بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

كِتَـٰبٌ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ فَلَا يَكُن فِى صَدْرِكَ حَرَجٌ مِّنْهُ لِتُنذِرَ بِهِۦ وَذِكْرَىٰ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ kitābun unzila ilayka falā yakun fī ṣadrika ḥarajun minhu litundhira bihi wadhikrā lil-mu-minīn [This is] a Book that has been sent down to you—so let there be no disquiet in your heart on its account that you may warn thereby—and as an admonition for the faithful.
3
ٱتَّبِعُوا۟ مَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكُم مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا۟ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ ۗ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ ittabi`ū mā unzila ilaykum min rabbikum walā tattabi`ū min dūnihi awliyā-a ۗ qalīlan mā tadhakkarūn Follow what has been sent down to you from your Lord, and do not follow any masters besides Him. Little is the admonition that you take!
4
وَكَم مِّن قَرْيَةٍ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهَا فَجَآءَهَا بَأْسُنَا بَيَـٰتًا أَوْ هُمْ قَآئِلُونَ wakam min qaryatin ahlaknāhā fajā-ahā ba-sunā bayātan aw hum qā-ilūn How many a town We have destroyed! Our punishment came to it at night, or while they were taking a midday nap.
5
فَمَا كَانَ دَعْوَىٰهُمْ إِذْ جَآءَهُم بَأْسُنَآ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِينَ famā kāna da`wāhum idh jā-ahum ba-sunā illā an qālū innā kunnā ẓālimīn Then their cry, when Our punishment overtook them, was only that they said, ‘We have indeed been wrongdoers!’
6
فَلَنَسْـَٔلَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَنَسْـَٔلَنَّ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ falanas-alannal ladhīna ursila ilayhim walanas-alannal mursalīn We will surely question those to whom the apostles were sent, and We will surely question the apostles.
7
فَلَنَقُصَّنَّ عَلَيْهِم بِعِلْمٍ ۖ وَمَا كُنَّا غَآئِبِينَ falanaquṣṣanna `alayhim bi`il-m ۖ wa mā kunnā ghā-ibīn Then We will surely recount to them with knowledge, for We had not been absent.
8
وَٱلْوَزْنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلْحَقُّ ۚ فَمَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ wal waznu yawma-idhinil-ḥaqq ۚ faman thaqulat mawāzīnuhu fa-ulā-ika humul mufliḥūn The weighing [of deeds] on that Day is a truth. As for those whose deeds weigh heavy in the scales—it is they who are the felicitous.
9
وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا يَظْلِمُونَ wa man khaffat mawāzīnuhu fa-ulā-ikal ladhīna khasirū anfusahum bimā kānū bi-āyātinā yaẓlimūn As for those whose deeds weigh light in the scales—it is they who have ruined their souls, because they used to wrong Our signs.
10
وَلَقَدْ مَكَّنَّـٰكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَـٰيِشَ ۗ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ walaqad makkannākum fil-arḍi waja`alnā lakum fīhā ma`āyish ۗ qalīlan mā tashkurūn Certainly We have established you on the earth, and made in it [various] means of livelihood for you. Little do you thank.
11
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ ثُمَّ صَوَّرْنَـٰكُمْ ثُمَّ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ ٱسْجُدُوا۟ لِـَٔادَمَ فَسَجَدُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ لَمْ يَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ walaqad khalaqnākum thumma ṣawwarnākum thumma qulnā lil-malā-ikatis-judū li-ādama fasajadū illā iblīsa lam yakun minas sājidīn Certainly We created you, then We formed you, then We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate before Adam.’ So they [all] prostrated, but not Iblis: he was not among those who prostrated.
12
قَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَلَّا تَسْجُدَ إِذْ أَمَرْتُكَ ۖ قَالَ أَنَا۠ خَيْرٌ مِّنْهُ خَلَقْتَنِى مِن نَّارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن طِينٍ qāla mā mana`aka allā tasjuda idh amartuk ۖ qāla ana khayrun minhu khalaqtanī min nārin wakhalaqtahu min ṭīn Said He, ‘What prevented you from prostrating, when I commanded you? ’‘I am better than him,’ he said. ‘You created me from fire and You created him from clay.’
13
قَالَ فَٱهْبِطْ مِنْهَا فَمَا يَكُونُ لَكَ أَن تَتَكَبَّرَ فِيهَا فَٱخْرُجْ إِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰغِرِينَ qāla fahbiṭ minhā famā yakūnu laka an tatakabbara fīhā fakhruj innaka minaṣ ṣāghirīn ‘Get down from it!’ He said. ‘It is not for you to be arrogant therein. Begone! You are indeed among the degraded ones.’
14
قَالَ أَنظِرْنِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ qāla anẓirnī ilā yawmi yub`athūn He said, ‘Respite me till the day they will be resurrected.’
15
قَالَ إِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ qāla innaka minal munẓarīn Said He, ‘You are indeed among the reprieved.’
16
قَالَ فَبِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى لَأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَٰطَكَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ qāla fabimā aghwaytanī la-aq`udanna lahum ṣirāṭakal mustaqīm ‘As You have consigned me to perversity,’ he said, ‘I will surely lie in wait for them on Your straight path.
17
ثُمَّ لَـَٔاتِيَنَّهُم مِّنۢ بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ وَعَنْ أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ وَعَن شَمَآئِلِهِمْ ۖ وَلَا تَجِدُ أَكْثَرَهُمْ شَـٰكِرِينَ thumma la-ātiyannahum min bayni aydīhim wa min khalfihim wa`an aymānihim wa`an shamā-ilihim ۖ walā tajidu aktharahum shākirīn Then I will come at them from their front and from their rear, and from their right and their left, and You will not find most of them to be grateful.’
18
قَالَ ٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا مَذْءُومًا مَّدْحُورًا ۖ لَّمَن تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ qālakh-ruj minhā madh-ūman mad-ḥūrā ۖ laman tabi`aka minhum la-amla-anna jahannama minkum ajma`īn Said He, ‘Begone hence, blameful and banished! Whoever of them follows you, I will surely fill hell with you all.’
19
وَيَـٰٓـَٔادَمُ ٱسْكُنْ أَنتَ وَزَوْجُكَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ فَكُلَا مِنْ حَيْثُ شِئْتُمَا وَلَا تَقْرَبَا هَـٰذِهِ ٱلشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ wayā-ādamus skun anta wazawjukal jannata fakulā min ḥaythu shi-tumā walā taqrabā hādhihish shajarata fatakūnā minaẓ ẓālimīn [Then He said to Adam,] ‘O Adam, dwell with your mate in paradise, and eat thereof whence you wish; but do not approach this tree, lest you should be among the wrongdoers.’
20
فَوَسْوَسَ لَهُمَا ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ لِيُبْدِىَ لَهُمَا مَا وُۥرِىَ عَنْهُمَا مِن سَوْءَٰتِهِمَا وَقَالَ مَا نَهَىٰكُمَا رَبُّكُمَا عَنْ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلشَّجَرَةِ إِلَّآ أَن تَكُونَا مَلَكَيْنِ أَوْ تَكُونَا مِنَ ٱلْخَـٰلِدِينَ fawaswasa lahumash shayṭānu liyubdiya lahumā mā wūriya `anhumā min saw-ātihimā waqāla mā nahākumā rabbukumā `an hādhihish shajarati illā an takūnā malakayni aw takūnā minal khālidīn Then Satan tempted them, to expose to them what was hidden from them of their nakedness, and he said, ‘Your Lord has only forbidden you from this tree lest you should become angels, or lest you become immortal.’
21
وَقَاسَمَهُمَآ إِنِّى لَكُمَا لَمِنَ ٱلنَّـٰصِحِينَ waqāsamahumā innī lakumā laminan nāṣiḥīn And he swore to them, ‘I am indeed your well-wisher.’
22
فَدَلَّىٰهُمَا بِغُرُورٍ ۚ فَلَمَّا ذَاقَا ٱلشَّجَرَةَ بَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْءَٰتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفَانِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِن وَرَقِ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۖ وَنَادَىٰهُمَا رَبُّهُمَآ أَلَمْ أَنْهَكُمَا عَن تِلْكُمَا ٱلشَّجَرَةِ وَأَقُل لَّكُمَآ إِنَّ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنَ لَكُمَا عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ fadallāhumā bighurūr ۚ falammā dhāqash shajarata badat lahumā saw-ātuhumā waṭafiqā yakhṣifāni `alayhimā min waraqil jannah ۖ wanādāhumā rabbuhumā alam anhakumā `an tilkumash shajarati wa-aqul lakumā innash shayṭāna lakumā `aduwwun mubīn Thus he brought about their fall by deception. So when they tasted of the tree, their nakedness became exposed to them, and they began to stitch over themselves with the leaves of paradise. Their Lord called out to them, ‘Did I not forbid you from that tree, and tell you, ‘‘Satan is indeed your manifest enemy?’’ ’
23
قَالَا رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَآ أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ qālā rabbanā ẓalamnā anfusanā wa in lam taghfir lanā watarḥamnā lanakūnanna minal khāsirīn They said, ‘Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves! If You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.’
24
قَالَ ٱهْبِطُوا۟ بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ ۖ وَلَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمَتَـٰعٌ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ qālah-biṭū ba`ḍukum liba`ḍin `aduww ۖ walakum fil-arḍi mustaqarrun wa matā`un ilā ḥīn He said, ‘Get down, being enemies of one another! On the earth shall be your abode and sustenance for a time.’
25
قَالَ فِيهَا تَحْيَوْنَ وَفِيهَا تَمُوتُونَ وَمِنْهَا تُخْرَجُونَ qāla fīhā taḥyawna wafīhā tamūtūna wa minhā tukhrajūn He said, ‘In it you will live, and in it you will die; and from it you will be raised [from the dead].’
26
يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ قَدْ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ لِبَاسًا يُوَٰرِى سَوْءَٰتِكُمْ وَرِيشًا ۖ وَلِبَاسُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ ءَايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ yābanī ādama qad anzalnā `alaykum libāsan yuwārī saw-ātikum warīshā ۖ walibāsut taqwā dhālika khayr ۚ dhālika min āyātillāhi la`allahum yadhhakkarūn ‘O Children of Adam! We have certainly sent down to you garments to cover your nakedness, and for adornment. Yet the garment of Godwariness—that is the best.’ That is [one] of Allah’s signs, so that they may take admonition.
27
يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ لَا يَفْتِنَنَّكُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ كَمَآ أَخْرَجَ أَبَوَيْكُم مِّنَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ يَنزِعُ عَنْهُمَا لِبَاسَهُمَا لِيُرِيَهُمَا سَوْءَٰتِهِمَآ ۗ إِنَّهُۥ يَرَىٰكُمْ هُوَ وَقَبِيلُهُۥ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا تَرَوْنَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ أَوْلِيَآءَ لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ yābanī ādama lā yaftinannakumush shayṭānu kamā akhraja abawaykum minal jannati yanzi`u `anhumā libāsahumā liyuriyahumā saw-ātihimā ۗ innahu yarākum huwa waqabīluhu min ḥaythu lā tarawnahum ۗ innā ja`alnash shayāṭīna awliyā-a lilladhīna lā yu-minūn ‘O Children of Adam! Do not let Satan tempt you, like he expelled your parents from paradise, stripping them of their garments to expose to them their nakedness. Indeed he sees you—he and his hosts—whence you do not see them. We have indeed made the devils friends of those who have no faith.’
28
وَإِذَا فَعَلُوا۟ فَـٰحِشَةً قَالُوا۟ وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهَآ ءَابَآءَنَا وَٱللَّهُ أَمَرَنَا بِهَا ۗ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَأْمُرُ بِٱلْفَحْشَآءِ ۖ أَتَقُولُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ wa idhā fa`alū fāḥishatan qālū wajadnā `alayhā ābā-anā wallāhu amaranā bihā ۗ qul innallāha lā ya-muru bil faḥshā-i ۖ ataqūlūna `alallāhi mā lā ta`lamūn When they commit an indecency, they say, ‘We found our fathers practising it, and Allah has enjoined it upon us.’ Say, ‘Indeed Allah does not enjoin indecencies. Do you attribute to Allah what you do not know?’
29
قُلْ أَمَرَ رَبِّى بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۖ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ وُجُوهَكُمْ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ وَٱدْعُوهُ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ ۚ كَمَا بَدَأَكُمْ تَعُودُونَ qul amara rabbī bil qisṭ ۖ wa-aqīmū wujūhakum `inda kulli masjidin wad`ūhu mukhliṣīna lahud dīn ۚ kamā bada-akum ta`ūdūn Say, ‘My Lord has enjoined justice,’ and [He has enjoined,] ‘Set your heart [on Him] at every occasion of prayer, and invoke Him, putting your exclusive faith in Him. Even as He brought you forth in the beginning, so will you return.’
30
فَرِيقًا هَدَىٰ وَفَرِيقًا حَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةُ ۗ إِنَّهُمُ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ أَوْلِيَآءَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ farīqan hadā wafarīqan ḥaqqa `alayhimuḍ ḍalālah ۗ innahumut-takhadhush shayāṭīna awliyā-a min dūnillāhi wayaḥsabūna annahum muhtadūn A part [of mankind] He has guided and a part has deserved [to be consigned to] error, for they took devils for guardians instead of Allah, and supposed they were guided.
31
يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ خُذُوا۟ زِينَتَكُمْ عِندَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ وَكُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ وَلَا تُسْرِفُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ yābanī ādama khudhū zīnatakum `inda kulli masjidin wakulū washrabū walā tusrifū ۚ innahu lā yuḥibbul musrifīn O Children of Adam! Put on your adornment on every occasion of prayer, and eat and drink, but do not waste; indeed, He does not like the wasteful.
32
قُلْ مَنْ حَرَّمَ زِينَةَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَخْرَجَ لِعِبَادِهِۦ وَٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ مِنَ ٱلرِّزْقِ ۚ قُلْ هِىَ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا خَالِصَةً يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۗ كَذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَعْلَمُونَ qul man ḥarrama zīnatallāhil latī akhraja li`ibādihi waṭ ṭayyibāti minar rizq ۚ qul hiya lilladhīna āmanū fil ḥayātid dunyā khāliṣatan yawmal qiyāmah ۗ kadhālika nufaṣṣilul-āyāti liqawmiy ya`lamūn Say, ‘Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has brought forth for His servants, and the good things of [His] provision?’ Say, ‘These are for the faithful in the life of this world, and exclusively for them on the Day of Resurrection.’ Thus do We elaborate the signs for a people who have knowledge.
33
قُلْ إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ رَبِّىَ ٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَمَا بَطَنَ وَٱلْإِثْمَ وَٱلْبَغْىَ بِغَيْرِ ٱلْحَقِّ وَأَن تُشْرِكُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يُنَزِّلْ بِهِۦ سُلْطَـٰنًا وَأَن تَقُولُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ qul innamā ḥarrama rabbiyal fawāḥisha mā ẓahara minhā wa mā baṭana wal-ithma wal baghya bighayril ḥaqqi wa-an tushrikū billāhi mā lam yunazzil bihi sulṭānan wa-an taqūlū `alallāhi mā lā ta`lamūn Say, ‘My Lord has only forbidden indecencies, the outward among them and the inward ones, and sin and undue aggression, and that you should ascribe to Allah partners for which He has not sent down any authority, and that you should attribute to Allah what you do not know.’
34
وَلِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلٌ ۖ فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهُمْ لَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ سَاعَةً ۖ وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ walikulli ummatin ajal ۖ fa-idhā jā-a ajaluhum lā yasta-khirūna sā`ah ۖ walā yastaqdimūn There is a [preordained] time for every nation: when their time comes, they shall not defer it by a single hour nor shall they advance it.
35
يَـٰبَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ إِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُمْ رُسُلٌ مِّنكُمْ يَقُصُّونَ عَلَيْكُمْ ءَايَـٰتِى ۙ فَمَنِ ٱتَّقَىٰ وَأَصْلَحَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ yābanī ādama immā ya-tiyannakum rusulun minkum yaquṣṣūna `alaykum āyātī famanit-taqā wa-aṣlaḥa falā khawfun `alayhim walā hum yaḥzanūn O Children of Adam! If there come to you apostles from among yourselves, recounting to you My signs, then those who are Godwary and righteous will have no fear, nor will they grieve.
36
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ عَنْهَآ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلنَّارِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ wal ladhīna kadhhabū bi-āyātinā wastakbarū `anhā ulā-ika aṣ-ḥābun nār ۖ hum fīhā khālidūn But those who deny Our signs and are disdainful of them, they shall be the inmates of the Fire and they shall remain in it [forever].
37
فَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوْ كَذَّبَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يَنَالُهُمْ نَصِيبُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَتْهُمْ رُسُلُنَا يَتَوَفَّوْنَهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ قَالُوا۟ ضَلُّوا۟ عَنَّا وَشَهِدُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ كَـٰفِرِينَ faman aẓlamu mimmanif-tarā `alallāhi kadhiban aw kadhhaba bi-āyātih ۚ ulā-ika yanāluhum naṣībuhum minal kitāb ۖ ḥattā idhā jā-at hum rusulunā yatawaffawnahum qālū ayna mā kuntum tad`ūna min dūnillāh ۖ qālū ḍallū `annā washahidū `alā anfusihim annahum kānū kāfirīn So who is a greater wrongdoer than him who fabricates a lie against Allah, or denies His signs? Their share, as decreed in the Book, shall reach them. When Our messengers come to take them away, they will say, ‘Where is that which you used to invoke besides Allah?’ They will say, ‘They have forsaken us,’ and they will testify against themselves that they were faithless.
38
قَالَ ٱدْخُلُوا۟ فِىٓ أُمَمٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِن قَبْلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ فِى ٱلنَّارِ ۖ كُلَّمَا دَخَلَتْ أُمَّةٌ لَّعَنَتْ أُخْتَهَا ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا ٱدَّارَكُوا۟ فِيهَا جَمِيعًا قَالَتْ أُخْرَىٰهُمْ لِأُولَىٰهُمْ رَبَّنَا هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ أَضَلُّونَا فَـَٔاتِهِمْ عَذَابًا ضِعْفًا مِّنَ ٱلنَّارِ ۖ قَالَ لِكُلٍّ ضِعْفٌ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تَعْلَمُونَ qālad-khulū fī umamin qad khalat min qablikum minal jinni wal-insi fin nār ۖ kullamā dakhalat ummatun la`anat ukhtahā ۖ ḥattā idhad-dārakū fīhā jamī`an qālat ukhrāhum li-ūlāhum rabbanā hā-ulā-i aḍallūnā fa-ātihim `adhāban ḍi`fan minan nār ۖ qāla likullin ḍi`fun walākin lā ta`lamūn He will say, ‘Enter the Fire, along with the nations of jinn and humans who passed before you!’ Every time that a nation enters [hell], it will curse its sister [nation]. When they all rejoin in it, the last of them will say about the first of them, ‘Our Lord, it was they who led us astray; so give them a double punishment of the Fire.’ He will say, ‘It is double for each [of you], but you do not know.’
39
وَقَالَتْ أُولَىٰهُمْ لِأُخْرَىٰهُمْ فَمَا كَانَ لَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا مِن فَضْلٍ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْسِبُونَ waqālat ūlāhum li-ukhrāhum famā kāna lakum `alaynā min faḍlin fadhūqul `adhāba bimā kuntum taksibūn And the first of them will say to the last of them, ‘You have no merit over us! So taste the punishment because of what you used to earn.’

