىَ فَٱرْهَبُونِ waqālallāhu lā tattakhidhū ilāhaynith-nayn ۖ innamā huwa ilāhun wāḥid ۖ fa-iyyāya farhabūn Allah has said, ‘Do not worship two gods. Indeed He is the One God, so be in awe of Me [alone].’
52
وَلَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَهُ ٱلدِّينُ وَاصِبًا ۚ أَفَغَيْرَ ٱللَّهِ تَتَّقُونَ walahu mā fis samāwāti wal-arḍi walahud dīnu wāṣibā ۚ afaghayrallāhi tattaqūn To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and to Him belongs the enduring religion. Will you, then, be wary of other than Allah?
53
وَمَا بِكُم مِّن نِّعْمَةٍ فَمِنَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ ثُمَّ إِذَا مَسَّكُمُ ٱلضُّرُّ فَإِلَيْهِ تَجْـَٔرُونَ wa mā bikum min ni`matin faminallāh ۖ thumma idhā massakumuḍ ḍurru fa-ilayhi taj-arūn Whatever blessing you have is from Allah, and when a distress befalls you, you make entreaties to Him.

56
وَيَجْعَلُونَ لِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ نَصِيبًا مِّمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ ۗ تَٱللَّهِ لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ عَمَّا كُنتُمْ تَفْتَرُونَ wayaj`alūna limā lā ya`lamūna naṣīban mimmā razaqnāhum ۗ tallāhi latus-alunna `ammā kuntum taftarūn They assign a share in what We have provided them to what they do not know. By Allah, you will surely be questioned concerning what you used to fabricate.
57
وَيَجْعَلُونَ لِلَّهِ ٱلْبَنَـٰتِ سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ ۙ وَلَهُم مَّا يَشْتَهُونَ wayaj`alūna lillāhil banāti subḥānahu walahum mā yashtahūn And they attribute daughters to Allah—immaculate is He—while they will have what they desire!
58

59
يَتَوَٰرَىٰ مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ مِن سُوٓءِ مَا بُشِّرَ بِهِۦٓ ۚ أَيُمْسِكُهُۥ عَلَىٰ هُونٍ أَمْ يَدُسُّهُۥ فِى ٱلتُّرَابِ ۗ أَلَا سَآءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ yatawārā minal qawmi min sū-i mā bushhira bih ۚ ayumsikuhu `alā hūnin am yadussuhu fit turāb ۗ alā sā-a mā yaḥkumūn He hides from the people out of distress at the news he has been brought: shall he retain it in humiliation, or bury it in the ground! Behold! Evil is the judgement that they make.
60

61
وَلَوْ يُؤَاخِذُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّاسَ بِظُلْمِهِم مَّا تَرَكَ عَلَيْهَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ وَلَـٰكِن يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۖ فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهُمْ لَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ سَاعَةً ۖ وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ walaw yu-ākhidhullāhun nāsa biẓul-mihim mā taraka `alayhā min dābbatin walākin yu-akhhiruhum ilā ajalin musammā ۖ fa-idhā jā-a ajaluhum lā yasta-khirūna sā`ah ۖ walā yastaqdimūn Were Allah to take mankind to task for their wrongdoing, He would not leave any living being upon it. But He respites them until a specified time; so when their time comes they shall not defer it by a single hour nor shall they advance it.
62
وَيَجْعَلُونَ لِلَّهِ مَا يَكْرَهُونَ وَتَصِفُ أَلْسِنَتُهُمُ ٱلْكَذِبَ أَنَّ لَهُمُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۖ لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّ لَهُمُ ٱلنَّارَ وَأَنَّهُم مُّفْرَطُونَ wayaj`alūna lillāhi mā yakrahūna wataṣifu alsinatuhumul kadhiba anna lahumul ḥusnā ۖ lā jarama anna lahumun nāra wa-annahum mufraṭūn They attribute to Allah what they dislike [for themselves], and their tongues assert the lie that the best of rewards [in the Hereafter] will be theirs. Undoubtedly, the Fire shall be their lot and they will be foremost [in entering it].
