بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَجَعَلَ ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ وَٱلنُّورَ ۖ ثُمَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمْ يَعْدِلُونَ al-ḥamdu lillāhil ladhī khalaqas samāwāti wal-arḍa waja`alaẓ ẓulumāti wan nūr ۖ thummal ladhīna kafarū birabbihim ya`dilūn All praise belongs to Allah who created the heavens and the earth and made the darkness and the light. Yet the faithless equate [others] with their Lord.
2
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُم مِّن طِينٍ ثُمَّ قَضَىٰٓ أَجَلًا ۖ وَأَجَلٌ مُّسَمًّى عِندَهُۥ ۖ ثُمَّ أَنتُمْ تَمْتَرُونَ huwal ladhī khalaqakum min ṭīnin thumma qaḍā ajalā ۖ wa-ajalun musamman `indah ۖ thumma antum tamtarūn It is He who created you from clay, then ordained the term [of your life]—the specified term is with Him—and yet you are in doubt.
3
وَهُوَ ٱللَّهُ فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَفِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ يَعْلَمُ سِرَّكُمْ وَجَهْرَكُمْ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا تَكْسِبُونَ wahuwallāhu fis samāwāti wafil-arḍ ۖ ya`lamu sirrakum wajahrakum waya`lamu mā taksibūn He is Allah in the heavens and on the earth: He knows your secret and your overt [matters], and He knows what you earn.
4
وَمَا تَأْتِيهِم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍ مِّنْ ءَايَـٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ wa mā ta-tīhim min āyatim min āyāti rabbihim illā kānū `anhā mu`riḍīn There did not come to them any sign from among the signs of their Lord, but that they used to disregard it.
5
فَقَدْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَأْتِيهِمْ أَنۢبَـٰٓؤُا۟ مَا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ faqad kadhhabū bil ḥaqqi lammā jā-ahum ۖ fasawfa ya-tīhim anbā-u mā kānū bihi yastahzi-ūn They have certainly denied the truth when it came to them, but soon there will come to them the news of what they have been deriding.
6
أَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن قَرْنٍ مَّكَّنَّـٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مَا لَمْ نُمَكِّن لَّكُمْ وَأَرْسَلْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيْهِم مِّدْرَارًا وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرَ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهِمْ فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُم بِذُنُوبِهِمْ وَأَنشَأْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ قَرْنًا ءَاخَرِينَ alam yaraw kam ahlaknā min qablihim min qarnin makkannāhum fil-arḍi mā lam numakkin lakum wa-arsalnas samā-a `alayhim midrāran waja`alnal-anhāra tajrī min taḥtihim fa-ahlaknāhum bidhunūbihim wa-ansha-nā min ba`dihim qarnan ākharīn Have they not regarded how many a generation We have destroyed before them whom We had granted power in the land in respects that We did not grant you, and We sent abundant rains for them from the sky and made streams run for them? Then We destroyed them for their sins, and brought forth another generation after them.
7
وَلَوْ نَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكَ كِتَـٰبًا فِى قِرْطَاسٍ فَلَمَسُوهُ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ لَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ walaw nazzalnā `alayka kitāban fī qirṭāsin falamasūhu bi-aydīhim laqālal ladhīna kafarū in hādhā illā siḥrun mubīn Had We sent down to you a Book on paper so they could touch it with their [own] hands, [still] the faithless would have said, ‘This is nothing but plain magic.’
8
وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ مَلَكٌ ۖ وَلَوْ أَنزَلْنَا مَلَكًا لَّقُضِىَ ٱلْأَمْرُ ثُمَّ لَا يُنظَرُونَ waqālū lawlā unzila `alayhi malak ۖ walaw anzalnā malakal laquḍiyal-amru thumma lā yunẓarūn They say, ‘Why has not an angel been sent down to him?’ Were We to send down an angel, the matter would surely be decided, and then they would not be granted any respite.
9
وَلَوْ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ مَلَكًا لَّجَعَلْنَـٰهُ رَجُلًا وَلَلَبَسْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّا يَلْبِسُونَ walaw ja`alnāhu malakal laja`alnāhu rajulan walalabasnā `alayhim mā yalbisūn Had We made him an angel, We would have surely made him a man, and We would have surely confounded them just as they confound [the truth now].
10
وَلَقَدِ ٱسْتُهْزِئَ بِرُسُلٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَحَاقَ بِٱلَّذِينَ سَخِرُوا۟ مِنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ walaqadis-tuhzi-a birusulin min qablika faḥāqa bil ladhīna sakhirū minhum mā kānū bihi yastahzi-ūn Apostles were certainly derided before you. Then those who ridiculed them were besieged by what they used to deride.
11
قُلْ سِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ ٱنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ qul sīrū fil-arḍi thumman-ẓurū kayfa kāna `āqibatul mukadhhibīn Say, ‘Travel over the land, and then observe how was the fate of the deniers.’
12
قُل لِّمَن مَّا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖ قُل لِّلَّهِ ۚ كَتَبَ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ ٱلرَّحْمَةَ ۚ لَيَجْمَعَنَّكُمْ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ ۚ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ qul liman mā fis samāwāti wal-arḍ ۖ qul lillāh ۚ kataba `alā nafsihir raḥmah ۚ layajma`annakum ilā yawmil qiyāmati lā rayba fīh ۚ alladhīna khasirū anfusahum fahum lā yu-minūn Say, ‘To whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth?’ Say, ‘To Allah. He has made mercy incumbent upon Himself. He will surely gather you on the Day of Resurrection, in which there is no doubt. Those who have ruined their souls will not have faith.’
13
وَلَهُۥ مَا سَكَنَ فِى ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ walahu mā sakana fil layli wan nahār ۚ wahuwas samī`ul `alīm To Him belongs whatever abides in the night and the day, and He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.
14
قُلْ أَغَيْرَ ٱللَّهِ أَتَّخِذُ وَلِيًّا فَاطِرِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَهُوَ يُطْعِمُ وَلَا يُطْعَمُ ۗ قُلْ إِنِّىٓ أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَكُونَ أَوَّلَ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ ۖ وَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ qul aghayrallāhi attakhidhu waliyyan fāṭiris samāwāti wal-arḍi wahuwa yuṭ`imu walā yuṭ`am ۗ qul innī umirtu an akūna awwala man aslam ۖ walā takūnanna minal mushrikīn Say, ‘Shall I take for guardian [anyone] other than Allah, the originator of the heavens and the earth, who feeds and is not fed?’ Say, ‘I have been commanded to be the first of those who submit [to Allah], and [told,] “Never be one of the polytheists.” ’
15
قُلْ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ إِنْ عَصَيْتُ رَبِّى عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ qul innī akhāfu in `aṣaytu rabbī `adhāba yawmin `aẓīm Say, ‘Indeed, should I disobey my Lord, I fear the punishment of a tremendous day.’
16
مَّن يُصْرَفْ عَنْهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَقَدْ رَحِمَهُۥ ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْمُبِينُ man yuṣraf `anhu yawma-idhin faqad raḥimah ۚ wadhālikal fawzul mubīn Whoever is spared of it on that day, He has certainly been merciful to him, and that is manifest success.
