Al-Ghashiyah (#88)

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَـٰشِيَةِ hal atāka ḥadīthul ghāshiyah Did you receive the account of the Enveloper?
2
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَـٰشِعَةٌ wujūhun yawma-idhin khāshi`ah Some faces on that day will be humbled,
3
عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ `āmilatun nāṣibah wrought-up and weary:
4
تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً taṣlā nāran ḥāmiyah they will enter a scorching fire
5
تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍ tusqā min `aynin āniyah and made to drink from a boiling spring.
6
لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ laysa lahum ṭa`āmun illā min ḍarī` They will have no food except cactus,
7
لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ lā yusminu walā yughnī min jū` neither nourishing, nor of avail against hunger.
8
وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ wujūhun yawma-idhin nā`imah Some faces on that day will be joyous,
9
لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ lisa`yihā rāḍiyah pleased with their endeavour,
10
فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ fī jannatin `āliyah in a lofty garden,
11
لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَـٰغِيَةً lā tasma`u fīhā lāghiyah where they will not hear any vain talk.
12
فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ fīhā `aynun jāriyah In it is a flowing spring
13
فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ fīhā sururun marfū`ah and raised couches,
14
وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ wa-akwābun mawḍū`ah with goblets set,
15
وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ wanamāriqu maṣfūfah and cushions laid out in an array,
16
وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ wazarābiyyu mabthūthah and carpets spread out.
17
أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ afalā yanẓurūna ilal-ibili kayfa khuliqat Do they not observe the camel, [to see] how it has been created?
18
وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ wa ilas samā-i kayfa rufi`at and the sky, how it has been raised?
19
وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ wa ilal-jibāli kayfa nuṣibat and the mountains, how they have been set?
20
وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ wa ilal-arḍi kayfa suṭiḥat and the earth, how it has been surfaced?
21
فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ fadhakkir innamā anta mudhakkir So admonish—for you are only an admonisher,
22
لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ lasta `alayhim bimuṣayṭir and not a taskmaster over them—
23
إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ illā man tawallā wakafar except him who turns back and disbelieves.
24
فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ fayu`adhhibuhullāhul `adhābal-akbar Him Allah will punish with the greatest punishment.
25
إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ inna ilaynā iyābahum Indeed to Us will be their return.
26
ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم thumma inna `alaynā ḥisābahum Then, indeed, their reckoning will lie with Us.