63
تَٱللَّهِ لَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمَمٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ فَهُوَ وَلِيُّهُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ tallāhi laqad arsalnā ilā umamin min qablika fazayyana lahumush shayṭānu a`mālahum fahuwa waliyyuhumul yawma walahum `adhābun alīm By Allah, We have certainly sent [apostles] to nations before you. But Satan made their deeds seem decorous to them. So he is their master today and there is a painful punishment for them.
64
وَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ إِلَّا لِتُبَيِّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى ٱخْتَلَفُوا۟ فِيهِ ۙ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ wa mā anzalnā `alaykal kitāba illā litubayyina lahumul ladhikh-talafū fīhi wahudan waraḥmatan liqawmiy yu-minūn We did not send down the Book to you except [for the purpose] that you may clarify for them what they differ about, and as a guidance and mercy for a people who have faith.
65
وَٱللَّهُ أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَحْيَا بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَآ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَسْمَعُونَ wallāhu anzala minas samā-i mā-an fa-aḥyā bihil-arḍa ba`da mawtihā ۚ inna fī dhālika la-āyatan liqawmiy yasma`ūn Allah sends down water from the sky with which He revives the earth after its death. 67
وَمِن ثَمَرَٰتِ ٱلنَّخِيلِ وَٱلْأَعْنَـٰبِ تَتَّخِذُونَ مِنْهُ سَكَرًا وَرِزْقًا حَسَنًا ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ wa min thamarātin nakhīli wal-a`nābi tattakhidhūna minhu sakaran warizqan ḥasanā ۗ inna fī dhālika la-āyatan liqawmiy ya`qilūn From the fruits of date palms and vines you draw wine and goodly provision. There are indeed signs in that for people who exercise their reason.
68
وَأَوْحَىٰ رَبُّكَ إِلَى ٱلنَّحْلِ أَنِ ٱتَّخِذِى مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا وَمِنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ وَمِمَّا يَعْرِشُونَ wa-awḥā rabbuka ilan naḥli anit-takhidhī minal jibāli buyūtan wa minash shajari wa mimmā ya`rishūn And your Lord inspired the bee [saying]: ‘Make your home in the mountains, and on the trees and the trellises that they erect.
69

There is indeed a sign in that for a people who reflect.
70
وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ ثُمَّ يَتَوَفَّىٰكُمْ ۚ وَمِنكُم مَّن يُرَدُّ إِلَىٰٓ أَرْذَلِ ٱلْعُمُرِ لِكَىْ لَا يَعْلَمَ بَعْدَ عِلْمٍ شَيْـًٔا ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ قَدِيرٌ wallāhu khalaqakum thumma yatawaffākum ۚ wa minkum man yuraddu ilā ardhalil `umuri likay lā ya`lama ba`da `il-min shay-ā ۚ innallāha `alīmun qadīr Allah has created you, then He takes you away, and there are some among you who are relegated to the nethermost age so that he knows nothing after [having possessed] some knowledge. Indeed Allah is all-knowing, all-powerful.
71
وَٱللَّهُ فَضَّلَ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فِى ٱلرِّزْقِ ۚ فَمَا ٱلَّذِينَ فُضِّلُوا۟ بِرَآدِّى رِزْقِهِمْ عَلَىٰ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَهُمْ فِيهِ سَوَآءٌ ۚ أَفَبِنِعْمَةِ ٱللَّهِ يَجْحَدُونَ wallāhu faḍḍala ba`ḍakum `alā ba`ḍin fir rizq ۚ famal ladhīna fuḍḍilū birāddī rizqihim `alā mā malakat aymānuhum fahum fīhi sawā-u ۚ afabini`matil lāhi yajḥadūn Allah has granted some of you an advantage over others in [respect of] provision. Those who have been granted an advantage do not give over their provision to their slaves so that they become equal in its respect. What, do they deny the blessing of Allah?