17
وَإِن يَمْسَسْكَ ٱللَّهُ بِضُرٍّ فَلَا كَاشِفَ لَهُۥٓ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ وَإِن يَمْسَسْكَ بِخَيْرٍ فَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ wa in yamsaskallāhu biḍurrin falā kāshifa lahu illā huw ۖ wa in yamsaska bikhayrin fahuwa `alā kulli shay-in qadīr Should Allah visit you with some distress there is no one to remove it except Him; and should He bring you some good, then He has power over all things.
18
وَهُوَ ٱلْقَاهِرُ فَوْقَ عِبَادِهِۦ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ٱلْخَبِيرُ wahuwal qāhiru fawqa `ibādih ۚ wahuwal ḥakīmul khabīr And He is the All-dominant over His servants, and He is the All-wise, the All-aware.
19
قُلْ أَىُّ شَىْءٍ أَكْبَرُ شَهَـٰدَةً ۖ قُلِ ٱللَّهُ ۖ شَهِيدٌۢ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَكُمْ ۚ وَأُوحِىَ إِلَىَّ هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لِأُنذِرَكُم بِهِۦ وَمَنۢ بَلَغَ ۚ أَئِنَّكُمْ لَتَشْهَدُونَ أَنَّ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ ءَالِهَةً أُخْرَىٰ ۚ قُل لَّآ أَشْهَدُ ۚ قُلْ إِنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَـٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌ وَإِنَّنِى بَرِىٓءٌ مِّمَّا تُشْرِكُونَ qul ayyu shay-in akbaru shahādah ۖ qulillāh ۖ shahīdun baynī wabaynakum ۚ wa-ūḥiya ilayya hādhal qur-ānu li-undhirakum bihi wa man balagh ۚ a-innakum latash-hadūna anna ma`allāhi ālihatan ukhrā ۚ qul lā ash-had ۚ qul innamā huwa ilāhun wāḥidun wa innanī barī-un mimmā tushrikūn Say, ‘What thing is greatest as witness?’ Say, ‘Allah! [He is] witness between me and you, and this Quran has been revealed to me that I may warn thereby you and whomever it may reach.’ ‘Do you indeed bear witness that there are other gods besides Allah?’ Say, ‘I do not bear witness [to any such thing].’ Say, ‘Indeed He is the One God, and I indeed disown what you associate [with Him].’
20
ٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ يَعْرِفُونَهُۥ كَمَا يَعْرِفُونَ أَبْنَآءَهُمُ ۘ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ alladhīna ātaynāhumul kitāba ya`rifūnahu kamā ya`rifūna abnā-ahum ۘ alladhīna khasirū anfusahum fahum lā yu-minūn Those whom We have given the Book recognize him just as they recognize their sons. Those who have ruined their souls will not have faith.
21
وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا أَوْ كَذَّبَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِهِۦٓ ۗ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ wa man aẓlamu mimmanif-tarā `alallāhi kadhiban aw kadhhaba bi-āyātih ۗ innahu lā yufliḥuẓ ẓālimūn Who is a greater wrongdoer than him who fabricates a lie against Allah, or denies His signs? Indeed the wrongdoers will not be felicitous.
22
وَيَوْمَ نَحْشُرُهُمْ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ نَقُولُ لِلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوٓا۟ أَيْنَ شُرَكَآؤُكُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ كُنتُمْ تَزْعُمُونَ wayawma naḥshuruhum jamī`an thumma naqūlu lilladhīna ashrakū ayna shurakā-ukumul ladhīna kuntum taz`umūn On the day when We gather them all together, We shall say to those who ascribed partners [to Allah] ‘Where are your partners that you used to claim?’
23
ثُمَّ لَمْ تَكُن فِتْنَتُهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن قَالُوا۟ وَٱللَّهِ رَبِّنَا مَا كُنَّا مُشْرِكِينَ thumma lam takun fitnatuhum illā an qālū wallāhi rabbinā mā kunnā mushrikīn Then their only excuse will be to say, ‘By Allah, our Lord, we were not polytheists.’
24
ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَذَبُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ ۚ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ un-ẓur kayfa kadhabū `alā anfusihim ۚ waḍalla `anhum mā kānū yaftarūn Look, how they forswear themselves, and what they used to fabricate has forsaken them!
25
وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَسْتَمِعُ إِلَيْكَ ۖ وَجَعَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ أَكِنَّةً أَن يَفْقَهُوهُ وَفِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْرًا ۚ وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ كُلَّ ءَايَةٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِهَا ۚ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءُوكَ يُجَـٰدِلُونَكَ يَقُولُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ wa minhum man yastami`u ilayk ۖ waja`alnā `alā qulūbihim akinnatan an yafqahūhu wafī ādhānihim waqrā ۚ wa in yaraw kulla āyatin lā yu-minū bihā ۚ ḥattā idhā jā-ūka yujādilūnaka yaqūlul ladhīna kafarū in hādhā illā asāṭīrul-awwalīn There are some of them who prick up their ears at you, but We have cast veils on their hearts lest they should understand it, and a deafness into their ears; and though they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. When they come to you, to dispute with you, the faithless say, ‘These are nothing but myths of the ancients.’
26
وَهُمْ يَنْهَوْنَ عَنْهُ وَيَنْـَٔوْنَ عَنْهُ ۖ وَإِن يُهْلِكُونَ إِلَّآ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ wahum yanhawna `anhu wayan-awna `anh ۖ wa in yuhlikūna illā anfusahum wa mā yash`urūn They dissuade [others] from [following] him, and [themselves] avoid him; yet they destroy no one except themselves, but they are not aware.
27
وَلَوْ تَرَىٰٓ إِذْ وُقِفُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ فَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰلَيْتَنَا نُرَدُّ وَلَا نُكَذِّبَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ رَبِّنَا وَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ walaw tarā idh wuqifū `alan nāri faqālū yālaytanā nuraddu walā nukadhhiba bi-āyāti rabbinā wanakūna minal mu-minīn Were you to see when they are brought to a halt by the Fire, whereupon they will say, ‘If only we were sent back [into the world]! Then we will not deny the signs of our Lord, and we will be among the faithful!’
28
بَلْ بَدَا لَهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يُخْفُونَ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ وَلَوْ رُدُّوا۟ لَعَادُوا۟ لِمَا نُهُوا۟ عَنْهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ bal badā lahum mā kānū yukhfūna min qabl ۖ walaw ruddū la`ādū limā nuhū `anhu wa innahum lakādhibūn Indeed, what they used to hide before has now become evident to them. But were they to be sent back they would revert to what they were forbidden, and they are indeed liars.
29
وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنْيَا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَبْعُوثِينَ waqālū in hiya illā ḥayātunad dunyā wa mā naḥnu bimab`ūthīn They say, ‘There is nothing but our life of this world, and we shall not be resurrected.’
30
وَلَوْ تَرَىٰٓ إِذْ وُقِفُوا۟ عَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ ۚ قَالَ أَلَيْسَ هَـٰذَا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ وَرَبِّنَا ۚ قَالَ فَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ walaw tarā idh wuqifū `alā rabbihim ۚ qāla alaysa hādhā bil ḥaqq ۚ qālū balā warabbinā ۚ qāla fadhūqul `adhāba bimā kuntum takfurūn Were you to see when they are brought to a halt before their Lord. He will say, ‘Is this not a fact?’ They will say, ‘Yes, by our Lord!’ He will say, ‘So taste the punishment because of what you used to deny.’