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ عَنْهَا لَا تُفَتَّحُ لَهُمْ أَبْوَٰبُ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَلَا يَدْخُلُونَ ٱلْجَنَّةَ حَتَّىٰ يَلِجَ ٱلْجَمَلُ فِى سَمِّ ٱلْخِيَاطِ ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ innal ladhīna kadhhabū bi-āyātinā wastakbarū `anhā lā tufattaḥu lahum abwābus samā-i walā yadkhulūnal jannata ḥattā yalijal jamalu fī sammil khiyāṭ ۚ wakadhālika najzil mujrimīn Indeed, those who deny Our signs and are disdainful of them—the gates of the heaven will not be opened for them, nor shall they enter paradise until the camel passes through the needle’s eye, and thus do We requite the guilty.
41
لَهُم مِّن جَهَنَّمَ مِهَادٌ وَمِن فَوْقِهِمْ غَوَاشٍ ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ lahum min jahannama mihādun wa min fawqihim ghawāsh ۚ wakadhālika najziẓ ẓālimīn They shall have hell for their resting place, and over them shall be sheets [of fire], and thus do We requite the wrongdoers.
42
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَآ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ wal ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti lā nukallifu nafsan illā wus`ahā ulā-ika aṣ-ḥābul jannah ۖ hum fīhā khālidūn As for those who have faith and do righteous deeds—We task no soul except according to its capacity—they shall be the inhabitants of paradise, and they shall remain in it [forever].

They will say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah, who guided us to this. We would have never been guided had not Allah guided us. Our Lord’s apostles had certainly brought the truth.’ And the call would be made to them: ‘This is paradise, which you have been given to inherit because of what you used to do!’

Then a caller will announce in their midst, ‘May Allah’s curse be on the wrongdoers!’

And on the Elevations will be certain men who recognize each of them by their mark. They will call out to the inhabitants of paradise, ‘Peace be to you!’ (They will not have entered it, though they would be eager to do so.

So today, We will forget them as they forgot the encounter of this day of theirs, and as they used to impugn Our signs.

وَلَقَدْ جِئْنَـٰهُم بِكِتَـٰبٍ فَصَّلْنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ هُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ walaqad ji-nāhum bikitābin faṣṣalnāhu `alā `il-min hudan waraḥmatan liqawmiy yu-minūn Certainly We have brought them a Book, which We have elaborated with knowledge, as a guidance and mercy for a people who have faith.

The day when its fulfillment comes, those who had forgotten it before will say, ‘Our Lord’s apostles had certainly brought the truth. If only we had some intercessors to intercede for us, or we would be returned, so that we may do differently from what we did!’ They have certainly ruined their souls, and what they used to fabricate has forsaken them.
54
إِنَّ رَبَّكُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ ثُمَّ ٱسْتَوَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْعَرْشِ يُغْشِى ٱلَّيْلَ ٱلنَّهَارَ يَطْلُبُهُۥ حَثِيثًا وَٱلشَّمْسَ وَٱلْقَمَرَ وَٱلنُّجُومَ مُسَخَّرَٰتٍۭ بِأَمْرِهِۦٓ ۗ أَلَا لَهُ ٱلْخَلْقُ وَٱلْأَمْرُ ۗ تَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ inna rabbakumullāhul ladhī khalaqas samāwāti wal-arḍa fī sittati ayyāmin thummas-tawā `alal-`arshi yughshil laylan nahāra yaṭlubuhu ḥathīthan wash shamsa wal qamara wan nujūma musakhharātin bi-amrih ۗ alā lahul khalqu wal-amr ۗ tabārakallāhu rabbul `ālamīn Indeed your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and then settled on the Throne. He draws the night’s cover over the day, which pursues it swiftly, and [He created] the sun, the moon, and the stars, [all of them] disposed by His command. Look! All creation and command belong to Him. Blessed is Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
55
ٱدْعُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ تَضَرُّعًا وَخُفْيَةً ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُعْتَدِينَ ud-`ū rabbakum taḍarru`an wakhufyah ۚ innahu lā yuḥibbul mu`tadīn Supplicate your Lord, beseechingly and secretly. Indeed, He does not like the transgressors.
56
وَلَا تُفْسِدُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ بَعْدَ إِصْلَـٰحِهَا وَٱدْعُوهُ خَوْفًا وَطَمَعًا ۚ إِنَّ رَحْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ قَرِيبٌ مِّنَ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ walā tufsidū fil-arḍi ba`da iṣlāḥihā wad`ūhu khawfan waṭama`ā ۚ inna raḥmatallāhi qarībun minal muḥsinīn And do not cause corruption on the earth after its restoration, and supplicate Him with fear and hope: indeed Allah’s mercy is close to the virtuous.
57
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُرْسِلُ ٱلرِّيَـٰحَ بُشْرًۢا بَيْنَ يَدَىْ رَحْمَتِهِۦ ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَآ أَقَلَّتْ سَحَابًا ثِقَالًا سُقْنَـٰهُ لِبَلَدٍ مَّيِّتٍ فَأَنزَلْنَا بِهِ ٱلْمَآءَ فَأَخْرَجْنَا بِهِۦ مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نُخْرِجُ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ wahuwal ladhī yursilur riyāḥa bushran bayna yaday raḥmatih ۖ ḥattā idhā aqallat saḥāban thiqālan suqnāhu libaladin mayyitin fa-anzalnā bihil mā-a fa-akhrajnā bihi min kullith thamarāt ۚ kadhālika nukhrijul mawtā la`allakum tadhakkarūn It is He who sends forth the winds as harbingers of His mercy. When they bear [rain-] laden clouds, We drive them toward a dead land and send down water on it, and with it We bring forth all kinds of crops. Thus shall We raise the dead; maybe you will take admonition.
58
وَٱلْبَلَدُ ٱلطَّيِّبُ يَخْرُجُ نَبَاتُهُۥ بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهِۦ ۖ وَٱلَّذِى خَبُثَ لَا يَخْرُجُ إِلَّا نَكِدًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نُصَرِّفُ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَشْكُرُونَ wal baladuṭ ṭayyibu yakhruju nabātuhu bi-idhni rabbih ۖ wal ladhī khabutha lā yakhruju illā nakidā ۚ kadhālika nuṣarriful-āyāti liqawmiy yashkurūn The good land—its vegetation comes out by the permission of its Lord, and as for that which is bad, it does not come out except sparsely. Thus do We paraphrase the signs variously for a people who give thanks.
59
لَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ فَقَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ laqad arsalnā nūḥan ilā qawmihi faqāla yāqawmi'-budullāha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruhu innī akhāfu `alaykum `adhāba yawmin `aẓīm Certainly We sent Noah to his people. He said, ‘O my people, worship Allah! You have no other god besides Him. Indeed I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous day.’
60
قَالَ ٱلْمَلَأُ مِن قَوْمِهِۦٓ إِنَّا لَنَرَىٰكَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ qālal-mala-u min qawmihi innā lanarāka fī ḍalālin mubīn The elite of his people said, ‘Indeed we see you in manifest error.’

