بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
الٓر ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ وَقُرْءَانٍ مُّبِينٍ alif lām rā ۚ tilka āyātul kitābi waqur-ānin mubīn Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the signs of the Book and a manifest Quran.
2
رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ مُسْلِمِينَ rubamā yawaddul ladhīna kafarū law kānū muslimīn Much will the faithless wish that they had been Muslims.
3
ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا۟ وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ وَيُلْهِهِمُ ٱلْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ dharhum ya-kulū wayatamatta`ū wayulhihimul-amal ۖ fasawfa ya`lamūn Leave them to eat and enjoy and to be diverted by longings. Soon they will know.
4
وَمَآ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌ مَّعْلُومٌ wa mā ahlaknā min qaryatin illā walahā kitābun ma`lūm We did not destroy any town but that it had a known term.
5
مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ mā tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahā wa mā yasta-khirūn No nation can advance its time nor can it defer it.
6
وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِى نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌ waqālū yā-ayyuhal ladhī nuzzila `alayhidh dhikru innaka lamajnūn They said, ‘O you, to whom the Reminder has been sent down, you are indeed crazy.
7
لَّوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ law mā ta-tīnā bil malā-ikati in kunta minaṣ ṣādiqīn Why do you not bring us the angels should you be truthful?!’
8
مَا نُنَزِّلُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوٓا۟ إِذًا مُّنظَرِينَ mā nunazzilul malā-ikata illā bil ḥaqqi wa mā kānū idhan munẓarīn We do not send down the angels except with due reason, and then they will not be granted any respite.
9
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَـٰفِظُونَ innā naḥnu nazzalnadh dhikra wa innā lahu laḥāfiẓūn Indeed We have sent down the Reminder, and indeed We will preserve it.
10
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِى شِيَعِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ walaqad arsalnā min qablika fī shiya`il-awwalīn Certainly We sent [apostles] before you to former communities,
11
وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ wa mā ya-tīhim min rasūlin illā kānū bihi yastahzi-ūn and there did not come to them any apostle but that they used to deride him.
12
كَذَٰلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُۥ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ kadhālika naslukuhu fī qulūbil mujrimīn That is how We let it pass through the hearts of the guilty:
13
لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۖ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ lā yu-minūna bih ۖ waqad khalat sunnatul-awwalīn they do not believe in it, and the precedent of the ancients has already passed.
14
وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَظَلُّوا۟ فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ walaw fataḥnā `alayhim bāban minas samā-i faẓallū fīhi ya`rujūn Were We to open for them a gate of the sky, so that they could go on ascending through it,
15
لَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَـٰرُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌ مَّسْحُورُونَ laqālū innamā sukkirat abṣārunā bal naḥnu qawmun mas-ḥūrūn they would surely say, ‘Indeed a spell has been cast on our eyes; indeed, we are a bewitched lot.’
16
وَلَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ بُرُوجًا وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَا لِلنَّـٰظِرِينَ walaqad ja`alnā fis samā-i burūjan wazayyannāhā linnāẓirīn Certainly We have appointed houses in the sky and adorned them for the onlookers,
17
وَحَفِظْنَـٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْطَـٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ waḥafiẓnāhā min kulli shayṭānin rajīm and We have guarded them from every outcast Satan,
18
إِلَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَرَقَ ٱلسَّمْعَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌ مُّبِينٌ illā manis-taraqas sam`a fa-atba`ahu shihābun mubīn except someone who may eavesdrop, whereat there pursues him a manifest flame.
19
وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَـٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ مَّوْزُونٍ wal-arḍa madadnāhā wa-alqaynā fīhā rawāsiya wa-anbatnā fīhā min kulli shay-in mawzūn And We spread out the earth, and cast in it firm mountains, and We grew in it every kind of balanced thing,
20
وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَـٰيِشَ وَمَن لَّسْتُمْ لَهُۥ بِرَٰزِقِينَ waja`alnā lakum fīhā ma`āyisha wa man lastum lahu birāziqīn and made in it [various] means of livelihood for you and for those whom you do not provide for.
21
وَإِن مِّن شَىْءٍ إِلَّا عِندَنَا خَزَآئِنُهُۥ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِقَدَرٍ مَّعْلُومٍ wa in min shay-in illā `indanā khazā-inuhu wa mā nunazziluhu illā biqadarin ma`lūm There is not a thing but that its sources are with Us, and We do not send it down except in a known measure.
22
وَأَرْسَلْنَا ٱلرِّيَـٰحَ لَوَٰقِحَ فَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَسْقَيْنَـٰكُمُوهُ وَمَآ أَنتُمْ لَهُۥ بِخَـٰزِنِينَ wa-arsalnar riyāḥa lawāqiḥa fa-anzalnā minas samā-i mā-an fa-asqaynākumūhu wa mā antum lahu bikhāzinīn And We send the fertilizing winds and send down water from the sky providing it for you to drink and you are not maintainers of its resources.
