بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

[This is] a Book, whose signs have been made definitive and then elaborated, from One [who is] all-wise, all-aware,
2
أَلَّا تَعْبُدُوٓا۟ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّنِى لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ وَبَشِيرٌ allā ta`budū illallāh ۚ innanī lakum minhu nadhīrun wabashīr declaring: ‘Worship no one but Allah. I am indeed a warner to you from Him and a bearer of good news.
3
وَأَنِ ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ يُمَتِّعْكُم مَّتَـٰعًا حَسَنًا إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى وَيُؤْتِ كُلَّ ذِى فَضْلٍ فَضْلَهُۥ ۖ وَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَإِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ كَبِيرٍ wa-anis-taghfirū rabbakum thumma tūbū ilayhi yumatti`kum matā`an ḥasanan ilā ajalin musamman wayu-ti kulla dhī faḍlin faḍlah ۖ wa in tawallaw fa-innī akhāfu `alaykum `adhāba yawmin kabīr Plead with your Lord for forgiveness, then turn to Him penitently. He will provide you with a good provision for a specified term and grant His grace to every meritorious person. But if you turn your backs [on Him], indeed I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day.
4
إِلَى ٱللَّهِ مَرْجِعُكُمْ ۖ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ ilallāhi marji`ukum ۖ wahuwa `alā kulli shay-in qadīr To Allah will be your return, and He has power over all things.’
5
They fold up their breasts to hide [their secret feelings] from Him. Look! When they draw their cloaks over their heads, He knows whatever they keep secret and whatever they disclose. Indeed, He knows best whatever is in the breasts.
6
وَمَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ رِزْقُهَا وَيَعْلَمُ مُسْتَقَرَّهَا وَمُسْتَوْدَعَهَا ۚ كُلٌّ فِى كِتَـٰبٍ مُّبِينٍ wa mā min dābbatin fil-arḍi illā `alallāhi rizquhā waya`lamu mustaqarrahā wa mustawda`ahā ۚ kullun fī kitābin mubīn There is no animal on the earth, but that its sustenance lies with Allah, and He knows its [enduring] abode and its temporary place of lodging. Everything is in a manifest Book.
7
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ وَكَانَ عَرْشُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلْمَآءِ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا ۗ وَلَئِن قُلْتَ إِنَّكُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ٱلْمَوْتِ لَيَقُولَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ wahuwal ladhī khalaqas samāwāti wal-arḍa fī sittati ayyāmin wakāna `arshuhu `alal-mā-i liyabluwakum ayyukum aḥsanu `amalā ۗ wala-in qulta innakum mab`ūthūna min ba`dil mawti layaqūlannal ladhīna kafarū in hādhā illā siḥrun mubīn It is He who created the heavens and the earth in six days—and His Throne was [then] upon the waters—that He may test you [to see] which of you is best in conduct. Yet if you say, ‘You will indeed be raised up after death,’ the faithless will surely say, ‘This is nothing but plain magic.’
8
وَلَئِنْ أَخَّرْنَا عَنْهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابَ إِلَىٰٓ أُمَّةٍ مَّعْدُودَةٍ لَّيَقُولُنَّ مَا يَحْبِسُهُۥٓ ۗ أَلَا يَوْمَ يَأْتِيهِمْ لَيْسَ مَصْرُوفًا عَنْهُمْ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ wala-in akhharnā `anhumul `adhāba ilā ummatim ma`dūdatin layaqūlunna mā yaḥbisuh ۗ alā yawma ya-tīhim laysa maṣrūfan `anhum waḥāqa bihim mā kānū bihi yastahzi-ūn And if We defer their punishment until a certain time, they will surely say, ‘What holds it back?’ Look! On the day it overtakes them it shall not be turned away from them, and they will be besieged by what they used to deride.
9
وَلَئِنْ أَذَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِنَّا رَحْمَةً ثُمَّ نَزَعْنَـٰهَا مِنْهُ إِنَّهُۥ لَيَـُٔوسٌ كَفُورٌ wala-in adhaqnal-insāna minnā raḥmatan thumma naza`nāhā minhu innahu laya-ūsun kafūr If We let man taste a mercy from Us, and then withdraw it from him, he becomes despondent, ungrateful.
10
وَلَئِنْ أَذَقْنَـٰهُ نَعْمَآءَ بَعْدَ ضَرَّآءَ مَسَّتْهُ لَيَقُولَنَّ ذَهَبَ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتُ عَنِّىٓ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَفَرِحٌ فَخُورٌ wala-in adhaqnāhu na`mā-a ba`da ḍarrā-a massat-hu layaqūlanna dhahabas sayyi-ātu `annī ۚ innahu lafariḥun fakhūr And if We let him have a taste of Our blessings after adversities have befallen him, he will surely say, ‘All ills have left me.’ Indeed, he becomes a vain braggart,
11
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ illal ladhīna ṣabarū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti ulā-ika lahum maghfiratun wa-ajrun kabīr excepting those who are patient and do righteous deeds. For such there will be forgiveness and a great reward.