72
وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَزْوَٰجِكُم بَنِينَ وَحَفَدَةً وَرَزَقَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ ۚ أَفَبِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ يُؤْمِنُونَ وَبِنِعْمَتِ ٱللَّهِ هُمْ يَكْفُرُونَ wallāhu ja`ala lakum min anfusikum azwājan waja`ala lakum min azwājikum banīna waḥafadatan warazaqakum minaṭ ṭayyibāt ۚ afabil bāṭili yu-minūna wabini`matillāhi hum yakfurūn Allah made for you mates from your own selves and appointed for you children and grandchildren from your mates, and We provided you with all the good things. What, do they believe in falsehood while they deny the blessing of Allah?
73
وَيَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ رِزْقًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ waya`budūna min dūnillāhi mā lā yamliku lahum rizqan minas samāwāti wal-arḍi shay-an walā yastaṭī`ūn They worship besides Allah what has no power to provide them with anything from the heavens and the earth, nor are they capable [of anything].
74
فَلَا تَضْرِبُوا۟ لِلَّهِ ٱلْأَمْثَالَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ falā taḍribū lillāhil-amthāl ۚ innallāha ya`lamu wa-antum lā ta`lamūn So do not draw comparisons for Allah: indeed Allah knows and you do not know.
75
ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا عَبْدًا مَّمْلُوكًا لَّا يَقْدِرُ عَلَىٰ شَىْءٍ وَمَن رَّزَقْنَـٰهُ مِنَّا رِزْقًا حَسَنًا فَهُوَ يُنفِقُ مِنْهُ سِرًّا وَجَهْرًا ۖ هَلْ يَسْتَوُۥنَ ۚ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ۚ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ḍaraballāhu mathalan `abdan mamlūkal lā yaqdiru `alā shay-in wa man razaqnāhu minnā rizqan ḥasanan fahuwa yunfiqu minhu sirran wajahrā ۖ hal yastawūn ۚ al-ḥamdu lillāh ۚ bal aktharuhum lā ya`lamūn Allah draws a parable: a slave owned [by his master] who has no power over anything, and another one [a free man] whom We have provided a goodly provision and who spends out of it secretly and openly. Are they equal? All praise belongs to Allah. But most of them do not know.
76
وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا رَّجُلَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَبْكَمُ لَا يَقْدِرُ عَلَىٰ شَىْءٍ وَهُوَ كَلٌّ عَلَىٰ مَوْلَىٰهُ أَيْنَمَا يُوَجِّههُّ لَا يَأْتِ بِخَيْرٍ ۖ هَلْ يَسْتَوِى هُوَ وَمَن يَأْمُرُ بِٱلْعَدْلِ ۙ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ waḍaraballāhu mathalan rajulayni aḥaduhumā abkamu lā yaqdiru `alā shay-in wahuwa kallun `alā mawlāhu aynamā yuwajjih-hu lā ya-ti bikhayr ۖ hal yastawī huwa wa man ya-muru bil `adli wahuwa `alā ṣirāṭin mustaqīm Allah draws [another] parable: Two men, one of whom is dumb, having no power over anything and who is a liability to his master: wherever he directs him he does not bring any good. Is he equal to someone who enjoins justice and is [steady] on a straight path?
77
وَلِلَّهِ غَيْبُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَمَآ أَمْرُ ٱلسَّاعَةِ إِلَّا كَلَمْحِ ٱلْبَصَرِ أَوْ هُوَ أَقْرَبُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ walillāhi ghaybus samāwāti wal-arḍ ۚ wa mā amrus sā`ati illā kalamḥil baṣari aw huwa aqrab ۚ innallāha `alā kulli shay-in qadīr To Allah belongs the Unseen of the heavens and the earth. The matter of the Hour is just like the twinkling of an eye, or [even] swifter. Indeed Allah has power over all things.
78
وَٱللَّهُ أَخْرَجَكُم مِّنۢ بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ شَيْـًٔا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۙ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ wallāhu akhrajakum min buṭūni ummahātikum lā ta`lamūna shay-an waja`ala lakumus sam`a wal-abṣāra wal-af-idata la`allakum tashkurūn Allah has brought you forth from the bellies of your mothers while you did not know anything. He made for you hearing, eyesight, and hearts so that you may give thanks.
