بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.
1
إِذَا جَآءَكَ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقُونَ قَالُوا۟ نَشْهَدُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ إِنَّكَ لَرَسُولُهُۥ وَٱللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ idhā jā-akal munāfiqūna qālū nash-hadu innaka larasūlullāh ۗ wallāhu ya`lamu innaka larasūluhu wallāhu yash-hadu innal munāfiqīna lakādhibūn WHEN THE HYPOCRITES come to you, they say: "We affirm that you are the Apostle of God." God indeed knows you are His Apostle. God bears witness that the hypocrites are indeed liars.
2
ٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟ أَيْمَـٰنَهُمْ جُنَّةً فَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ سَآءَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ ittakhadhū aymānahum junnatan faṣaddū `an sabīlillāh ۚ innahum sā-a mā kānū ya`malūn They have made their oaths a shield in order to obstruct others from the way of God. It is certainly evil what they do.
3
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ ءَامَنُوا۟ ثُمَّ كَفَرُوا۟ فَطُبِعَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ فَهُمْ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ dhālika bi-annahum āmanū thumma kafarū faṭubi`a `alā qulūbihim fahum lā yafqahūn That is because they came to believe, and then renounced (their faith). So their hearts were sealed; and now they do not understand.
4
وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ تُعْجِبُكَ أَجْسَامُهُمْ ۖ وَإِن يَقُولُوا۟ تَسْمَعْ لِقَوْلِهِمْ ۖ كَأَنَّهُمْ خُشُبٌ مُّسَنَّدَةٌ ۖ يَحْسَبُونَ كُلَّ صَيْحَةٍ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ هُمُ ٱلْعَدُوُّ فَٱحْذَرْهُمْ ۚ قَـٰتَلَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ ۖ أَنَّىٰ يُؤْفَكُونَ wa idhā ra-aytahum tu`jibuka ajsāmuhum ۖ wa in yaqūlū tasma` liqawlihim ۖ ka-annahum khushubun musannadah ۖ yaḥsabūna kulla ṣayḥatin `alayhim ۚ humul `aduwwu faḥdharhum ۚ qātalahumullāh ۖ annā yu-fakūn Pleasing seem their persons when you look at them; and when they talk, you listen to their speech. Yet they are like the wooden panelling of a wall. They imagine every rebuke to be directed against them. They are the enemies, beware of them. May God damn them, how pervert are they!
5
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا۟ يَسْتَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ لَوَّوْا۟ رُءُوسَهُمْ وَرَأَيْتَهُمْ يَصُدُّونَ وَهُم مُّسْتَكْبِرُونَ wa idhā qīla lahum ta`ālaw yastaghfir lakum rasūlullāhi lawwaw ru-ūsahum wara-aytahum yaṣuddūna wahum mustakbirūn When you tell them: "Come, let the Apostle of God ask forgiveness for you," they turn their heads, and you see them turning away with arrogance.
6
سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْهِمْ أَسْتَغْفَرْتَ لَهُمْ أَمْ لَمْ تَسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ لَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْفَـٰسِقِينَ sawā-un `alayhim astaghfarta lahum am lam tastaghfir lahum lan yaghfirallāhu lahum ۚ innallāha lā yahdil qawmal fāsiqīn Whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask, it is all the same; God will not forgive them. Surely God does not show a disobedient people the way.
7
هُمُ ٱلَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ لَا تُنفِقُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَنْ عِندَ رَسُولِ ٱللَّهِ حَتَّىٰ يَنفَضُّوا۟ ۗ وَلِلَّهِ خَزَآئِنُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ لَا يَفْقَهُونَ humul ladhīna yaqūlūna lā tunfiqū `alā man `inda rasūlillāhi ḥattā yanfaḍḍū ۗ walillāhi khazā-inus samāwāti wal-arḍi walākinnal munāfiqīna lā yafqahūn They are the ones who say: "Do not spend on those who are with the Apostle of God till they break away (from him)." To God belong the treasures of the heavens and the earth; but the hypocrites do not understand.
8
يَقُولُونَ لَئِن رَّجَعْنَآ إِلَى ٱلْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ ٱلْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا ٱلْأَذَلَّ ۚ وَلِلَّهِ ٱلْعِزَّةُ وَلِرَسُولِهِۦ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱلْمُنَـٰفِقِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ yaqūlūna la-in raja`nā ilal-madīnati layukhrijannal-a`azzu minhal-adhall ۚ walillāhil `izzatu walirasūlihi walil-mu-minīna walākinnal munāfiqīna lā ya`lamūn They say: "If we now go back to Madina, the stronger will turn the weaker out." But power belongs to God, His Apostle and the faithful, though the hypocrites do not know.
9
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تُلْهِكُمْ أَمْوَٰلُكُمْ وَلَآ أَوْلَـٰدُكُمْ عَن ذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ وَمَن يَفْعَلْ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ yā-ayyuhal ladhīna āmanū lā tulhikum amwālukum walā awlādukum `an dhikrillāh ۚ wa man yaf`al dhālika fa-ulā-ika humul khāsirūn O you who believe, let not your wealth and children make you negligent of the remembrance of God. Those who do so will be losers.
10
وَأَنفِقُوا۟ مِن مَّا رَزَقْنَـٰكُم مِّن قَبْلِ أَن يَأْتِىَ أَحَدَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتُ فَيَقُولَ رَبِّ لَوْلَآ أَخَّرْتَنِىٓ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ قَرِيبٍ فَأَصَّدَّقَ وَأَكُن مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ wa-anfiqū min mā razaqnākum min qabli an ya-tiya aḥadakumul mawtu fayaqūla rabbi lawlā akhhartanī ilā ajalin qarībin fa-aṣṣaddaqa wa-akun minaṣ ṣāliḥīn Spend of what We have given you before death comes to one of you, when he will say: "O Lord, why did you not defer my term for a while that I could give alms and be among the doers of good?"
11
وَلَن يُؤَخِّرَ ٱللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهَا ۚ وَٱللَّهُ خَبِيرٌۢ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ walan yu-akhhirallāhu nafsan idhā jā-a ajaluhā ۚ wallāhu khabīrun bimā ta`malūn But God does not grant a soul respite once its term has come to end. And God is aware of what you do.