64

So We delivered him and those who were with him in the ark, and We drowned those who denied Our signs. Indeed, they were a blind lot.
65

He said, ‘O my people, worship Allah! You have no other god besides Him. Will you not then be wary [of Him]?’
66

70

Let her alone to graze [freely] in Allah’s land, and do not cause her any harm, for then you shall be seized by a painful punishment.

وَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ إِذْ جَعَلَكُمْ خُلَفَآءَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ عَادٍ وَبَوَّأَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ تَتَّخِذُونَ مِن سُهُولِهَا قُصُورًا وَتَنْحِتُونَ ٱلْجِبَالَ بُيُوتًا ۖ فَٱذْكُرُوٓا۟ ءَالَآءَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ wadhkurū idh ja`alakum khulafā-a min ba`di `ādin wabawwa-akum fil-arḍi tattakhidhūna min suhūlihā quṣūran watanḥitūnal jibāla buyūtā ۖ fadhkurū ālā-allāhi walā ta`thaw fil-arḍi mufsidīn Remember when He made you successors after [the people of] ‘Ad, and settled you in the land: you build palaces in its plains, and hew houses out of the mountains. So remember Allah’s bounties, and do not act wickedly on the earth, causing corruption.’
75
قَالَ ٱلْمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ مِن قَوْمِهِۦ لِلَّذِينَ ٱسْتُضْعِفُوا۟ لِمَنْ ءَامَنَ مِنْهُمْ أَتَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ صَـٰلِحًا مُّرْسَلٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ ۚ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا بِمَآ أُرْسِلَ بِهِۦ مُؤْمِنُونَ qālal-mala-ul ladhīnas-takbarū min qawmihi lilladhīnas-tuḍ`ifū liman āmana minhum ata`lamūna anna ṣāliḥan mursalun min rabbih ۚ qālū innā bimā ursila bihi mu-minūn The elite of his people who were arrogant said to those who were oppressed—to those among them who had faith—‘Do you know that Salih has been sent by his Lord?’ They said, ‘We indeed believe in what he has been sent with.’
76
قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَكْبَرُوٓا۟ إِنَّا بِٱلَّذِىٓ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦ كَـٰفِرُونَ qālal ladhīnas-takbarū innā bil ladhī āmantum bihi kāfirūn Those who were arrogant said, ‘We indeed disbelieve in what you have believed.’
77
فَعَقَرُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةَ وَعَتَوْا۟ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰصَـٰلِحُ ٱئْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَآ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ fa`aqarun nāqata wa`ataw `an amri rabbihim waqālū yāṣāliḥu-tinā bimā ta`idunā in kunta minal mursalīn So they hamstrung the She-camel and defied the command of their Lord, and they said, ‘O Salih, bring us what you threaten us with, if you are one of the apostles.’
78
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلرَّجْفَةُ فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ فِى دَارِهِمْ جَـٰثِمِينَ fa-akhadhat-humur rajfatu fa-aṣbaḥū fī dārihim jāthimīn Thereupon the earthquake seized them, and they lay lifeless prostrate in their homes.
79
فَتَوَلَّىٰ عَنْهُمْ وَقَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ لَقَدْ أَبْلَغْتُكُمْ رِسَالَةَ رَبِّى وَنَصَحْتُ لَكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُحِبُّونَ ٱلنَّـٰصِحِينَ fatawallā `anhum waqāla yāqawmi laqad ablaghtukum risālata rabbī wanaṣaḥtu lakum walākin lā tuḥibbūnan nāṣiḥīn So he abandoned them [to their fate], and said, ‘O my people! Certainly I communicated to you the message of my Lord, and I was your well-wisher, but you did not like well-wishers.’
80
وَلُوطًا إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ أَتَأْتُونَ ٱلْفَـٰحِشَةَ مَا سَبَقَكُم بِهَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِّنَ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ walūṭan idh qāla liqawmihi ata-tūnal fāḥishata mā sabaqakum bihā min aḥadin minal `ālamīn And Lot, when he said to his people, ‘What! They are indeed a puritanical lot.’
83

84
وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّطَرًا ۖ فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ wa-amṭarnā `alayhim maṭarā ۖ fanẓur kayfa kāna `āqibatul mujrimīn Then We poured down upon them a rain [of stones]. So observe how was the fate of the guilty!

He said, ‘O my people, worship Allah! You have no other god besides Him. There has certainly come to you a manifest proof from your Lord. Observe fully the measure and the balance, and do not cheat the people of their goods, and do not cause corruption on the earth after its restoration. That is better for you, if you are faithful.
86

Judge justly between us and our people, and You are the best of judges!’

95

96
وَلَوْ أَنَّ أَهْلَ ٱلْقُرَىٰٓ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱتَّقَوْا۟ لَفَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَرَكَـٰتٍ مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَـٰكِن كَذَّبُوا۟ فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ walaw anna ahlal-qurā āmanū wattaqaw lafataḥnā `alayhim barakātin minas samā-i wal-arḍi walākin kadhhabū fa-akhadhnāhum bimā kānū yaksibūn If the people of the towns had been faithful and Godwary, We would have opened to them blessings from the heaven and the earth. But they denied; so We seized them because of what they used to earn.
97

Their apostles certainly brought them manifest proofs, but they were not the ones to believe in what they had denied earlier. Thus does Allah put a seal on the hearts of the faithless.
102
وَمَا وَجَدْنَا لِأَكْثَرِهِم مِّنْ عَهْدٍ ۖ وَإِن وَجَدْنَآ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَفَـٰسِقِينَ wa mā wajadnā li-aktharihim min `ahd ۖ wa in wajadnā aktharahum lafāsiqīn We did not find in most of them any [loyalty to] covenants. Indeed, We found most of them to be transgressors.
103
ثُمَّ بَعَثْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِم مُّوسَىٰ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ فَظَلَمُوا۟ بِهَا ۖ فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ thumma ba`athnā min ba`dihim mūsā bi-āyātinā ilā fir`awna wa mala-ihi faẓalamū bihā ۖ fanẓur kayfa kāna `āqibatul mufsidīn Then after them We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his elite, but they wronged them. So observe how was the fate of the agents of corruption!
104

106

107
فَأَلْقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِىَ ثُعْبَانٌ مُّبِينٌ fa-alqā `aṣāhu fa-idhā hiya thu`bānun mubīn Thereat he threw down his staff, and behold, it became a manifest python.
108

109
قَالَ ٱلْمَلَأُ مِن قَوْمِ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَسَـٰحِرٌ عَلِيمٌ qālal-mala-u min qawmi fir`awna inna hādhā lasāḥirun `alīm The elite of Pharaoh’s people said, ‘This is indeed an expert magician;