79

There are indeed signs in that for a people who have faith.
80

81

That is how He completes His blessing upon you so that you may submit [to Him].
82

وَأَلْقَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلسَّلَمَ ۖ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ wa-alqaw ilallāhi yawma-idhinis salam ۖ waḍalla `anhum mā kānū yaftarūn They will submit to Allah on that day, and what they used to fabricate will forsake them.
88
ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ زِدْنَـٰهُمْ عَذَابًا فَوْقَ ٱلْعَذَابِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يُفْسِدُونَ alladhīna kafarū waṣaddū `an sabīlillāhi zidnāhum `adhāban fawqal `adhābi bimā kānū yufsidūn Those who are faithless and bar from the way of Allah—We shall add punishment to their punishment because of the corruption they used to cause.
89
وَيَوْمَ نَبْعَثُ فِى كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ شَهِيدًا عَلَيْهِم مِّنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ ۖ وَجِئْنَا بِكَ شَهِيدًا عَلَىٰ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ۚ وَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ تِبْيَـٰنًا لِّكُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً وَبُشْرَىٰ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ wayawma nab`athu fī kulli ummatin shahīdan `alayhim min anfusihim ۖ waji-nā bika shahīdan `alā hā-ulā-i ۚ wanazzalnā `alaykal kitāba tibyānal likulli shay-in wahudan waraḥmatan wabushrā lil-muslimīn The day We raise in every nation a witness against them from among themselves, We shall bring you as a witness against these. We have sent down the Book to you as a clarification of all things and as guidance, mercy and good news for the Muslims.
90
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِٱلْعَدْلِ وَٱلْإِحْسَـٰنِ وَإِيتَآئِ ذِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَيَنْهَىٰ عَنِ ٱلْفَحْشَآءِ وَٱلْمُنكَرِ وَٱلْبَغْىِ ۚ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ innallāha ya-muru bil `adli wal-iḥsāni wa-iytā-i dhil qurbā wayanhā `anil faḥshā-i wal munkari wal baghyi ۚ ya`iẓukum la`allakum tadhakkarūn Indeed Allah enjoins justice and kindness, and generosity towards relatives, and He forbids indecency, wrongdoing, and aggression. He advises you, so that you may take admonition.
91
وَأَوْفُوا۟ بِعَهْدِ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا عَـٰهَدتُّمْ وَلَا تَنقُضُوا۟ ٱلْأَيْمَـٰنَ بَعْدَ تَوْكِيدِهَا وَقَدْ جَعَلْتُمُ ٱللَّهَ عَلَيْكُمْ كَفِيلًا ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ wa-awfū bi`ahdillāhi idhā `āhadtum walā tanquḍul-aymāna ba`da tawkīdihā waqad ja`altumullāha `alaykum kafīlā ۚ innallāha ya`lamu mā taf`alūn Fulfill Allah’s covenant when you pledge, and do not break [your] oaths, after pledging them solemnly and having made Allah a witness over yourselves. Indeed Allah knows what you do.
92
وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّتِى نَقَضَتْ غَزْلَهَا مِنۢ بَعْدِ قُوَّةٍ أَنكَـٰثًا تَتَّخِذُونَ أَيْمَـٰنَكُمْ دَخَلًۢا بَيْنَكُمْ أَن تَكُونَ أُمَّةٌ هِىَ أَرْبَىٰ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ ۚ إِنَّمَا يَبْلُوكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦ ۚ وَلَيُبَيِّنَنَّ لَكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ مَا كُنتُمْ فِيهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَ walā takūnū kal latī naqaḍat ghazlahā min ba`di quwwatin ankāthan tattakhidhūna aymānakum dakhalan baynakum an takūna ummatun hiya arbā min ummah ۚ innamā yablūkumullāhu bih ۚ walayubayyinanna lakum yawmal qiyāmati mā kuntum fīhi takhtalifūn Do not be like her who would undo her yarn, breaking it up after [spinning it to] strength, by making your oaths a means of [mutual] deceit among yourselves, so that one community may become more affluent than another community. Indeed Allah tests you thereby, and He will surely clarify for you on the Day of Resurrection what you used to differ about.