23
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ wa innā lanaḥnu nuḥyī wanumītu wanaḥnul wārithūn Indeed it is We who give life and bring death and We are the inheritors.
24
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَـْٔخِرِينَ walaqad `alimnal mustaqdimīna minkum walaqad `alimnal musta-khirīn Certainly We know the predecessors among you and certainly We know the successors,
25
وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ wa inna rabbaka huwa yaḥshuruhum ۚ innahu ḥakīmun `alīm and indeed it is your Lord who will resurrect them. Indeed, He is all-wise, all-knowing.
26
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِن صَلْصَـٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ walaqad khalaqnal-insāna min ṣalṣālin min ḥama-in masnūn Certainly We created man out of a dry clay [drawn] from an aging mud,
27
وَٱلْجَآنَّ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ مِن قَبْلُ مِن نَّارِ ٱلسَّمُومِ wal jānna khalaqnāhu min qablu min nāris samūm and We created the jinn earlier, out of a piercing fire.
28
وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَـٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًا مِّن صَلْصَـٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ wa idh qāla rabbuka lil-malā-ikati innī khāliqun basharan min ṣalṣālin min ḥama-in masnūn When your Lord said to the angels, ‘Indeed I am going to create a human out of a dry clay [drawn] from an aging mud.
29
فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُۥ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِى فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَـٰجِدِينَ fa-idhā sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu fīhi min rūḥī faqa`ū lahu sājidīn So when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My spirit, then fall down in prostration before him.’
30
فَسَجَدَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ fasajadal malā-ikatu kulluhum ajma`ūn Thereat the angels prostrated, all of them together,
31
إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ illā iblīsa abā an yakūna ma`as sājidīn but not Iblis: he refused to be among those who prostrated.
32
قَالَ يَـٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ qāla yā-iblīsu mā laka allā takūna ma`as sājidīn He said, ‘O Iblis! What kept you from being among those who have prostrated?’
33
قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن صَلْصَـٰلٍ مِّنْ حَمَإٍ مَّسْنُونٍ qāla lam akun li-asjuda libasharin khalaqtahu min ṣalṣālin min ḥama-in masnūn Said he, ‘I will not prostrate before a human whom You have created out of a dry clay [drawn] from an aging mud.’
34
قَالَ فَٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ qāla fakhruj minhā fa-innaka rajīm He said, ‘Begone hence, for you are indeed an outcast,
35
وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ ٱللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ wa inna `alaykalla`nata ilā yawmid dīn and indeed the curse shall lie on you until the Day of Retribution.’
36
قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ qāla rabbi fa-anẓirnī ilā yawmi yub`athūn He said, ‘My Lord! Respite me till the day they will be resurrected.’
37
قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ qāla fa-innaka minal munẓarīn Said He, ‘You are indeed among the reprieved
38
إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْوَقْتِ ٱلْمَعْلُومِ ilā yawmil waqtil ma`lūm until the day of the known time.’
39
قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ qāla rabbi bimā aghwaytanī la-uzayyinanna lahum fil-arḍi wala-ughwiyannahum ajma`īn He said, ‘My Lord! As You have consigned me to perversity, I will surely glamorize [evil] for them on the earth, and I will surely pervert them, all
40
إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ illā `ibādaka minhumul mukhlaṣīn except Your dedicated servants among them.’
41
قَالَ هَـٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ عَلَىَّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ qāla hādhā ṣirāṭun `alayya mustaqīm He said, ‘This is the path [leading] straight to Me.
42
إِنَّ عِبَادِى لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَـٰنٌ إِلَّا مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلْغَاوِينَ inna `ibādī laysa laka `alayhim sulṭānun illā manit-taba`aka minal ghāwyn Indeed, as for My servants you do not have any authority over them, except the perverse who follow you,
43
وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ wa inna jahannama lamaw`iduhum ajma`īn and indeed hell is the tryst of them all.
44
لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَٰبٍ لِّكُلِّ بَابٍ مِّنْهُمْ جُزْءٌ مَّقْسُومٌ lahā sab`atu abwābin likulli bābin minhum juz-un maqsūm It has seven gates, and to each gate belongs a separate portion of them.’
45
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ innal muttaqīna fī jannātin wa`uyūn Indeed the Godwary will be amid gardens and springs.
46
ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمٍ ءَامِنِينَ ud-khulūhā bisalāmin āminīn ‘‘Enter it in peace and safety!’’
