بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
طسٓمٓ ṭā sīn mīm Ta, Seen, Meem.
2
تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ tilka āyātul kitābil mubīn These are the signs of the Manifest Book.
3
لَعَلَّكَ بَـٰخِعٌ نَّفْسَكَ أَلَّا يَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ la`allaka bākhi`un nafsaka allā yakūnū mu-minīn You are liable to imperil your life [out of distress] that they will not have faith.
4
إِن نَّشَأْ نُنَزِّلْ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ ءَايَةً فَظَلَّتْ أَعْنَـٰقُهُمْ لَهَا خَـٰضِعِينَ in nasha-nunazzil `alayhim minas samā-i āyatan faẓallat a`nāquhum lahā khāḍi`īn If We wish We will send down to them a sign from the sky before which their heads will remain bowed in humility.
5
وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن ذِكْرٍ مِّنَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ مُحْدَثٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضِينَ wa mā ya-tīhim min dhikrin minar raḥmāni muḥdathin illā kānū `anhu mu`riḍīn There does not come to them any new reminder from the All-beneficent but that they disregard it.
6
فَقَدْ كَذَّبُوا۟ فَسَيَأْتِيهِمْ أَنۢبَـٰٓؤُا۟ مَا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ faqad kadhhabū fasaya-tīhim anbā-u mā kānū bihi yastahzi-ūn They have already denied [the truth], but soon there will come to them the news of what they have been deriding.
7
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَمْ أَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍ كَرِيمٍ awalam yaraw ilal-arḍi kam anbatnā fīhā min kulli zawjin karīm Have they not regarded the earth, how many of every splendid kind [of vegetation] We have caused to grow in it?
8
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ inna fī dhālika la-āyah ۖ wa mā kāna aktharuhum mu-minīn There is indeed a sign in that; but most of them do not have faith.
9
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ wa inna rabbaka lahuwal `azīzur raḥīm Indeed your Lord is the All-mighty, the All-merciful.
10
وَإِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبُّكَ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنِ ٱئْتِ ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ wa idh nādā rabbuka mūsā ani-til qawmaẓ ẓālimīn When your Lord called out to Moses: [saying,] ‘Go to those wrongdoing people,
11
قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ أَلَا يَتَّقُونَ qawma fir`awn ۚ alā yattaqūn the people of Pharaoh. Will they not be wary [of Allah]?’
12
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ أَن يُكَذِّبُونِ qāla rabbi innī akhāfu an yukadhhibūn He said, ‘My Lord! I fear they will impugn me,
13
وَيَضِيقُ صَدْرِى وَلَا يَنطَلِقُ لِسَانِى فَأَرْسِلْ إِلَىٰ هَـٰرُونَ wayaḍīqu ṣadrī walā yanṭaliqu lisānī fa-arsil ilā hārūn and I will become upset and my tongue will fail me. So send for Aaron [to join me].
14
وَلَهُمْ عَلَىَّ ذَنۢبٌ فَأَخَافُ أَن يَقْتُلُونِ walahum `alayya dhanbun fa-akhāfu an yaqtulūn Besides, they have a charge against me, and I fear they will kill me.’
15
قَالَ كَلَّا ۖ فَٱذْهَبَا بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ ۖ إِنَّا مَعَكُم مُّسْتَمِعُونَ qāla kallā ۖ fadh-habā bi-āyātinā ۖ innā ma`akum mustami`ūn He said, ‘Certainly not! Let both of you go with Our signs: We will indeed be with you, hearing [everything].
16
فَأْتِيَا فِرْعَوْنَ فَقُولَآ إِنَّا رَسُولُ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ fa-tiyā fir`awna faqūlā innā rasūlu rabbil `ālamīn So approach Pharaoh and say, ‘‘We are indeed envoys of the Lord of the worlds
17
أَنْ أَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ an arsil ma`anā banī isrā-iyl that you let the Children of Israel leave with us.’’ ’
18
قَالَ أَلَمْ نُرَبِّكَ فِينَا وَلِيدًا وَلَبِثْتَ فِينَا مِنْ عُمُرِكَ سِنِينَ qāla alam nurabbika fīnā walīdan walabithta fīnā min `umurika sinīn He [i.e. Pharaoh] said, ‘Did we not rear you as a child among us, and did you not stay with us for years of your life?
19
وَفَعَلْتَ فَعْلَتَكَ ٱلَّتِى فَعَلْتَ وَأَنتَ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ wafa`alta fa`latakal latī fa`alta wa-anta minal kāfirīn Then you committed that deed of yours, and you are an ingrate.’
20
قَالَ فَعَلْتُهَآ إِذًا وَأَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ qāla fa`altuhā idhan wa-ana minaḍ ḍāllīn He said, ‘I did that when I was astray.
21
فَفَرَرْتُ مِنكُمْ لَمَّا خِفْتُكُمْ فَوَهَبَ لِى رَبِّى حُكْمًا وَجَعَلَنِى مِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ fafarartu minkum lammā khiftukum fawahaba lī rabbī ḥukman waja`alanī minal mursalīn So I fled from you, as I was afraid of you. Then my Lord gave me sound judgement and made me one of the apostles.
22
وَتِلْكَ نِعْمَةٌ تَمُنُّهَا عَلَىَّ أَنْ عَبَّدتَّ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ watilka ni`matun tamunnuhā `alayya an `abbadta banī isrā-iyl That you have enslaved the Children of Israel—is that the favour with which you reproach me?’