93
وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَعَلَكُمْ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً وَلَـٰكِن يُضِلُّ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَلَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ عَمَّا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ walaw shā-allāhu laja`alakum ummatan wāḥidatan walākin yuḍillu man yashā-u wayahdī man yashā-u ۚ walatus-alunna `ammā kuntum ta`malūn Had Allah wished, He would have made you one community, but He leads astray whomever He wishes and guides whomever He wishes, and you will surely be questioned concerning what you used to do.
94
وَلَا تَتَّخِذُوٓا۟ أَيْمَـٰنَكُمْ دَخَلًۢا بَيْنَكُمْ فَتَزِلَّ قَدَمٌۢ بَعْدَ ثُبُوتِهَا وَتَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلسُّوٓءَ بِمَا صَدَدتُّمْ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَلَكُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ walā tattakhidhū aymānakum dakhalan baynakum fatazilla qadamun ba`da thubūtihā watadhūqus sū a bimā ṣadadtum `an sabīlillāh ۖ walakum `adhābun `aẓīm Do not make your oaths a means of [mutual] deceit among yourselves, lest feet should stumble after being steady and [lest] you suffer ill for barring from the way of Allah and face a great punishment.
95
وَلَا تَشْتَرُوا۟ بِعَهْدِ ٱللَّهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ walā tashtarū bi`ahdillāhi thamanan qalīlā ۚ innamā `indallāhi huwa khayrul lakum in kuntum ta`lamūn Do not sell Allah’s covenants for a paltry gain. Indeed, what is with Allah is better for you, should you know.
96
مَا عِندَكُمْ يَنفَدُ ۖ وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ بَاقٍ ۗ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ صَبَرُوٓا۟ أَجْرَهُم بِأَحْسَنِ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ mā `indakum yanfad ۖ wa mā `indallāhi bāq ۗ walanajziyannal ladhīna ṣabarū ajrahum bi-aḥsani mā kānū ya`malūn That which is with you will be spent [and gone], but what is with Allah shall last, and We will surely pay the patient their reward by the best of what they used to do.
97
مَنْ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَلَنُحْيِيَنَّهُۥ حَيَوٰةً طَيِّبَةً ۖ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْرَهُم بِأَحْسَنِ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ man `amila ṣāliḥan min dhakarin aw unthā wahuwa mu-minun falanuḥyiyannahu ḥayātan ṭayyibah ۖ walanajziyannahum ajrahum bi-aḥsani mā kānū ya`malūn Whoever acts righteously, [whether] male or female, should he be faithful, We shall revive him with a good life and pay them their reward by the best of what they used to do.
98
فَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ فَٱسْتَعِذْ بِٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ fa-idhā qara-tal qur-āna fasta`idh billāhi minash shayṭānir rajīm When you recite the Quran, seek the protection of Allah against the outcast Satan.
99
إِنَّهُۥ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ سُلْطَـٰنٌ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ innahu laysa lahu sulṭānun `alal ladhīna āmanū wa`alā rabbihim yatawakkalūn Indeed he does not have any authority over those who have faith and put their trust in their Lord.
100
إِنَّمَا سُلْطَـٰنُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَتَوَلَّوْنَهُۥ وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِهِۦ مُشْرِكُونَ innamā sulṭānuhu `alal ladhīna yatawallawnahu wal ladhīna hum bihi mushrikūn His authority is only over those who befriend him and those who make him a partner [of Allah].
101
وَإِذَا بَدَّلْنَآ ءَايَةً مَّكَانَ ءَايَةٍ ۙ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُنَزِّلُ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُفْتَرٍۭ ۚ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ wa idhā baddalnā āyatan makāna āyatin wallāhu a`lamu bimā yunazzilu qālū innamā anta muftar ۚ bal aktharuhum lā ya`lamūn When We change a sign for another in its stead—and Allah knows best what He sends down—they say, ‘You are indeed a fabricator.’ Indeed, most of them do not know.