111

113
وَجَآءَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ فِرْعَوْنَ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ لَنَا لَأَجْرًا إِن كُنَّا نَحْنُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ wajā-as saḥaratu fir`awna qālū inna lanā la-ajran in kunnā naḥnul ghālibīn And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, ‘We shall indeed have a reward if we were to be the victors?’
114
قَالَ نَعَمْ وَإِنَّكُمْ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ qāla na`am wa innakum laminal muqarrabīn He said, ‘Of course! And indeed you shall be among those near [to me].’
115
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ إِمَّآ أَن تُلْقِىَ وَإِمَّآ أَن نَّكُونَ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُلْقِينَ qālū yāmūsā immā an tulqiya wa immā an nakūna naḥnul mulqīn They said, ‘O Moses, will you throw [first], or shall we throw?’
116
قَالَ أَلْقُوا۟ ۖ فَلَمَّآ أَلْقَوْا۟ سَحَرُوٓا۟ أَعْيُنَ ٱلنَّاسِ وَٱسْتَرْهَبُوهُمْ وَجَآءُو بِسِحْرٍ عَظِيمٍ qāla alqū ۖ falammā alqaw saḥarū a`yunan nāsi wastarhabūhum wajā-ū bisiḥrin `aẓīm He said, ‘Throw [yours].’ So when they threw, they bewitched the people’s eyes and overawed them, producing a tremendous magic.
117
وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَلْقِ عَصَاكَ ۖ فَإِذَا هِىَ تَلْقَفُ مَا يَأْفِكُونَ wa-awḥaynā ilā mūsā an alqi `aṣāk ۖ fa-idhā hiya talqafu mā ya-fikūn And We signalled to Moses: ‘Throw down your staff.’ And behold, it was swallowing what they had faked.
118
فَوَقَعَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَبَطَلَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ fawaqa`al ḥaqqu wabaṭala mā kānū ya`malūn So the truth came out, and what they had wrought was reduced to naught.
119
فَغُلِبُوا۟ هُنَالِكَ وَٱنقَلَبُوا۟ صَـٰغِرِينَ faghulibū hunālika wanqalabū ṣāghirīn Thereat they were vanquished, and they retreated, humiliated.
120
وَأُلْقِىَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ سَـٰجِدِينَ wa-ulqiyas saḥaratu sājidīn And the magicians fell down in prostration.
121
قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ qālū āmannā birabbil `ālamīn They said, ‘We have believed in the Lord of all the worlds,
122
رَبِّ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ rabbi mūsā wahārūn the Lord of Moses and Aaron.’
123
قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ ءَامَنتُم بِهِۦ قَبْلَ أَنْ ءَاذَنَ لَكُمْ ۖ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَمَكْرٌ مَّكَرْتُمُوهُ فِى ٱلْمَدِينَةِ لِتُخْرِجُوا۟ مِنْهَآ أَهْلَهَا ۖ فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ qāla fir`awnu āmantum bihi qabla an ādhana lakum ۖ inna hādhā lamakrun makartumūhu fil madīnati litukhrijū minhā ahlahā ۖ fasawfa ta`lamūn Pharaoh said, ‘Do you profess faith in Him before I may permit you? It is indeed a plot you have devised in the city to expel its people from it. Soon you will know [the consequences]!
124
لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم مِّنْ خِلَـٰفٍ ثُمَّ لَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ la-uqaṭṭi`anna aydiyakum wa-arjulakum min khilāfin thumma la-uṣallibannakum ajma`īn Surely I will cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and then I will surely crucify all of you.’
125
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا مُنقَلِبُونَ qālū innā ilā rabbinā munqalibūn They said, ‘Indeed we shall return to our Lord.
126
وَمَا تَنقِمُ مِنَّآ إِلَّآ أَنْ ءَامَنَّا بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّنَا لَمَّا جَآءَتْنَا ۚ رَبَّنَآ أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسْلِمِينَ wa mā tanqimu minnā illā an āmannā bi-āyāti rabbinā lammā jā-at nā ۚ rabbanā afrigh `alaynā ṣabran watawaffanā muslimīn You are vindictive toward us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord, when they came to us.’ ‘Our Lord! Pour patience upon us, and grant us to die as Muslims.’
127
وَقَالَ ٱلْمَلَأُ مِن قَوْمِ فِرْعَوْنَ أَتَذَرُ مُوسَىٰ وَقَوْمَهُۥ لِيُفْسِدُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَيَذَرَكَ وَءَالِهَتَكَ ۚ قَالَ سَنُقَتِّلُ أَبْنَآءَهُمْ وَنَسْتَحْىِۦ نِسَآءَهُمْ وَإِنَّا فَوْقَهُمْ قَـٰهِرُونَ waqālal-mala-u min qawmi fir`awna atadharu mūsā waqawmahu liyufsidū fil-arḍi wayadharaka wa-ālihatak ۚ qāla sanuqattilu abnā-ahum wanastaḥyī nisā-ahum wa innā fawqahum qāhirūn The elite of Pharaoh’s people said, ‘Will you leave Moses and his people to cause corruption in the land, and to abandon you and your gods?’ He said, ‘We will kill their sons and spare their women, and indeed we are dominant over them.’
128
قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِ ٱسْتَعِينُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱصْبِرُوٓا۟ ۖ إِنَّ ٱلْأَرْضَ لِلَّهِ يُورِثُهَا مَن يَشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ وَٱلْعَـٰقِبَةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ qāla mūsā liqawmihis-ta`īnū billāhi waṣbirū ۖ innal-arḍa lillāhi yūrithuhā man yashā-u min `ibādih ۖ wal `āqibatu lil-muttaqīn Moses said to his people, ‘Turn to Allah for help and be patient. The earth indeed belongs to Allah, and He gives its inheritance to whomever He wishes of His servants, and the outcome will be in favour of the Godwary.’
129
قَالُوٓا۟ أُوذِينَا مِن قَبْلِ أَن تَأْتِيَنَا وَمِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا جِئْتَنَا ۚ قَالَ عَسَىٰ رَبُّكُمْ أَن يُهْلِكَ عَدُوَّكُمْ وَيَسْتَخْلِفَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَيَنظُرَ كَيْفَ تَعْمَلُونَ qālū ūdhīnā min qabli an ta-tiyanā wa min ba`di mā ji-tanā ۚ qāla `asā rabbukum an yuhlika `aduwwakum wayastakhlifakum fil-arḍi fayanẓura kayfa ta`malūn They said, ‘We were tormented before you came to us and [also] after you came to us.’ He said, ‘Maybe your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you successors in the land, and then He will see how you act.’
130
وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَآ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ بِٱلسِّنِينَ وَنَقْصٍ مِّنَ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ walaqad akhadhnā āla fir`awna bis sinīna wanaqṣin minath thamarāti la`allahum yadhhakkarūn Certainly We afflicted Pharaoh’s clan with droughts and loss of produce, so that they may take admonition.
131
فَإِذَا جَآءَتْهُمُ ٱلْحَسَنَةُ قَالُوا۟ لَنَا هَـٰذِهِۦ ۖ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ يَطَّيَّرُوا۟ بِمُوسَىٰ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥٓ ۗ أَلَآ إِنَّمَا طَـٰٓئِرُهُمْ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ fa-idhā jā-at humul ḥasanatu qālū lanā hādhih ۖ wa in tuṣibhum sayyi-atun yaṭṭayyarū bimūsā wa man ma`ah ۗ alā innamā ṭā-iruhum `indallāhi walākinna aktharahum lā ya`lamūn But whenever any good came to them, they would say, ‘This is our due.’ And if any ill visited them, they took it for ill omens attending Moses and those who were with him. (Look! Indeed the cause of their ill omens is from Allah, but most of them do not know.)
132
وَقَالُوا۟ مَهْمَا تَأْتِنَا بِهِۦ مِنْ ءَايَةٍ لِّتَسْحَرَنَا بِهَا فَمَا نَحْنُ لَكَ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ waqālū mahmā ta-tinā bihi min āyatin litas-ḥaranā bihā famā naḥnu laka bimu-minīn And they said, ‘Whatever sign you may bring us to bewitch us, we are not going to believe you.’
133
فَأَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلطُّوفَانَ وَٱلْجَرَادَ وَٱلْقُمَّلَ وَٱلضَّفَادِعَ وَٱلدَّمَ ءَايَـٰتٍ مُّفَصَّلَـٰتٍ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا مُّجْرِمِينَ fa-arsalnā `alayhimuṭ ṭūfāna wal jarāda wal qummala waḍ ḍafādi`a wad dama āyātin mufaṣṣalātin fastakbarū wakānū qawman mujrimīn So We sent against them a flood and locusts, lice, frogs and blood, as distinct signs. But they acted arrogantly, and they were a guilty lot.
134
وَلَمَّا وَقَعَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلرِّجْزُ قَالُوا۟ يَـٰمُوسَى ٱدْعُ لَنَا رَبَّكَ بِمَا عَهِدَ عِندَكَ ۖ لَئِن كَشَفْتَ عَنَّا ٱلرِّجْزَ لَنُؤْمِنَنَّ لَكَ وَلَنُرْسِلَنَّ مَعَكَ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ walammā waqa`a `alayhimur rijzu qālū yāmūsad-`u lanā rabbaka bimā `ahida `indak ۖ la-in kashafta `annar rijza lanu-minanna laka walanursilanna ma`aka banī isrā-iyl Whenever a plague fell upon them, they would say, ‘O Moses, invoke your Lord for us by the covenant He has made with you. If you remove the plague from us, we will certainly believe in you and let the Children of Israel go along with you.’
135
فَلَمَّا كَشَفْنَا عَنْهُمُ ٱلرِّجْزَ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ هُم بَـٰلِغُوهُ إِذَا هُمْ يَنكُثُونَ falammā kashafnā `anhumur rijza ilā ajalin hum bālighūhu idhā hum yankuthūn But when We had removed the plague from them until a term that they should have completed, behold, they broke their promise.
136
فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ فَأَغْرَقْنَـٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ بِأَنَّهُمْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَكَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا غَـٰفِلِينَ fantaqamnā minhum fa-aghraqnāhum fil yammi bi-annahum kadhhabū bi-āyātinā wakānū `anhā ghāfilīn So We took vengeance on them and drowned them in the sea, for they denied Our signs and were oblivious to them.
137
وَأَوْرَثْنَا ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَانُوا۟ يُسْتَضْعَفُونَ مَشَـٰرِقَ ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَغَـٰرِبَهَا ٱلَّتِى بَـٰرَكْنَا فِيهَا ۖ وَتَمَّتْ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ عَلَىٰ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ بِمَا صَبَرُوا۟ ۖ وَدَمَّرْنَا مَا كَانَ يَصْنَعُ فِرْعَوْنُ وَقَوْمُهُۥ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْرِشُونَ wa-awrathnal qawmal ladhīna kānū yustaḍ`afūna mashāriqal-arḍi wa maghāribahal latī bāraknā fīhā ۖ watammat kalimatu rabbikal ḥusnā `alā banī isrā-iyla bimā ṣabarū ۖ wadammarnā mā kāna yaṣna`u fir`awnu waqawmuhu wa mā kānū ya`rishūn We made the people who were abased the heirs to the east and west of the land which We had blessed, and your Lord’s best word [of promise] was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because of their patience, and We destroyed what Pharaoh and his people had built and what they used to erect.
138
وَجَـٰوَزْنَا بِبَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ ٱلْبَحْرَ فَأَتَوْا۟ عَلَىٰ قَوْمٍ يَعْكُفُونَ عَلَىٰٓ أَصْنَامٍ لَّهُمْ ۚ قَالُوا۟ يَـٰمُوسَى ٱجْعَل لَّنَآ إِلَـٰهًا كَمَا لَهُمْ ءَالِهَةٌ ۚ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ تَجْهَلُونَ wajāwaznā bibanī isrā-iylal-baḥra fa-ataw `alā qawmiy ya`kufūna `alā aṣnāmin lahum ۚ qālū yāmūsaj-`al lanā ilāhan kamā lahum ālihah ۚ qāla innakum qawmun tajhalūn We carried the Children of Israel across the sea, whereat they came upon a people cleaving to certain idols that they had. They said, ‘O Moses, make for us a god like the gods that they have.’ He said, ‘You are indeed an ignorant lot.
139
إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مُتَبَّرٌ مَّا هُمْ فِيهِ وَبَـٰطِلٌ مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ inna hā-ulā-i mutabbarun mā hum fīhi wabāṭilun mā kānū ya`malūn What they are engaged in is indeed bound to perish, and what they have been doing shall come to naught.’
140
قَالَ أَغَيْرَ ٱللَّهِ أَبْغِيكُمْ إِلَـٰهًا وَهُوَ فَضَّلَكُمْ عَلَى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ qāla aghayrallāhi abghīkum ilāhan wahuwa faḍḍalakum `alal-`ālamīn He said, ‘Shall I find you a god other than Allah, while He has graced you over all the nations?’
141
وَإِذْ أَنجَيْنَـٰكُم مِّنْ ءَالِ فِرْعَوْنَ يَسُومُونَكُمْ سُوٓءَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ۖ يُقَتِّلُونَ أَبْنَآءَكُمْ وَيَسْتَحْيُونَ نِسَآءَكُمْ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكُم بَلَآءٌ مِّن رَّبِّكُمْ عَظِيمٌ wa idh anjaynākum min āli fir`awna yasūmūnakum sū al `adhāb ۖ yuqattilūna abnā-akum wayastaḥyūna nisā-akum ۚ wafī dhālikum balā-un min rabbikum `aẓīm And when We delivered you from Pharaoh’s clan who inflicted on you a terrible torment, slaughtering your sons and sparing your women, and there was a great test in that from your Lord.
142
وَوَٰعَدْنَا مُوسَىٰ ثَلَـٰثِينَ لَيْلَةً وَأَتْمَمْنَـٰهَا بِعَشْرٍ فَتَمَّ مِيقَـٰتُ رَبِّهِۦٓ أَرْبَعِينَ لَيْلَةً ۚ وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِأَخِيهِ هَـٰرُونَ ٱخْلُفْنِى فِى قَوْمِى وَأَصْلِحْ وَلَا تَتَّبِعْ سَبِيلَ ٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ wawā`adnā mūsā thalāthīna laylatan wa-atmamnāhā bi`ashrin fatamma mīqātu rabbihi arba`īna laylah ۚ waqāla mūsā li-akhīhi hārūnakh-lufnī fī qawmī wa-aṣliḥ walā tattabi` sabīlal-mufsidīn We made an appointment with Moses for thirty nights, and completed them with ten [more]; thus the tryst of his Lord was completed in forty nights. And Moses said to Aaron, his brother, ‘Be my successor among my people, and set things right and do not follow the way of the agents of corruption.’
143
وَلَمَّا جَآءَ مُوسَىٰ لِمِيقَـٰتِنَا وَكَلَّمَهُۥ رَبُّهُۥ قَالَ رَبِّ أَرِنِىٓ أَنظُرْ إِلَيْكَ ۚ قَالَ لَن تَرَىٰنِى وَلَـٰكِنِ ٱنظُرْ إِلَى ٱلْجَبَلِ فَإِنِ ٱسْتَقَرَّ مَكَانَهُۥ فَسَوْفَ تَرَىٰنِى ۚ فَلَمَّا تَجَلَّىٰ رَبُّهُۥ لِلْجَبَلِ جَعَلَهُۥ دَكًّا وَخَرَّ مُوسَىٰ صَعِقًا ۚ فَلَمَّآ أَفَاقَ قَالَ سُبْحَـٰنَكَ تُبْتُ إِلَيْكَ وَأَنَا۠ أَوَّلُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ walammā jā-a mūsā limīqātinā wakallamahu rabbuhu qāla rabbi arinī anẓur ilayk ۚ qāla lan tarānī walākinin-ẓur ilal-jabali fa-inis-taqarra makānahu fasawfa tarānī ۚ falammā tajallā rabbuhu liljabali ja`alahu dakkan wakharra mūsā ṣa`iqā ۚ falammā afāqa qāla subḥānaka tubtu ilayka wa-ana awwalul mu-minīn When Moses arrived at Our tryst and his Lord spoke to him, he said, ‘My Lord, show [Yourself] to me, that I may look at You!’ He said, ‘You shall not see Me. But look at the mountain: if it abides in its place, then you will see Me.’ So when his Lord disclosed Himself to the mountain, He levelled it, and Moses fell down swooning. When he recovered, he said, ‘Immaculate are You! I turn to You in penitence, and I am the first of the faithful.’
144
قَالَ يَـٰمُوسَىٰٓ إِنِّى ٱصْطَفَيْتُكَ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ بِرِسَـٰلَـٰتِى وَبِكَلَـٰمِى فَخُذْ مَآ ءَاتَيْتُكَ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ qāla yāmūsā inniṣ-ṭafaytuka `alan nāsi birisālātī wabikalāmī fakhudh mā ātaytuka wakun minash shākirīn He said, ‘O Moses, I have chosen you over the people with My messages and My speech. So take what I give you, and be among the grateful.’
145
وَكَتَبْنَا لَهُۥ فِى ٱلْأَلْوَاحِ مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مَّوْعِظَةً وَتَفْصِيلًا لِّكُلِّ شَىْءٍ فَخُذْهَا بِقُوَّةٍ وَأْمُرْ قَوْمَكَ يَأْخُذُوا۟ بِأَحْسَنِهَا ۚ سَأُو۟رِيكُمْ دَارَ ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَ wakatabnā lahu fil-alwāḥi min kulli shay-in maw`iẓatan watafṣīlal likulli shay-in fakhudh-hā biquwwatin wa-mur qawmaka ya-khudhū bi-aḥsanihā ۚ sa-urīkum dāral fāsiqīn We wrote for him in the tablets advice concerning all things and an elaboration of all things, [and We said], ‘Hold on to them with power, and bid your people to hold on to the best of [what is in] them. Soon I shall show you the abode of the transgressors.
146