12
فَلَعَلَّكَ تَارِكٌۢ بَعْضَ مَا يُوحَىٰٓ إِلَيْكَ وَضَآئِقٌۢ بِهِۦ صَدْرُكَ أَن يَقُولُوا۟ لَوْلَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيْهِ كَنزٌ أَوْ جَآءَ مَعَهُۥ مَلَكٌ ۚ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ نَذِيرٌ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَكِيلٌ fala`allaka tārikun ba`ḍa mā yūḥā ilayka waḍā-iqun bihi ṣadruka an yaqūlū lawlā unzila `alayhi kanzun aw jā-a ma`ahu malak ۚ innamā anta nadhīr ۚ wallāhu `alā kulli shay-in wakīl [Look out] lest you should disregard aught of what has been revealed to you, and be upset because they say, ‘Why has not a treasure been sent down to him, or [why does] not an angel accompany him?’ You are only a warner, and Allah watches over all things.
13
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ ۖ قُلْ فَأْتُوا۟ بِعَشْرِ سُوَرٍ مِّثْلِهِۦ مُفْتَرَيَـٰتٍ وَٱدْعُوا۟ مَنِ ٱسْتَطَعْتُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ am yaqūlūnaf-tarāh ۖ qul fa-tū bi`ashri suwarin mithlihi muftarayātin wad`ū manis-taṭa`tum min dūnillāhi in kuntum ṣādiqīn Do they say, ‘He has fabricated it?’ Say, ‘Then bring ten surahs like it, fabricated, and invoke whomever you can, besides Allah, should you be truthful.’
14
فَإِلَّمْ يَسْتَجِيبُوا۟ لَكُمْ فَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّمَآ أُنزِلَ بِعِلْمِ ٱللَّهِ وَأَن لَّآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ فَهَلْ أَنتُم مُّسْلِمُونَ fa-illam yastajībū lakum fa`lamū annamā unzila bi`il-millāhi wa-an lā ilāha illā huw ۖ fahal antum muslimūn But if they do not respond to you, know that it has been sent down by Allah’s knowledge, and that there is no god except Him. Will you, then, submit [to Allah]?
15
مَن كَانَ يُرِيدُ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا وَزِينَتَهَا نُوَفِّ إِلَيْهِمْ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ فِيهَا وَهُمْ فِيهَا لَا يُبْخَسُونَ man kāna yurīdul ḥayātad dunyā wazīnatahā nuwaffi ilayhim a`mālahum fīhā wahum fīhā lā yubkhasūn As for those who desire the life of this world and its glitter, We will recompense them fully for their works therein, and they shall not be underpaid in it.
16
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ إِلَّا ٱلنَّارُ ۖ وَحَبِطَ مَا صَنَعُوا۟ فِيهَا وَبَـٰطِلٌ مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ ulā-ikal ladhīna laysa lahum fil-ākhirati illan nār ۖ waḥabiṭa mā ṣana`ū fīhā wabāṭilun mā kānū ya`malūn They are the ones for whom there shall be nothing in the Hereafter but Fire: what they had accomplished in the world has failed, and their works have come to naught.
17
أَفَمَن كَانَ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّهِۦ وَيَتْلُوهُ شَاهِدٌ مِّنْهُ وَمِن قَبْلِهِۦ كِتَـٰبُ مُوسَىٰٓ إِمَامًا وَرَحْمَةً ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۚ وَمَن يَكْفُرْ بِهِۦ مِنَ ٱلْأَحْزَابِ فَٱلنَّارُ مَوْعِدُهُۥ ۚ فَلَا تَكُ فِى مِرْيَةٍ مِّنْهُ ۚ إِنَّهُ ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ afaman kāna `alā bayyinatim min rabbihi wayatlūhu shāhidun minhu wa min qablihi kitābu mūsā imāman waraḥmah ۚ ulā-ika yu-minūna bih ۚ wa man yakfur bihi minal-aḥzābi fan nāru maw`iduh ۚ falā taku fī miryatim minh ۚ innahul ḥaqqu min rabbika walākinna aktharan nāsi lā yu-minūn Is he who stands on a manifest proof from his Lord, and whom a witness of his own [family] follows? And before him there was the Book of Moses, a guide and mercy. It is they who have faith in it, and whoever defies him from among the factions, the Fire is their tryst. So do not be in doubt about it; it is the truth from your Lord, but most people do not have faith.
