بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.
1
وَٱلصَّـٰٓفَّـٰتِ صَفًّا waṣ ṣāffāti ṣaffā I CALL TO witness those who stand arrayed in rows,
2
فَٱلزَّٰجِرَٰتِ زَجْرًا faz zājirāti zajrā And those who restrain by reprimanding,
3
فَٱلتَّـٰلِيَـٰتِ ذِكْرًا fat tāliyāti dhikrā And those who recite the Reminder,
4
إِنَّ إِلَـٰهَكُمْ لَوَٰحِدٌ inna ilāhakum lawāḥid Verily your God is One,
5
رَّبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ ٱلْمَشَـٰرِقِ rabbus samāwāti wal-arḍi wa mā baynahumā warabbul mashāriq The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, and the Lord of the Easts.
6
إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ ٱلْكَوَاكِبِ innā zayyannas samā-ad dunyā bizīnatinil-kawākib He decked the nearest heavens with ornaments of stars,
7
وَحِفْظًا مِّن كُلِّ شَيْطَـٰنٍ مَّارِدٍ waḥifẓan min kulli shayṭānin mārid Protecting them against every wayward devil,
8
لَّا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْمَلَإِ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِن كُلِّ جَانِبٍ lā yassamma`ūna ilal-mala-il-a`lā wayuqdhafūna min kulli jānib So that they are not able to listen to the angels of higher (echelons), and are pelted from all sides
9
دُحُورًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ duḥūrā ۖ walahum `adhābun wāṣib And kept far away. There is perpetual punishment for them,
10
إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ ٱلْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ illā man khaṭifal khaṭfata fa-atba`ahu shihābun thāqib Except those who eavesdrop and are pursued by a shooting flame.
11
فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَم مَّنْ خَلَقْنَآ ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰهُم مِّن طِينٍ لَّازِبٍۭ fastaftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan am man khalaqnā ۚ innā khalaqnāhum min ṭīnin lāzib So ask them if they are more difficult to create, or the rest We have created? Indeed (man) We created from fermented clay.
12
بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ bal `ajibta wayaskharūn Yet while you are filled with wonder, they just scoff;
13
وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا۟ لَا يَذْكُرُونَ wa idhā dhukkirū lā yadhkurūn And when they are warned they pay no heed.
14
وَإِذَا رَأَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ wa idhā ra-aw āyatan yastaskhirūn When they see a sign, they laugh at it,
15
وَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُّبِينٌ waqālū in hādhā illā siḥrun mubīn And say: "This is only magic.
16
أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ a-idhā mitnā wakunnā turāban wa`iẓāman a-innā lamab`ūthūn When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, how can we be raised again,
17
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ awa-ābā-unal-awwalūn And our fathers too?"
18
قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنتُمْ دَٰخِرُونَ qul na`am wa-antum dākhirūn You say: "Yes; and you will be lowly made."
19
فَإِنَّمَا هِىَ زَجْرَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنظُرُونَ fa-innamā hiya zajratun wāḥidatun fa-idhā hum yanẓurūn There will only be a single jerk, and they will gape,
20
وَقَالُوا۟ يَـٰوَيْلَنَا هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ waqālū yāwaylanā hādhā yawmud dīn And say: "Ah woe! This is the Day of Reckoning."
21
هَـٰذَا يَوْمُ ٱلْفَصْلِ ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ hādhā yawmul faṣlil ladhī kuntum bihi tukadhhibūn "(Yes,) this is the Day of Judgement you had called a lie."
22
ٱحْشُرُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ وَأَزْوَٰجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْبُدُونَ uḥ-shurul ladhīna ẓalamū wa-azwājahum wa mā kānū ya`budūn Gather all the wicked together and their comrades, and those they had worshipped
23
مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَٱهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ min dūnillāhi fahdūhum ilā ṣirāṭil jaḥīm Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell,
24
وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُم مَّسْـُٔولُونَ waqifūhum ۖ innahum mas-ūlūn And detain them, for they will be questioned."
25
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ mā lakum lā tanāṣarūn "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?"
26
بَلْ هُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ bal humul yawma mustaslimūn They will submit to questioning then,
27
وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ wa-aqbala ba`ḍuhum `alā ba`ḍiy yatasā-alūn And some of them will confront the others,
28
قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّكُمْ كُنتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ qālū innakum kuntum ta-tūnanā `anil yamīn Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us."
