Al-Buruj (#85)

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ was samā-i dhātil burūj By the heaven with its Houses,
2
وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ wal yawmil maw`ūd by the Promised Day,
3
وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ washāhidin wa mash-hūd by the Witness and the Witnessed:
4
قُتِلَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ qutila aṣ-ḥābul-ukhdūd perish the People of the Ditch!
5
ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ an-nāri dhātil waqūd The fire abounding in fuel,
6
إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ idh hum `alayhā qu`ūd above which they sat
7
وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ wahum `alā mā yaf`alūna bil mu-minīna shuhūd as they were themselves witnesses to what they did to the faithful.
8
وَمَا نَقَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ wa mā naqamū minhum illā an yu-minū billāhil `azīzil ḥamīd They were vindictive towards them only because they had faith in Allah, the All-mighty and the All-laudable,
9
ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدٌ alladhī lahu mulkus samāwāti wal-arḍ ۚ wallāhu `alā kulli shay-in shahīd to whom belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and Allah is witness to all things.
10
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا۟ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا۟ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ ٱلْحَرِيقِ innal ladhīna fatanul mu-minīna wal mu-mināti thumma lam yatūbū falahum `adhābu jahannama walahum `adhābul ḥarīq Indeed those who persecute the faithful, men and women, and do not repent thereafter, there is the punishment of hell for them and the punishment of burning.
11
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ innal ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti lahum jannātun tajrī min taḥtihal-anhār ۚ dhālikal fawzul kabīr Indeed those who have faith and do righteous deeds—for them will be gardens with streams running in them. That is the supreme success.
12
إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ inna baṭsha rabbika lashadīd Indeed your Lord’s striking is severe.
13
إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ innahu huwa yubdi-u wayu`īd It is indeed He who originates and brings back,
14
وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُ wahuwal ghafūrul wadūd and He is the All-forgiving, the All-affectionate,
15
ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْمَجِيدُ dhul `arshil majīd Lord of the Throne, the All-glorious,
16
فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ fa``ālul limā yurīd doer of what He desires.
17
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْجُنُودِ hal atāka ḥadīthul junūd Did you receive the story of the hosts
18
فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ fir`awna wathamūd of Pharaoh and Thamud?
19
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى تَكْذِيبٍ balil ladhīna kafarū fī takdhīb Indeed the faithless dwell in denial,
20
وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطٌۢ wallāhu min warā-ihim muḥīṭ and Allah besieges them from all around.
21
بَلْ هُوَ قُرْءَانٌ مَّجِيدٌ bal huwa qur-ānun majīd Indeed it is a glorious Quran,
22
فِى لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوظٍۭ fī lawḥin maḥfūẓ in a preserved tablet.