18
وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّنِ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يُعْرَضُونَ عَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْأَشْهَـٰدُ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَذَبُوا۟ عَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ ۚ أَلَا لَعْنَةُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَى ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ wa man aẓlamu mimmanif-tarā `alallāhi kadhibā ۚ ulā-ika yu`raḍūna `alā rabbihim wayaqūlul-ash-hādu hā-ulā-il ladhīna kadhabū `alā rabbihim ۚ alā la`natullāhi `alaẓ ẓālimīn Who is a greater wrongdoer than him who fabricates a lie against Allah? Such shall be presented before their Lord, and the witnesses will say, ‘It is these who lied against their Lord.’ Behold! The curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers
19
ٱلَّذِينَ يَصُدُّونَ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ وَيَبْغُونَهَا عِوَجًا وَهُم بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ هُمْ كَـٰفِرُونَ alladhīna yaṣuddūna `an sabīlillāhi wayabghūnahā `iwajan wahum bil-ākhirati hum kāfirūn —those who bar [others] from the way of Allah, and seek to make it crooked, and disbelieve in the Hereafter.
20
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ لَمْ يَكُونُوا۟ مُعْجِزِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا كَانَ لَهُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِنْ أَوْلِيَآءَ ۘ يُضَـٰعَفُ لَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ ۚ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يُبْصِرُونَ ulā-ika lam yakūnū mu`jizīna fil-arḍi wa mā kāna lahum min dūnillāhi min awliyā-a ۘ yuḍā`afu lahumul `adhāb ۚ mā kānū yastaṭī`ūnas sam`a wa mā kānū yubṣirūn They cannot frustrate [Allah] on the earth, nor do they have besides Allah any guardian. For them the punishment shall be doubled, for they could neither listen, nor did they use to see.
21
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ خَسِرُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ ulā-ikal ladhīna khasirū anfusahum waḍalla `anhum mā kānū yaftarūn They are the ones who have ruined their souls, and what they used to fabricate has forsaken them.
22
لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّهُمْ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ هُمُ ٱلْأَخْسَرُونَ lā jarama annahum fil-ākhirati humul-akhsarūn Undoubtedly, they are the ones who will be the biggest losers in the Hereafter.
23
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَأَخْبَتُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْجَنَّةِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَـٰلِدُونَ innal ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti wa-akhbatū ilā rabbihim ulā-ika aṣ-ḥābul jannah ۖ hum fīhā khālidūn Indeed those who have faith and do righteous deeds and are humble before their Lord—they shall be the inhabitants of paradise, and they shall remain in it [forever].
24
مَثَلُ ٱلْفَرِيقَيْنِ كَٱلْأَعْمَىٰ وَٱلْأَصَمِّ وَٱلْبَصِيرِ وَٱلسَّمِيعِ ۚ هَلْ يَسْتَوِيَانِ مَثَلًا ۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ mathalul farīqayni kal-a`mā wal-aṣammi wal baṣīri was samī` ۚ hal yastawiyāni mathalā ۚ afalā tadhakkarūn The parable of the two parties is that of one who is blind and deaf and one who sees and hears. Are they equal in comparison? Will you not then take admonition?
25
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦٓ إِنِّى لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ walaqad arsalnā nūḥan ilā qawmihi innī lakum nadhīrun mubīn Certainly We sent Noah to his people [to declare]: ‘Indeed I am a manifest warner to you.
26
أَن لَّا تَعْبُدُوٓا۟ إِلَّا ٱللَّهَ ۖ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ أَلِيمٍ an lā ta`budū illallāh ۖ innī akhāfu `alaykum `adhāba yawmin alīm Worship none but Allah. Indeed I fear for you the punishment of a painful day.’
27
فَقَالَ ٱلْمَلَأُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوْمِهِۦ مَا نَرَىٰكَ إِلَّا بَشَرًا مِّثْلَنَا وَمَا نَرَىٰكَ ٱتَّبَعَكَ إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ أَرَاذِلُنَا بَادِىَ ٱلرَّأْىِ وَمَا نَرَىٰ لَكُمْ عَلَيْنَا مِن فَضْلٍۭ بَلْ نَظُنُّكُمْ كَـٰذِبِينَ faqālal-mala-ul ladhīna kafarū min qawmihi mā narāka illā basharan mithlanā wa mā narākat-taba`aka illal ladhīna hum arādhilunā bādiyar ra-yi wa mā narā lakum `alaynā min faḍlin bal naẓunnukum kādhibīn But the elite of the faithless from among his people said, ‘We do not see you to be anything but a human being like ourselves, and we do not see anyone following you except those who are simpleminded riffraff from our midst. Nor do we see that you have any merit over us. Indeed, we consider you to be liars.’