23
قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَا رَبُّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ qāla fir`awnu wa mā rabbul `ālamīn He said, ‘And what is ‘‘the Lord of all the worlds?’’ ’
24
قَالَ رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ qāla rabbus samāwāti wal-arḍi wa mā baynahumā ۖ in kuntum mūqinīn He said, ‘The Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them,—should you have conviction.’
25
قَالَ لِمَنْ حَوْلَهُۥٓ أَلَا تَسْتَمِعُونَ qāla liman ḥawlahu alā tastami`ūn He said to those who were around him, ‘Don’t you hear?!’
26
قَالَ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ qāla rabbukum warabbu ābā-ikumul-awwalīn He said, ‘Your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers!’
27
قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَكُمُ ٱلَّذِىٓ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ لَمَجْنُونٌ qāla inna rasūlakumul ladhī ursila ilaykum lamajnūn He said, ‘Indeed your messenger, who has been sent to you, is surely crazy!’
28
قَالَ رَبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ qāla rabbul mashriqi wal maghribi wa mā baynahumā ۖ in kuntum ta`qilūn He said, ‘The Lord of the east and the west and whatever is between them—should you exercise your reason.’
29
قَالَ لَئِنِ ٱتَّخَذْتَ إِلَـٰهًا غَيْرِى لَأَجْعَلَنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمَسْجُونِينَ qāla la-init-takhadhta ilāhan ghayrī la-aj`alannaka minal masjūnīn He said, ‘If you take up any god other than me, I will surely make you a prisoner!’
30
قَالَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكَ بِشَىْءٍ مُّبِينٍ qāla awalaw ji-tuka bishay-in mubīn He said, ‘What if I bring you something [as an] unmistakable [proof]?’
31
قَالَ فَأْتِ بِهِۦٓ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ qāla fa-ti bihi in kunta minaṣ ṣādiqīn He said, ‘Then bring it, should you be truthful.’
32
فَأَلْقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِىَ ثُعْبَانٌ مُّبِينٌ fa-alqā `aṣāhu fa-idhā hiya thu`bānun mubīn Thereat he threw down his staff, and behold, it was a manifest python.
33
وَنَزَعَ يَدَهُۥ فَإِذَا هِىَ بَيْضَآءُ لِلنَّـٰظِرِينَ wanaza`a yadahu fa-idhā hiya bayḍā-u linnāẓirīn Then he drew out his hand, and behold, it was white and bright to the onlookers.
34
قَالَ لِلْمَلَإِ حَوْلَهُۥٓ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَسَـٰحِرٌ عَلِيمٌ qāla lil-mala-i ḥawlahu inna hādhā lasāḥirun `alīm He said to the elite [who stood] around him, ‘This is indeed an expert magician
35
يُرِيدُ أَن يُخْرِجَكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِكُم بِسِحْرِهِۦ فَمَاذَا تَأْمُرُونَ yurīdu an yukhrijakum min arḍikum bisiḥrihi famādhā ta-murūn who seeks to expel you from your land with his magic. So what do you advise?’
36
قَالُوٓا۟ أَرْجِهْ وَأَخَاهُ وَٱبْعَثْ فِى ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ حَـٰشِرِينَ qālū arjih wa-akhāhu wab`ath fil madā-ini ḥāshirīn They said, ‘Put him and his brother off for a while, and send heralds to the cities
37
يَأْتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّارٍ عَلِيمٍ ya-tūka bikulli saḥḥārin `alīm to bring you every expert magician.’
38
فَجُمِعَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ لِمِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ fajumi`as saḥaratu limīqāti yawmin ma`lūm So the magicians were gathered for the tryst of a known day,
39
وَقِيلَ لِلنَّاسِ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّجْتَمِعُونَ waqīla linnāsi hal antum mujtami`ūn and the people were told: ‘Will you all gather?!’
40
لَعَلَّنَا نَتَّبِعُ ٱلسَّحَرَةَ إِن كَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ la`allanā nattabi`us saḥarata in kānū humul ghālibīn ‘Maybe we will follow the magicians, if they are victors!’
41
فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ قَالُوا۟ لِفِرْعَوْنَ أَئِنَّ لَنَا لَأَجْرًا إِن كُنَّا نَحْنُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ falammā jā-as saḥaratu qālū lifir`awna a-inna lanā la-ajran in kunnā naḥnul ghālibīn So when the magicians came, they said to Pharaoh, ‘Shall we have a reward if we were to be the victors?’
42
قَالَ نَعَمْ وَإِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَّمِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ qāla na`am wa innakum idhal laminal muqarrabīn He said, ‘Of course; and you will be among members of my inner circle.’
43
قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَىٰٓ أَلْقُوا۟ مَآ أَنتُم مُّلْقُونَ qāla lahum mūsā alqū mā antum mulqūn Moses said to them, ‘Throw down whatever you have to throw!’
44
فَأَلْقَوْا۟ حِبَالَهُمْ وَعِصِيَّهُمْ وَقَالُوا۟ بِعِزَّةِ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ fa-alqaw ḥibālahum wa`iṣiyyahum waqālū bi`izzati fir`awna innā lanaḥnul ghālibūn So they threw down their sticks and ropes, and said, ‘By the might of Pharaoh, we shall surely be victorious!’