29
قَالُوا۟ بَل لَّمْ تَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ qālū bal lam takūnū mu-minīn They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe.
30
وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُم مِّن سُلْطَـٰنٍۭ ۖ بَلْ كُنتُمْ قَوْمًا طَـٰغِينَ wa mā kāna lanā `alaykum min sulṭān ۖ bal kuntum qawman ṭāghīn We had no power over you. In fact, you were a people rebellious.
31
فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَآ ۖ إِنَّا لَذَآئِقُونَ faḥaqqa `alaynā qawlu rabbinā ۖ innā ladhā-iqūn The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment),
32
فَأَغْوَيْنَـٰكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَـٰوِينَ fa-aghwaynākum innā kunnā ghāwyn For we had led you astray. In fact we ourselves were astray."
33
فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ fa-innahum yawma-idhin fil `adhābi mushtarikūn So, they will become partners in punishment.
34
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ innā kadhālika naf`alu bil mujrimīn That is how We deal with sinners.
35
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوٓا۟ إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ innahum kānū idhā qīla lahum lā ilāha illallāhu yastakbirūn They were those who, when it was said to them, "There is no god but God," behaved with insolence,
36
وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُوٓا۟ ءَالِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَّجْنُونٍۭ wayaqūlūna a-innā latārikū ālihatinā lishā`irin majnūn And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?"
37
بَلْ جَآءَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ bal jā-a bil ḥaqqi waṣaddaqal mursalīn Not in the least. He has brought the truth and confirmed the other messengers.
38
إِنَّكُمْ لَذَآئِقُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْأَلِيمِ innakum ladhā-iqul `adhābil-alīm You will indeed taste a painful punishment,
39
وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ wa mā tujzawna illā mā kuntum ta`malūn And be rewarded but only for what you had done,
40
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ illā `ibādallāhil mukhlaṣīn Except the chosen creatures of God,
فَوَٰكِهُ ۖ وَهُم مُّكْرَمُونَ fawākih ۖ wahum mukramūn Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured
43
فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ fī jannātin na`īm In gardens of delight,
44
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ `alā sururin mutaqābilīn (Sitting) on couches, face to face,
45
يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِم بِكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍۭ yuṭāfu `alayhim bika-sin min ma`īn With cups from a flowing stream being passed around,
46
بَيْضَآءَ لَذَّةٍ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ bayḍā-a ladhhatin lishhāribīn Clear, delicious to drink,
47
لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنزَفُونَ lā fīhā ghawlun walā hum `anhā yunzafūn Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating,
48
وَعِندَهُمْ قَـٰصِرَٰتُ ٱلطَّرْفِ عِينٌ wa`indahum qāṣirātuṭ ṭarfi `īn And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes,
49
كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَّكْنُونٌ ka-annahunna bayḍun maknūn Like sheltered eggs in a nest.
50
فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ fa-aqbala ba`ḍuhum `alā ba`ḍiy yatasā-alūn Then one turned to the other in an enquiry.
51
قَالَ قَآئِلٌ مِّنْهُمْ إِنِّى كَانَ لِى قَرِينٌ qāla qā-ilun minhum innī kāna lī qarīn Said one of the speakers: "I had a friend
52
يَقُولُ أَءِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُصَدِّقِينَ yaqūlu a-innaka laminal muṣaddiqīn Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth?
53
أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ a-idhā mitnā wakunnā turāban wa`iẓāman a-innā lamadīnūn (Do you think) we would be paid back our due when we are dead and reduced to dust and bones?'
54
قَالَ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّطَّلِعُونَ qāla hal antum muṭṭali`ūn He said: 'Will you look down?'
55
فَٱطَّلَعَ فَرَءَاهُ فِى سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ faṭṭala`a fara-āhu fī sawā-il jaḥīm He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell.
56
قَالَ تَٱللَّهِ إِن كِدتَّ لَتُرْدِينِ qāla tallāhi in kidta laturdīn 'By God', he said, 'you had almost ruined me.
57
وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّى لَكُنتُ مِنَ ٱلْمُحْضَرِينَ walawlā ni`matu rabbī lakuntu minal muḥḍarīn Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell).
58
أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ afamā naḥnu bimayyitīn (Another will say:)"Is it true, we are not going to die
59
إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ illā mawtatanal-ūlā wa mā naḥnu bimu`adhhabīn Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished?