102
قُلْ نَزَّلَهُۥ رُوحُ ٱلْقُدُسِ مِن رَّبِّكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ لِيُثَبِّتَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهُدًى وَبُشْرَىٰ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ qul nazzalahu rūḥul qudusi min rabbika bil ḥaqqi liyuthabbital ladhīna āmanū wahudan wabushrā lil-muslimīn Say, the Holy Spirit has brought it down duly from your Lord to fortify those who have faith and as guidance and good news for the Muslims.
103
وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ إِنَّمَا يُعَلِّمُهُۥ بَشَرٌ ۗ لِّسَانُ ٱلَّذِى يُلْحِدُونَ إِلَيْهِ أَعْجَمِىٌّ وَهَـٰذَا لِسَانٌ عَرَبِىٌّ مُّبِينٌ walaqad na`lamu annahum yaqūlūna innamā yu`allimuhu bashar ۗ lisānul ladhī yulḥidūna ilayhi a`jamiyyun wahādhā lisānun `arabiyyun mubīn We certainly know that they say, ‘It is only a human that instructs him.’ The language of him to whom they refer is non-Arabic, while this is a clear Arabic language.
104
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ لَا يَهْدِيهِمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ innal ladhīna lā yu-minūna bi-āyātillāhi lā yahdīhimullāhu walahum `adhābun alīm Indeed those who do not believe in the signs of Allah—Allah shall not guide them and there is a painful punishment for them.
105
إِنَّمَا يَفْتَرِى ٱلْكَذِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَـٰذِبُونَ innamā yaftaril kadhibal ladhīna lā yu-minūna bi-āyātillāh ۖ wa-ulā-ika humul kādhibūn Only those fabricate lies who do not believe in the signs of Allah, and it is they who are the liars.
106
مَن كَفَرَ بِٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ إِيمَـٰنِهِۦٓ إِلَّا مَنْ أُكْرِهَ وَقَلْبُهُۥ مُطْمَئِنٌّۢ بِٱلْإِيمَـٰنِ وَلَـٰكِن مَّن شَرَحَ بِٱلْكُفْرِ صَدْرًا فَعَلَيْهِمْ غَضَبٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ man kafara billāhi min ba`di-iymānihi illā man ukriha waqalbuhu muṭma-innun bil-iymāni walākin man sharaḥa bil kufri ṣadran fa`alayhim ghaḍabun minallāhi walahum `adhābun `aẓīm Excepting someone who is compelled [to recant his faith] while his heart is at rest in it, those who disbelieve in Allah after [affirming] their faith and open up their breasts to unfaith, Allah’s wrath shall be upon them and there is a great punishment for them.
107
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمُ ٱسْتَحَبُّوا۟ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا عَلَى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ dhālika bi-annahumus taḥabbul ḥayātad dunyā `alal-ākhirati wa-annallāha lā yahdil qawmal kāfirīn That, because they preferred the life of the world to the Hereafter and that Allah does not guide the faithless lot.
108
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ طَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَسَمْعِهِمْ وَأَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْغَـٰفِلُونَ ulā-ikal ladhīna ṭaba`allāhu `alā qulūbihim wasam`ihim wa-abṣārihim ۖ wa-ulā-ika humul ghāfilūn They are the ones Allah has set a seal on their hearts, their hearing and their sight, and it is they who are the heedless.
109
لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّهُمْ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ هُمُ ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ lā jarama annahum fil-ākhirati humul khāsirūn Undoubtedly, they are the ones who will be the losers in the Hereafter.
110
ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لِلَّذِينَ هَاجَرُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا فُتِنُوا۟ ثُمَّ جَـٰهَدُوا۟ وَصَبَرُوٓا۟ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهَا لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ thumma inna rabbaka lilladhīna hājarū min ba`di mā futinū thumma jāhadū waṣabarū inna rabbaka min ba`dihā laghafūrun raḥīm Thereafter your Lord will indeed be forgiving and merciful to those who migrated after they were persecuted, waged jihad and remained steadfast.
