Al-A'la (#87)

Translation

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
سَبِّحِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلْأَعْلَى sabbiḥis-ma rabbikal-a`lā Celebrate the Name of your Lord, the Most Exalted,
2
ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ alladhī khalaqa fasawwā who created and proportioned,
3
وَٱلَّذِى قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ wal ladhī qaddara fahadā who determined and guided,
4
وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَخْرَجَ ٱلْمَرْعَىٰ wal ladhī akhrajal mar`ā who brought forth the pasture
5
فَجَعَلَهُۥ غُثَآءً أَحْوَىٰ faja`alahu ghuthā-an aḥwā and then turned it into a black scum.
6
سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰٓ sanuqri-uka falā tansā We shall have you recite [the Quran], then you will not forget [any of it]
7
إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ illā mā shā-allāh ۚ innahu ya`lamul jahra wa mā yakhfā except what Allah may wish. Indeed, He knows the open and what is hidden.
8
وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ wanuyassiruka lilyusrā And We shall ease you into facility.
9
فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ fadhakkir in nafa`atidh dhikrā So admonish, for admonition is indeed beneficial:
10
سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ sayadhhakkaru man yakhshā he who fears [God] will take admonition,
11
وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَشْقَى wayatajannabuhal-ashqā and the most wretched will shun it
12
ٱلَّذِى يَصْلَى ٱلنَّارَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ alladhī yaṣlan nāral kubrā —he who will enter the Great Fire,
13
ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ thumma lā yamūtu fīhā walā yaḥyā then he will neither live in it, nor die.
14
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ qad aflaḥa man tazakkā ‘Felicitous is he who purifies himself,
15
وَذَكَرَ ٱسْمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ wadhakaras-ma rabbihi faṣallā celebrates the Name of his Lord, and prays.
16
بَلْ تُؤْثِرُونَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا bal tu-thirūnal ḥayātad dunyā But you prefer the life of this world,
17
وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰٓ wal-ākhiratu khayrun wa-abqā while the Hereafter is better and more lasting.’
18
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَفِى ٱلصُّحُفِ ٱلْأُولَىٰ inna hādhā lafiṣ ṣuḥufil-ūlā This is indeed in the former scriptures,
19
صُحُفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ وَمُوسَىٰ ṣuḥufi ibrāhīma wa mūsā the scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
