13
ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ نُطْفَةً فِى قَرَارٍ مَّكِينٍ thumma ja`alnāhu nuṭfatan fī qarārin makīn Then We placed him as a sperm in a firmly established lodging;
14
ثُمَّ خَلَقْنَا ٱلنُّطْفَةَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقْنَا ٱلْعَلَقَةَ مُضْغَةً فَخَلَقْنَا ٱلْمُضْغَةَ عِظَـٰمًا فَكَسَوْنَا ٱلْعِظَـٰمَ لَحْمًا ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُ خَلْقًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَتَبَارَكَ ٱللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ thumma khalaqnan nuṭfata `alaqatan fakhalaqnal `alaqata muḍghatan fakhalaqnal muḍghata `iẓāman fakasawnal `iẓāma laḥman thumma ansha-nāhu khalqan ākhar ۚ fatabārakallāhu aḥsanul khāliqīn Then We fashioned the sperm into an embryo, then fashioned the embryo into a shapeless lump of flesh; then from the lump of flesh We fashioned bones, then clothed the bones with flesh. Thus We formed him into a new creation. So blessed be God the best of Creators.
15

23
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِۦ فَقَالَ يَـٰقَوْمِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ walaqad arsalnā nūḥan ilā qawmihi faqāla yāqawmi'-budullāha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruh ۖ afalā tattaqūn We sent Noah to his people. 24
فَقَالَ ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَوْمِهِۦ مَا هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يُرِيدُ أَن يَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَأَنزَلَ مَلَـٰٓئِكَةً مَّا سَمِعْنَا بِهَـٰذَا فِىٓ ءَابَآئِنَا ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ faqālal-mala-ul ladhīna kafarū min qawmihi mā hādhā illā basharun mithlukum yurīdu an yatafaḍḍala `alaykum walaw shā-allāhu la-anzala malā-ikatan mā sami`nā bihādhā fī ābā-inal-awwalīn The chiefs of his people, who did not believe, said: "He is only a man like you. He wishes to acquire ascendancy over you. If God had willed He would have sent down angels. We never heard this from our elders.
25