45
فَأَلْقَىٰ مُوسَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِىَ تَلْقَفُ مَا يَأْفِكُونَ fa-alqā mūsā `aṣāhu fa-idhā hiya talqafu mā ya-fikūn Thereat Moses threw down his staff, and behold, it was swallowing what they had faked.
46
فَأُلْقِىَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ سَـٰجِدِينَ fa-ulqiyas saḥaratu sājidīn Thereat the magicians fell down prostrating.
47
قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ qālū āmannā birabbil `ālamīn They said, ‘We believe in the Lord of all the worlds,
48
رَبِّ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ rabbi mūsā wahārūn the Lord of Moses and Aaron.’
49
قَالَ ءَامَنتُمْ لَهُۥ قَبْلَ أَنْ ءَاذَنَ لَكُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكَبِيرُكُمُ ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَكُمُ ٱلسِّحْرَ فَلَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ ۚ لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم مِّنْ خِلَـٰفٍ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ qāla āmantum lahu qabla an ādhana lakum ۖ innahu lakabīrukumul ladhī `allamakumus siḥra falasawfa ta`lamūn ۚ la-uqaṭṭi`anna aydiyakum wa-arjulakum min khilāfin wala-uṣallibannakum ajma`īn He [i.e. Pharaoh] said, ‘Do you profess faith in Him before I should permit you? He is indeed your chief who has taught you magic! Soon you will know! I will cut off your hands and feet from opposite sides, and I will crucify you all.’
50
قَالُوا۟ لَا ضَيْرَ ۖ إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا مُنقَلِبُونَ qālū lā ḍayr ۖ innā ilā rabbinā munqalibūn They said, ‘[There is] no harm [in that]! Indeed, we shall return to our Lord.
51
إِنَّا نَطْمَعُ أَن يَغْفِرَ لَنَا رَبُّنَا خَطَـٰيَـٰنَآ أَن كُنَّآ أَوَّلَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ innā naṭma`u an yaghfira lanā rabbunā khaṭāyānā an kunnā awwalal-mu-minīn Indeed we hope our Lord will forgive us our offences for being the first to believe.’
52
وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِىٓ إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ wa-awḥaynā ilā mūsā an asri bi`ibādī innakum muttaba`ūn Then We revealed to Moses, [saying],‘Set out with My servants at night, for you will be pursued.’
53
فَأَرْسَلَ فِرْعَوْنُ فِى ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ حَـٰشِرِينَ fa-arsala fir`awnu fil madā-ini ḥāshirīn Then Pharaoh sent heralds to the cities,
54
إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَشِرْذِمَةٌ قَلِيلُونَ inna hā-ulā-i lashirdhimatun qalīlūn [proclaiming:] ‘These are indeed a small band.
55
وَإِنَّهُمْ لَنَا لَغَآئِظُونَ wa innahum lanā laghā-iẓūn They have aroused our wrath,
56
وَإِنَّا لَجَمِيعٌ حَـٰذِرُونَ wa innā lajamī`un ḥādhirūn and we are alert and fully prepared.’
57
فَأَخْرَجْنَـٰهُم مِّن جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ fa-akhrajnāhum min jannātin wa`uyūn So We took them out of gardens and springs,
58
وَكُنُوزٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ wakunūzin wa maqāmin karīm and [made them leave behind] treasures and stately homes.
59
كَذَٰلِكَ وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ kadhālika wa-awrathnāhā banī isrā-iyl So it was; and We bequeathed them to the Children of Israel.
60
فَأَتْبَعُوهُم مُّشْرِقِينَ fa-atba`ūhum mushriqīn Then they pursued them at sunrise.
61
فَلَمَّا تَرَٰٓءَا ٱلْجَمْعَانِ قَالَ أَصْحَـٰبُ مُوسَىٰٓ إِنَّا لَمُدْرَكُونَ falammā tarā al jam`āni qāla aṣ-ḥābu mūsā innā lamudrakūn When the two hosts sighted each other, the companions of Moses said, ‘Indeed we have been caught up.’
62
قَالَ كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّ مَعِىَ رَبِّى سَيَهْدِينِ qāla kallā ۖ inna ma`iya rabbī sayahdīn He said, ‘Certainly not! Indeed my Lord is with me. He will guide me.’
63
فَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنِ ٱضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلْبَحْرَ ۖ فَٱنفَلَقَ فَكَانَ كُلُّ فِرْقٍ كَٱلطَّوْدِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ fa-awḥaynā ilā mūsā aniḍ-rib bi`aṣākal baḥr ۖ fanfalaqa fakāna kullu firqin kaṭ ṭawdil `aẓīm Thereupon We revealed to Moses: ‘Strike the sea with your staff!’ Whereupon it parted, and each part was as if it were a great mountain.
64
وَأَزْلَفْنَا ثَمَّ ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ wa-azlafnā thammal-ākharīn There, We brought the others near,
65
وَأَنجَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ wa-anjaynā mūsā wa man ma`ahu ajma`īn and We delivered Moses and all those who were with him.
66
ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ thumma aghraqnal-ākharīn Then We drowned the rest.
67
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ inna fī dhālika la-āyah ۖ wa mā kāna aktharuhum mu-minīn There is indeed a sign in that, but most of them do not have faith.