28
قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِن كُنتُ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّى وَءَاتَىٰنِى رَحْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِهِۦ فَعُمِّيَتْ عَلَيْكُمْ أَنُلْزِمُكُمُوهَا وَأَنتُمْ لَهَا كَـٰرِهُونَ qāla yāqawmi ara aytum in kuntu `alā bayyinatim min rabbī wa-ātānī raḥmatan min `indihi fa`ummiyat `alaykum anulzimukumūhā wa-antum lahā kārihūn He said, ‘O my people! Tell me, should I stand on a manifest proof from my Lord, and He has granted me His own mercy—though it should be invisible to you—shall we force it upon you while you are averse to it?
29
وَيَـٰقَوْمِ لَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مَالًا ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِطَارِدِ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّهُم مُّلَـٰقُوا۟ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَـٰكِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰكُمْ قَوْمًا تَجْهَلُونَ wayāqawmi lā as-alukum `alayhi mālā ۖ in ajriya illā `alallāh ۚ wa mā ana biṭāridil ladhīna āmanū ۚ innahum mulāqū rabbihim walākinnī arākum qawman tajhalūn O my people! I do not ask you any material reward for it. My reward lies only with Allah. But I will not drive away those who have faith: they will indeed encounter their Lord. But I see that you are an ignorant lot.
30
وَيَـٰقَوْمِ مَن يَنصُرُنِى مِنَ ٱللَّهِ إِن طَرَدتُّهُمْ ۚ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ wayāqawmi man yanṣurunī minallāhi in ṭaradtuhum ۚ afalā tadhakkarūn O my people! Who would come to my help against Allah were I to drive them away? Will you not then take admonition?
31
وَلَآ أَقُولُ لَكُمْ عِندِى خَزَآئِنُ ٱللَّهِ وَلَآ أَعْلَمُ ٱلْغَيْبَ وَلَآ أَقُولُ إِنِّى مَلَكٌ وَلَآ أَقُولُ لِلَّذِينَ تَزْدَرِىٓ أَعْيُنُكُمْ لَن يُؤْتِيَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ خَيْرًا ۖ ٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ ۖ إِنِّىٓ إِذًا لَّمِنَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ walā aqūlu lakum `indī khazā-inullāhi walā a`lamul ghayba walā aqūlu innī malakun walā aqūlu lilladhīna tazdarī a`yunukum lan yu-tiyahumullāhu khayrā ۖ allāhu a`lamu bimā fī anfusihim ۖ innī idhal laminaẓ ẓālimīn I do not say to you that I possess the treasuries of Allah, neither do I know the Unseen. I do not claim to be an angel, neither do I say of those who are despicable in your eyes that Allah will not grant them any good—Allah knows best what is in their hearts—for then I would indeed be a wrongdoer.’
32
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰنُوحُ قَدْ جَـٰدَلْتَنَا فَأَكْثَرْتَ جِدَٰلَنَا فَأْتِنَا بِمَا تَعِدُنَآ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ qālū yānūḥu qad jādaltanā fa-aktharta jidālanā fa-tinā bimā ta`idunā in kunta minaṣ ṣādiqīn They said, ‘O Noah, you have disputed with us already, and you have disputed with us exceedingly. Now bring us what you threaten us with, should you be truthful.
33
قَالَ إِنَّمَا يَأْتِيكُم بِهِ ٱللَّهُ إِن شَآءَ وَمَآ أَنتُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ qāla innamā ya-tīkum bihillāhu in shā-a wa mā antum bimu`jizīn He said, ‘Allah will indeed bring it on you if He wishes, and you cannot frustrate [Him].
34
وَلَا يَنفَعُكُمْ نُصْحِىٓ إِنْ أَرَدتُّ أَنْ أَنصَحَ لَكُمْ إِن كَانَ ٱللَّهُ يُرِيدُ أَن يُغْوِيَكُمْ ۚ هُوَ رَبُّكُمْ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ walā yanfa`ukum nuṣ-ḥī in aradtu an anṣaḥa lakum in kānallāhu yurīdu an yughwiyakum ۚ huwa rabbukum wa ilayhi turja`ūn My exhorting will not benefit you, much as I may seek to exhort you, if Allah desires to consign you to perversity. He is your Lord, and to Him you shall be brought back.’
35
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ ٱفْتَرَىٰهُ ۖ قُلْ إِنِ ٱفْتَرَيْتُهُۥ فَعَلَىَّ إِجْرَامِى وَأَنَا۠ بَرِىٓءٌ مِّمَّا تُجْرِمُونَ am yaqūlūnaf-tarāh ۖ qul inif-taraytuhu fa`alayya ijrāmī wa-ana barī-un mimmā tujrimūn Do they say, ‘He has fabricated it?’ Say, ‘Should I have fabricated it, then my guilt will be upon me, and I am absolved of your guilty conduct.’