27
فَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ أَنِ ٱصْنَعِ ٱلْفُلْكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَوَحْيِنَا فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَمْرُنَا وَفَارَ ٱلتَّنُّورُ ۙ فَٱسْلُكْ فِيهَا مِن كُلٍّ زَوْجَيْنِ ٱثْنَيْنِ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا مَن سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْقَوْلُ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَلَا تُخَـٰطِبْنِى فِى ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ ۖ إِنَّهُم مُّغْرَقُونَ fa-awḥaynā ilayhi aniṣ-na`il fulka bi-a`yuninā wawaḥyinā fa-idhā jā-a amrunā wafārat tannūru fasluk fīhā min kullin zawjaynith-nayni wa-ahlaka illā man sabaqa `alayhil qawlu minhum ۖ walā tukhāṭibnī fil ladhīna ẓalamū ۖ innahum mughraqūn So We asked him to build the ark under Our eyes and guidance, (and said): "When Our command is issued and the source of water boils over, put a pair of every species in it, and your family except those for whom Our sentence has been passed already; and do not speak to Me for those who are wicked: They will be drowned.
28
فَإِذَا ٱسْتَوَيْتَ أَنتَ وَمَن مَّعَكَ عَلَى ٱلْفُلْكِ فَقُلِ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ٱلَّذِى نَجَّىٰنَا مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ fa-idhas-tawayta anta wa man ma`aka `alal-fulki faqulil ḥamdu lillāhil ladhī najjānā minal qawmiẓ ẓālimīn When you and those with you have boarded the ark, say: 'All praise be to God who has delivered us from the people who were sinful.'
29
وَقُل رَّبِّ أَنزِلْنِى مُنزَلًا مُّبَارَكًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ waqul rabbi anzilnī munzalan mubārakan wa-anta khayrul munzilīn And say: 'O Lord, disembark me in a welcome place; You are the best of deliverers.'
30
إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ وَإِن كُنَّا لَمُبْتَلِينَ inna fī dhālika la-āyātin wa in kunnā lamubtalīn There were surely signs in this; We will surely put you to the test.
31
ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ قَرْنًا ءَاخَرِينَ thumma ansha-nā min ba`dihim qarnan ākharīn After them We raised a new generation.
32
فَأَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِّنْهُمْ أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَـٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ fa-arsalnā fīhim rasūlan minhum ani'-budullāha mā lakum min ilāhin ghayruh ۖ afalā tattaqūn Then We sent to them an apostle from among them (who said): "Worship God, for you have no other god but He. Will you not take heed and fear God?"
33
وَقَالَ ٱلْمَلَأُ مِن قَوْمِهِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِلِقَآءِ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَأَتْرَفْنَـٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا مَا هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُكُمْ يَأْكُلُ مِمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ مِنْهُ وَيَشْرَبُ مِمَّا تَشْرَبُونَ waqālal-mala-u min qawmihil ladhīna kafarū wakadhhabū biliqā-il-ākhirati wa-atrafnāhum fil ḥayātid dunyā mā hādhā illā basharun mithlukum ya-kulu mimmā ta-kulūna minhu wayashrabu mimmā tashrabūn The chiefs of the people who did not believe and denied the life to come, though We had given them good things of this life to enjoy, (said): "He is only a mortal like you. He eats as you do, and drinks as you drink.
34
وَلَئِنْ أَطَعْتُم بَشَرًا مِّثْلَكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَّخَـٰسِرُونَ wala-in aṭa`tum basharan mithlakum innakum idhal lakhāsirūn So if you follow a man like yourself you will certainly be doomed.
35
أَيَعِدُكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ إِذَا مِتُّمْ وَكُنتُمْ تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَنَّكُم مُّخْرَجُونَ aya`idukum annakum idhā mittum wakuntum turāban wa`iẓāman annakum mukhrajūn Does he give you a promise that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be raised to life again?
36
هَيْهَاتَ هَيْهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَ hayhāta hayhāta limā tū`adūn How far-fetched what you are promised;
37
إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا ٱلدُّنْيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحْيَا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَبْعُوثِينَ in hiya illā ḥayātunad dunyā namūtu wanaḥyā wa mā naḥnu bimab`ūthīn There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us.
38
إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ ٱفْتَرَىٰ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ كَذِبًا وَمَا نَحْنُ لَهُۥ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ in huwa illā rajulunif-tarā `alallāhi kadhiban wa mā naḥnu lahu bimu-minīn He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him."
39
قَالَ رَبِّ ٱنصُرْنِى بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ qāla rabbin-ṣurnī bimā kadhhabūn (The apostle prayed): "O Lord, deliver me, for they accuse me of lies."
40
قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِيلٍ لَّيُصْبِحُنَّ نَـٰدِمِينَ qāla `ammā qalīlin layuṣbiḥunna nādimīn Answered (the Lord): "They shall wake up repenting soon."
41
فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ غُثَآءً ۚ فَبُعْدًا لِّلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ fa-akhadhat-humuṣ ṣayḥatu bil ḥaqqi faja`alnāhum ghuthā-ā ۚ fabu`dal lilqawmiẓ ẓālimīn So they were rightly seized by a mighty blast; and We turned them into mouldy rubbish: A good riddance of the wicked people!
42
ثُمَّ أَنشَأْنَا مِنۢ بَعْدِهِمْ قُرُونًا ءَاخَرِينَ thumma ansha-nā min ba`dihim qurūnan ākharīn Then after them We raised other generations.
43
مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ mā tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahā wa mā yasta-khirūn No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind.
44
ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتْرَا ۖ كُلَّ مَا جَآءَ أُمَّةً رَّسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُ ۚ فَأَتْبَعْنَا بَعْضَهُم بَعْضًا وَجَعَلْنَـٰهُمْ أَحَادِيثَ ۚ فَبُعْدًا لِّقَوْمٍ لَّا يُؤْمِنُونَ thumma arsalnā rusulanā tatrā ۖ kulla mā jā-a ummatan rasūluhā kadhhabūh ۚ fa-atba`nā ba`ḍahum ba`ḍan waja`alnāhum aḥādīth ۚ fabu`dal liqawmin lā yu-minūn Then We sent Our apostles one after the other. Every time an apostle came to a people they denied him. So We made one follow the other (to its doom), and turned them into bygone tales. Cursed be the people who do not believe!
45
ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَأَخَاهُ هَـٰرُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا وَسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ thumma arsalnā mūsā wa-akhāhu hārūna bi-āyātinā wasulṭānin mubīn Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear proofs
46
إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَإِي۟هِۦ فَٱسْتَكْبَرُوا۟ وَكَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا عَالِينَ ilā fir`awna wa mala-ihi fastakbarū wakānū qawman `ālīn To Pharaoh and his nobles who behaved with arrogance, for they were a conceited lot,
47
فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَنُؤْمِنُ لِبَشَرَيْنِ مِثْلِنَا وَقَوْمُهُمَا لَنَا عَـٰبِدُونَ faqālū anu-minu libasharayni mithlinā waqawmuhumā lanā `ābidūn And said: "Should we believe in two men like yourselves, whose people are our subjects?"
48
فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَكَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْمُهْلَكِينَ fakadhhabūhumā fakānū minal muhlakīn Then they accused them of lies, and joined the company of those who were destroyed.
49
وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَا مُوسَى ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ walaqad ātaynā mūsal kitāba la`allahum yahtadūn And We gave the Book to Moses so that they may be guided.
50
وَجَعَلْنَا ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَأُمَّهُۥٓ ءَايَةً وَءَاوَيْنَـٰهُمَآ إِلَىٰ رَبْوَةٍ ذَاتِ قَرَارٍ وَمَعِينٍ waja`alnab-na maryama wa-ummahu āyatan wa-āwaynāhumā ilā rabwatin dhāti qarārin wa ma`īn And We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them shelter on an elevated ground, sequestered, watered by a spring.
51
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلرُّسُلُ كُلُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ وَٱعْمَلُوا۟ صَـٰلِحًا ۖ إِنِّى بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ عَلِيمٌ yā-ayyuhar rusulu kulū minaṭ ṭayyibāti wa`malū ṣāliḥā ۖ innī bimā ta`malūna `alīm O you apostles, eat things that are clean, and do things that are good. We are surely cognisant of what you do.
52