68
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ wa inna rabbaka lahuwal `azīzur raḥīm Indeed your Lord is the All-mighty, the All-merciful.
69
وَٱتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ watlu `alayhim naba-a ibrāhīm Relate to them the account of Abraham
70
إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ idh qāla li-abīhi waqawmihi mā ta`budūn when he said to his father and his people, ‘What is it that you are worshiping?!’
71
قَالُوا۟ نَعْبُدُ أَصْنَامًا فَنَظَلُّ لَهَا عَـٰكِفِينَ qālū na`budu aṣnāman fanaẓallu lahā `ākifīn They said, ‘We worship idols, and are constant in our devotion to them.’
72
قَالَ هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ إِذْ تَدْعُونَ qāla hal yasma`ūnakum idh tad`ūn He said, ‘Do they hear you when you call them?
73
أَوْ يَنفَعُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَضُرُّونَ aw yanfa`ūnakum aw yaḍurrūn Or do they bring you any benefit, or cause you any harm?’
74
قَالُوا۟ بَلْ وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا كَذَٰلِكَ يَفْعَلُونَ qālū bal wajadnā ābā-anā kadhālika yaf`alūn They said, ‘Indeed, we found our fathers doing likewise.’
75
قَالَ أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ qāla afara aytum mā kuntum ta`budūn He said, ‘Have you regarded what you have been worshipping,
76
أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُمُ ٱلْأَقْدَمُونَ antum wa-ābā-ukumul-aqdamūn you and your ancestors?
77
فَإِنَّهُمْ عَدُوٌّ لِّىٓ إِلَّا رَبَّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ fa-innahum `aduwwul lī illā rabbal `ālamīn They are indeed enemies to me, but the Lord of all the worlds,
78
ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَنِى فَهُوَ يَهْدِينِ alladhī khalaqanī fahuwa yahdīn who created me, it is He who guides me,
79
وَٱلَّذِى هُوَ يُطْعِمُنِى وَيَسْقِينِ wal ladhī huwa yuṭ`imunī wayasqīn and provides me with food and drink,
80
وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ wa idhā mariḍtu fahuwa yashfīn and when I get sick, it is He who cures me;
81
وَٱلَّذِى يُمِيتُنِى ثُمَّ يُحْيِينِ wal ladhī yumītunī thumma yuḥyīn who will make me die, then He will bring me to life,
82
وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَطْمَعُ أَن يَغْفِرَ لِى خَطِيٓـَٔتِى يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ wal ladhī aṭma`u an yaghfira lī khaṭī-atī yawmad dīn and who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the Day of Retribution.’
83
رَبِّ هَبْ لِى حُكْمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِى بِٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ rabbi hab lī ḥukman wa-alḥiqnī biṣ ṣāliḥīn ‘My Lord! Grant me [unerring] judgement, and unite me with the Righteous.
84
وَٱجْعَل لِّى لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ waj`al lī lisāna ṣidqin fil-ākhirīn Confer on me a worthy repute among the posterity,
85
وَٱجْعَلْنِى مِن وَرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ waj`alnī min warathati jannatin na`īm and make me one of the heirs to the paradise of bliss.
86
وَٱغْفِرْ لِأَبِىٓ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ waghfir li-abī innahu kāna minaḍ ḍāllīn Forgive my father, for he is one of those who are astray.
87
وَلَا تُخْزِنِى يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ walā tukhzinī yawma yub`athūn Do not disgrace me on the day that they will be resurrected,
88
يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالٌ وَلَا بَنُونَ yawma lā yanfa`u mālun walā banūn the day when neither wealth nor children will avail,
89
إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى ٱللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ illā man atallāha biqalbin salīm except him who comes to Allah with a sound heart,’
90
وَأُزْلِفَتِ ٱلْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ wa-uzlifatil jannatu lil-muttaqīn and paradise will be brought near for the Godwary,
91
وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِلْغَاوِينَ waburrizatil jaḥīmu lilghāwyn and hell will be brought into view for the perverse,
92
وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ waqīla lahum ayna mā kuntum ta`budūn and they shall be told: ‘Where is that which you used to worship
93
مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ هَلْ يَنصُرُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَنتَصِرُونَ min dūnillāhi hal yanṣurūnakum aw yantaṣirūn besides Allah? Do they help you, or do they help each other?’
94
فَكُبْكِبُوا۟ فِيهَا هُمْ وَٱلْغَاوُۥنَ fakubkibū fīhā hum wal ghāwūn Then they will be cast into it on their faces—they and the perverse,
95
وَجُنُودُ إِبْلِيسَ أَجْمَعُونَ wajunūdu iblīsa ajma`ūn and the hosts of Iblis all together.
96
قَالُوا۟ وَهُمْ فِيهَا يَخْتَصِمُونَ qālū wahum fīhā yakhtaṣimūn They will say, as they wrangle in it [together],
97
تَٱللَّهِ إِن كُنَّا لَفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ tallāhi in kunnā lafī ḍalālin mubīn ‘By Allah, we had indeed been in manifest error
98
إِذْ نُسَوِّيكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ idh nusawwīkum birabbil `ālamīn when we equated you with the Lord of all the worlds!
99
وَمَآ أَضَلَّنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ wa mā aḍallanā illal-mujrimūn No one led us astray except the guilty.