31
قَدْ خَسِرَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِلِقَآءِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَتْهُمُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ بَغْتَةً قَالُوا۟ يَـٰحَسْرَتَنَا عَلَىٰ مَا فَرَّطْنَا فِيهَا وَهُمْ يَحْمِلُونَ أَوْزَارَهُمْ عَلَىٰ ظُهُورِهِمْ ۚ أَلَا سَآءَ مَا يَزِرُونَ qad khasiral ladhīna kadhhabū biliqā-illāh ۖ ḥattā idhā jā-at humus sā`atu baghtatan qālū yāḥasratanā `alā mā farraṭnā fīhā wahum yaḥmilūna awzārahum `alā ẓuhūrihim ۚ alā sā-a mā yazirūn They are certainly losers who deny the encounter with Allah. When the Hour overtakes them suddenly, they will say, ‘Alas for us, for what we neglected in it!’ And they will bear their burdens on their backs. Look! Evil is what they bear!
32
وَمَا ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَآ إِلَّا لَعِبٌ وَلَهْوٌ ۖ وَلَلدَّارُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لِّلَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ wa mal ḥayātud dunyā illā la`ibun walahw ۖ walalddārul-ākhiratu khayrul lilladhīna yattaqūn ۗ afalā ta`qilūn The life of the world is nothing but play and diversion, and the abode of the Hereafter is surely better for those who are Godwary. Do you not exercise your reason?
33
قَدْ نَعْلَمُ إِنَّهُۥ لَيَحْزُنُكَ ٱلَّذِى يَقُولُونَ ۖ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَا يُكَذِّبُونَكَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ يَجْحَدُونَ qad na`lamu innahu layaḥzunukal ladhī yaqūlūn ۖ fa-innahum lā yukadhhibūnaka walākinnaẓ ẓālimīna bi-āyātillāhi yajḥadūn We certainly know that what they say grieves you. Yet it is not you that they deny, but it is Allah’s signs that the wrongdoers impugn.
34
وَلَقَدْ كُذِّبَتْ رُسُلٌ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَصَبَرُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَا كُذِّبُوا۟ وَأُوذُوا۟ حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰهُمْ نَصْرُنَا ۚ وَلَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَلَقَدْ جَآءَكَ مِن نَّبَإِى۟ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ walaqad kudhhibat rusulun min qablika faṣabarū `alā mā kudhhibū wa-ūdhū ḥattā atāhum naṣrunā ۚ walā mubaddila likalimātillāh ۚ walaqad jā-aka min naba-il mursalīn Apostles were certainly denied before you, yet they patiently bore being denied and tormented until Our help came to them. Nothing can change the words of Allah, and there have certainly come to you some of the accounts of the apostles.
35
وَإِن كَانَ كَبُرَ عَلَيْكَ إِعْرَاضُهُمْ فَإِنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتَ أَن تَبْتَغِىَ نَفَقًا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ أَوْ سُلَّمًا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَتَأْتِيَهُم بِـَٔايَةٍ ۚ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَمَعَهُمْ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰ ۚ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْجَـٰهِلِينَ wa in kāna kabura `alayka i`rāḍuhum fa-inis-taṭa`ta an tabtaghiya nafaqan fil-arḍi aw sullaman fis samā-i fata-tiyahum bi-āyah ۚ walaw shā-allāhu lajama`ahum `alal-hudā ۚ falā takūnanna minal jāhilīn And should their aversion be hard on you, find, if you can, a tunnel into the ground, or a ladder into sky, that you may bring them a sign. Had Allah wished, He would have brought them together on guidance. So do not be one of the ignorant.
36
إِنَّمَا يَسْتَجِيبُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَسْمَعُونَ ۘ وَٱلْمَوْتَىٰ يَبْعَثُهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ يُرْجَعُونَ innamā yastajībul ladhīna yasma`ūn ۘ wal mawtā yab`athuhumullāhu thumma ilayhi yurja`ūn Only those who listen will respond [to you]. As for the dead, Allah will resurrect them, then they will be brought back to Him.
37
وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ ۚ قُلْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ قَادِرٌ عَلَىٰٓ أَن يُنَزِّلَ ءَايَةً وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ waqālū lawlā nuzzila `alayhi āyatun min rabbih ۚ qul innallāha qādirun `alā an yunazzila āyatan walākinna aktharahum lā ya`lamūn They say, ‘Why has not a sign been sent down to him from his Lord?’ Say, ‘Allah is indeed able to send down a sign,’ but most of them do not know.
38
وَمَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا طَـٰٓئِرٍ يَطِيرُ بِجَنَاحَيْهِ إِلَّآ أُمَمٌ أَمْثَالُكُم ۚ مَّا فَرَّطْنَا فِى ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ مِن شَىْءٍ ۚ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يُحْشَرُونَ wa mā min dābbatin fil-arḍi walā ṭā-iriy yaṭīru bijanāḥayhi illā umamun amthālukum ۚ mā farraṭnā fil kitābi min shay-ī ۚ thumma ilā rabbihim yuḥsharūn There is no animal on land, nor a bird that flies with its wings, but they are communities like yourselves. We have not omitted anything from the Book. Then they will be mustered toward their Lord.
39
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا صُمٌّ وَبُكْمٌ فِى ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ ۗ مَن يَشَإِ ٱللَّهُ يُضْلِلْهُ وَمَن يَشَأْ يَجْعَلْهُ عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ wal ladhīna kadhhabū bi-āyātinā ṣummun wabukmun fiẓ ẓulumāt ۗ man yasha-illāhu yuḍlilhu wa man yasha-yaj`alhu `alā ṣirāṭin mustaqīm Those who deny Our signs are deaf and dumb, in a manifold darkness. Allah leads astray whomever He wishes, and whomever He wishes He puts him on a straight path.

قُلْ أَرَءَيْتَكُمْ إِنْ أَتَىٰكُمْ عَذَابُ ٱللَّهِ أَوْ أَتَتْكُمُ ٱلسَّاعَةُ أَغَيْرَ ٱللَّهِ تَدْعُونَ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ qul ara aytakum in atākum `adhābullāhi aw atatkumus sā`atu aghayrallāhi tad`ūna in kuntum ṣādiqīn Say, ‘Tell me, should Allah’s punishment overtake you, or should the Hour overtake you, will you supplicate anyone other than Allah, should you be truthful?
41
بَلْ إِيَّاهُ تَدْعُونَ فَيَكْشِفُ مَا تَدْعُونَ إِلَيْهِ إِن شَآءَ وَتَنسَوْنَ مَا تُشْرِكُونَ bal iyyāhu tad`ūna fayakshifu mā tad`ūna ilayhi in shā-a watansawna mā tushrikūn No, Him you will supplicate, and He will remove that for which you supplicated Him, if He wishes, and you will forget what you ascribe [to Him] as [His] partners.’
42
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمَمٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُم بِٱلْبَأْسَآءِ وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَضَرَّعُونَ walaqad arsalnā ilā umamin min qablika fa-akhadhnāhum bil ba-sā-i waḍ ḍarrā-i la`allahum yataḍarra`ūn We have certainly sent [apostles] to nations before you, then We seized them with stress and distress so that they might entreat [Us].