60
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ inna hādhā lahuwal fawzul `aẓīm This will indeed be great happiness.
61
لِمِثْلِ هَـٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ ٱلْعَـٰمِلُونَ limithli hādhā falya`malil `āmilūn For this the toilers should strive."
62
أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُّزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ ٱلزَّقُّومِ adhālika khayrun nuzulan am shajaratuz zaqqūm Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum
63
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَـٰهَا فِتْنَةً لِّلظَّـٰلِمِينَ innā ja`alnāhā fitnatan liẓẓālimīn Which We have reserved as punishment for evil-doers?
64
إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِىٓ أَصْلِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ innahā shajaratun takhruju fī aṣlil jaḥīm It is a tree that grows at the bottom of Hell.
65
طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُۥ رُءُوسُ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينِ ṭal`uhā ka-annahu ru-ūsush shayāṭīn Its spathes are like the prickly pear.
66
فَإِنَّهُمْ لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ fa-innahum la-ākilūna minhā famāli-ūna minhal buṭūn They will eat and fill their bellies with it,
67
ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًا مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ thumma inna lahum `alayhā lashawban min ḥamīm Washing it down with boiling water.
68
ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى ٱلْجَحِيمِ thumma inna marji`ahum la-ilal-jaḥīm Then to Hell they will surely be returned.
69
إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا۟ ءَابَآءَهُمْ ضَآلِّينَ innahum alfaw ābā-ahum ḍāllīn They had found their fathers astray,
70
فَهُمْ عَلَىٰٓ ءَاثَـٰرِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ fahum `alā āthārihim yuhra`ūn Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps.
71
وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ walaqad ḍalla qablahum aktharul-awwalīn So had many an earlier people gone astray,
72
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِم مُّنذِرِينَ walaqad arsalnā fīhim mundhirīn And We had sent admonishers to them.
73
فَٱنظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ fanẓur kayfa kāna `āqibatul mundharīn Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned,
74
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ illā `ibādallāhil mukhlaṣīn Other than the chosen creatures of God.
75
وَلَقَدْ نَادَىٰنَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ ٱلْمُجِيبُونَ walaqad nādānā nūḥun falani`mal mujībūn Noah had verily called to Us. And how gracious was He who answered (him).
76
وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥ مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ wanajjaynāhu wa-ahlahu minal karbil `aẓīm We saved him and his family from the great affliction,
77
وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُۥ هُمُ ٱلْبَاقِينَ waja`alnā dhurriyyatahu humul bāqīn And made his progeny survive,
78
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ wataraknā `alayhi fil-ākhirīn And left (his name) for posterity.
79
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍ فِى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ salāmun `alā nūḥin fil `ālamīn Peace on Noah among all men.
80
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ innā kadhālika najzil muḥsinīn That is how We reward those who do good.
81
إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ innahu min `ibādinal mu-minīn Surely he was among Our faithful creatures.
82
ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ thumma aghraqnal-ākharīn Afterwards We drowned the others.
83
وَإِنَّ مِن شِيعَتِهِۦ لَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ wa inna min shī`atihi la-ibrāhīm And Abraham indeed was of his inducement,
84
إِذْ جَآءَ رَبَّهُۥ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ idh jā-a rabbahu biqalbin salīm When he came to his Lord with a heart compliant,
85
إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَ idh qāla li-abīhi waqawmihi mādhā ta`budūn When he said to his father and his people: "What is this you worship?
86
أَئِفْكًا ءَالِهَةً دُونَ ٱللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ a-ifkan ālihatan dūnallāhi turīdūn Why do you solicit false gods instead of God?
87
فَمَا ظَنُّكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ famā ẓannukum birabbil `ālamīn What do you imagine the Lord of the worlds to be?"
88
فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِى ٱلنُّجُومِ fanaẓara naẓratan fin nujūm Then he looked up at the stars (they worshipped),
89
فَقَالَ إِنِّى سَقِيمٌ faqāla innī saqīm And said: "I am sick (of what you worship)!"
90
فَتَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَ fatawallaw `anhu mudbirīn But they turned their backs on him and went away.
91
فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ ءَالِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ farāgha ilā ālihatihim faqāla alā ta-kulūn Then he turned towards their gods and said: "Why do you not eat (of these offerings)?
92
مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنطِقُونَ mā lakum lā tanṭiqūn What is wrong with you that you do not speak?"
