Al-Muṭaffifīn (#83)

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.
1
وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ waylul lil-muṭaffifīn WOE TO THOSE who give short measure,
2
ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ alladhīna idhak-tālū `alan nāsi yastawfūn Who insist on being given full when they take from others,
3
وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ wa idhā kālūhum aw wazanūhum yukhsirūn Whilst when they measure or weigh for them, give less.
4
أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ alā yaẓunnu ulā-ika annahum mab`ūthūn Do they not think they will be raised (to life) again
5
لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ liyawmin `aẓīm On a grievous day,
6
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ yawma yaqūmun nāsu lirabbil `ālamīn The day all mankind will stand before the Lord of all the worlds?
7
كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍ kallā inna kitābal fujjāri lafī sijjīn Indeed the ledger of the wicked will be in (the lowest depths) Sijjin.
8
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ wa mā adrāka mā sijjīn How will you comprehend what Sijjin is?
9
كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ kitābun marqūm It is a (repository of) distinctly written record.
10
وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ waylun yawma-idhin lil-mukadhhibīn Ah the woe that day for those who deny,
11
ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ alladhīna yukadhhibūna biyawmid dīn Who call the Day of judgement a lie!
12
وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ wa mā yukadhhibu bihi illā kullu mu`tadin athīm None denies it but the sinful transgressors.
13
إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ idhā tutlā `alayhi āyātunā qāla asāṭīrul-awwalīn When Our revelations are recited before him, he says: "These are fables of long ago."
14
كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ kallā ۖ bal ۜ rāna `alā qulūbihim mā kānū yaksibūn No. In fact what they have been doing has rusted their hearts.
15
كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ kallā innahum `an rabbihim yawma-idhin lamaḥjūbūn Therefore they will be screened off from their Lord that day,
16
ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ thumma innahum laṣālul jaḥīm Then they will indeed burn in Hell.
17
ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ thumma yuqālu hādhal ladhī kuntum bihi tukadhhibūn They will then be told: "This is what you had denied."
18
كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ kallā inna kitābal-abrāri lafī `illiyyīn Surely the ledger of the pious will be in 'Illiyun (heights above the heights).
19
وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ wa mā adrāka mā `illiyyūn But how will you comprehend what 'Illiyun is?
20
كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ kitābun marqūm It is a (repository of) distinctly written record
21
يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ yash-haduhul muqarrabūn Witnessed by those who are honoured.
22
إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ innal-abrāra lafī na`īm Verily the pious will be in heaven,
23
عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ `alal-arā-iki yanẓurūn On couches face to face.
24
تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ta`rifu fī wujūhihim naḍratan na`īm On their faces you will see the glow of beatitude.
25
يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ yusqawna min raḥīqin makhtūm They will be served the choicest wine, sealed
26
خِتَـٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَـٰفِسُونَ khitāmuhu misk ۚ wafī dhālika falyatanāfasil mutanāfisūn With a sealing of musk, which those who aspire for the best should desire, --
27
وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ wa mizājuhu min tasnīm Blended with the water of Tasnim, (heights ultimate of evolution),
28
عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ `aynan yashrabu bihal muqarrabūn A fountain from which only they who are honoured drink.
وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ wa idhā marrū bihim yataghāmazūn And winked at one another as they passed by them;
31
وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ wa idhan-qalabū ilā ahlihimun-qalabū fakihīn And when they went back to their people turned to make fun of them;
32
وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ wa idhā ra-awhum qālū inna hā-ulā-i laḍāllūn And when they saw them, they said: "They have indeed gone astray."
33
وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَـٰفِظِينَ wa mā ursilū `alayhim ḥāfiẓīn But they were not Sent to be guardians over them!
34
فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ fal yawmal ladhīna āmanū minal kuffāri yaḍ-ḥakūn So, the believers will laugh at the infidels on that day,
35
عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ `alal-arā-iki yanẓurūn Regarding them from their cushioned seats.
36
هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ hal thuwwibal kuffāru mā kānū yaf`alūn Will not the infidels pay for what they had done?