43
فَلَوْلَآ إِذْ جَآءَهُم بَأْسُنَا تَضَرَّعُوا۟ وَلَـٰكِن قَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ falawlā idh jā-ahum ba-sunā taḍarra`ū walākin qasat qulūbuhum wazayyana lahumush shayṭānu mā kānū ya`malūn Why did they not entreat when Our punishment overtook them! But their hearts had hardened, and Satan had made what they had been doing seem decorous to them.
44
فَلَمَّا نَسُوا۟ مَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ بِهِۦ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ أَبْوَٰبَ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فَرِحُوا۟ بِمَآ أُوتُوٓا۟ أَخَذْنَـٰهُم بَغْتَةً فَإِذَا هُم مُّبْلِسُونَ falammā nasū mā dhukkirū bihi fataḥnā `alayhim abwāba kulli shay-in ḥattā idhā fariḥū bimā ūtū akhadhnāhum baghtatan fa-idhā hum mublisūn So when they forgot what they had been admonished of, We opened for them the gates of all [good] things. When they became proud of what they were given, We seized them suddenly, whereat, behold, they were despondent.
45
فَقُطِعَ دَابِرُ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ۚ وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ faquṭi`a dābirul qawmil ladhīna ẓalamū ۚ wal ḥamdu lillāhi rabbil `ālamīn Thus the wrongdoing lot were rooted out, and all praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
46
قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَخَذَ ٱللَّهُ سَمْعَكُمْ وَأَبْصَـٰرَكُمْ وَخَتَمَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِكُم مَّنْ إِلَـٰهٌ غَيْرُ ٱللَّهِ يَأْتِيكُم بِهِ ۗ ٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ نُصَرِّفُ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ ثُمَّ هُمْ يَصْدِفُونَ qul ara aytum in akhadhallāhu sam`akum wa-abṣārakum wakhatama `alā qulūbikum man ilāhun ghayrullāhi ya-tīkum bih ۗ un-ẓur kayfa nuṣarriful-āyāti thumma hum yaṣdifūn Say, ‘Tell me, should Allah take away your hearing and your sight and set a seal on your hearts, which god other than Allah can bring it [back] to you?’ Look, how We paraphrase the signs variously; nevertheless they turn away.
47
قُلْ أَرَءَيْتَكُمْ إِنْ أَتَىٰكُمْ عَذَابُ ٱللَّهِ بَغْتَةً أَوْ جَهْرَةً هَلْ يُهْلَكُ إِلَّا ٱلْقَوْمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ qul ara aytakum in atākum `adhābullāhi baghtatan aw jahratan hal yuhlaku illal-qawmuẓ ẓālimūn Say, ‘Tell me, should Allah’s punishment overtake you suddenly or visibly, will anyone be destroyed except the wrongdoing lot?’
48
وَمَا نُرْسِلُ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرِينَ وَمُنذِرِينَ ۖ فَمَنْ ءَامَنَ وَأَصْلَحَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ wa mā nursilul mursalīna illā mubashhirīna wa mundhirīn ۖ faman āmana wa-aṣlaḥa falā khawfun `alayhim walā hum yaḥzanūn We do not send the apostles except as bearers of good news and warners. As for those who are faithful and righteous, they will have no fear, nor will they grieve.
49
وَٱلَّذِينَ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا يَمَسُّهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْسُقُونَ wal ladhīna kadhhabū bi-āyātinā yamassuhumul `adhābu bimā kānū yafsuqūn But as for those who deny Our signs, the punishment shall befall them because of the transgressions they used to commit.
50
قُل لَّآ أَقُولُ لَكُمْ عِندِى خَزَآئِنُ ٱللَّهِ وَلَآ أَعْلَمُ ٱلْغَيْبَ وَلَآ أَقُولُ لَكُمْ إِنِّى مَلَكٌ ۖ إِنْ أَتَّبِعُ إِلَّا مَا يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَىَّ ۚ قُلْ هَلْ يَسْتَوِى ٱلْأَعْمَىٰ وَٱلْبَصِيرُ ۚ أَفَلَا تَتَفَكَّرُونَ qul lā aqūlu lakum `indī khazā-inullāhi walā a`lamul ghayba walā aqūlu lakum innī malak ۖ in attabi`u illā mā yūḥā ilayy ۚ qul hal yastawil-a`mā wal baṣīr ۚ afalā tatafakkarūn Say, ‘I do not say to you that I possess the treasuries of Allah, nor do I know the Unseen, nor do I say to you that I am an angel. I follow only what is revealed to me.’ Say, ‘Are the blind one and the seer equal? So do you not reflect?’
51
وَأَنذِرْ بِهِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ أَن يُحْشَرُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ ۙ لَيْسَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِهِۦ وَلِىٌّ وَلَا شَفِيعٌ لَّعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ wa-andhir bihil ladhīna yakhāfūna an yuḥsharū ilā rabbihim laysa lahum min dūnihi waliyyun walā shafī`ul la`allahum yattaqūn And warn by its means those who fear being mustered toward their Lord, besides whom they shall have neither any guardian nor any intercessor, so that they may be Godwary.
52
وَلَا تَطْرُدِ ٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلْغَدَوٰةِ وَٱلْعَشِىِّ يُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَهُۥ ۖ مَا عَلَيْكَ مِنْ حِسَابِهِم مِّن شَىْءٍ وَمَا مِنْ حِسَابِكَ عَلَيْهِم مِّن شَىْءٍ فَتَطْرُدَهُمْ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ walā taṭrudil ladhīna yad`ūna rabbahum bil ghadāti wal `ashiyyi yurīdūna wajhah ۖ mā `alayka min ḥisābihim min shay-in wa mā min ḥisābika `alayhim min shay-in fataṭrudahum fatakūna minaẓ ẓālimīn Do not drive away those who supplicate their Lord morning and evening desiring His face. Neither are you accountable for them in any way, nor are they accountable for you in any way, so that you may drive them away and thus become one of the wrongdoers.
53
وَكَذَٰلِكَ فَتَنَّا بَعْضَهُم بِبَعْضٍ لِّيَقُولُوٓا۟ أَهَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَنَّ ٱللَّهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنۢ بَيْنِنَآ ۗ أَلَيْسَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَعْلَمَ بِٱلشَّـٰكِرِينَ wakadhālika fatannā ba`ḍahum biba`ḍin liyaqūlū ahā-ulā-i mannallāhu `alayhim min bayninā ۗ alaysallāhu bi-a`lama bish shākirīn Thus do We test them by means of one another so that they should say, ‘Are these the ones whom Allah has favoured from among us?!’ Does not Allah know best the grateful?!
54
وَإِذَا جَآءَكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا فَقُلْ سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ كَتَبَ رَبُّكُمْ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ ٱلرَّحْمَةَ ۖ أَنَّهُۥ مَنْ عَمِلَ مِنكُمْ سُوٓءًۢا بِجَهَـٰلَةٍ ثُمَّ تَابَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهِۦ وَأَصْلَحَ فَأَنَّهُۥ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ wa idhā jā-akal ladhīna yu-minūna bi-āyātinā faqul salāmun `alaykum ۖ kataba rabbukum `alā nafsihir raḥmah ۖ annahu man `amila minkum sū-an bijahālatin thumma tāba min ba`dihi wa-aṣlaḥa fa-annahu ghafūrun raḥīm When those who have faith in Our signs come to you, say, ‘Peace to you! Your Lord has made mercy incumbent upon Himself: whoever of you commits an evil [deed] out of ignorance and then repents after that and reforms, then He is indeed all-forgiving, all-merciful.’
