بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
تَبَـٰرَكَ ٱلَّذِى بِيَدِهِ ٱلْمُلْكُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ tabārakal ladhī biyadihil mulku wahuwa `alā kulli shay-in qadīr Blessed is He in whose hands is all sovereignty, and He has power over all things.
2
ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَٱلْحَيَوٰةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْغَفُورُ alladhī khalaqal mawta wal ḥayāta liyabluwakum ayyukum aḥsanu `amalā ۚ wahuwal `azīzul ghafūr He, who created death and life that He may test you [to see] which of you is best in conduct. And He is the All-mighty, the All-forgiving.
3
ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَٰتٍ طِبَاقًا ۖ مَّا تَرَىٰ فِى خَلْقِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ مِن تَفَـٰوُتٍ ۖ فَٱرْجِعِ ٱلْبَصَرَ هَلْ تَرَىٰ مِن فُطُورٍ alladhī khalaqa sab`a samāwātin ṭibāqā ۖ mā tarā fī khalqir raḥmāni min tafāwut ۖ farji`il baṣara hal tarā min fuṭūr He created seven heavens in layers. You do not see any discordance in the creation of the All-beneficent. Look again! Do you see any flaw?
4
ثُمَّ ٱرْجِعِ ٱلْبَصَرَ كَرَّتَيْنِ يَنقَلِبْ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْبَصَرُ خَاسِئًا وَهُوَ حَسِيرٌ thummar-ji`il baṣara karratayni yanqalib ilaykal baṣaru khāsi-an wahuwa ḥasīr Look again, once more. Your look will return to you humbled and weary.
5
وَلَقَدْ زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِمَصَـٰبِيحَ وَجَعَلْنَـٰهَا رُجُومًا لِّلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ۖ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلسَّعِيرِ walaqad zayyannas samā-ad dunyā bimaṣābīḥa waja`alnāhā rujūmal lishhayāṭīn ۖ wa-a`tadnā lahum `adhābas sa`īr We have certainly adorned the lowest heaven with lamps, and made them [the means of pelting] missiles against the devils, and We have prepared for them a punishment of the Blaze.
6
وَلِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ walilladhīna kafarū birabbihim `adhābu jahannam ۖ wabi-sal maṣīr For those who defy their Lord is the punishment of hell, and it is an evil destination.
7
إِذَآ أُلْقُوا۟ فِيهَا سَمِعُوا۟ لَهَا شَهِيقًا وَهِىَ تَفُورُ idhā ulqū fīhā sami`ū lahā shahīqan wahiya tafūr When they are thrown in it, they hear it blaring, as it seethes,
8
تَكَادُ تَمَيَّزُ مِنَ ٱلْغَيْظِ ۖ كُلَّمَآ أُلْقِىَ فِيهَا فَوْجٌ سَأَلَهُمْ خَزَنَتُهَآ أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ نَذِيرٌ takādu tamayyazu minal ghayẓ ۖ kullamā ulqiya fīhā fawjun sa-alahum khazanatuhā alam ya-tikum nadhīr almost exploding with rage. Whenever a group is thrown in it, its keepers will ask them, ‘Did not any warner come to you?’
9
قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ قَدْ جَآءَنَا نَذِيرٌ فَكَذَّبْنَا وَقُلْنَا مَا نَزَّلَ ٱللَّهُ مِن شَىْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ كَبِيرٍ qālū balā qad jā-anā nadhīrun fakadhhabnā waqulnā mā nazzalallāhu min shay-in in antum illā fī ḍalālin kabīr They will say, ‘Yes, a warner did come to us, but we impugned [him] and said, ‘Allah did not send down anything; you are only in great error.’
10
وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْ كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ أَوْ نَعْقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِىٓ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ waqālū law kunnā nasma`u aw na`qilu mā kunnā fī aṣ-ḥābis sa`īr And they will say, ‘Had we listened or applied reason, we would not have been among inmates of the Blaze.’
11
فَٱعْتَرَفُوا۟ بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسُحْقًا لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ fa`tarafū bidhanbihim fasuḥqal li-aṣ-ḥābis sa`īr Thus they will admit their sin. So away with the inmates of the Blaze!
12
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلْغَيْبِ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ innal ladhīna yakhshawna rabbahum bil ghaybi lahum maghfiratun wa-ajrun kabīr Indeed for those who fear their Lord in secret there will be forgiveness and a great reward.
13
وَأَسِرُّوا۟ قَوْلَكُمْ أَوِ ٱجْهَرُوا۟ بِهِۦٓ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ wa-asirrū qawlakum awij-harū bih ۖ innahu `alīmun bidhātiṣ ṣudūr Speak secretly, or do so openly, indeed He knows well what is in the breasts.
14
أَلَا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ خَلَقَ وَهُوَ ٱللَّطِيفُ ٱلْخَبِيرُ alā ya`lamu man khalaqa wahuwallaṭīful khabīr Would He who has created not know? And He is the All-attentive, the All-aware.
15
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ ذَلُولًا فَٱمْشُوا۟ فِى مَنَاكِبِهَا وَكُلُوا۟ مِن رِّزْقِهِۦ ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ ٱلنُّشُورُ huwal ladhī ja`ala lakumul-arḍa dhalūlan famshū fī manākibihā wakulū min rizqih ۖ wa ilayhin nushūr It is He who made the earth tractable for you; so walk on its flanks and eat of His provision, and towards Him is the resurrection.