That is because they deny Our signs and are oblivious to them.’
147
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَلِقَآءِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ حَبِطَتْ أَعْمَـٰلُهُمْ ۚ هَلْ يُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ wal ladhīna kadhhabū bi-āyātinā waliqā-il-ākhirati ḥabiṭat a`māluhum ۚ hal yujzawna illā mā kānū ya`malūn Those who deny Our signs and the encounter of the Hereafter, their works have failed. Shall they not be requited for what they used to do?
148
وَٱتَّخَذَ قَوْمُ مُوسَىٰ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ مِنْ حُلِيِّهِمْ عِجْلًا جَسَدًا لَّهُۥ خُوَارٌ ۚ أَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّهُۥ لَا يُكَلِّمُهُمْ وَلَا يَهْدِيهِمْ سَبِيلًا ۘ ٱتَّخَذُوهُ وَكَانُوا۟ ظَـٰلِمِينَ wattakhadha qawmu mūsā min ba`dihi min ḥuliyyihim `ijlan jasadal lahu khuwār ۚ alam yaraw annahu lā yukallimuhum walā yahdīhim sabīlā ۘ it-takhadhūhu wakānū ẓālimīn The people of Moses took up in his absence a calf [cast] from their ornaments—a body that gave out a lowing sound. Did they not regard that it did not speak to them, nor did it guide them to any way? They took it up [for worship] and they were wrongdoers.
149
وَلَمَّا سُقِطَ فِىٓ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَرَأَوْا۟ أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ ضَلُّوا۟ قَالُوا۟ لَئِن لَّمْ يَرْحَمْنَا رَبُّنَا وَيَغْفِرْ لَنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْخَـٰسِرِينَ walammā suqiṭa fī aydīhim wara-aw annahum qad ḍallū qālū la-in lam yarḥamnā rabbunā wayaghfir lanā lanakūnanna minal khāsirīn But when they became remorseful and realised they had gone astray, they said, ‘Should our Lord have no mercy on us, and forgive us, we will be surely among the losers.’
150
وَلَمَّا رَجَعَ مُوسَىٰٓ إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ غَضْبَـٰنَ أَسِفًا قَالَ بِئْسَمَا خَلَفْتُمُونِى مِنۢ بَعْدِىٓ ۖ أَعَجِلْتُمْ أَمْرَ رَبِّكُمْ ۖ وَأَلْقَى ٱلْأَلْوَاحَ وَأَخَذَ بِرَأْسِ أَخِيهِ يَجُرُّهُۥٓ إِلَيْهِ ۚ قَالَ ٱبْنَ أُمَّ إِنَّ ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱسْتَضْعَفُونِى وَكَادُوا۟ يَقْتُلُونَنِى فَلَا تُشْمِتْ بِىَ ٱلْأَعْدَآءَ وَلَا تَجْعَلْنِى مَعَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ walammā raja`a mūsā ilā qawmihi ghaḍbāna asifan qāla bi-samā khalaftumūnī min ba`dī ۖ a`ajiltum amra rabbikum ۖ wa-alqal-alwāḥa wa-akhadha bira-si akhīhi yajurruhu ilayh ۚ qālab-na umma innal qawmas-taḍ`afūnī wakādū yaqtulūnanī falā tushmit biyal-a`dā-a walā taj`alnī ma`al qawmiẓ ẓālimīn When Moses returned to his people, angry and indignant, he said, ‘Evil has been your conduct in my absence! Would you hasten on the edict of your Lord?’ He threw down the tablets and seized his brother by the head, pulling him towards himself. He said, ‘Son of my mother, indeed this people thought me to be weak, and they were about to kill me. So do not let the enemies gloat over me, and do not take me with the wrongdoing lot.’
151
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱغْفِرْ لِى وَلِأَخِى وَأَدْخِلْنَا فِى رَحْمَتِكَ ۖ وَأَنتَ أَرْحَمُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ qāla rabbigh-fir lī wali-akhī wa-adkhilnā fī raḥmatik ۖ wa-anta arḥamur rāḥimīn He said, ‘My Lord, forgive me and my brother, and admit us into Your mercy, for You are the most merciful of the merciful.
152
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ ٱلْعِجْلَ سَيَنَالُهُمْ غَضَبٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِمْ وَذِلَّةٌ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا ۚ وَكَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُفْتَرِينَ innal ladhīnat-takhadhul `ijla sayanāluhum ghaḍabun min rabbihim wadhillatun fil ḥayātid dunyā ۚ wakadhālika najzil muftarīn Indeed those who took up the calf [for worship] shall be overtaken by their Lord’s wrath and abasement in the life of the world.’ Thus do We requite the fabricators [of lies].
153
وَٱلَّذِينَ عَمِلُوا۟ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ ثُمَّ تَابُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِهَا وَءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهَا لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ wal ladhīna `amilus sayyi-āti thumma tābū min ba`dihā wa-āmanū inna rabbaka min ba`dihā laghafūrun raḥīm Yet [to] those who commit misdeeds but repent after that, and believe—indeed, after that, your Lord shall surely be all-forgiving, all-merciful.
154

