بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.
1
وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰ wal layli idhā yaghshā I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over,
2
وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّىٰ wan nahāri idhā tajallā And the day when it shines in all its glory,
3
وَمَا خَلَقَ ٱلذَّكَرَ وَٱلْأُنثَىٰٓ wa mā khalaqadh dhakara wal-unthā And Him who created the male and female,
4
إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّىٰ inna sa`yakum lashattā That your endeavour is for different ends.
5
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَىٰ وَٱتَّقَىٰ fa-ammā man a`ṭā wattaqā Yet he who gives to others and has fear,
6
وَصَدَّقَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ waṣaddaqa bil ḥusnā And affirms goodness,
7
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ fasanuyassiruhu lilyusrā We shall ease the way of fortune for him.
8
وَأَمَّا مَنۢ بَخِلَ وَٱسْتَغْنَىٰ wa-ammā man bakhila wastaghnā But he who does not give and is unconcerned,
9
وَكَذَّبَ بِٱلْحُسْنَىٰ wakadhhaba bil ḥusnā And rejects goodness,
10
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُۥ لِلْعُسْرَىٰ fasanuyassiruhu lil`usrā For him We shall ease the way of adversity,
11
وَمَا يُغْنِى عَنْهُ مَالُهُۥٓ إِذَا تَرَدَّىٰٓ wa mā yughnī `anhu māluhu idhā taraddā And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss).
12
إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَىٰ inna `alaynā lalhudā It is indeed for Us to show the way,
13
وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْـَٔاخِرَةَ وَٱلْأُولَىٰ wa inna lanā lal-ākhirata wal-ūlā And to Us belong the End and the Beginning.
14
فَأَنذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًا تَلَظَّىٰ fa-andhartukum nāran talaẓẓā So, I warn you of the blazing Fire.
15
لَا يَصْلَىٰهَآ إِلَّا ٱلْأَشْقَى lā yaṣlāhā illal-ashqā No one will burn in it but the most wretched,
16
ٱلَّذِى كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ alladhī kadhhaba watawallā Who denied (the truth) and turned away.
17
وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَتْقَى wasayujannabuhal-atqā But save him who fears
18
ٱلَّذِى يُؤْتِى مَالَهُۥ يَتَزَكَّىٰ alladhī yu-tī mālahu yatazakkā And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue,
19
وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِندَهُۥ مِن نِّعْمَةٍ تُجْزَىٰٓ wa mā li-aḥadin `indahu min ni`matin tujzā And is under no one's obligation to return his favour,
20
إِلَّا ٱبْتِغَآءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ illab-tighā-a wajhi rabbihil-a`lā Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high,
21
وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضَىٰ walasawfa yarḍā Will surely be gratified.
