بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.
1
ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ iqtarabatis sā`atu wanshaqqal qamar THE HOUR HAS come and split is the moon.
2
وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ wa in yaraw āyatan yu`riḍū wayaqūlū siḥrun mustamirr But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing,"
3
وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ ۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ wakadhhabū wattaba`ū ahwā-ahum ۚ wakullu amrin mustaqirr And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time.
4
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ walaqad jā-ahum minal-anbā-i mā fīhi muzdajar Messages deterring them from evil had come to them,
5
حِكْمَةٌۢ بَـٰلِغَةٌ ۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ ḥikmatun bālighah ۖ famā tughnin nudhur Containing consummate wisdom; yet warnings were of no avail.
6
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ ۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍ نُّكُرٍ fatawalla `anhum ۘ yawma yad`ud dā`i ilā shay-in nukur So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business,
7
خُشَّعًا أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُّنتَشِرٌ khushha`an abṣāruhum yakhrujūna minal-ajdāthi ka-annahum jarādun muntashir They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts.
8
مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِ ۖ يَقُولُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ muhṭi`īna ilad dā` ۖ yaqūlul kāfirūna hādhā yawmun `asir They will hasten forward to the caller, gazes fixed. And the unbelievers will say: "This is the day of untold woe."
9
كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجْنُونٌ وَٱزْدُجِرَ kadhhabat qablahum qawmu nūḥin fakadhhabū `abdanā waqālū majnūnun wazdujir The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him.
10
فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌ فَٱنتَصِرْ fada`ā rabbahu annī maghlūbun fantaṣir So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me."
11
فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٍ مُّنْهَمِرٍ fafataḥnā abwābas samā-i bimā-in munhamir And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents,
12
وَفَجَّرْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَٱلْتَقَى ٱلْمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ wafajjarnal-arḍa `uyūnan fal taqal mā-u `alā amrin qad qudir And We opened up the springs of the earth; and the waters met for a decreed end.
13
وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَٰحٍ وَدُسُرٍ waḥamalnāhu `alā dhāti alwāḥin wadusur But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum,
14
تَجْرِى بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَآءً لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ tajrī bi-a`yuninā jazā-an liman kāna kufir Which sailed right under Our eyes: A recompense for him who had been denied.
15
وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَـٰهَآ ءَايَةً فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ walaqad taraknāhā āyatan fahal min muddakir And We left it as a sign. Is there anyone who will be warned?
16
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ fakayfa kāna `adhābī wanudhur How was then My punishment and My commination!
17
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ walaqad yassarnal qur-āna lidhhikri fahal min muddakir Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned?
18
كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ kadhhabat `ādun fakayfa kāna `adhābī wanudhur The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination!
19
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُّسْتَمِرٍّ innā arsalnā `alayhim rīḥan ṣarṣaran fī yawmi naḥsin mustamirr We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous,
20
تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُّنقَعِرٍ tanzi`un nāsa ka-annahum a`jāzu nakhlin munqa`ir Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots.
21
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ fakayfa kāna `adhābī wanudhur How was then My punishment and My commination!
22
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ walaqad yassarnal qur-āna lidhhikri fahal min muddakir Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will pay heed?
23
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ kadhhabat thamūdu bin nudhur The Thamud rejected the warnings,
24
فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرًا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدًا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ faqālū abasharan minnā wāḥidan nattabi`uhu innā idhal lafī ḍalālin wasu`ur And said: "Should we follow only one man among us? In that case we shall he in error and insane.
25
أَءُلْقِىَ ٱلذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ a-ulqiyadh dhikru `alayhi min bayninā bal huwa kadhhābun ashir Was he the one of all of us to have been given the exposition? He is surely an impudent liar."
26
سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَّنِ ٱلْكَذَّابُ ٱلْأَشِرُ saya`lamūna ghadan manil kadhhābul-ashir "Tomorrow they will know who is the impudent liar!
27
إِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَّهُمْ فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ وَٱصْطَبِرْ innā mursilun nāqati fitnatan lahum fartaqibhum waṣṭabir We shall send the she-camel to try them. So watch them, and be constant.