16
ءَأَمِنتُم مَّن فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ أَن يَخْسِفَ بِكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ فَإِذَا هِىَ تَمُورُ a-amintum man fis samā-i an yakhsifa bikumul-arḍa fa-idhā hiya tamūr Are you secure that He who is in the sky will not make the earth swallow you while it quakes?
17
أَمْ أَمِنتُم مَّن فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ أَن يُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَاصِبًا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ كَيْفَ نَذِيرِ am amintum man fis samā-i an yursila `alaykum ḥāṣibā ۖ fasata`lamūna kayfa nadhīr Are you secure that He who is in the sky will not unleash upon you a rain of stones? Soon you will know how My warning has been!
18
وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ walaqad kadhhabal ladhīna min qablihim fakayfa kāna nakīr Certainly those who were before them had impugned [My apostles]; but then how was My rebuttal!
19
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّيْرِ فَوْقَهُمْ صَـٰٓفَّـٰتٍ وَيَقْبِضْنَ ۚ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍۭ بَصِيرٌ awalam yaraw ilaṭ ṭayri fawqahum ṣāffātin wayaqbiḍn ۚ mā yumsikuhunna illar raḥmān ۚ innahu bikulli shay-in baṣīr Have they not regarded the birds above them spreading and closing their wings? No one sustains them except the All-beneficent. Indeed, He watches all things.
20
أَمَّنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى هُوَ جُندٌ لَّكُمْ يَنصُرُكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۚ إِنِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ إِلَّا فِى غُرُورٍ amman hādhal ladhī huwa jundul lakum yanṣurukum min dūnir raḥmān ۚ inil kāfirūna illā fī ghurūr Who is it that is your host who may help you, besides the All-beneficent? The faithless only dwell in delusion.
21
أَمَّنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى يَرْزُقُكُمْ إِنْ أَمْسَكَ رِزْقَهُۥ ۚ بَل لَّجُّوا۟ فِى عُتُوٍّ وَنُفُورٍ amman hādhal ladhī yarzuqukum in amsaka rizqah ۚ bal lajjū fī `utuwwin wanufūr Who is it that may provide for you if He withholds His provision? Indeed, they persist in defiance and aversion.
22
أَفَمَن يَمْشِى مُكِبًّا عَلَىٰ وَجْهِهِۦٓ أَهْدَىٰٓ أَمَّن يَمْشِى سَوِيًّا عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ afaman yamshī mukibban `alā wajhihi ahdā amman yamshī sawiyyan `alā ṣirāṭin mustaqīm Is he who walks prone on his face better guided, or he who walks upright on a straight path?
23
قُلْ هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَكُمْ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۖ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ qul huwal ladhī ansha-akum waja`ala lakumus sam`a wal-abṣāra wal-af-idah ۖ qalīlan mā tashkurūn Say, ‘It is He who created you, and made for you hearing, eyesight, and hearts. Little do you thank.’
24
قُلْ هُوَ ٱلَّذِى ذَرَأَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ qul huwal ladhī dhara-akum fil-arḍi wa ilayhi tuḥsharūn Say, ‘It is He who created you on the earth, and toward Him you will be mustered.’
25
وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ wayaqūlūna matā hādhal wa`du in kuntum ṣādiqīn They say, ‘When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?’
26
قُلْ إِنَّمَا ٱلْعِلْمُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَإِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ qul innamal `il-mu `indallāhi wa innamā ana nadhīrun mubīn Say, ‘Its knowledge is only with Allah; I am only a manifest warner.’
27
فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ زُلْفَةً سِيٓـَٔتْ وُجُوهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَقِيلَ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَدَّعُونَ falammā ra-awhu zulfatan sī-at wujūhul ladhīna kafarū waqīla hādhal ladhī kuntum bihi tadda`ūn When they see it brought near, the countenances of the faithless will be contorted, and [they will be] told, ‘This is what you were asking for!’
28
قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَهْلَكَنِىَ ٱللَّهُ وَمَن مَّعِىَ أَوْ رَحِمَنَا فَمَن يُجِيرُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ qul ara aytum in ahlakaniyallāhu wa man ma`iya aw raḥimanā faman yujīrul kāfirīna min `adhābin alīm Say, ‘Tell me, whether Allah destroys me and those who are with me, or He has mercy on us, who will shelter the faithless from a painful punishment?’
29
قُلْ هُوَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ وَعَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ هُوَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ qul huwar raḥmānu āmannā bihi wa`alayhi tawakkalnā ۖ fasata`lamūna man huwa fī ḍalālin mubīn Say, ‘He is the All-beneficent; we have faith in Him, and in Him do we trust. Soon you will know who is in manifest error.’
30
قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَصْبَحَ مَآؤُكُمْ غَوْرًا فَمَن يَأْتِيكُم بِمَآءٍ مَّعِينٍۭ qul ara aytum in aṣbaḥa mā-ukum ghawran faman ya-tīkum bimā-in ma`īn Say, ‘Tell me, should your water sink down [into the ground], who will bring you running water?’