93
فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًۢا بِٱلْيَمِينِ farāgha `alayhim ḍarban bil yamīn Then he started striking them down with his right hand.
94
فَأَقْبَلُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ fa-aqbalū ilayhi yaziffūn So the people descended upon him.
95
قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ qāla ata`budūna mā tanḥitūn "Why do you worship these you carve yourselves," he asked,
96
وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ wallāhu khalaqakum wa mā ta`malūn "When God has created you and what you make?"
97
قَالُوا۟ ٱبْنُوا۟ لَهُۥ بُنْيَـٰنًا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِى ٱلْجَحِيمِ qālub-nū lahu bunyānan fa-alqūhu fil jaḥīm "Build a pyre for him and throw him into the raging fire."
98
فَأَرَادُوا۟ بِهِۦ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمُ ٱلْأَسْفَلِينَ fa-arādū bihi kaydan faja`alnāhumul-asfalīn So they contrived a plot against him, but We made them abject.
99
وَقَالَ إِنِّى ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّى سَيَهْدِينِ waqāla innī dhāhibun ilā rabbī sayahdīn And he said: "I am going away to my Lord who will show me the way.
100
رَبِّ هَبْ لِى مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ rabbi hab lī minaṣ ṣāliḥīn (And he prayed:) "O Lord, grant me a righteous son."
101
فَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ حَلِيمٍ fabashharnāhu bighulāmin ḥalīm So We gave him the good news of a clement son.
102
فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ ٱلسَّعْىَ قَالَ يَـٰبُنَىَّ إِنِّىٓ أَرَىٰ فِى ٱلْمَنَامِ أَنِّىٓ أَذْبَحُكَ فَٱنظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ ۚ قَالَ يَـٰٓأَبَتِ ٱفْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ ۖ سَتَجِدُنِىٓ إِن شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَ falammā balagha ma`ahus sa`ya qāla yābunayya innī arā fil manāmi annī adhbaḥuka fanẓur mādhā tarā ۚ qāla yā-abatif-`al mā tu-mar ۖ satajidunī in shā-allāhu minaṣ ṣābirīn When he was old enough to go about with him, he said: "O my son, I dreamt that I was sacrificing you. Consider, what you think?" He replied: "Father, do as you are commanded. If God pleases you will find me firm."
103
فَلَمَّآ أَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُۥ لِلْجَبِينِ falammā aslamā watallahu liljabīn When they submitted to the will of God, and (Abraham) laid (his son) down prostrate on his temple,
104
وَنَـٰدَيْنَـٰهُ أَن يَـٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ wanādaynāhu an yā-ibrāhīm We called out: "O Abraham,
105
قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ ٱلرُّءْيَآ ۚ إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ qad ṣaddaqtar ru-yā ۚ innā kadhālika najzil muḥsinīn You have fulfilled your dream." Thus do We reward the good.
106
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْبَلَـٰٓؤُا۟ ٱلْمُبِينُ inna hādhā lahuwal balā-ul mubīn That was indeed a trying test.
107
وَفَدَيْنَـٰهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيمٍ wafadaynāhu bidhibḥin `aẓīm So We ransomed him for a great sacrifice,
108
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ wataraknā `alayhi fil-ākhirīn And left (his hallowed memory) for posterity.
109
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ salāmun `alā ibrāhīm Peace be on Abraham.
110
كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ kadhālika najzil muḥsinīn That is how We reward those who do good.
111
إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ innahu min `ibādinal mu-minīn He is truly among Our faithful creatures.
112
وَبَشَّرْنَـٰهُ بِإِسْحَـٰقَ نَبِيًّا مِّنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ wabashharnāhu bi-is-ḥāqa nabiyyan minaṣ ṣāliḥīn So We gave him the good news of Isaac, apostle, who is among the righteous.
113
وَبَـٰرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰٓ إِسْحَـٰقَ ۚ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌ وَظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهِۦ مُبِينٌ wabāraknā `alayhi wa`alā is-ḥāq ۚ wa min dhurriyyatihimā muḥsinun waẓālimul linafsihi mubīn And We blessed him and Isaac. Among their descendants are some who do good, but some who wrong themselves.
114
وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ walaqad manannā `alā mūsā wahārūn We were indeed gracious to Moses and Aaron,
115
وَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ ٱلْكَرْبِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ wanajjaynāhumā waqawmahumā minal karbil `aẓīm And saved them and their people from great distress,
116
وَنَصَرْنَـٰهُمْ فَكَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ wanaṣarnāhum fakānū humul ghālibīn And helped them, so they were victorious.