36
وَأُوحِىَ إِلَىٰ نُوحٍ أَنَّهُۥ لَن يُؤْمِنَ مِن قَوْمِكَ إِلَّا مَن قَدْ ءَامَنَ فَلَا تَبْتَئِسْ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ wa-ūḥiya ilā nūḥin annahu lan yu-mina min qawmika illā man qad āmana falā tabta-is bimā kānū yaf`alūn It was revealed to Noah: ‘None of your people will believe except those who already have faith; so do not sorrow for what they used to do.
37
وَٱصْنَعِ ٱلْفُلْكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَوَحْيِنَا وَلَا تُخَـٰطِبْنِى فِى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ ۚ إِنَّهُم مُّغْرَقُونَ waṣna`il fulka bi-a`yuninā wawaḥyinā walā tukhāṭibnī fil ladhīna ẓalamū ۚ innahum mughraqūn Build the ark before Our eyes and by Our revelation, and do not plead with Me for those who are wrongdoers: they shall indeed be drowned.’
38
وَيَصْنَعُ ٱلْفُلْكَ وَكُلَّمَا مَرَّ عَلَيْهِ مَلَأٌ مِّن قَوْمِهِۦ سَخِرُوا۟ مِنْهُ ۚ قَالَ إِن تَسْخَرُوا۟ مِنَّا فَإِنَّا نَسْخَرُ مِنكُمْ كَمَا تَسْخَرُونَ wayaṣna`ul fulka wakullamā marra `alayhi mala-un min qawmihi sakhirū minh ۚ qāla in taskharū minnā fa-innā naskharu minkum kamā taskharūn As he was building the ark, whenever the elders of his people passed by him, they would ridicule him. He said, ‘If you ridicule us [today], we shall ridicule you [tomorrow] just as you ridicule us [now].

قَالُوا۟ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا لَنَا فِى بَنَاتِكَ مِنْ حَقٍّ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَعْلَمُ مَا نُرِيدُ qālū laqad `alimta mā lanā fī banātika min ḥaqqin wa innaka lata`lamu mā nurīd They said, ‘You certainly know that we have no interest in your daughters, and indeed you know what we want.’
80
قَالَ لَوْ أَنَّ لِى بِكُمْ قُوَّةً أَوْ ءَاوِىٓ إِلَىٰ رُكْنٍ شَدِيدٍ qāla law anna lī bikum quwwatan aw āwy ilā ruknin shadīd He said, ‘If only I had the power to deter you, or could take refuge in a mighty support!’

قَالُوا۟ يَـٰلُوطُ إِنَّا رُسُلُ رَبِّكَ لَن يَصِلُوٓا۟ إِلَيْكَ ۖ فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍ مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌ إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَكَ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ مُصِيبُهَا مَآ أَصَابَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ مَوْعِدَهُمُ ٱلصُّبْحُ ۚ أَلَيْسَ ٱلصُّبْحُ بِقَرِيبٍ qālū yālūṭu innā rusulu rabbika lan yaṣilū ilayk ۖ fa-asri bi-ahlika biqiṭ`in minal layli walā yaltafit minkum aḥadun illam-ra-atak ۖ innahu muṣībuhā mā aṣābahum ۚ inna maw`idahumuṣ ṣubḥ ۚ alaysaṣ ṣubḥu biqarīb They said, ‘O Lot, we are messengers of your Lord. They will never get at you. Set out with your family in a watch of the night; and none of you shall turn round, except your wife; indeed she will be struck by what strikes them. Indeed their tryst is the dawn. Is not the dawn [already] near?’
82
فَلَمَّا جَآءَ أَمْرُنَا جَعَلْنَا عَـٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهَا حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ مَّنضُودٍ falammā jā-a amrunā ja`alnā `āliyahā sāfilahā wa-amṭarnā `alayhā ḥijāratan min sijjīlin manḍūd So when Our edict came, We made its topmost part its nethermost, and We rained on it stones of laminar shale,
83

وَإِلَىٰ مَدْيَنَ أَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبًا ۚ قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥ ۖ وَلَا تَنقُصُوا۟ ٱلْمِكْيَالَ وَٱلْمِيزَانَ ۚ إِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰكُم بِخَيْرٍ وَإِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ مُّحِيطٍ wa ilā madyana akhāhum shu`aybā ۚ qāla yāqawmi'-budullāha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruh ۖ walā tanquṣul mikyāla wal mīzān ۚ innī arākum bikhayrin wa innī akhāfu `alaykum `adhāba yawmin muḥīṭ And to Midian [We sent] Shu‘ayb, their brother. He said, ‘O my people! Worship Allah. You have no other god besides Him. Do not diminish the measure or the balance. Indeed I see that you are faring well, but I fear for you the punishment of an all-embracing day.’