100
فَمَا لَنَا مِن شَـٰفِعِينَ famā lanā min shāfi`īn Now we have no intercessors,
101
وَلَا صَدِيقٍ حَمِيمٍ walā ṣadīqin ḥamīm nor do we have any sympathetic friend.
102
فَلَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةً فَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ falaw anna lanā karratan fanakūna minal mu-minīn Had there been another turn for us, we would be among the faithful.’
103
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ inna fī dhālika la-āyah ۖ wa mā kāna aktharuhum mu-minīn There is indeed a sign in that; but most of them do not have faith.
104
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ wa inna rabbaka lahuwal `azīzur raḥīm Indeed your Lord is the All-mighty, the All-merciful.
105
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ kadhhabat qawmu nūḥinil-mursalīn The people of Noah impugned the apostles
106
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ نُوحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ idh qāla lahum akhūhum nūḥun alā tattaqūn when Noah, their brother, said to them, ‘Will you not be wary [of Allah]?
107
إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ innī lakum rasūlun amīn Indeed I am a trusted apostle [sent] to you.
108
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ fattaqullāha wa-aṭī`ūn So be wary of Allah and obey me.
109
وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ wa mā as-alukum `alayhi min ajr ۖ in ajriya illā `alā rabbil `ālamīn I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward lies only with the Lord of all the worlds.
110
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ fattaqullāha wa-aṭī`ūn So be wary of Allah and obey me.’
111
قَالُوٓا۟ أَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ وَٱتَّبَعَكَ ٱلْأَرْذَلُونَ qālū anu-minu laka wattaba`akal-ardhalūn They said, ‘Shall we believe in you, when it is the riffraff who follow you?’
112
قَالَ وَمَا عِلْمِى بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ qāla wa mā `il-mī bimā kānū ya`malūn He said, ‘What do I know as to what they used to do?
113
إِنْ حِسَابُهُمْ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّى ۖ لَوْ تَشْعُرُونَ in ḥisābuhum illā `alā rabbī ۖ law tash`urūn Their reckoning is only with my Lord, should you be aware.
114
وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِطَارِدِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ wa mā ana biṭāridil mu-minīn I will not drive away the faithful.
115
إِنْ أَنَا۠ إِلَّا نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ in ana illā nadhīrun mubīn I am just a manifest warner.’
116
قَالُوا۟ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَـٰنُوحُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمَرْجُومِينَ qālū la-in lam tantahi yānūḥu latakūnanna minal marjūmīn They said, ‘Noah, if you do not desist, you will certainly be stoned [to death].’
117
قَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِى كَذَّبُونِ qāla rabbi inna qawmī kadhhabūn He said, ‘My Lord! Indeed my people have impugned me.
118
فَٱفْتَحْ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَهُمْ فَتْحًا وَنَجِّنِى وَمَن مَّعِىَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ faftaḥ baynī wabaynahum fat-ḥan wanajjinī wa man ma`iya minal mu-minīn So judge conclusively between me and them, and deliver me and the faithful who are with me.’
119
فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ fa-anjaynāhu wa man ma`ahu fil fulkil mashḥūn Thereupon We delivered him and those who were with him in the laden ark.
120
ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا بَعْدُ ٱلْبَاقِينَ thumma aghraqnā ba`dul bāqīn Then We drowned the rest.
121
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ inna fī dhālika la-āyah ۖ wa mā kāna aktharuhum mu-minīn There is indeed a sign in that; but most of them do not have faith.
122
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ wa inna rabbaka lahuwal `azīzur raḥīm Indeed your Lord is the All-mighty, the All-merciful.
123
كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ kadhhabat `ādunil-mursalīn [The people of] ‘Ad impugned the apostles,
124
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ هُودٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ idh qāla lahum akhūhum hūdun alā tattaqūn when Hud, their brother, said to them, ‘Will you not be wary [of Allah]?
125
إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ innī lakum rasūlun amīn Indeed I am a trusted apostle [sent] to you.
126
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ fattaqullāha wa-aṭī`ūn So be wary of Allah and obey me.
127
وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ wa mā as-alukum `alayhi min ajr ۖ in ajriya illā `alā rabbil `ālamīn I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward lies only with the Lord of all the worlds.
128
أَتَبْنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيعٍ ءَايَةً تَعْبَثُونَ atabnūna bikulli rī`in āyatan ta`bathūn Do you build futile a sign on every prominence?
129
وَتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصَانِعَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَخْلُدُونَ watattakhidhūna maṣāni`a la`allakum takhludūn You set up structures as if you will be immortal,
130
وَإِذَا بَطَشْتُم بَطَشْتُمْ جَبَّارِينَ wa idhā baṭashtum baṭashtum jabbārīn and when you seize [someone for punishment], you seize [him] like tyrants.
131
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ fattaqullāha wa-aṭī`ūn So be wary of Allah and obey me.
132
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَمَدَّكُم بِمَا تَعْلَمُونَ wattaqul ladhī amaddakum bimā ta`lamūn Be wary of Him who has provided you with whatever you know,
133
أَمَدَّكُم بِأَنْعَـٰمٍ وَبَنِينَ amaddakum bi-an`āmin wabanīn and aided you with sons and with cattle,
134
وَجَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ wajannātin wa`uyūn gardens and springs.
135
إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ innī akhāfu `alaykum `adhāba yawmin `aẓīm Indeed I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous day.’