47
وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ wanaza`nā mā fī ṣudūrihim min ghillin ikhwānan `alā sururin mutaqābilīn We will remove whatever rancour there is in their breasts; [intimate like] brothers, [they will be reclining] on couches, facing one another.
48
لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌ وَمَا هُم مِّنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ lā yamassuhum fīhā naṣabun wa mā hum minhā bimukhrajīn Therein neither weariness shall touch them, nor will they [ever] be expelled from it.
49
نَبِّئْ عِبَادِىٓ أَنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ nabbi-`ibādī annī anal ghafūrur raḥīm Inform my servants that I am indeed the All-forgiving, the All-merciful,
50
وَأَنَّ عَذَابِى هُوَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ٱلْأَلِيمُ wa-anna `adhābī huwal `adhābul-alīm and that My punishment is a painful punishment.
51
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَن ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ wanabbi-hum `an ḍayfi ibrāhīm And inform them about the guests of Abraham,
52
إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَـٰمًا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمْ وَجِلُونَ idh dakhalū `alayhi faqālū salāman qāla innā minkum wajilūn when they entered into his presence and said, ‘Peace!’ He said, ‘We are indeed afraid of you.’
53
قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَـٰمٍ عَلِيمٍ qālū lā tawjal innā nubashhiruka bighulāmin `alīm They said, ‘Do not be afraid. Indeed we give you the good news of a wise son.’
54
قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِى عَلَىٰٓ أَن مَّسَّنِىَ ٱلْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ qāla abashhartumūnī `alā an massaniyal kibaru fabima tubashhirūn He said, ‘Do you give me good news though old age has befallen me? What is the good news that you bring me?’
55
قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرْنَـٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْقَـٰنِطِينَ qālū bashharnāka bil ḥaqqi falā takun minal qāniṭīn They said, ‘We bring you good news in truth; so do not be despondent.’
56
قَالَ وَمَن يَقْنَطُ مِن رَّحْمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ qāla wa man yaqnaṭu min raḥmati rabbihi illaḍ ḍāllūn He said, ‘Who despairs of his Lord’s mercy except the astray?!’
57
قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ qāla famā khaṭbukum ayyuhal mursalūn He said, ‘O messengers, what is now your errand?’
58
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ qālū innā ursilnā ilā qawmin mujrimīn They said, ‘We have been sent toward a guilty people,
59
إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ illā āla lūṭin innā lamunajjūhum ajma`īn [who shall perish] except the family of Lot. We will indeed deliver all of them,
60
إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ قَدَّرْنَآ ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ illam-ra-atahu qaddarnā innahā laminal ghābirīn except his wife, [who], We have ordained, will indeed be among those who remain behind.’
61
فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ falammā jā-a āla lūṭinil-mursalūn So when the messengers came to Lot’s family,
62
قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ qāla innakum qawmun munkarūn he said, ‘You are indeed strangers [to me].’
63
قَالُوا۟ بَلْ جِئْنَـٰكَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ qālū bal ji-nāka bimā kānū fīhi yamtarūn They said, ‘Indeed, we bring you what they used to doubt.
64
وَأَتَيْنَـٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَـٰدِقُونَ wa-ataynāka bil ḥaqqi wa innā laṣādiqūn We bring you the truth, and indeed, we speak truly.
65
فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱتَّبِعْ أَدْبَـٰرَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌ وَٱمْضُوا۟ حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ fa-asri bi-ahlika biqiṭ`in minal layli wattabi` adbārahum walā yaltafit minkum aḥadun wamḍū ḥaythu tu-marūn Take your family in a watch of the night; and follow in their rear, and none of you should turn round, and proceed as you are bidden.’
66
وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَقْطُوعٌ مُّصْبِحِينَ waqaḍaynā ilayhi dhālikal-amra anna dābira hā-ulā-i maqṭū`un muṣbiḥīn We apprised him of the matter that these will be rooted out by dawn.
67
وَجَآءَ أَهْلُ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ wajā-a ahlul madīnati yastabshirūn The people of the city came, rejoicing.
68
قَالَ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ضَيْفِى فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ qāla inna hā-ulā-i ḍayfī falā tafḍaḥūn He said, ‘These are indeed my guests. Do not bring dishonour on me.
69
وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ wattaqullāha walā tukhzūn Be wary of Allah and do not humiliate me.’
70
قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ qālū awalam nanhaka `anil `ālamīn They said, ‘Did we not forbid you from [defending ] strangers?’
71
قَالَ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِىٓ إِن كُنتُمْ فَـٰعِلِينَ qāla hā-ulā-i banātī in kuntum fā`ilīn He said, ‘These are my daughters, [marry them] if you should do anything.’
72
لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِى سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ la`amruka innahum lafī sakratihim ya`mahūn By your life, they were bewildered in their drunkenness.