117
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ ٱلْمُسْتَبِينَ wa-ātaynāhumal kitābal mustabīn We gave them the explicit Book,
118
وَهَدَيْنَـٰهُمَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمَ wahadaynāhumaṣ ṣirāṭal mustaqīm And showed them the straight path,
119
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ wataraknā `alayhimā fil-ākhirīn And left (their remembrance) for posterity.
120
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ salāmun `alā mūsā wahārūn Peace be on Moses and Aaron.
121
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ innā kadhālika najzil muḥsinīn That is how We reward those who do good.
122
إِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ innahumā min `ibādinal mu-minīn They are among Our faithful devotees.
123
وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ wa inna ilyāsa laminal mursalīn Verily Elias is one of the apostles.
124
إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِۦٓ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ idh qāla liqawmihi alā tattaqūn When he said to his people: "Will you not be mindful of God?
125
أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ atad`ūna ba`lan watadharūna aḥsanal khāliqīn Would you call on Baal and leave the best of creators,
126
ٱللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ allāha rabbakum warabba ābā-ikumul-awwalīn God, your Lord, and the Lord of your fathers?"
127
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ fakadhhabūhu fa-innahum lamuḥḍarūn They denied him, and will surely be brought to punishment,
128
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ illā `ibādallāhil mukhlaṣīn Except the chosen creatures of God.
129
وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ wataraknā `alayhi fil-ākhirīn And We left his (memory) for posterity.
130
سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَىٰٓ إِلْ يَاسِينَ salāmun `alā il yāsīn Peace be on Elias.
131
إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ innā kadhālika najzil muḥsinīn That is how We reward those who do good.
132
إِنَّهُۥ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ innahu min `ibādinal mu-minīn He is truly among Our faithful devotees.
133
وَإِنَّ لُوطًا لَّمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ wa inna lūṭal laminal mursalīn Verily Lot was one of the apostles,
134
إِذْ نَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ idh najjaynāhu wa-ahlahu ajma`īn Wherefore We saved him and his entire family
135
إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِى ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ illā `ajūzan fil ghābirīn Except an old woman who was one of those who stayed behind.
136
ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ thumma dammarnal-ākharīn Then We destroyed the others.
137
وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِم مُّصْبِحِينَ wa innakum latamurrūna `alayhim muṣbiḥīn You pass by (their habitations) in the morning
138
وَبِٱلَّيْلِ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ wabil layl ۗ afalā ta`qilūn Or at night. Then how is it you do not understand?
139
وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ wa inna yūnusa laminal mursalīn Verily Jonah is one of the apostles.
140
إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ idh abaqa ilal-fulkil mashḥūn When he fled on the laden ship,
141
فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُدْحَضِينَ fasāhama fakāna minal mud-ḥaḍīn And lots were cast (when a storm overtook them), he was rejected, (and thrown overboard).
142
فَٱلْتَقَمَهُ ٱلْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ fal taqamahul ḥūtu wahuwa mulīm Then he was swallowed by a large fish as he was worthy of blame.
143
فَلَوْلَآ أَنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَبِّحِينَ falawlā annahu kāna minal musabbiḥīn Had he not been one of those who struggled hard,
144
لَلَبِثَ فِى بَطْنِهِۦٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ lalabitha fī baṭnihi ilā yawmi yub`athūn He would have stayed in its belly till the day the dead are raised.
145
فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُ بِٱلْعَرَآءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌ fanabadhnāhu bil `arā-i wahuwa saqīm So We cast him, sick, on a barren shore,
146
وَأَنۢبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِّن يَقْطِينٍ wa-anbatnā `alayhi shajaratan min yaqṭīn And We made a gourd tree grow over him.
147
وَأَرْسَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ مِا۟ئَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ wa-arsalnāhu ilā mī-ati alfin aw yazīdūn We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more,
148
فَـَٔامَنُوا۟ فَمَتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ fa-āmanū famatta`nāhum ilā ḥīn And they came to believe; so We allowed them to enjoy the good things of life for an age.
149
فَٱسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَلِرَبِّكَ ٱلْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ ٱلْبَنُونَ fastaftihim alirabbikal banātu walahumul banūn Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons?