136
قَالُوا۟ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْنَآ أَوَعَظْتَ أَمْ لَمْ تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْوَٰعِظِينَ qālū sawā-un `alaynā awa`aẓta am lam takun minal wā`iẓīn They said, ‘It is the same to us whether you exhort us or not.
137
إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا خُلُقُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ in hādhā illā khuluqul-awwalīn These are nothing but the traditions of the ancients,
138
وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ wa mā naḥnu bimu`adhhabīn and we will not be punished.’
139
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ fakadhhabūhu fa-ahlaknāhum ۗ inna fī dhālika la-āyah ۖ wa mā kāna aktharuhum mu-minīn So they impugned him, whereupon We destroyed them. There is indeed a sign in that; but most of them do not have faith.
140
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ wa inna rabbaka lahuwal `azīzur raḥīm Indeed your Lord is the All-mighty, the All-merciful.
141
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ kadhhabat thamūdul mursalīn [The people of] Thamud impugned the apostles
142
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ صَـٰلِحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ idh qāla lahum akhūhum ṣāliḥun alā tattaqūn when Salih, their brother, said to them, ‘Will you not be wary [of Allah]?
143
إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ innī lakum rasūlun amīn Indeed I am a trusted apostle [sent] to you.
144
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ fattaqullāha wa-aṭī`ūn So be wary of Allah and obey me.
145
وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ wa mā as-alukum `alayhi min ajr ۖ in ajriya illā `alā rabbil `ālamīn I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward lies only with the Lord of all the worlds.
146
أَتُتْرَكُونَ فِى مَا هَـٰهُنَآ ءَامِنِينَ atutrakūna fī mā hāhunā āminīn Will you be left secure in that which is here
147
فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ fī jannātin wa`uyūn —amid gardens and springs,
148
وَزُرُوعٍ وَنَخْلٍ طَلْعُهَا هَضِيمٌ wazurū`in wanakhlin ṭal`uhā haḍīm farms and date palms with dainty spathes
149
وَتَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا فَـٰرِهِينَ watanḥitūna minal jibāli buyūtan fārihīn —while you skillfully hew out houses from the mountains?
150
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ fattaqullāha wa-aṭī`ūn So be wary of Allah and obey me,
151
وَلَا تُطِيعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ walā tuṭī`ū amral musrifīn and do not obey the dictates of the transgressors,
152
ٱلَّذِينَ يُفْسِدُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا يُصْلِحُونَ alladhīna yufsidūna fil-arḍi walā yuṣliḥūn who cause corruption in the land and do not bring about reform.’
153
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَحَّرِينَ qālū innamā anta minal musaḥḥarīn They said, ‘Indeed you are one of the bewitched.
154
مَآ أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا فَأْتِ بِـَٔايَةٍ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ mā anta illā basharun mithlunā fa-ti bi-āyatin in kunta minaṣ ṣādiqīn You are just a human being like us. So bring us a sign, should you be truthful.’
155
قَالَ هَـٰذِهِۦ نَاقَةٌ لَّهَا شِرْبٌ وَلَكُمْ شِرْبُ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ qāla hādhihi nāqatun lahā shirbun walakum shirbu yawmin ma`lūm He said, ‘This is a she-camel; she shall drink and you shall drink on known days.
156
وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوٓءٍ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ walā tamassūhā bisū-in faya-khudhakum `adhābu yawmin `aẓīm Do not cause her any harm, for then you shall be seized by the punishment of a terrible day.’
157
فَعَقَرُوهَا فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ نَـٰدِمِينَ fa`aqarūhā fa-aṣbaḥū nādimīn But they hamstrung her, whereupon they became regretful.
158
فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ fa-akhadhahumul `adhāb ۗ inna fī dhālika la-āyah ۖ wa mā kāna aktharuhum mu-minīn So the punishment seized them. There is indeed a sign in that; but most of them do not have faith.
159
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ wa inna rabbaka lahuwal `azīzur raḥīm Indeed your Lord is the All-mighty, the All-merciful.
160
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ kadhhabat qawmu lūṭinil-mursalīn The people of Lot impugned the apostles
161
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ لُوطٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ idh qāla lahum akhūhum lūṭun alā tattaqūn when Lot, their brother, said to them, ‘Will you not be wary [of Allah]?
162
إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ innī lakum rasūlun amīn Indeed I am a trusted apostle [sent] to you.
163
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ fattaqullāha wa-aṭī`ūn So be wary of Allah and obey me.
164
وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ wa mā as-alukum `alayhi min ajr ۖ in ajriya illā `alā rabbil `ālamīn I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward lies only with the Lord of all the worlds.
165
أَتَأْتُونَ ٱلذُّكْرَانَ مِنَ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ ata-tūnadh dhukrāna minal `ālamīn What! Of all people do you come to males,
166
وَتَذَرُونَ مَا خَلَقَ لَكُمْ رَبُّكُم مِّنْ أَزْوَٰجِكُم ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ عَادُونَ watadharūna mā khalaqa lakum rabbukum min azwājikum ۚ bal antum qawmun `ādūn abandoning your wives your Lord has created for you? Indeed, you are a transgressing lot.’
167
قَالُوا۟ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَـٰلُوطُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمُخْرَجِينَ qālū la-in lam tantahi yālūṭu latakūnanna minal mukhrajīn They said, ‘Lot, if you do not desist, you will surely be banished.’
