بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.
1
تَبَـٰرَكَ ٱلَّذِى بِيَدِهِ ٱلْمُلْكُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ tabārakal ladhī biyadihil mulku wahuwa `alā kulli shay-in qadīr BLESSED BE HE who holds the (reins of) Kingship in His hand, who has power over everything,
2
ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَٱلْحَيَوٰةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْغَفُورُ alladhī khalaqal mawta wal ḥayāta liyabluwakum ayyukum aḥsanu `amalā ۚ wahuwal `azīzul ghafūr Who created death and life in order to try you to see who of you are best of deed. He is all-mighty and forgiving,
3
ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَٰتٍ طِبَاقًا ۖ مَّا تَرَىٰ فِى خَلْقِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ مِن تَفَـٰوُتٍ ۖ فَٱرْجِعِ ٱلْبَصَرَ هَلْ تَرَىٰ مِن فُطُورٍ alladhī khalaqa sab`a samāwātin ṭibāqā ۖ mā tarā fī khalqir raḥmāni min tafāwut ۖ farji`il baṣara hal tarā min fuṭūr Who created the seven skies one above the other. Do you see any disproportion in the creations of Ar-Rahman? Turn your eyes again. Do you see any fissures?
4
ثُمَّ ٱرْجِعِ ٱلْبَصَرَ كَرَّتَيْنِ يَنقَلِبْ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْبَصَرُ خَاسِئًا وَهُوَ حَسِيرٌ thummar-ji`il baṣara karratayni yanqalib ilaykal baṣaru khāsi-an wahuwa ḥasīr Turn your eyes again and again. Your gaze turns back dazed and tired.
5
وَلَقَدْ زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِمَصَـٰبِيحَ وَجَعَلْنَـٰهَا رُجُومًا لِّلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ۖ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلسَّعِيرِ walaqad zayyannas samā-ad dunyā bimaṣābīḥa waja`alnāhā rujūmal lishhayāṭīn ۖ wa-a`tadnā lahum `adhābas sa`īr We have adorned the lowest sky with lamps, and made them missiles against the devils, for whom We have prepared a torment of most intense fire.
6
وَلِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ بِرَبِّهِمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَصِيرُ walilladhīna kafarū birabbihim `adhābu jahannam ۖ wabi-sal maṣīr For those who believe not in their Lord there is the punishment of Hell; and what a wretched destination
7
إِذَآ أُلْقُوا۟ فِيهَا سَمِعُوا۟ لَهَا شَهِيقًا وَهِىَ تَفُورُ idhā ulqū fīhā sami`ū lahā shahīqan wahiya tafūr When they are cast into it, they will hear it roar and raging
8
تَكَادُ تَمَيَّزُ مِنَ ٱلْغَيْظِ ۖ كُلَّمَآ أُلْقِىَ فِيهَا فَوْجٌ سَأَلَهُمْ خَزَنَتُهَآ أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ نَذِيرٌ takādu tamayyazu minal ghayẓ ۖ kullamā ulqiya fīhā fawjun sa-alahum khazanatuhā alam ya-tikum nadhīr As though it would burst with fury. Every time a crowd is thrown into it, its wardens will ask: "Did no warner come to you?"
9
قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ قَدْ جَآءَنَا نَذِيرٌ فَكَذَّبْنَا وَقُلْنَا مَا نَزَّلَ ٱللَّهُ مِن شَىْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ كَبِيرٍ qālū balā qad jā-anā nadhīrun fakadhhabnā waqulnā mā nazzalallāhu min shay-in in antum illā fī ḍalālin kabīr And they will answer: "Surely; a warner came to us, but we denied him, and said: 'God did not send down any thing; you are greatly deluded, in fact.'"
10
وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْ كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ أَوْ نَعْقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِىٓ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ waqālū law kunnā nasma`u aw na`qilu mā kunnā fī aṣ-ḥābis sa`īr They will say: "If we had listened and been wise, we would not have been among the inmates of Hell."
11
فَٱعْتَرَفُوا۟ بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسُحْقًا لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ fa`tarafū bidhanbihim fasuḥqal li-aṣ-ḥābis sa`īr So will they confess their guilt. Deprived (of all joys) will be the inmates of Hell.
12
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُم بِٱلْغَيْبِ لَهُم مَّغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ innal ladhīna yakhshawna rabbahum bil ghaybi lahum maghfiratun wa-ajrun kabīr For those who fear their Lord in secret is forgiveness and a great reward.
13
وَأَسِرُّوا۟ قَوْلَكُمْ أَوِ ٱجْهَرُوا۟ بِهِۦٓ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ عَلِيمٌۢ بِذَاتِ ٱلصُّدُورِ wa-asirrū qawlakum awij-harū bih ۖ innahu `alīmun bidhātiṣ ṣudūr Whether you say a thing secretly or openly, He knows the innermost secrets of your hearts.
14
أَلَا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ خَلَقَ وَهُوَ ٱللَّطِيفُ ٱلْخَبِيرُ alā ya`lamu man khalaqa wahuwallaṭīful khabīr Can He who has created not know (His creation)? He is all-penetrating, all-aware.
15
هُوَ ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ ذَلُولًا فَٱمْشُوا۟ فِى مَنَاكِبِهَا وَكُلُوا۟ مِن رِّزْقِهِۦ ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ ٱلنُّشُورُ huwal ladhī ja`ala lakumul-arḍa dhalūlan famshū fī manākibihā wakulū min rizqih ۖ wa ilayhin nushūr It is He who made the earth subservient to you that you may travel all around it, and eat of things He has provided; and to Him will be your resurrection.