55
وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ وَلِتَسْتَبِينَ سَبِيلُ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ wakadhālika nufaṣṣilul-āyāti walitastabīna sabīlul mujrimīn Thus do We elaborate the signs, so that the way of the guilty may be exposed.
56
قُلْ إِنِّى نُهِيتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ ٱلَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ قُل لَّآ أَتَّبِعُ أَهْوَآءَكُمْ ۙ قَدْ ضَلَلْتُ إِذًا وَمَآ أَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ qul innī nuhītu an a`budal ladhīna tad`ūna min dūnillāh ۚ qul lā attabi`u ahwā-akum qad ḍalaltu idhan wa mā ana minal muhtadīn Say, ‘I have been forbidden to worship those whom you invoke besides Allah.’ Say, ‘I do not follow your desires, for then I will have gone astray, and I will not be among the [rightly] guided.’
57
قُلْ إِنِّى عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّى وَكَذَّبْتُم بِهِۦ ۚ مَا عِندِى مَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِهِۦٓ ۚ إِنِ ٱلْحُكْمُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِ ۖ يَقُصُّ ٱلْحَقَّ ۖ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ ٱلْفَـٰصِلِينَ qul innī `alā bayyinatim min rabbī wakadhhabtum bih ۚ mā `indī mā tasta`jilūna bih ۚ inil ḥukmu illā lillāh ۖ yaquṣṣul ḥaqq ۖ wahuwa khayrul fāṣilīn Say, ‘Indeed I stand on a manifest proof from my Lord and you have denied it. What you seek to hasten is not up to me. Judgement belongs only to Allah; He expounds the truth and He is the best of judges.’
58
قُل لَّوْ أَنَّ عِندِى مَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِهِۦ لَقُضِىَ ٱلْأَمْرُ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَكُمْ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ qul law anna `indī mā tasta`jilūna bihi laquḍiyal-amru baynī wabaynakum ۗ wallāhu a`lamu biẓ ẓālimīn Say, ‘If what you seek to hasten were with me, the matter would surely have been decided between you and me, and Allah knows best the wrongdoers.’
59

He knows whatever there is in land and sea. No leaf falls without His knowing it, nor is there a grain in the darkness of the earth, nor anything fresh or withered but it is in a manifest Book.
60
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى يَتَوَفَّىٰكُم بِٱلَّيْلِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا جَرَحْتُم بِٱلنَّهَارِ ثُمَّ يَبْعَثُكُمْ فِيهِ لِيُقْضَىٰٓ أَجَلٌ مُّسَمًّى ۖ ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ مَرْجِعُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُنَبِّئُكُم بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ wahuwal ladhī yatawaffākum bil layli waya`lamu mā jaraḥtum bin nahāri thumma yab`athukum fīhi liyuqḍā ajalun musammā ۖ thumma ilayhi marji`ukum thumma yunabbi-ukum bimā kuntum ta`malūn It is He who takes your souls by night, and He knows what you do by day, then He reanimates you therein so that a specified term may be completed. Then to Him will be your return, whereat He will inform you concerning what you used to do.
61
وَهُوَ ٱلْقَاهِرُ فَوْقَ عِبَادِهِۦ ۖ وَيُرْسِلُ عَلَيْكُمْ حَفَظَةً حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَ أَحَدَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ تَوَفَّتْهُ رُسُلُنَا وَهُمْ لَا يُفَرِّطُونَ wahuwal qāhiru fawqa `ibādih ۖ wayursilu `alaykum ḥafaẓatan ḥattā idhā jā-a aḥadakumul mawtu tawaffat-hu rusulunā wahum lā yufarriṭūn He is the All-dominant over His servants, and He sends guards to [protect] you. When death approaches anyone of you, Our messengers take him away and they do not neglect [their duty].
62

Look! All judgement belongs to Him, and He is the swiftest of reckoners.

They are the ones who perish because of what they have earned; they shall have boiling water for drink and a painful punishment because of what they used to defy.

وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُرِىٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ مَلَكُوتَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَلِيَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُوقِنِينَ wakadhālika nurī ibrāhīma malakūtas samāwāti wal-arḍi waliyakūna minal mūqinīn Thus did We show Abraham the dominions of the heavens and the earth, that he might be of those who possess certitude.

78
فَلَمَّا رَءَا ٱلشَّمْسَ بَازِغَةً قَالَ هَـٰذَا رَبِّى هَـٰذَآ أَكْبَرُ ۖ فَلَمَّآ أَفَلَتْ قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ إِنِّى بَرِىٓءٌ مِّمَّا تُشْرِكُونَ falammā ra ash shamsa bāzighatan qāla hādhā rabbī hādhā akbar ۖ falammā afalat qāla yāqawmi innī barī-un mimmā tushrikūn Then, when he saw the sun rising, he said, ‘This is my Lord! He said, ‘Do you argue with me concerning Allah, while He has guided me for certain? I do not fear what you ascribe to Him as [His] partners, excepting anything that my Lord may wish. 81

So [tell me,] which of the two sides has a greater right to safety, if you know?

We raise in rank whomever We wish. Indeed your Lord is all-wise, all-knowing.

But were they to ascribe any partners [to Allah], what they used to do would not avail them.

Today you shall be requited with a humiliating punishment because of what you used to attribute to Allah untruly, and for your being disdainful towards His signs.’

Look at its fruit as it fructifies and ripens. Indeed, there are signs in that for a people who have faith.

وَلَا تَسُبُّوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَيَسُبُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ عَدْوًۢا بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ ۗ كَذَٰلِكَ زَيَّنَّا لِكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ عَمَلَهُمْ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِم مَّرْجِعُهُمْ فَيُنَبِّئُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ walā tasubbul ladhīna yad`ūna min dūnillāhi fayasubbullāha `adwan bighayri `il-m ۗ kadhālika zayyannā likulli ummatin `amalahum thumma ilā rabbihim marji`uhum fayunabbi-uhum bimā kānū ya`malūn Do not abuse those whom they invoke besides Allah, lest they should abuse Allah out of hostility, without any knowledge. That is how to every people We have made their conduct seem decorous. Then their return will be to their Lord and He will inform them concerning what they used to do.
109
وَأَقْسَمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ جَهْدَ أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ لَئِن جَآءَتْهُمْ ءَايَةٌ لَّيُؤْمِنُنَّ بِهَا ۚ قُلْ إِنَّمَا ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَمَا يُشْعِرُكُمْ أَنَّهَآ إِذَا جَآءَتْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ wa-aqsamū billāhi jahda aymānihim la-in jā-at hum āyatun layu-minunna bihā ۚ qul innamal-āyātu `indallāh ۖ wa mā yush`irukum annahā idhā jā-at lā yu-minūn They swear by Allah with solemn oaths that were a sign to come to them they would surely believe in it. Say, ‘These signs are only from Allah,’ and what will bring home to you that they will not believe even if they came?