168
قَالَ إِنِّى لِعَمَلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلْقَالِينَ qāla innī li`amalikum minal qālīn He said, ‘Indeed I detest your conduct.’
169
رَبِّ نَجِّنِى وَأَهْلِى مِمَّا يَعْمَلُونَ rabbi najjinī wa-ahlī mimmā ya`malūn ‘My Lord! Deliver me and my family from what they do.’
170
فَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ fanajjaynāhu wa-ahlahu ajma`īn So We delivered him and all his family,
171
إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِى ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ illā `ajūzan fil ghābirīn except an old woman who remained behind.
172
ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ thumma dammarnal-ākharīn Then We destroyed [all] the rest,
173
وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّطَرًا ۖ فَسَآءَ مَطَرُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ wa-amṭarnā `alayhim maṭarā ۖ fasā-a maṭarul mundharīn and rained down upon them a rain [of stones]. Evil was the rain of those who were warned!
174
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ inna fī dhālika la-āyah ۖ wa mā kāna aktharuhum mu-minīn There is indeed a sign in that; but most of them do not have faith.
175
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ wa inna rabbaka lahuwal `azīzur raḥīm Indeed your Lord is the All-mighty, the All-merciful.
176
كَذَّبَ أَصْحَـٰبُ لْـَٔيْكَةِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ kadhhaba aṣ-ḥābul-aykatil mursalīn The inhabitants of Aykah impugned the apostles,
177
إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ شُعَيْبٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ idh qāla lahum shu`aybun alā tattaqūn when Shu‘ayb said to them, ‘Will you not be wary [of Allah]?
178
إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ innī lakum rasūlun amīn Indeed I am a trusted apostle [sent] to you.
179
فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ fattaqullāha wa-aṭī`ūn So be wary of Allah and obey me.
180
وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ wa mā as-alukum `alayhi min ajr ۖ in ajriya illā `alā rabbil `ālamīn I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward lies only with the Lord of all the worlds.
181
أَوْفُوا۟ ٱلْكَيْلَ وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْمُخْسِرِينَ awful kayla walā takūnū minal mukhsirīn Observe the full measure, and do not be of those who give short measure.
182
وَزِنُوا۟ بِٱلْقِسْطَاسِ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِ wazinū bil qisṭāsil mustaqīm Weigh with an even balance,
183
وَلَا تَبْخَسُوا۟ ٱلنَّاسَ أَشْيَآءَهُمْ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ walā tabkhasun nāsa ashyā-ahum walā ta`thaw fil-arḍi mufsidīn and do not cheat the people of their goods. Do not act wickedly on the earth, causing corruption.
184
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُمْ وَٱلْجِبِلَّةَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ wattaqul ladhī khalaqakum wal jibillatal-awwalīn Be wary of Him who created you and the earlier generations.’
185
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَحَّرِينَ qālū innamā anta minal musaḥḥarīn They said, ‘Indeed you are one of the bewitched.
186
وَمَآ أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا وَإِن نَّظُنُّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ wa mā anta illā basharun mithlunā wa in naẓunnuka laminal kādhibīn You are just a human being like us, and we indeed consider you to be a liar.
187
فَأَسْقِطْ عَلَيْنَا كِسَفًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ fa-asqiṭ `alaynā kisafan minas samā-i in kunta minaṣ ṣādiqīn Make a fragment of the sky falls upon us, should you be truthful.’
188
قَالَ رَبِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ qāla rabbī a`lamu bimā ta`malūn He said, ‘My Lord knows best what you are doing.’
189
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَهُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمِ ٱلظُّلَّةِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ fakadhhabūhu fa-akhadhahum `adhābu yawmiẓ ẓullah ۚ innahu kāna `adhāba yawmin `aẓīm So they impugned him, and then they were overtaken by the punishment of the day of the overshadowing cloud. It was indeed the punishment of a terrible day.
190
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ inna fī dhālika la-āyah ۖ wa mā kāna aktharuhum mu-minīn There is indeed a sign in that; but most of them do not have faith.
191
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ wa inna rabbaka lahuwal `azīzur raḥīm Indeed your Lord is the All-mighty, the All-merciful.
192
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَنزِيلُ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ wa innahu latanzīlu rabbil `ālamīn This is indeed [a Book] sent down by the Lord of all the worlds,
193
نَزَلَ بِهِ ٱلرُّوحُ ٱلْأَمِينُ nazala bihir rūḥul-amīn brought down by the Trustworthy Spirit
194
عَلَىٰ قَلْبِكَ لِتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنذِرِينَ `alā qalbika litakūna minal mundhirīn upon your heart (so that you may be one of the warners),
195
بِلِسَانٍ عَرَبِىٍّ مُّبِينٍ bilisānin `arabiyyin mubīn in a clear Arabic language.
196
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَفِى زُبُرِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ wa innahu lafī zuburil-awwalīn It is indeed [foretold] in the scriptures of the ancients.
197
أَوَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُمْ ءَايَةً أَن يَعْلَمَهُۥ عُلَمَـٰٓؤُا۟ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ awalam yakun lahum āyatan an ya`lamahu `ulamā-u banī isrā-iyl Is it not a sign for them that the learned of the Children of Israel recognize it?