73
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ fa-akhadhat-humuṣ ṣayḥatu mushriqīn So the Cry seized them at sunrise,
74
فَجَعَلْنَا عَـٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ faja`alnā `āliyahā sāfilahā wa-amṭarnā `alayhim ḥijāratan min sijjīl and We made its topmost part its nethermost, and rained on them stones of shale.
75
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ inna fī dhālika la-āyātin lil-mutawassimīn There are indeed signs in that for the percipient.
76
وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍ مُّقِيمٍ wa innahā labisabīlin muqīm Indeed it is on a standing road,
77
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ inna fī dhālika la-āyatan lil-mu-minīn and there is indeed a sign in that for the faithful.
78
وَإِن كَانَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ لَظَـٰلِمِينَ wa in kāna aṣ-ḥābul-aykati laẓālimīn Indeed the inhabitants of Aykah were [also] wrongdoers.
79
فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍ مُّبِينٍ fantaqamnā minhum wa innahumā labi-imāmin mubīn So We took vengeance on them, and indeed the two of them are on an open highway.
80
وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْحِجْرِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ walaqad kadhhaba aṣ-ḥābul ḥijril mursalīn Certainly the inhabitants of Hijr denied the apostles.
81
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ ءَايَـٰتِنَا فَكَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ wa-ātaynāhum āyātinā fakānū `anhā mu`riḍīn We had given them Our signs but they disregarded them.
82
وَكَانُوا۟ يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا ءَامِنِينَ wakānū yanḥitūna minal jibāli buyūtan āminīn They used to hew out dwellings from mountains feeling secure.
83
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ fa-akhadhat-humuṣ ṣayḥatu muṣbiḥīn So the Cry seized them at dawn,
84
فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ famā aghnā `anhum mā kānū yaksibūn and what they used to earn did not avail them.
85
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَـَٔاتِيَةٌ ۖ فَٱصْفَحِ ٱلصَّفْحَ ٱلْجَمِيلَ wa mā khalaqnas samāwāti wal-arḍa wa mā baynahumā illā bil ḥaqq ۗ wa innas sā`ata la-ātiyah ۖ faṣfaḥiṣ ṣafḥal jamīl We did not create the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them except with consummate wisdom, and indeed the Hour is bound to come. So forbear with a graceful forbearance.
86
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلْخَلَّـٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ inna rabbaka huwal khallāqul `alīm Indeed your Lord is the All-creator, the All-knowing.
87
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَـٰكَ سَبْعًا مِّنَ ٱلْمَثَانِى وَٱلْقُرْءَانَ ٱلْعَظِيمَ walaqad ātaynāka sab`an minal mathānī wal qur-ānal `aẓīm Certainly We have given you [the surah of] the seven oft-repeated verses and the great Quran.
88
لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَٱخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ lā tamuddanna `aynayka ilā mā matta`nā bihi azwājan minhum walā taḥzan `alayhim wakhfiḍ janāḥaka lil-mu-minīn Do not extend your glance toward what We have provided to certain groups of them, and do not grieve for them, and lower your wing to the faithful,
89
وَقُلْ إِنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلنَّذِيرُ ٱلْمُبِينُ waqul innī anan nadhīrul mubīn and say, ‘I am indeed a manifest warner [of punishment from God],’
90
كَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَى ٱلْمُقْتَسِمِينَ kamā anzalnā `alal-muqtasimīn like that We sent down upon those who split into bands,
91
ٱلَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا۟ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ عِضِينَ alladhīna ja`alul qur-āna `iḍīn who represented the Quran as magic.
92
فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْـَٔلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ fawarabbika lanas-alannahum ajma`īn By your Lord, We will question them all
93
عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ `ammā kānū ya`malūn concerning what they used to do.
94
فَٱصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ faṣda` bimā tu-maru wa-a`riḍ `anil mushrikīn So proclaim what you have been commanded, and turn away from the polytheists.
95
إِنَّا كَفَيْنَـٰكَ ٱلْمُسْتَهْزِءِينَ innā kafaynākal mustahzi-iyn Indeed We will suffice you against the deriders
96
ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ alladhīna yaj`alūna ma`allāhi ilāhan ākhar ۚ fasawfa ya`lamūn —those who set up another deity besides Allah. Soon they will know!
97
وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ walaqad na`lamu annaka yaḍīqu ṣadruka bimā yaqūlūn Certainly We know that you become upset because of what they say.
98
فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ fasabbiḥ biḥamdi rabbika wakun minas sājidīn So celebrate the praise of your Lord and be among those who prostrate,
99
وَٱعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ ٱلْيَقِينُ wa`bud rabbaka ḥattā ya-tiyakal yaqīn and worship your Lord until certainty comes to you.