110
وَنُقَلِّبُ أَفْـِٔدَتَهُمْ وَأَبْصَـٰرَهُمْ كَمَا لَمْ يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِهِۦٓ أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ وَنَذَرُهُمْ فِى طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ wanuqallibu af-idatahum wa-abṣārahum kamā lam yu-minū bihi awwala marratin wanadharuhum fī ṭughyānihim ya`mahūn We transform their hearts and their visions as they did not believe in it the first time, and We leave them bewildered in their rebellion.
111
وَلَوْ أَنَّنَا نَزَّلْنَآ إِلَيْهِمُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ وَكَلَّمَهُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَحَشَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ كُلَّ شَىْءٍ قُبُلًا مَّا كَانُوا۟ لِيُؤْمِنُوٓا۟ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ يَجْهَلُونَ walaw annanā nazzalnā ilayhimul malā-ikata wakallamahumul mawtā waḥasharnā `alayhim kulla shay-in qubulan mā kānū liyu-minū illā an yashā-allāhu walākinna aktharahum yajhalūn Even if We had sent down angels to them, and the dead had spoken to them, and We had gathered before them all things manifestly, they would [still] not believe unless Allah wished. But most of them are ignorant.
112
وَكَذَٰلِكَ جَعَلْنَا لِكُلِّ نَبِىٍّ عَدُوًّا شَيَـٰطِينَ ٱلْإِنسِ وَٱلْجِنِّ يُوحِى بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَىٰ بَعْضٍ زُخْرُفَ ٱلْقَوْلِ غُرُورًا ۚ وَلَوْ شَآءَ رَبُّكَ مَا فَعَلُوهُ ۖ فَذَرْهُمْ وَمَا يَفْتَرُونَ wakadhālika ja`alnā likulli nabiyyin `aduwwan shayāṭīnal-insi wal jinni yūḥī ba`ḍuhum ilā ba`ḍin zukhrufal qawli ghurūrā ۚ walaw shā-a rabbuka mā fa`alūh ۖ fadharhum wa mā yaftarūn That is how for every prophet We appointed as enemy the devils from among humans and jinn, who inspire each other with flashy words, deceptively. Had your Lord wished, they would not have done it. So leave them with what they fabricate,
113
وَلِتَصْغَىٰٓ إِلَيْهِ أَفْـِٔدَةُ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَلِيَرْضَوْهُ وَلِيَقْتَرِفُوا۟ مَا هُم مُّقْتَرِفُونَ walitaṣghā ilayhi af-idatul ladhīna lā yu-minūna bil-ākhirati waliyarḍawhu waliyaqtarifū mā hum muqtarifūn so that toward it may incline the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter, and so that they may be pleased with it and commit what they commit.
114
أَفَغَيْرَ ٱللَّهِ أَبْتَغِى حَكَمًا وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنزَلَ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ مُفَصَّلًا ۚ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ يَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّهُۥ مُنَزَّلٌ مِّن رَّبِّكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ فَلَا تَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمُمْتَرِينَ afaghayrallāhi abtaghī ḥakaman wahuwal ladhī anzala ilaykumul kitāba mufaṣṣalā ۚ wal ladhīna ātaynāhumul kitāba ya`lamūna annahu munazzalun min rabbika bil ḥaqq ۖ falā takūnanna minal mumtarīn [Say,] ‘Shall I seek a judge other than Allah, while it is He who has sent down to you the Book, well-elaborated?’ Those whom We have given the Book know that it has been sent down from your Lord with the truth; so do not be one of the skeptics.
115
وَتَمَّتْ كَلِمَتُ رَبِّكَ صِدْقًا وَعَدْلًا ۚ لَّا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ watammat kalimatu rabbika ṣidqan wa`adlā ۚ lā mubaddila likalimātih ۚ wahuwas samī`ul `alīm The word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and justice. Nothing can change His words, and He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.
116
وَإِن تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِن يَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا ٱلظَّنَّ وَإِنْ هُمْ إِلَّا يَخْرُصُونَ wa in tuṭi` akthara man fil-arḍi yuḍillūka `an sabīlillāh ۚ in yattabi`ūna illaẓ ẓanna wa in hum illā yakhruṣūn If you obey most of those on the earth, they will lead you astray from the way of Allah. They follow nothing but conjectures and they do nothing but surmise.
117
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ مَن يَضِلُّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ ۖ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ inna rabbaka huwa a`lamu man yaḍillu `an sabīlih ۖ wahuwa a`lamu bil muhtadīn Indeed your Lord knows best those who stray from His way; and He knows best those who are guided.
118
فَكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا ذُكِرَ ٱسْمُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ إِن كُنتُم بِـَٔايَـٰتِهِۦ مُؤْمِنِينَ fakulū mimmā dhukiras-mullāhi `alayhi in kuntum bi-āyātihi mu-minīn Eat from that over which Allah’s Name has been mentioned, if you are believers in His signs.
119
وَمَا لَكُمْ أَلَّا تَأْكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا ذُكِرَ ٱسْمُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَقَدْ فَصَّلَ لَكُم مَّا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِلَّا مَا ٱضْطُرِرْتُمْ إِلَيْهِ ۗ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا لَّيُضِلُّونَ بِأَهْوَآئِهِم بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ ۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُعْتَدِينَ wa mā lakum allā ta-kulū mimmā dhukiras-mullāhi `alayhi waqad faṣṣala lakum mā ḥarrama `alaykum illā maḍ-ṭurirtum ilayh ۗ wa inna kathīral layuḍillūna bi-ahwā-ihim bighayri `il-m ۗ inna rabbaka huwa a`lamu bil mu`tadīn Why should you not eat that over which Allah’s Name has been mentioned, while He has already elaborated for you whatever He has forbidden you, excepting what you may be compelled to [eat in an emergency]? Indeed many mislead [others] by their fancies, without any knowledge. Indeed your Lord knows best the transgressors.
120
وَذَرُوا۟ ظَـٰهِرَ ٱلْإِثْمِ وَبَاطِنَهُۥٓ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَكْسِبُونَ ٱلْإِثْمَ سَيُجْزَوْنَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَقْتَرِفُونَ wadharū ẓāhiral-ithmi wabāṭinah ۚ innal ladhīna yaksibūnal-ithma sayujzawna bimā kānū yaqtarifūn Renounce outward sins and the inward ones. Indeed those who commit sins shall be requited for what they used to commit.
121
وَلَا تَأْكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ ٱسْمُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ وَإِنَّهُۥ لَفِسْقٌ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينَ لَيُوحُونَ إِلَىٰٓ أَوْلِيَآئِهِمْ لِيُجَـٰدِلُوكُمْ ۖ وَإِنْ أَطَعْتُمُوهُمْ إِنَّكُمْ لَمُشْرِكُونَ walā ta-kulū mimmā lam yudhkaris-mullāhi `alayhi wa innahu lafisq ۗ wa innash shayāṭīna layūḥūna ilā awliyā-ihim liyujādilūkum ۖ wa in aṭa`tumūhum innakum lamushrikūn Do not eat [anything] of that over which Allah’s Name has not been mentioned, and that is indeed transgression. Indeed the satans inspire their friends to dispute with you; and if you obey them, you will indeed be polytheists.