Every tribe came to know its drinking-place. And We shaded them with clouds, and We sent down to them manna and quails: ‘Eat of the good things We have provided you.’ And they did not wrong Us, but they used to wrong [only] themselves.

So We sent against them a plague from the sky because of the wrongs they used to commit.

Was not the covenant of the Book taken with them that they shall not attribute anything to Allah except the truth? They have studied what is in it, and [know that] the abode of the Hereafter is better for those who are Godwary. Do you not exercise your reason?

Thereupon Satan pursued him, and he became one of the perverse.

So his parable is that of a dog: if you make for it, it lolls out its tongue, and if you let it alone, it lolls out its tongue. Such is the parable of the people who deny Our signs. So recount these narratives, so that they may reflect.
177

They are like cattle; indeed, they are more astray. It is they who are the heedless.

وَأُمْلِى لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ كَيْدِى مَتِينٌ wa-umlī lahum ۚ inna kaydī matīn And I will grant them respite, for My devising is indeed sure.
184
أَوَلَمْ يَتَفَكَّرُوا۟ ۗ مَا بِصَاحِبِهِم مِّن جِنَّةٍ ۚ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ awalam yatafakkarū ۗ mā biṣāḥibihim min jinnah ۚ in huwa illā nadhīrun mubīn Have they not reflected that there is no madness in their companion, [and that] he is just a manifest warner?
185
أَوَلَمْ يَنظُرُوا۟ فِى مَلَكُوتِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ مِن شَىْءٍ وَأَنْ عَسَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ قَدِ ٱقْتَرَبَ أَجَلُهُمْ ۖ فَبِأَىِّ حَدِيثٍۭ بَعْدَهُۥ يُؤْمِنُونَ awalam yanẓurū fī malakūtis samāwāti wal-arḍi wa mā khalaqallāhu min shay-in wa-an `asā an yakūna qadiq-taraba ajaluhum ۖ fabi-ayyi ḥadīthin ba`dahu yu-minūn Have they not contemplated the dominions of the heavens and the earth, and whatever things Allah has created, and that maybe their time has already drawn near? So what discourse will they believe after this?!
186
مَن يُضْلِلِ ٱللَّهُ فَلَا هَادِىَ لَهُۥ ۚ وَيَذَرُهُمْ فِى طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ man yuḍlilillāhu falā hādiya lah ۚ wayadharuhum fī ṭughyānihim ya`mahūn Whomever Allah leads astray has no guide, and He leaves them bewildered in their rebellion.

يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ عَنِ ٱلسَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَىٰهَا ۖ قُلْ إِنَّمَا عِلْمُهَا عِندَ رَبِّى ۖ لَا يُجَلِّيهَا لِوَقْتِهَآ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ ثَقُلَتْ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ لَا تَأْتِيكُمْ إِلَّا بَغْتَةً ۗ يَسْـَٔلُونَكَ كَأَنَّكَ حَفِىٌّ عَنْهَا ۖ قُلْ إِنَّمَا عِلْمُهَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ yas-alūnaka `anis sā`ati ayyāna mursāhā ۖ qul innamā `il-muhā `inda rabbī ۖ lā yujallīhā liwaqtihā illā huw ۚ thaqulat fis samāwāti wal-arḍ ۚ lā ta-tīkum illā baghtah ۗ yas-alūnaka ka-annaka ḥafiyyun `anhā ۖ qul innamā `il-muhā `indallāhi walākinna aktharan nāsi lā ya`lamūn They question you concerning the Hour, when will it set in? Say, ‘Its knowledge is only with my Lord: none except Him shall manifest it at its time. It will weigh heavy on the heavens and the earth. It will not overtake you but suddenly.’ They ask you as if you were in the know of it. Say, ‘Its knowledge is only with Allah, but most people do not know.’
188
قُل لَّآ أَمْلِكُ لِنَفْسِى نَفْعًا وَلَا ضَرًّا إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَلَوْ كُنتُ أَعْلَمُ ٱلْغَيْبَ لَٱسْتَكْثَرْتُ مِنَ ٱلْخَيْرِ وَمَا مَسَّنِىَ ٱلسُّوٓءُ ۚ إِنْ أَنَا۠ إِلَّا نَذِيرٌ وَبَشِيرٌ لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ qul lā amliku linafsī naf`an walā ḍarran illā mā shā-allāh ۚ walaw kuntu a`lamul ghayba lastakthartu minal khayri wa mā massaniyas sū-u ۚ in ana illā nadhīrun wabashīrul liqawmiy yu-minūn Say, ‘I have no control over any benefit for myself, nor [over] any harm except what Allah may wish. Had I known the Unseen, I would have acquired much good, and no ill would have befallen me. I am only a warner and bearer of good news to a people who have faith.’
189
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُم مِّن نَّفْسٍ وَٰحِدَةٍ وَجَعَلَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا لِيَسْكُنَ إِلَيْهَا ۖ فَلَمَّا تَغَشَّىٰهَا حَمَلَتْ حَمْلًا خَفِيفًا فَمَرَّتْ بِهِۦ ۖ فَلَمَّآ أَثْقَلَت دَّعَوَا ٱللَّهَ رَبَّهُمَا لَئِنْ ءَاتَيْتَنَا صَـٰلِحًا لَّنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ huwal ladhī khalaqakum min nafsin wāḥidatin waja`ala minhā zawjahā liyaskuna ilayhā ۖ falammā taghashhāhā ḥamalat ḥamlan khafīfan famarrat bih ۖ falammā athqalat da`awallāha rabbahumā la-in ātaytanā ṣāliḥal lanakūnanna minash shākirīn It is He who created you from a single soul, and made from it its mate, that he might find comfort with her. So when he had covered her, she bore a light burden and passed [some time] with it. When she had grown heavy, they both invoked Allah, their Lord: ‘If You give us a healthy [child], we will be surely grateful.’
190
فَلَمَّآ ءَاتَىٰهُمَا صَـٰلِحًا جَعَلَا لَهُۥ شُرَكَآءَ فِيمَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمَا ۚ فَتَعَـٰلَى ٱللَّهُ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ falammā ātāhumā ṣāliḥan ja`alā lahu shurakā-a fīmā ātāhumā ۚ fata`ālallāhu `ammā yushrikūn Then when He gave them a healthy [child], they ascribed partners to Him in what He had given them. Exalted is Allah above [having] any partners that they ascribe [to Him]!
191
أَيُشْرِكُونَ مَا لَا يَخْلُقُ شَيْـًٔا وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ ayushrikūna mā lā yakhluqu shay-an wahum yukhlaqūn Do they ascribe [to Him] partners that create nothing and have been created themselves,
192
وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ لَهُمْ نَصْرًا وَلَآ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَنصُرُونَ walā yastaṭī`ūna lahum naṣran walā anfusahum yanṣurūn and can neither help them, nor help themselves?
193
وَإِن تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ لَا يَتَّبِعُوكُمْ ۚ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْكُمْ أَدَعَوْتُمُوهُمْ أَمْ أَنتُمْ صَـٰمِتُونَ wa in tad`ūhum ilal-hudā lā yattabi`ūkum ۚ sawā-un `alaykum ada`awtumūhum am antum ṣāmitūn If you call them to guidance, they will not follow you: it is the same to you whether you call them or whether you are silent.
194
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ عِبَادٌ أَمْثَالُكُمْ ۖ فَٱدْعُوهُمْ فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لَكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ innal ladhīna tad`ūna min dūnillāhi `ibādun amthālukum ۖ fad`ūhum falyastajībū lakum in kuntum ṣādiqīn Indeed those whom you invoke besides Allah are creatures like you. So invoke them: they should answer you, if you are truthful.
195
أَلَهُمْ أَرْجُلٌ يَمْشُونَ بِهَآ ۖ أَمْ لَهُمْ أَيْدٍ يَبْطِشُونَ بِهَآ ۖ أَمْ لَهُمْ أَعْيُنٌ يُبْصِرُونَ بِهَآ ۖ أَمْ لَهُمْ ءَاذَانٌ يَسْمَعُونَ بِهَا ۗ قُلِ ٱدْعُوا۟ شُرَكَآءَكُمْ ثُمَّ كِيدُونِ فَلَا تُنظِرُونِ alahum arjulun yamshūna bihā ۖ am lahum aydiy yabṭishūna bihā ۖ am lahum a`yunun yubṣirūna bihā ۖ am lahum ādhānun yasma`ūna bihā ۗ qulid-`ū shurakā-akum thumma kīdūni falā tunẓirūn Do they have any feet to walk with? Do they have any hands to grasp with? Do they have any eyes to see with? Do they have any ears to hear with? Say, ‘Invoke your partners [that you ascribe to Allah] and try out your stratagems against me without granting me any respite.
196
إِنَّ وَلِـِّۧىَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِى نَزَّلَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ۖ وَهُوَ يَتَوَلَّى ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ inna waliyyiyallāhul ladhī nazzalal-kitāb ۖ wahuwa yatawallaṣ ṣāliḥīn My guardian is indeed Allah who sent down the Book, and He takes care of the righteous.
197
وَٱلَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَكُمْ وَلَآ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَنصُرُونَ wal ladhīna tad`ūna min dūnihi lā yastaṭī`ūna naṣrakum walā anfusahum yanṣurūn Those whom you invoke besides Him can neither help you, nor help themselves.
198
وَإِن تَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ لَا يَسْمَعُوا۟ ۖ وَتَرَىٰهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَيْكَ وَهُمْ لَا يُبْصِرُونَ wa in tad`ūhum ilal-hudā lā yasma`ū ۖ watarāhum yanẓurūna ilayka wahum lā yubṣirūn If you call them to guidance, they will not hear. You see them facing you, but they do not see.’

200
وَإِمَّا يَنزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ نَزْغٌ فَٱسْتَعِذْ بِٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ wa immā yanzaghannaka minash shayṭāni nazghun fasta`idh billāh ۚ innahu samī`un `alīm Should a temptation from Satan disturb you, invoke the protection of Allah; indeed He is all-hearing, all-knowing.
201
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا۟ إِذَا مَسَّهُمْ طَـٰٓئِفٌ مِّنَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ تَذَكَّرُوا۟ فَإِذَا هُم مُّبْصِرُونَ innal ladhīnat-taqaw idhā massahum ṭā-ifun minash shayṭāni tadhakkarū fa-idhā hum mubṣirūn When those who are Godwary are touched by a visitation of Satan, they remember [Allah] and, behold, they perceive.
202
وَإِخْوَٰنُهُمْ يَمُدُّونَهُمْ فِى ٱلْغَىِّ ثُمَّ لَا يُقْصِرُونَ wa ikhwānuhum yamuddūnahum fil ghayyi thumma lā yuqṣirūn But their brethren, they draw them into error, and then they do not spare [any harm].
203
وَإِذَا لَمْ تَأْتِهِم بِـَٔايَةٍ قَالُوا۟ لَوْلَا ٱجْتَبَيْتَهَا ۚ قُلْ إِنَّمَآ أَتَّبِعُ مَا يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَىَّ مِن رَّبِّى ۚ هَـٰذَا بَصَآئِرُ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ wa idhā lam ta-tihim bi-āyatin qālū lawlaj-tabaytahā ۚ qul innamā attabi`u mā yūḥā ilayya min rabbī ۚ hādhā baṣā-iru min rabbikum wahudan waraḥmatun liqawmiy yu-minūn When you do not bring them a sign, they say, ‘Why do you not improvise one?’ Say, ‘I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord; these are insights from your Lord, and a guidance and mercy for a people who have faith.’
204
وَإِذَا قُرِئَ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ فَٱسْتَمِعُوا۟ لَهُۥ وَأَنصِتُوا۟ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ wa idhā quri-al qur-ānu fastami`ū lahu wa-anṣitū la`allakum turḥamūn When the Quran is recited, listen to it and be silent, maybe you will receive [Allah’s] mercy.
205

206
Indeed those who are [stationed] near your Lord do not disdain to worship Him. They glorify Him and prostrate to Him.