28
وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ ٱلْمَآءَ قِسْمَةٌۢ بَيْنَهُمْ ۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُّحْتَضَرٌ wanabbi-hum annal mā-a qismatun baynahum ۖ kullu shirbin muḥtaḍar Tell them that the water is to be apportioned between them (and her); and every turn of drinking will be fixed (for each)."
29
فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ fanādaw ṣāḥibahum fata`āṭā fa`aqar But they called their commander, who seized and hamstrung her.
30
فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ fakayfa kāna `adhābī wanudhur How was then My punishment of which they had been warned?
31
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ innā arsalnā `alayhim ṣayḥatan wāḥidatan fakānū kahashīmil muḥtaẓir We sent a single blast against them, and they were reduced to husks of a decayed fence.
32
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ walaqad yassarnal qur-āna lidhhikri fahal min muddakir Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned?
33
كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ kadhhabat qawmu lūṭin bin nudhur The people of Lot rejected the warnings.
34
إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ۖ نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرٍ innā arsalnā `alayhim ḥāṣiban illā āla lūṭ ۖ najjaynāhum bisaḥar We sent a stone-hurtling storm against them, except the family of Lot whom We saved in the early hours of the morning
35
نِّعْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَن شَكَرَ ni`matan min `indinā ۚ kadhālika najzī man shakar As a favour from Us. That is how We reward the grateful.
36
وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ walaqad andharahum baṭshatanā fatamāraw bin nudhur He had warned them of Our might, but they passed over the warnings.
37
وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِۦ فَطَمَسْنَآ أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ walaqad rāwadūhu `an ḍayfihi faṭamasnā a`yunahum fadhūqū `adhābī wanudhur They lusted after his guests, so We put out their eyes (and said): "Taste My punishment and My commination."
38
وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ walaqad ṣabbaḥahum bukratan `adhābun mustaqirr And early in the morning the decreed punishment came upon them.
39
فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ fadhūqū `adhābī wanudhur So now taste My punishment and My commination!
40
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ walaqad yassarnal qur-āna lidhhikri fahal min muddakir Easy have We made the Qur'an to understand: So is there any one who will be warned?
41
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ walaqad jā-a āla fir`awnan nudhur The warnings came to the people of Pharaoh.
42
كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ kadhhabū bi-āyātinā kullihā fa-akhadhnāhum akhdha `azīzin muqtadir They rejected each one of Our signs. So We seized them with the grip of one mighty and powerful.
43
أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٌ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ akuffārukum khayrun min ulā-ikum am lakum barā-atun fiz zubur Are the unbelievers among you any better than they? Or is there immunity for you in the Scriptures?
44
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُّنتَصِرٌ am yaqūlūna naḥnu jamī`un muntaṣir Or do they say: "We are a well-accoutred army?"
45
سَيُهْزَمُ ٱلْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ sayuhzamul jam`u wayuwallūnad dubur The army will be routed and put to flight.
46
بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ balis sā`atu maw`iduhum was sā`atu ad-hā wa-amarr Surely the Hour will be the moment of their promise, and that moment will be calamitous and distressing.
47
إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ innal mujrimīna fī ḍalālin wasu`ur Surely the sinners are misguided and insane.
48
يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ yawma yus-ḥabūna fin nāri `alā wujūhihim dhūqū massa saqar On that Day they will be dragged into the fire faces foremost, (and told:) "Taste the feel of Hell."
49
إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ بِقَدَرٍ innā kulla shay-in khalaqnāhu biqadar We have indeed created all things by measure;
50
وَمَآ أَمْرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍۭ بِٱلْبَصَرِ wa mā amrunā illā wāḥidatun kalamḥin bil baṣar And Our command is but one (word) swift as the winking of an eye.
51
وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ walaqad ahlaknā ashyā`akum fahal min muddakir We have destroyed the likes of you in the past: So is there any one who will be warned?
52
وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ wakullu shay-in fa`alūhu fiz zubur All things they do are (recorded) in the books;
53
وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍ وَكَبِيرٍ مُّسْتَطَرٌ wakullu ṣaghīrin wakabīrin mustaṭar All things small or great have been written down.
54
إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَنَهَرٍ innal muttaqīna fī jannātin wanahar Surely those who fear God and follow the straight path will be amidst gardens and light,
55
فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ fī maq`adi ṣidqin `inda malīkin muqtadir At the still centre in the proximity of the King all-powerful.