122
أَوَمَن كَانَ مَيْتًا فَأَحْيَيْنَـٰهُ وَجَعَلْنَا لَهُۥ نُورًا يَمْشِى بِهِۦ فِى ٱلنَّاسِ كَمَن مَّثَلُهُۥ فِى ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِ لَيْسَ بِخَارِجٍ مِّنْهَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ awa man kāna maytan fa-aḥyaynāhu waja`alnā lahu nūran yamshī bihi fin nāsi kaman mathaluhu fiẓ ẓulumāti laysa bikhārijin minhā ۚ kadhālika zuyyina lilkāfirīna mā kānū ya`malūn Is he who was lifeless, then We gave him life and provided him with a light by which he walks among the people, like one who dwells in a manifold darkness which he cannot leave? To the faithless is thus presented as decorous what they have been doing.
123
وَكَذَٰلِكَ جَعَلْنَا فِى كُلِّ قَرْيَةٍ أَكَـٰبِرَ مُجْرِمِيهَا لِيَمْكُرُوا۟ فِيهَا ۖ وَمَا يَمْكُرُونَ إِلَّا بِأَنفُسِهِمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ wakadhālika ja`alnā fī kulli qaryatin akābira mujrimīhā liyamkurū fīhā ۖ wa mā yamkurūna illā bi-anfusihim wa mā yash`urūn Thus have We installed in every town its major criminals that they may plot therein. Yet they do not plot except against their own souls, but they are not aware.
124
وَإِذَا جَآءَتْهُمْ ءَايَةٌ قَالُوا۟ لَن نُّؤْمِنَ حَتَّىٰ نُؤْتَىٰ مِثْلَ مَآ أُوتِىَ رُسُلُ ٱللَّهِ ۘ ٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ حَيْثُ يَجْعَلُ رِسَالَتَهُۥ ۗ سَيُصِيبُ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ صَغَارٌ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَعَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَمْكُرُونَ wa idhā jā-at hum āyatun qālū lan nu-mina ḥattā nu-tā mithla mā ūtiya rusulullāh ۘ allāhu a`lamu ḥaythu yaj`alu risālatah ۗ sayuṣībul ladhīna ajramū ṣaghārun `indallāhi wa`adhābun shadīdun bimā kānū yamkurūn When a sign comes to them, they say, ‘We will not believe until we are given the like of what was given to Allah’s apostles.’ Allah knows best where to place His apostleship! Soon the guilty will be visited by a degradation and severe punishment from Allah because of the plots they used to devise.
125
فَمَن يُرِدِ ٱللَّهُ أَن يَهْدِيَهُۥ يَشْرَحْ صَدْرَهُۥ لِلْإِسْلَـٰمِ ۖ وَمَن يُرِدْ أَن يُضِلَّهُۥ يَجْعَلْ صَدْرَهُۥ ضَيِّقًا حَرَجًا كَأَنَّمَا يَصَّعَّدُ فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَجْعَلُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلرِّجْسَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ faman yuridillāhu an yahdiyahu yashraḥ ṣadrahu lilislām ۖ wa man yurid an yuḍillahu yaj`al ṣadrahu ḍayyiqan ḥarajan ka-annamā yaṣṣa``adu fis samā-i ۚ kadhālika yaj`alullāhur rijsa `alal ladhīna lā yu-minūn Whomever Allah desires to guide, He opens his breast to Islam, and whomever He desires to lead astray, He makes his breast narrow and straitened as if he were climbing to a height. Thus does Allah lay [spiritual] defilement on those who do not have faith.
126
وَهَـٰذَا صِرَٰطُ رَبِّكَ مُسْتَقِيمًا ۗ قَدْ فَصَّلْنَا ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ لِقَوْمٍ يَذَّكَّرُونَ wahādhā ṣirāṭu rabbika mustaqīmā ۗ qad faṣṣalnal-āyāti liqawmiy yadhhakkarūn This is the straight path of your Lord. We have already elaborated the signs for a people who take admonition.
127
لَهُمْ دَارُ ٱلسَّلَـٰمِ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ ۖ وَهُوَ وَلِيُّهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ lahum dārus salāmi `inda rabbihim ۖ wahuwa waliyyuhum bimā kānū ya`malūn For them shall be the abode of peace near their Lord and He will be their guardian because of what they used to do.
128
وَيَوْمَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ جَمِيعًا يَـٰمَعْشَرَ ٱلْجِنِّ قَدِ ٱسْتَكْثَرْتُم مِّنَ ٱلْإِنسِ ۖ وَقَالَ أَوْلِيَآؤُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْإِنسِ رَبَّنَا ٱسْتَمْتَعَ بَعْضُنَا بِبَعْضٍ وَبَلَغْنَآ أَجَلَنَا ٱلَّذِىٓ أَجَّلْتَ لَنَا ۚ قَالَ ٱلنَّارُ مَثْوَىٰكُمْ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ wayawma yaḥshuruhum jamī`an yāma`sharal jinni qadis-takthartum minal-ins ۖ waqāla awliyā-uhum minal-insi rabbanas-tamta`a ba`ḍunā biba`ḍin wabalaghnā ajalanal ladhī ajjalta lanā ۚ qālan nāru mathwākum khālidīna fīhā illā mā shā-allāh ۗ inna rabbaka ḥakīmun `alīm On the day He will gather them all together, [He will say], ‘O company of jinn! You claimed many of the humans.’ Their friends from among the humans will say, ‘Our Lord, we used each other, and we completed our term which You had appointed for us.’ He will say, ‘The Fire is your abode, to remain in it [forever], except what Allah may wish.’ Indeed your Lord is all-wise, all-knowing.
129
وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُوَلِّى بَعْضَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ بَعْضًۢا بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ wakadhālika nuwallī ba`ḍaẓ ẓālimīna ba`ḍan bimā kānū yaksibūn That is how We make the wrongdoers one another’s friends because of what they used to earn.
130
يَـٰمَعْشَرَ ٱلْجِنِّ وَٱلْإِنسِ أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ رُسُلٌ مِّنكُمْ يَقُصُّونَ عَلَيْكُمْ ءَايَـٰتِى وَيُنذِرُونَكُمْ لِقَآءَ يَوْمِكُمْ هَـٰذَا ۚ قَالُوا۟ شَهِدْنَا عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِنَا ۖ وَغَرَّتْهُمُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةُ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَشَهِدُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ كَـٰفِرِينَ yāma`sharal jinni wal-insi alam ya-tikum rusulun minkum yaquṣṣūna `alaykum āyātī wayundhirūnakum liqā-a yawmikum hādhā ۚ qālū shahidnā `alā anfusinā ۖ wagharrat-humul ḥayātud dunyā washahidū `alā anfusihim annahum kānū kāfirīn ‘O company of jinn and humans! Did there not come to you apostles from yourselves, recounting to you My signs and warning you of the encounter of this Day?’ They will say, ‘We testify against ourselves.’ The life of this world had deceived them, and they will testify against themselves that they had been faithless.
