بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.
1
وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ was samā-i dhātil burūj I CALL TO witness the sky (bespangled) with the signs of the Zodiac,
2
وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ wal yawmil maw`ūd And the promised day,
3
وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ washāhidin wa mash-hūd And the witness and the witnessed,
4
قُتِلَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ qutila aṣ-ḥābul-ukhdūd That accursed are the men of the trench
5
ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ an-nāri dhātil waqūd Full of fire fed by faggots,
6
إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ idh hum `alayhā qu`ūd As they sat around it
7
وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ wahum `alā mā yaf`alūna bil mu-minīna shuhūd Witnessing what they had done to the believers!
8
وَمَا نَقَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ wa mā naqamū minhum illā an yu-minū billāhil `azīzil ḥamīd They had no other reason for hating them except that they believed in God the mighty, worthy of praise,
9
ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدٌ alladhī lahu mulkus samāwāti wal-arḍ ۚ wallāhu `alā kulli shay-in shahīd Whose kingdom spreads over the heavens and the earth. God is witness over everything.
10
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا۟ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا۟ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ ٱلْحَرِيقِ innal ladhīna fatanul mu-minīna wal mu-mināti thumma lam yatūbū falahum `adhābu jahannama walahum `adhābul ḥarīq Surely for those who persecute believers, men and women, and do not repent afterwards, is the punishment of Hell, and the punishment of burning.
11
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ innal ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti lahum jannātun tajrī min taḥtihal-anhār ۚ dhālikal fawzul kabīr Surely for those who believe and do the right are gardens with rivers running by. That is the greatest success.
12
إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ inna baṭsha rabbika lashadīd The grip of your Lord is severe indeed!
13
إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ innahu huwa yubdi-u wayu`īd It is verily He who initiates and repeats.
14
وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُ wahuwal ghafūrul wadūd He is the forgiving and the loving,
15
ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْمَجِيدُ dhul `arshil majīd The Lord of the glorious Throne,
16
فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ fa``ālul limā yurīd Who does as He pleases.
17
هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْجُنُودِ hal atāka ḥadīthul junūd Has the story of the hordes
18
فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ fir`awna wathamūd Of Pharaoh and Thamud come to you?
19
بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى تَكْذِيبٍ balil ladhīna kafarū fī takdhīb Yet the infidels persist in denial.
20
وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطٌۢ wallāhu min warā-ihim muḥīṭ But God surrounds them from all sides.
21
بَلْ هُوَ قُرْءَانٌ مَّجِيدٌ bal huwa qur-ānun majīd This is indeed the glorious Qur'an
22
فِى لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوظٍۭ fī lawḥin maḥfūẓ (Preserved) on the guarded tablet.