85
وَيَـٰقَوْمِ أَوْفُوا۟ ٱلْمِكْيَالَ وَٱلْمِيزَانَ بِٱلْقِسْطِ ۖ وَلَا تَبْخَسُوا۟ ٱلنَّاسَ أَشْيَآءَهُمْ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ wayāqawmi awful mikyāla wal mīzāna bil qisṭ ۖ walā tabkhasun nāsa ashyā-ahum walā ta`thaw fil-arḍi mufsidīn ‘O my people! 86

87
قَالُوا۟ يَـٰشُعَيْبُ أَصَلَوٰتُكَ تَأْمُرُكَ أَن نَّتْرُكَ مَا يَعْبُدُ ءَابَآؤُنَآ أَوْ أَن نَّفْعَلَ فِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِنَا مَا نَشَـٰٓؤُا۟ ۖ إِنَّكَ لَأَنتَ ٱلْحَلِيمُ ٱلرَّشِيدُ qālū yāshu`aybu aṣalātuka ta-muruka an natruka mā ya`budu ābā-unā aw an naf`ala fī amwālinā mā nashā-u ۖ innaka la-antal ḥalīmur rashīd They said, ‘O Shu‘ayb, does your worship require that we abandon what our fathers have been worshiping, or that we should not do with our wealth whatever we wish? You are indeed [a] gentle and sensible [person].’
88
قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِن كُنتُ عَلَىٰ بَيِّنَةٍ مِّن رَّبِّى وَرَزَقَنِى مِنْهُ رِزْقًا حَسَنًا ۚ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَنْ أُخَالِفَكُمْ إِلَىٰ مَآ أَنْهَىٰكُمْ عَنْهُ ۚ إِنْ أُرِيدُ إِلَّا ٱلْإِصْلَـٰحَ مَا ٱسْتَطَعْتُ ۚ وَمَا تَوْفِيقِىٓ إِلَّا بِٱللَّهِ ۚ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَإِلَيْهِ أُنِيبُ qāla yāqawmi ara aytum in kuntu `alā bayyinatim min rabbī warazaqanī minhu rizqan ḥasanā ۚ wa mā urīdu an ukhālifakum ilā mā anhākum `anh ۚ in urīdu illal-iṣlāḥa mas-taṭa`t ۚ wa mā tawfīqī illā billāh ۚ `alayhi tawakkaltu wa ilayhi unīb He said, ‘O my people! Have you considered, should I stand on a manifest proof from my Lord, who has provided me a good provision from Himself? I do not wish to oppose you by what I forbid you. I only desire to put things in order, as far as I can, and my success lies only with Allah: in Him I have put my trust, and to Him I turn penitently.
89
وَيَـٰقَوْمِ لَا يَجْرِمَنَّكُمْ شِقَاقِىٓ أَن يُصِيبَكُم مِّثْلُ مَآ أَصَابَ قَوْمَ نُوحٍ أَوْ قَوْمَ هُودٍ أَوْ قَوْمَ صَـٰلِحٍ ۚ وَمَا قَوْمُ لُوطٍ مِّنكُم بِبَعِيدٍ wayāqawmi lā yajrimannakum shiqāqī an yuṣībakum mithlu mā aṣāba qawma nūḥin aw qawma hūdin aw qawma ṣāliḥ ۚ wa mā qawmu lūṭin minkum biba`īd O my people, do not let your defiance toward me lead you to be visited by the like of what was visited on the people of Noah, or the people of Hud, or the people of Salih, and the people of Lot are not distant from you.
90
وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبِّى رَحِيمٌ وَدُودٌ wastaghfirū rabbakum thumma tūbū ilayh ۚ inna rabbī raḥīmun wadūd Plead with your Lord for forgiveness, then turn to Him penitently. My Lord is indeed all-merciful, all-affectionate.’

Indeed we see that you are weak amongst us, and were it not for your tribe, we would have stoned you, and you are not a formidable [challenge] for us.’
92
قَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ أَرَهْطِىٓ أَعَزُّ عَلَيْكُم مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَٱتَّخَذْتُمُوهُ وَرَآءَكُمْ ظِهْرِيًّا ۖ إِنَّ رَبِّى بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطٌ qāla yāqawmi arahṭī a`azzu `alaykum minallāhi wattakhadhtumūhu warā-akum ẓihriyyā ۖ inna rabbī bimā ta`malūna muḥīṭ He said, ‘O my people! And the Cry seized those who were wrongdoers, whereat they lay lifeless prostrate in their homes,

ذَٰلِكَ مِنْ أَنۢبَآءِ ٱلْقُرَىٰ نَقُصُّهُۥ عَلَيْكَ ۖ مِنْهَا قَآئِمٌ وَحَصِيدٌ dhālika min anbā-il qurā naquṣṣuhu `alayk ۖ minhā qā-imun waḥaṣīd These are from the accounts of the townships, which We recount to you. Of them, there are some that still stand, and some that have been mown down.
