Al-Alaq (#96)

Translation

أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ an ra-āhus taghnā when he considers himself without need.
8
إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ inna ilā rabbikar ruj`ā Indeed to your Lord is the return.
9
أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ ara aytal ladhī yanhā Tell me, he who forbids
10
عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ `abdan idhā ṣallā a servant when he prays,
11
أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ara ayta in kāna `alal-hudā tell me, should he be on [true] guidance,
12
أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ aw amara bit taqwā or bid [others] to Godwariness,
13
أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ ara ayta in kadhhaba watawallā tell me, should he call him a liar and turn away
14
أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ alam ya`lam bi-annallāha yarā —does he not know that Allah sees [him]?
15
كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ kallā la-in lam yantahi lanasfa`an bin nāṣiyah No indeed! If he does not cease, We shall seize him by the forelock,
16
نَاصِيَةٍ كَـٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ nāṣiyatin kādhibatin khāṭi-ah a lying, sinful forelock!
17
فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ falyad`u nādiyah Then let him call out his gang!
18
سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ sanad`uz zabāniyah We [too] shall call the keepers of hell.
19
كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب ۩ kallā lā tuṭi`hu wasjud waqtarib ۩ No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate and draw near [to Allah]!
