بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.
1
عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ `amma yatasā-alūn OF WHAT ARE they asking one another?
2
عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ `anin naba-il `aẓīm (Is it) of the great announcement
3
ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ alladhī hum fīhi mukhtalifūn About which they have been differing?
4
كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ kallā saya`lamūn Indeed they will come to know soon;
5
ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ thumma kallā saya`lamūn They will indeed come to know soon.
6
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَـٰدًا alam naj`alil-arḍa mihādā Did We not make the earth a spreading,
7
وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا wal jibāla awtādā The mountains tent-pins?
8
وَخَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا wakhalaqnākum azwājā We created you in pairs,
9
وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا waja`alnā nawmakum subātā And made sleep for you to rest,
10
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا waja`alnal layla libāsā The night a covering,
11
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا waja`alnan nahāra ma`āshā And the day for seeking livelihood.
12
وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا wabanaynā fawqakum sab`an shidādā We raised over you several secure (skies),
13
وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا waja`alnā sirājan wahhājā And placed a lamp therein brightly burning.
14
وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا wa-anzalnā minal mu`ṣirāti mā-an thajjājā And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents
15
لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا linukhrija bihi ḥabban wanabātā That We may produce from it grain and vegetation,
16
وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا wajannātin alfāfā And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs.
17
إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَـٰتًا inna yawmal faṣli kāna mīqātā Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement.
18
يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا yawma yunfakhu fiṣ ṣūri fata-tūna afwājā The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes;
19
وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًا wafutiḥatis samā-u fakānat abwābā The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors,
20
وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا wasuyyiratil jibālu fakānat sarābā The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage.
لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًا liṭṭāghīna ma-ābā The rebels' abode,
23
لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًا lābithīna fīhā aḥqābā Where they will remain for aeons,
24
لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا lā yadhūqūna fīhā bardan walā sharābā Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink
25
إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا illā ḥamīman waghassāqā Except boiling water and benumbing cold:
26
جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا jazā-an wifāqā , A fitting reward.
27
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا innahum kānū lā yarjūna ḥisābā They were those who did not expect a reckoning,
28
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا wakadhhabū bi-āyātinā kidhhābā And rejected Our signs as lies.
29
وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ كِتَـٰبًا wakulla shay-in aḥṣaynāhu kitābā We have kept account of everything in a book.
30
فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا fadhūqū falan nazīdakum illā `adhābā So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment,
31
إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا inna lil-muttaqīna mafāzā As for those who preserve themselves from evil and follow the straight path, there is attainment for them:
32
حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَـٰبًا ḥadā-iqa wa-a`nābā Orchards and vineyards,
33
وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا wakawā`iba atrābā And graceful maidens of the same age,
34
وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا waka-san dihāqā And flasks full and flowing.
35
لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًا lā yasma`ūna fīhā laghwan walā kidhhābā They will hear no blasphemies there or disavowals:
36
جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا jazā-an min rabbika `aṭā-an ḥisābā A recompense from your Lord, a sufficient gift,
37
رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا rabbis samāwāti wal-arḍi wa mā baynahumar raḥmān ۖ lā yamlikūna minhu khiṭābā The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that lies between them, most benevolent, to whom none may dare address a word.
38
يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا yawma yaqūmur rūḥu wal malā-ikatu ṣaffā ۖ lā yatakallamūna illā man adhina lahur raḥmānu waqāla ṣawābā The day the Spirit takes its stand, with the angels ranged in rows. None will speak except who is permitted by Ar-Rahman and says what is right.
39
ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا dhālikal yawmul ḥaqq ۖ faman shā-at-takhadha ilā rabbihi ma-ābā That day is certain. So whosoever likes may prepare a way to his Lord.
40
إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَـٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا innā andharnākum `adhāban qarīban yawma yanẓurul mar-u mā qaddamat yadāhu wayaqūlul kāfiru yālaytanī kuntu turābā We have indeed warned you of a calamity near at hand, a day when man will see what he had sent (of his deeds) ahead, and the unbeliever will say: "Woe alas. Ah would that I were dust!"