198
وَلَوْ نَزَّلْنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ بَعْضِ ٱلْأَعْجَمِينَ walaw nazzalnāhu `alā ba`ḍil-a`jamīn Had We sent it down upon some non-Arab
199
فَقَرَأَهُۥ عَلَيْهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ مُؤْمِنِينَ faqara-ahu `alayhim mā kānū bihi mu-minīn and had he recited it to them, they would not have believed in it.
200
كَذَٰلِكَ سَلَكْنَـٰهُ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ kadhālika salaknāhu fī qulūbil mujrimīn This is how We let it pass through the hearts of the guilty:
201
لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ يَرَوُا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَلِيمَ lā yu-minūna bihi ḥattā yarawul `adhābal-alīm they do not believe in it until they sight the painful punishment.
202
فَيَأْتِيَهُم بَغْتَةً وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ faya-tiyahum baghtatan wahum lā yash`urūn It will overtake them suddenly while they are unaware.
203
فَيَقُولُوا۟ هَلْ نَحْنُ مُنظَرُونَ fayaqūlū hal naḥnu munẓarūn Thereupon they will say, ‘Shall we be granted any respite?’
204
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ afabi`adhābinā yasta`jilūn So do they seek to hasten on Our punishment?
205
أَفَرَءَيْتَ إِن مَّتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ سِنِينَ afara ayta in matta`nāhum sinīn Tell me, should We let them enjoy for some years,
206
ثُمَّ جَآءَهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ thumma jā-ahum mā kānū yū`adūn then there comes to them what they have been promised,
207
مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يُمَتَّعُونَ mā aghnā `anhum mā kānū yumatta`ūn of what avail to them will be that which they were given to enjoy?
208
وَمَآ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا لَهَا مُنذِرُونَ wa mā ahlaknā min qaryatin illā lahā mundhirūn We have not destroyed any town without its having warners,
209
ذِكْرَىٰ وَمَا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِينَ dhikrā wa mā kunnā ẓālimīn for the sake of admonition, and We were not unjust.
210
وَمَا تَنَزَّلَتْ بِهِ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينُ wa mā tanazzalat bihish shayāṭīn It has not been brought down by the devils.
211
وَمَا يَنۢبَغِى لَهُمْ وَمَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ wa mā yanbaghī lahum wa mā yastaṭī`ūn Neither does it behoove them, nor are they capable [of doing that].
212
إِنَّهُمْ عَنِ ٱلسَّمْعِ لَمَعْزُولُونَ innahum `anis sam`i lama`zūlūn Indeed, they are kept at bay [even] from hearing it.
213
فَلَا تَدْعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُعَذَّبِينَ falā tad`u ma`allāhi ilāhan ākhara fatakūna minal mu`adhhabīn So do not invoke any god besides Allah, lest you should be among the punished.
214
وَأَنذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ ٱلْأَقْرَبِينَ wa-andhir `ashīratakal-aqrabīn Warn the nearest of your kinsfolk,
215
وَٱخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ wakhfiḍ janāḥaka limanit-taba`aka minal mu-minīn and lower your wing to the faithful who follow you.
216
فَإِنْ عَصَوْكَ فَقُلْ إِنِّى بَرِىٓءٌ مِّمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ fa-in `aṣawka faqul innī barī-un mimmā ta`malūn But if they disobey you, say, ‘I am absolved of what you do.’
217
وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ watawakkal `alal-`azīzir raḥīm And put your trust in the All-mighty, the All-merciful,
218
ٱلَّذِى يَرَىٰكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ alladhī yarāka ḥīna taqūm who sees you when you stand [for prayer],
219
وَتَقَلُّبَكَ فِى ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ wataqallubaka fis sājidīn and your going about among those who prostrate.
220
إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ innahu huwas samī`ul `alīm Indeed He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing.
221
هَلْ أُنَبِّئُكُمْ عَلَىٰ مَن تَنَزَّلُ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينُ hal unabbi-ukum `alā man tanazzalush shayāṭīn Should I inform you on whom the devils descend?
222
تَنَزَّلُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ أَفَّاكٍ أَثِيمٍ tanazzalu `alā kulli affākin athīm They descend on every sinful liar.
223
يُلْقُونَ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ كَـٰذِبُونَ yulqūnas sam`a wa-aktharuhum kādhibūn They eavesdrop, and most of them are liars.
224
وَٱلشُّعَرَآءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ ٱلْغَاوُۥنَ wash shu`arā-u yattabi`uhumul ghāwūn As for the poets, [only] the perverse follow them.
225
أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّهُمْ فِى كُلِّ وَادٍ يَهِيمُونَ alam tara annahum fī kulli wādiy yahīmūn Have you not regarded that they rove in every valley,
226
وَأَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ مَا لَا يَفْعَلُونَ wa-annahum yaqūlūna mā lā yaf`alūn and that they say what they do not do?
227
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَذَكَرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرًا وَٱنتَصَرُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا ظُلِمُوا۟ ۗ وَسَيَعْلَمُ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَىَّ مُنقَلَبٍ يَنقَلِبُونَ illal ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti wadhakarullāha kathīran wantaṣarū min ba`di mā ẓulimū ۗ wasaya`lamul ladhīna ẓalamū ayya munqalabiy yanqalibūn Barring those who have faith, do righteous deeds, and remember Allah much often, and vindicate themselves after they have been wronged. And the wrongdoers will soon know at what goal they will end up.
