Al-Inshiqaq (#84)

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
1
إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتْ idhas samā-un shaqqat When the sky is split open
2
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ wa-adhinat lirabbihā waḥuqqat and gives ear to its Lord as it should.
3
وَإِذَا ٱلْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ wa idhal-arḍu muddat When the earth is spread out
4
وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ wa-alqat mā fīhā watakhallat and throws out what is in it, emptying itself,
5
وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ wa-adhinat lirabbihā waḥuqqat and gives ear to its Lord as it should.
6
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَـٰقِيهِ yā-ayyuhal-insānu innaka kādiḥun ilā rabbika kad-ḥan famulāqīh O man! You are labouring toward your Lord laboriously, and you will encounter Him.
7
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ fa-ammā man ūtiya kitābahu biyamīnih Then, as for him who is given his record [of deeds] in his right hand,
8
فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا fasawfa yuḥāsabu ḥisāban yasīrā he will receive an easy reckoning,
9
وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا wayanqalibu ilā ahlihi masrūrā and he will return to his folks joyfully.
10
وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهْرِهِۦ wa-ammā man ūtiya kitābahu warā-a ẓahrih But as for him who is given his record from behind his back,
11
فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوا۟ ثُبُورًا fasawfa yad`ū thubūrā he will pray for annihilation
12
وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا wayaṣlā sa`īrā and enter the Blaze.
13
إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا innahu kāna fī ahlihi masrūrā Indeed he used to be joyful among his folk,
14
إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ innahu ẓanna an lan yaḥūr and he thought that he would never return.
15
بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرًا balā inna rabbahu kāna bihi baṣīrā Yes, his Lord had been watching him.
16
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ falā uqsimu bish shafaq I swear by the evening glow,
17
وَٱلَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ wal layli wa mā wasaq by the night and what it is fraught with,
18
وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ wal qamari idhat-tasaq by the moon when it blooms full:
19
لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ latarkabunna ṭabaqan `an ṭabaq you will surely fare from stage to stage.
20
فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ famā lahum lā yu-minūn What is the matter with them that they will not believe,
21
وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩ wa idhā quri-a `alayhimul qur-ānu lā yasjudūn ۩ and will not prostrate when the Quran is recited to them?
وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ wallāhu a`lamu bimā yū`ūn and Allah knows best what they keep to themselves.
24
فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ fabashhirhum bi`adhābin alīm So inform them of a painful punishment,
25
إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۭ illal ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti lahum ajrun ghayru mamnūn excepting such as are faithful and do righteous deeds: for them there will be an everlasting reward.