101
وَمَا ظَلَمْنَـٰهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن ظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ ۖ فَمَآ أَغْنَتْ عَنْهُمْ ءَالِهَتُهُمُ ٱلَّتِى يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِن شَىْءٍ لَّمَّا جَآءَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ ۖ وَمَا زَادُوهُمْ غَيْرَ تَتْبِيبٍ wa mā ẓalamnāhum walākin ẓalamū anfusahum ۖ famā aghnat `anhum ālihatuhumul latī yad`ūna min dūnillāhi min shay-in lammā jā-a amru rabbik ۖ wa mā zādūhum ghayra tatbīb We did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves. When your Lord’s edict came, their gods whom they would invoke besides Allah were of no avail to them in any wise, and they did not increase them in anything but ruin.
102
وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَخْذُ رَبِّكَ إِذَآ أَخَذَ ٱلْقُرَىٰ وَهِىَ ظَـٰلِمَةٌ ۚ إِنَّ أَخْذَهُۥٓ أَلِيمٌ شَدِيدٌ wakadhālika akhdhu rabbika idhā akhadhal qurā wahiya ẓālimah ۚ inna akhdhahu alīmun shadīd Such is the seizing of your Lord when He seizes the townships that are wrongdoing. Indeed His seizing is painful and severe.
103
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّمَنْ خَافَ عَذَابَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمٌ مَّجْمُوعٌ لَّهُ ٱلنَّاسُ وَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمٌ مَّشْهُودٌ inna fī dhālika la-āyatan liman khāfa `adhābal-ākhirah ۚ dhālika yawmun majmū`ul lahun nāsu wadhālika yawmun mash-hūd There is indeed a sign in that for those who fear the punishment of the Hereafter. That is a day on which all mankind will be gathered, and it is a day witnessed [by all creatures].
104
وَمَا نُؤَخِّرُهُۥٓ إِلَّا لِأَجَلٍ مَّعْدُودٍ wa mā nu-akhhiruhu illā li-ajalin ma`dūd And We do not defer it but for a determinate term.

يَوْمَ يَأْتِ لَا تَكَلَّمُ نَفْسٌ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِۦ ۚ فَمِنْهُمْ شَقِىٌّ وَسَعِيدٌ yawma ya-ti lā takallamu nafsun illā bi-idhnih ۚ faminhum shaqiyyun wasa`īd The day it comes, no one shall speak except by His leave. [On that day,] some of them will be wretched and [some] felicitous.
106
فَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ شَقُوا۟ فَفِى ٱلنَّارِ لَهُمْ فِيهَا زَفِيرٌ وَشَهِيقٌ fa-ammal ladhīna shaqū fafin nāri lahum fīhā zafīrun washahīq As for the wretched, they shall be in the Fire: their lot therein will be groaning and wailing.
107
خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا مَا دَامَتِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ رَبُّكَ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ khālidīna fīhā mā dāmatis samāwātu wal-arḍu illā mā shā-a rabbuk ۚ inna rabbaka fa``ālul limā yurīd They shall remain in it for as long as the heavens and the earth endure—except what your Lord may wish; indeed your Lord does whatever He desires.
108
وَأَمَّا ٱلَّذِينَ سُعِدُوا۟ فَفِى ٱلْجَنَّةِ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا مَا دَامَتِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ رَبُّكَ ۖ عَطَآءً غَيْرَ مَجْذُوذٍ wa-ammal ladhīna su`idū fafil jannati khālidīna fīhā mā dāmatis samāwātu wal-arḍu illā mā shā-a rabbuk ۖ `aṭā-an ghayra majdhūdh As for the felicitous, they will be in paradise. They will remain in it for as long as the heavens and the earth endure—except what your Lord may wish—an endless bounty.
109
فَلَا تَكُ فِى مِرْيَةٍ مِّمَّا يَعْبُدُ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ۚ مَا يَعْبُدُونَ إِلَّا كَمَا يَعْبُدُ ءَابَآؤُهُم مِّن قَبْلُ ۚ وَإِنَّا لَمُوَفُّوهُمْ نَصِيبَهُمْ غَيْرَ مَنقُوصٍ falā taku fī miryatim mimmā ya`budu hā-ulā-i ۚ mā ya`budūna illā kamā ya`budu ābā-uhum min qabl ۚ wa innā lamuwaffūhum naṣībahum ghayra manqūṣ So do not be in doubt about what these worship: they worship just as their fathers worshiped before, and We shall surely pay them their full share, undiminished.
