Mashhad Ziarat

Merits of visiting the shrine of Imam Rida (as):

Hamdan b. Ishaq says: 'I went to Imam al-Jawad (a.s.) and said, ‘What is the reward of the one who visits your father [’s tomb] in Tus?’ His holiness said, ‘Whoever visits my father in Tus, Allah will forgive his past and future sins’.'Hamdan said,'After ziyara of his holiness, I went on to Hajj pilgrimage and met Ayyub b. Nuh; he said, Imam al-Jawad (a.s.) told me: Whoever visits my father’s tomb in Tus, Allah will forgive his past sins and the ones that follow and will set up a minbar (pulpit) across from the minbar of Muhammad (S) and ‘Ali (a.s.), until He is finished with His judgments on people.'

Etiquette of visiting the shrine of Imam Rida (as):

Upon reaching the holy city of Mashhad, perform ghusl before proceeding to the Holy Shrine, and say the following:

Then put on your cleanest clothers, and, walking barefoot, taking short steps, and with a tranquil heart, proceed towards the Haram.

In your heart remember Allah, repeating constantly Tahlil, Takbir, and Tasbih.

When entering the courtyard of the shrine, say the following:

Before entering the Holy Shrine, stand at the door, and recite the following:

You may then approach the Shrine, and facing it with Qibla towards your back, commence the Ziarat

According to Shaykh al-Mufid, it is recommended to recite the following Dua after the Ziarat:

 Shaykh Abbas al-Qummi narrates:If you wish to bid farewell to Imam Rida (as) then bid him farewell with the farewell you would bid to the Prophet (saw)

'May Allah (swt) not make this my last greeting to you.'