16
ءَأَمِنتُم مَّن فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ أَن يَخْسِفَ بِكُمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ فَإِذَا هِىَ تَمُورُ a-amintum man fis samā-i an yakhsifa bikumul-arḍa fa-idhā hiya tamūr Are you so unafraid that He who is in Heaven will not open up the earth to swallow you, when it will begin to tremble?
17
أَمْ أَمِنتُم مَّن فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ أَن يُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَاصِبًا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ كَيْفَ نَذِيرِ am amintum man fis samā-i an yursila `alaykum ḥāṣibā ۖ fasata`lamūna kayfa nadhīr Or have you become so unafraid that He who is in Heaven will not send a violent wind to shower stones at you? Then you will know the import of My commination!
18
وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ walaqad kadhhabal ladhīna min qablihim fakayfa kāna nakīr Those before them had also denied. And how was My punishment then!
19
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّيْرِ فَوْقَهُمْ صَـٰٓفَّـٰتٍ وَيَقْبِضْنَ ۚ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍۭ بَصِيرٌ awalam yaraw ilaṭ ṭayri fawqahum ṣāffātin wayaqbiḍn ۚ mā yumsikuhunna illar raḥmān ۚ innahu bikulli shay-in baṣīr Do they not see the birds above them flying wings spread out or folded? Nothing holds them aloft but God. All things are within His purview.
20
أَمَّنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى هُوَ جُندٌ لَّكُمْ يَنصُرُكُم مِّن دُونِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۚ إِنِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ إِلَّا فِى غُرُورٍ amman hādhal ladhī huwa jundul lakum yanṣurukum min dūnir raḥmān ۚ inil kāfirūna illā fī ghurūr What other army do you have to help you apart from Ar-Rahman? The unbelievers are surely lost in delusion.
21
أَمَّنْ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى يَرْزُقُكُمْ إِنْ أَمْسَكَ رِزْقَهُۥ ۚ بَل لَّجُّوا۟ فِى عُتُوٍّ وَنُفُورٍ amman hādhal ladhī yarzuqukum in amsaka rizqah ۚ bal lajjū fī `utuwwin wanufūr Who is there to give you food in case He withholds His bounty? Yet they persist in rebellion and aversion.
22
أَفَمَن يَمْشِى مُكِبًّا عَلَىٰ وَجْهِهِۦٓ أَهْدَىٰٓ أَمَّن يَمْشِى سَوِيًّا عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ afaman yamshī mukibban `alā wajhihi ahdā amman yamshī sawiyyan `alā ṣirāṭin mustaqīm Will he find the way who grovels flat on his face, or he who walks straight on the right path?
23
قُلْ هُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَكُمْ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۖ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ qul huwal ladhī ansha-akum waja`ala lakumus sam`a wal-abṣāra wal-af-idah ۖ qalīlan mā tashkurūn Say: "It is He who raised you and gave you ears and eyes and hearts. How little are the thanks you offer!"
24
قُلْ هُوَ ٱلَّذِى ذَرَأَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ qul huwal ladhī dhara-akum fil-arḍi wa ilayhi tuḥsharūn Say: "It is He who dispersed you all over the earth, and to Him you will be gathered."
25
وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَـٰذَا ٱلْوَعْدُ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ wayaqūlūna matā hādhal wa`du in kuntum ṣādiqīn But they say: "When will this promise come to pass, if what you say is true?"
26
قُلْ إِنَّمَا ٱلْعِلْمُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ وَإِنَّمَآ أَنَا۠ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ qul innamal `il-mu `indallāhi wa innamā ana nadhīrun mubīn Say: "God alone has knowledge. My duty is only to warn you clearly."
27
فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ زُلْفَةً سِيٓـَٔتْ وُجُوهُ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَقِيلَ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَدَّعُونَ falammā ra-awhu zulfatan sī-at wujūhul ladhīna kafarū waqīla hādhal ladhī kuntum bihi tadda`ūn When they realise it has come upon them, distraught will be the faces of unbelievers. They will be told: "This is what you asked for."
28
قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَهْلَكَنِىَ ٱللَّهُ وَمَن مَّعِىَ أَوْ رَحِمَنَا فَمَن يُجِيرُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ qul ara aytum in ahlakaniyallāhu wa man ma`iya aw raḥimanā faman yujīrul kāfirīna min `adhābin alīm Say: "Just think: If God destroys me and those with me, or is benevolent to us, who will then protect the unbelievers from a painful doom?"
29
قُلْ هُوَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ وَعَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ هُوَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ qul huwar raḥmānu āmannā bihi wa`alayhi tawakkalnā ۖ fasata`lamūna man huwa fī ḍalālin mubīn Say: "He is the benevolent; in Him do we believe, and in Him do we place our trust. You will now realise who is in manifest error."
30
قُلْ أَرَءَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَصْبَحَ مَآؤُكُمْ غَوْرًا فَمَن يَأْتِيكُم بِمَآءٍ مَّعِينٍۭ qul ara aytum in aṣbaḥa mā-ukum ghawran faman ya-tīkum bimā-in ma`īn Say: "Just think: If your water were to dry up in the morning who will bring you water from a fresh, flowing stream?"