111
يَوْمَ تَأْتِى كُلُّ نَفْسٍ تُجَـٰدِلُ عَن نَّفْسِهَا وَتُوَفَّىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا عَمِلَتْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ yawma ta-tī kullu nafsin tujādilu `an nafsihā watuwaffā kullu nafsin mā `amilat wahum lā yuẓlamūn The day [will come] when every soul will come pleading for itself and every soul will be recompensed fully for what it has done, and they will not be wronged.
112
وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا قَرْيَةً كَانَتْ ءَامِنَةً مُّطْمَئِنَّةً يَأْتِيهَا رِزْقُهَا رَغَدًا مِّن كُلِّ مَكَانٍ فَكَفَرَتْ بِأَنْعُمِ ٱللَّهِ فَأَذَٰقَهَا ٱللَّهُ لِبَاسَ ٱلْجُوعِ وَٱلْخَوْفِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَصْنَعُونَ waḍaraballāhu mathalan qaryatan kānat āminatan muṭma-innatan ya-tīhā rizquhā raghadan min kulli makānin fakafarat bi-an`umillāhi fa-adhāqahallāhu libāsal jū`i wal khawfi bimā kānū yaṣna`ūn Allah draws a parable: There was a town secure and peaceful, its provision coming abundantly from every place. But it was ungrateful toward Allah’s blessings. So Allah made it taste hunger and fear because of what they used to do.
113
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ وَهُمْ ظَـٰلِمُونَ walaqad jā-ahum rasūlun minhum fakadhhabūhu fa-akhadhahumul `adhābu wahum ẓālimūn Certainly there had come to them an apostle from among themselves, but they impugned him. So the punishment seized them while they were doing wrong.
114
فَكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ حَلَـٰلًا طَيِّبًا وَٱشْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ fakulū mimmā razaqakumullāhu ḥalālan ṭayyiban washkurū ni`matallāhi in kuntum iyyāhu ta`budūn So eat out of what Allah has provided you as lawful and good, and give thanks for Allah’s blessing, if it is Him that you worship.
115
إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْمَيْتَةَ وَٱلدَّمَ وَلَحْمَ ٱلْخِنزِيرِ وَمَآ أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ ٱللَّهِ بِهِۦ ۖ فَمَنِ ٱضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَلَا عَادٍ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ innamā ḥarrama `alaykumul maytata wad dama walaḥmal khinzīri wa mā uhilla lighayrillāhi bih ۖ famaniḍ-ṭurra ghayra bāghin walā `ādin fa-innallāha ghafūrun raḥīm He has forbidden you only carrion, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been offered to other than Allah. But if someone is compelled [to eat any of that], without being rebellious or aggressive, indeed Allah is all-forgiving, all-merciful.
116
وَلَا تَقُولُوا۟ لِمَا تَصِفُ أَلْسِنَتُكُمُ ٱلْكَذِبَ هَـٰذَا حَلَـٰلٌ وَهَـٰذَا حَرَامٌ لِّتَفْتَرُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ لَا يُفْلِحُونَ walā taqūlū limā taṣifu alsinatukumul kadhiba hādhā ḥalālun wahādhā ḥarāmul litaftarū `alallāhil kadhib ۚ innal ladhīna yaftarūna `alallāhil kadhiba lā yufliḥūn Do not say, asserting falsely with your tongues, ‘This is lawful, and that is unlawful,’ attributing lies to Allah. Indeed those who attribute lies to Allah will not be felicitous.
117
مَتَـٰعٌ قَلِيلٌ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ matā`un qalīlun walahum `adhābun alīm [Their share of the present life is] a trifling enjoyment, and there will be a painful punishment for them.
118
وَعَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوا۟ حَرَّمْنَا مَا قَصَصْنَا عَلَيْكَ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ وَمَا ظَلَمْنَـٰهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ wa`alal ladhīna hādū ḥarramnā mā qaṣaṣnā `alayka min qabl ۖ wa mā ẓalamnāhum walākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn We forbade to the Jews what We have recounted to you earlier, and We did not wrong them, but they used to wrong themselves.