131
ذَٰلِكَ أَن لَّمْ يَكُن رَّبُّكَ مُهْلِكَ ٱلْقُرَىٰ بِظُلْمٍ وَأَهْلُهَا غَـٰفِلُونَ dhālika an lam yakun rabbuka muhlikal qurā biẓul-min wa-ahluhā ghāfilūn This is because your Lord would never destroy the towns unjustly while their people were unaware.
132
وَلِكُلٍّ دَرَجَـٰتٌ مِّمَّا عَمِلُوا۟ ۚ وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِغَـٰفِلٍ عَمَّا يَعْمَلُونَ walikullin darajātun mimmā `amilū ۚ wa mā rabbuka bighāfilin `ammā ya`malūn For everyone there are ranks in accordance with what they have done; and your Lord is not oblivious of what they do.
133
وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْغَنِىُّ ذُو ٱلرَّحْمَةِ ۚ إِن يَشَأْ يُذْهِبْكُمْ وَيَسْتَخْلِفْ مِنۢ بَعْدِكُم مَّا يَشَآءُ كَمَآ أَنشَأَكُم مِّن ذُرِّيَّةِ قَوْمٍ ءَاخَرِينَ warabbukal ghaniyyu dhur raḥmah ۚ in yasha-yudh-hibkum wayastakhlif min ba`dikum mā yashā-u kamā ansha-akum min dhurriyyati qawmin ākharīn Your Lord is the All-sufficient dispenser of mercy. If He wishes, He will take you away, and make whomever He wishes succeed you, just as He produced you from the descendants of another people.
134
إِنَّ مَا تُوعَدُونَ لَـَٔاتٍ ۖ وَمَآ أَنتُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ inna mā tū`adūna la-āt ۖ wa mā antum bimu`jizīn Indeed what you are promised will surely come, and you will not be able to thwart it.
135
قُلْ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱعْمَلُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِكُمْ إِنِّى عَامِلٌ ۖ فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ مَن تَكُونُ لَهُۥ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلدَّارِ ۗ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُفْلِحُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ qul yāqawmi'-malū `alā makānatikum innī `āmil ۖ fasawfa ta`lamūna man takūnu lahu `āqibatud dār ۗ innahu lā yufliḥuẓ ẓālimūn Say, ‘O my people, act according to your ability; I too am acting. Soon you will know in whose favour the outcome of that abode will be. Indeed the wrongdoers will not be felicitous.’
136
وَجَعَلُوا۟ لِلَّهِ مِمَّا ذَرَأَ مِنَ ٱلْحَرْثِ وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ نَصِيبًا فَقَالُوا۟ هَـٰذَا لِلَّهِ بِزَعْمِهِمْ وَهَـٰذَا لِشُرَكَآئِنَا ۖ فَمَا كَانَ لِشُرَكَآئِهِمْ فَلَا يَصِلُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَمَا كَانَ لِلَّهِ فَهُوَ يَصِلُ إِلَىٰ شُرَكَآئِهِمْ ۗ سَآءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ waja`alū lillāhi mimmā dhara-a minal ḥarthi wal-an`āmi naṣīban faqālū hādhā lillāhi biza`mihim wahādhā lishurakā-inā ۖ famā kāna lishurakā-ihim falā yaṣilu ilallāh ۖ wa mā kāna lillāhi fahuwa yaṣilu ilā shurakā-ihim ۗ sā-a mā yaḥkumūn They dedicate a portion to Allah out of what He has created of the crops and cattle, and say, ‘This is for Allah,’ so do they maintain, ‘and this is for our partners.’ But what is for their partners does not reach Allah, and what is for Allah reaches their partners. Evil is the judgement that they make.
137
وَكَذَٰلِكَ زَيَّنَ لِكَثِيرٍ مِّنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ قَتْلَ أَوْلَـٰدِهِمْ شُرَكَآؤُهُمْ لِيُرْدُوهُمْ وَلِيَلْبِسُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ دِينَهُمْ ۖ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مَا فَعَلُوهُ ۖ فَذَرْهُمْ وَمَا يَفْتَرُونَ wakadhālika zayyana likathīrin minal mushrikīna qatla awlādihim shurakā-uhum liyurdūhum waliyalbisū `alayhim dīnahum ۖ walaw shā-allāhu mā fa`alūh ۖ fadharhum wa mā yaftarūn That is how to most of the polytheists the slaying of their children is presented as decorous by those whom they ascribe as partners [to Allah], that they may ruin them and confound their religion for them. Had Allah wished, they would not have done it. So leave them with what they fabricate.
138
وَقَالُوا۟ هَـٰذِهِۦٓ أَنْعَـٰمٌ وَحَرْثٌ حِجْرٌ لَّا يَطْعَمُهَآ إِلَّا مَن نَّشَآءُ بِزَعْمِهِمْ وَأَنْعَـٰمٌ حُرِّمَتْ ظُهُورُهَا وَأَنْعَـٰمٌ لَّا يَذْكُرُونَ ٱسْمَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا ٱفْتِرَآءً عَلَيْهِ ۚ سَيَجْزِيهِم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ waqālū hādhihi an`āmun waḥarthun ḥijrul lā yaṭ`amuhā illā man nashā-u biza`mihim wa-an`āmun ḥurrimat ẓuhūruhā wa-an`āmul lā yadhkurūnas-mallāhi `alayhaf-tirā-an `alayh ۚ sayajzīhim bimā kānū yaftarūn And they say, ‘These cattle and tillage are a taboo: none may eat them except whom we please,’ so they maintain, and there are cattle whose backs are forbidden and cattle over which they do not mention Allah’s Name, fabricating a lie against Him. Soon He will requite them for what they used to fabricate.
139
وَقَالُوا۟ مَا فِى بُطُونِ هَـٰذِهِ ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ خَالِصَةٌ لِّذُكُورِنَا وَمُحَرَّمٌ عَلَىٰٓ أَزْوَٰجِنَا ۖ وَإِن يَكُن مَّيْتَةً فَهُمْ فِيهِ شُرَكَآءُ ۚ سَيَجْزِيهِمْ وَصْفَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ waqālū mā fī buṭūni hādhihil-an`āmi khāliṣatun lidhukūrinā wa muḥarramun `alā azwājinā ۖ wa in yakun maytatan fahum fīhi shurakā-u ۚ sayajzīhim waṣfahum ۚ innahu ḥakīmun `alīm And they say, ‘That which is in the bellies of these cattle is exclusively for our males and forbidden to our wives. But if it be still-born, they will all share it.’ Soon He will requite them for their allegations. Indeed, He is all-wise, all-knowing.
140
قَدْ خَسِرَ ٱلَّذِينَ قَتَلُوٓا۟ أَوْلَـٰدَهُمْ سَفَهًۢا بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَحَرَّمُوا۟ مَا رَزَقَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ٱفْتِرَآءً عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ قَدْ ضَلُّوا۟ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُهْتَدِينَ qad khasiral ladhīna qatalū awlādahum safahan bighayri `il-min waḥarramū mā razaqahumullāhuf-tirā-an `alallāh ۚ qad ḍallū wa mā kānū muhtadīn They are certainly losers who slay their children foolishly without knowledge, and forbid what Allah has provided them, fabricating a lie against Allah. Certainly, they have gone astray and are not guided.