110
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ فَٱخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ ۚ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَقُضِىَ بَيْنَهُمْ ۚ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَفِى شَكٍّ مِّنْهُ مُرِيبٍ walaqad ātaynā mūsal kitāba fakhtulifa fīh ۚ walawlā kalimatun sabaqat min rabbika laquḍiya baynahum ۚ wa innahum lafī shakkin minhu murīb Certainly We gave Moses the Book, but differences arose about it, and were it not for a prior decree of your Lord, a decision would have been made between them; indeed they are in grave doubt concerning it.
111
وَإِنَّ كُلًّا لَّمَّا لَيُوَفِّيَنَّهُمْ رَبُّكَ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ wa inna kullal lammā layuwaffiyannahum rabbuka a`mālahum ۚ innahu bimā ya`malūna khabīr Your Lord will indeed recompense everyone fully for their works. Indeed, He is well aware of what they do.
112
فَٱسْتَقِمْ كَمَآ أُمِرْتَ وَمَن تَابَ مَعَكَ وَلَا تَطْغَوْا۟ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ fastaqim kamā umirta wa man tāba ma`aka walā taṭghaw ۚ innahu bimā ta`malūna baṣīr So be steadfast, just as you have been commanded—[you] and whoever has turned [to Allah] with you—and do not overstep the bounds. Indeed, He watches what you do.
113
وَلَا تَرْكَنُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ فَتَمَسَّكُمُ ٱلنَّارُ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مِنْ أَوْلِيَآءَ ثُمَّ لَا تُنصَرُونَ walā tarkanū ilal ladhīna ẓalamū fatamassakumun nāru wa mā lakum min dūnillāhi min awliyā-a thumma lā tunṣarūn Do not incline toward the wrongdoers, lest the Fire should touch you, and you will not have any friend besides Allah; then you will not be helped.
114
وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ طَرَفَىِ ٱلنَّهَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلْحَسَنَـٰتِ يُذْهِبْنَ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ذِكْرَىٰ لِلذَّٰكِرِينَ wa-aqimiṣ ṣalāta ṭarafayin nahāri wazulafan minal layl ۚ innal ḥasanāti yudh-hibnas sayyi-āt ۚ dhālika dhikrā lidhhākirīn Maintain the prayer at the two ends of the day, and during the early hours of the night. Indeed good deeds efface misdeeds. That is an admonition for the mindful.
115
وَٱصْبِرْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ waṣbir fa-innallāha lā yuḍī`u ajral muḥsinīn And be patient; indeed Allah does not waste the reward of the virtuous.
116
فَلَوْلَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْقُرُونِ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ أُو۟لُوا۟ بَقِيَّةٍ يَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ ٱلْفَسَادِ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا مِّمَّنْ أَنجَيْنَا مِنْهُمْ ۗ وَٱتَّبَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ مَآ أُتْرِفُوا۟ فِيهِ وَكَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ falawlā kāna minal qurūni min qablikum ulū baqiyyatin yanhawna `anil fasādi fil-arḍi illā qalīlan mimman anjaynā minhum ۗ wattaba`al ladhīna ẓalamū mā utrifū fīhi wakānū mujrimīn Why were there not among the generations before you a remnant [of the wise] who might forbid corruption in the earth, except a few of those whom We delivered from among them? Those who were wrongdoers pursued that in which they had been granted affluence, and they were a guilty lot.
117
وَمَا كَانَ رَبُّكَ لِيُهْلِكَ ٱلْقُرَىٰ بِظُلْمٍ وَأَهْلُهَا مُصْلِحُونَ wa mā kāna rabbuka liyuhlikal qurā biẓul-min wa-ahluhā muṣliḥūn Your Lord would never destroy the townships unjustly while their inhabitants were bringing about reform.
118
وَلَوْ شَآءَ رَبُّكَ لَجَعَلَ ٱلنَّاسَ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً ۖ وَلَا يَزَالُونَ مُخْتَلِفِينَ walaw shā-a rabbuka laja`alan nāsa ummatan wāḥidah ۖ walā yazālūna mukhtalifīn Had your Lord wished, He would have made mankind one community; but they continue to differ,
119

121

122

وَلِلَّهِ غَيْبُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ يُرْجَعُ ٱلْأَمْرُ كُلُّهُۥ فَٱعْبُدْهُ وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَيْهِ ۚ وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِغَـٰفِلٍ عَمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ walillāhi ghaybus samāwāti wal-arḍi wa ilayhi yurja`ul-amru kulluhu fa`bud-hu watawakkal `alayh ۚ wa mā rabbuka bighāfilin `ammā ta`malūn To Allah belongs the Unseen of the heavens and the earth, and to Him all matters are returned. So worship Him and trust in Him. Your Lord is not oblivious of what you do.