150
أَمْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ إِنَـٰثًا وَهُمْ شَـٰهِدُونَ am khalaqnal malā-ikata ināthan wahum shāhidūn Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it?
151
أَلَآ إِنَّهُم مِّنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ alā innahum min ifkihim layaqūlūn Is it not a lie invented by them when they say:
152
وَلَدَ ٱللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ waladallāhu wa innahum lakādhibūn "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed!
153
أَصْطَفَى ٱلْبَنَاتِ عَلَى ٱلْبَنِينَ aṣṭafal banāti `alal-banīn Does He prefer sons to daughters?
154
مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ mā lakum kayfa taḥkumūn What ails you that you judge in such a wise?
155
أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ afalā tadhakkarūn Why do you not reflect?
156
أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَـٰنٌ مُّبِينٌ am lakum sulṭānun mubīn Or have you received some clear authority?
157
فَأْتُوا۟ بِكِتَـٰبِكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ fa-tū bikitābikum in kuntum ṣādiqīn Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true.
158
وَجَعَلُوا۟ بَيْنَهُۥ وَبَيْنَ ٱلْجِنَّةِ نَسَبًا ۚ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَتِ ٱلْجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ waja`alū baynahu wabaynal jinnati nasabā ۚ walaqad `alimatil jinnatu innahum lamuḥḍarūn They link Him with jinns by lineage, yet the jinns know they will be brought before Him.
159
سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ subḥānallāhi `ammā yaṣifūn God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him
160
إِلَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ illā `ibādallāhil mukhlaṣīn Except His chosen creatures who do not.
161
فَإِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ fa-innakum wa mā ta`budūn So neither you nor those you worship
162
مَآ أَنتُمْ عَلَيْهِ بِفَـٰتِنِينَ mā antum `alayhi bifātinīn Can mislead anyone away from Him,
163
إِلَّا مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ illā man huwa ṣālil jaḥīm Except one who is (destined) to burn in Hell.
164
وَمَا مِنَّآ إِلَّا لَهُۥ مَقَامٌ مَّعْلُومٌ wa mā minnā illā lahu maqāmun ma`lūm "There is not one of us who does not have his appointed place," (declare the angels.)
165
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلصَّآفُّونَ wa innā lanaḥnuṣ ṣāffūn "And we are truly those who stand in rows,
166
وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلْمُسَبِّحُونَ wa innā lanaḥnul musabbiḥūn And we are those who sing hallelujas to Him."
167
وَإِن كَانُوا۟ لَيَقُولُونَ wa in kānū layaqūlūn They used to say:
168
لَوْ أَنَّ عِندَنَا ذِكْرًا مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ law anna `indanā dhikran minal-awwalīn If we had the account of earlier people with us,
169
لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ lakunnā `ibādallāhil mukhlaṣīn We would have been the chosen creatures of God."
170
فَكَفَرُوا۟ بِهِۦ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ fakafarū bih ۖ fasawfa ya`lamūn Yet now (that it has come) they refuse to believe in it; but they will come to know soon.
171
وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ walaqad sabaqat kalimatunā li`ibādinal mursalīn Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, --
172
إِنَّهُمْ لَهُمُ ٱلْمَنصُورُونَ innahum lahumul manṣūrūn That they would be helped,
173
وَإِنَّ جُندَنَا لَهُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ wa inna jundanā lahumul ghālibūn And that certainly Our armies will be victorious.
174
فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ fatawalla `anhum ḥattā ḥīn So you ignore them for a time
175
وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ wa-abṣirhum fasawfa yubṣirūn And wait; they will come to know soon.
176
أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ afabi`adhābinā yasta`jilūn Do they want to hasten Our punishment?
177
فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ فَسَآءَ صَبَاحُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ fa-idhā nazala bisāḥatihim fasā-a ṣabāḥul mundharīn When it comes down on their plains, it will be an evil dawn for those who had been warned.
178
وَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ watawalla `anhum ḥattā ḥīn So turn away from them for a time
179
وَأَبْصِرْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ wa-abṣir fasawfa yubṣirūn And watch; they will come to know soon.
180
سُبْحَـٰنَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ ٱلْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ subḥāna rabbika rabbil `izzati `ammā yaṣifūn Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him.
181
وَسَلَـٰمٌ عَلَى ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ wasalāmun `alal-mursalīn So peace be on the messengers,
182
وَٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ wal ḥamdu lillāhi rabbil `ālamīn And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds.