119
ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لِلَّذِينَ عَمِلُوا۟ ٱلسُّوٓءَ بِجَهَـٰلَةٍ ثُمَّ تَابُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ وَأَصْلَحُوٓا۟ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهَا لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ thumma inna rabbaka lilladhīna `amilus sū a bijahālatin thumma tābū min ba`di dhālika wa-aṣlaḥū inna rabbaka min ba`dihā laghafūrun raḥīm Moreover, your Lord will indeed be forgiving and merciful to those who repent after they having committed evil out of ignorance and reform themselves.
120
إِنَّ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ كَانَ أُمَّةً قَانِتًا لِّلَّهِ حَنِيفًا وَلَمْ يَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ inna ibrāhīma kāna ummatan qānital lillāhi ḥanīfan walam yaku minal mushrikīn Indeed Abraham was a nation [all by himself], obedient to Allah, a Hanif, and he was not a polytheist.
121
شَاكِرًا لِّأَنْعُمِهِ ۚ ٱجْتَبَىٰهُ وَهَدَىٰهُ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ shākiral li-an`umih ۚ ij-tabāhu wahadāhu ilā ṣirāṭin mustaqīm Grateful [as he was] for His blessings, He chose him and guided him to a straight path.
122
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً ۖ وَإِنَّهُۥ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَمِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ wa-ātaynāhu fid dunyā ḥasanah ۖ wa innahu fil-ākhirati laminaṣ ṣāliḥīn We gave him good in this world, and in the Hereafter he will indeed be among the Righteous.
123
ثُمَّ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ أَنِ ٱتَّبِعْ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ حَنِيفًا ۖ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ thumma awḥaynā ilayka anit-tabi` millata ibrāhīma ḥanīfā ۖ wa mā kāna minal mushrikīn Thereafter We revealed to you [saying], ‘Follow the creed of Abraham, a Hanif, who was not a polytheist.’
124
إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ ٱلسَّبْتُ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ٱخْتَلَفُوا۟ فِيهِ ۚ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَيَحْكُمُ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ فِيمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ innamā ju`ilas sabtu `alal ladhīnakh-talafū fīh ۚ wa inna rabbaka layaḥkumu baynahum yawmal qiyāmati fīmā kānū fīhi yakhtalifūn The Sabbath was only prescribed for those who differed about it. Your Lord will indeed judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that about which they differ.
125
ٱدْعُ إِلَىٰ سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِٱلْحِكْمَةِ وَٱلْمَوْعِظَةِ ٱلْحَسَنَةِ ۖ وَجَـٰدِلْهُم بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ ۖ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ ud-`u ilā sabīli rabbika bil ḥikmati wal maw`iẓatil ḥasanah ۖ wajādilhum bil latī hiya aḥsan ۚ inna rabbaka huwa a`lamu biman ḍalla `an sabīlih ۖ wahuwa a`lamu bil muhtadīn Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good advice and dispute with them in a manner that is best. Indeed your Lord knows best those who stray from His way, and He knows best those who are guided.
126
وَإِنْ عَاقَبْتُمْ فَعَاقِبُوا۟ بِمِثْلِ مَا عُوقِبْتُم بِهِۦ ۖ وَلَئِن صَبَرْتُمْ لَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لِّلصَّـٰبِرِينَ wa in `āqabtum fa`āqibū bimithli mā `ūqibtum bih ۖ wala-in ṣabartum lahuwa khayrul lilṣṣābirīn Should you retaliate, retaliate with the like of what you have been made to suffer, but if you are patient that is surely better for the steadfast.
127
وَٱصْبِرْ وَمَا صَبْرُكَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّهِ ۚ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا تَكُ فِى ضَيْقٍ مِّمَّا يَمْكُرُونَ waṣbir wa mā ṣabruka illā billāh ۚ walā taḥzan `alayhim walā taku fī ḍayqin mimmā yamkurūn So be steadfast, and you cannot be steadfast except with Allah [’s help]. And do not grieve for them, nor be upset by their guile.
128
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوا۟ وَّٱلَّذِينَ هُم مُّحْسِنُونَ innallāha ma`al ladhīnat-taqaw wal ladhīna hum muḥsinūn Indeed Allah is with those who are Godwary and those who are virtuous.