53

62
وَلَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۖ وَلَدَيْنَا كِتَـٰبٌ يَنطِقُ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ walā nukallifu nafsan illā wus`ahā ۖ waladaynā kitābun yanṭiqu bil ḥaqq ۚ wahum lā yuẓlamūn We do not burden a soul beyond capacity, for We have a record that tells the truth. No wrong will be done to any one.
63
بَلْ قُلُوبُهُمْ فِى غَمْرَةٍ مِّنْ هَـٰذَا وَلَهُمْ أَعْمَـٰلٌ مِّن دُونِ ذَٰلِكَ هُمْ لَهَا عَـٰمِلُونَ bal qulūbuhum fī ghamratim min hādhā walahum a`mālun min dūni dhālika hum lahā `āmilūn Yet their hearts are oblivious of this; and besides, they are busy with other things,
64

أَمْ لَمْ يَعْرِفُوا۟ رَسُولَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَهُۥ مُنكِرُونَ am lam ya`rifū rasūlahum fahum lahu munkirūn Or did they not recognise their apostle, and rejected him?
70
أَمْ يَقُولُونَ بِهِۦ جِنَّةٌۢ ۚ بَلْ جَآءَهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ لِلْحَقِّ كَـٰرِهُونَ am yaqūlūna bihi jinnah ۚ bal jā-ahum bil ḥaqqi wa-aktharuhum lilḥaqqi kārihūn Or do they say that he is possessed? In fact, he has brought the truth to them, but most of them abhor the truth.
71
وَلَوِ ٱتَّبَعَ ٱلْحَقُّ أَهْوَآءَهُمْ لَفَسَدَتِ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهِنَّ ۚ بَلْ أَتَيْنَـٰهُم بِذِكْرِهِمْ فَهُمْ عَن ذِكْرِهِم مُّعْرِضُونَ walawit-taba`al ḥaqqu ahwā-ahum lafasadatis samāwātu wal-arḍu wa man fīhinn ۚ bal ataynāhum bidhikrihim fahum `an dhikrihim mu`riḍūn Had truth been subject to their whims the heavens and the earth and all those within them would have been depraved. In fact We had sent them their reminder, but they turned away from good advice.
72
أَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ خَرْجًا فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ ۖ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰزِقِينَ am tas-aluhum kharjan fakharāju rabbika khayr ۖ wahuwa khayrur rāziqīn Or do you ask of them any tribute? In that case the tribute of your Lord is better, for He is the best of providers.
73
وَإِنَّكَ لَتَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ wa innaka latad`ūhum ilā ṣirāṭin mustaqīm You are surely calling them to the right path.
74
وَإِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ عَنِ ٱلصِّرَٰطِ لَنَـٰكِبُونَ wa innal ladhīna lā yu-minūna bil-ākhirati `aniṣ ṣirāṭi lanākibūn But those who believe not in the Hereafter turn away from the straight path.
75
وَلَوْ رَحِمْنَـٰهُمْ وَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِم مِّن ضُرٍّ لَّلَجُّوا۟ فِى طُغْيَـٰنِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ walaw raḥimnāhum wakashafnā mā bihim min ḍurrin lalajjū fī ṭughyānihim ya`mahūn If We took compassion on them and removed the affliction they are in, they would only wander lost in confusion.
76
وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَـٰهُم بِٱلْعَذَابِ فَمَا ٱسْتَكَانُوا۟ لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ walaqad akhadhnāhum bil `adhābi famas-takānū lirabbihim wa mā yataḍarra`ūn We had seized them with the punishment, but they did not bow before their Lord nor turned to Him in humility,
77
حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًا ذَا عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ إِذَا هُمْ فِيهِ مُبْلِسُونَ ḥattā idhā fataḥnā `alayhim bāban dhā `adhābin shadīdin idhā hum fīhi mublisūn So that when at last We open up the gate of severe punishment on them they will be overwhelmed with despair.
78
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَنشَأَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَشْكُرُونَ wahuwal ladhī ansha-a lakumus sam`a wal-abṣāra wal-af-idah ۚ qalīlan mā tashkurūn It is He who gave you hearing, sight, and hearts, but only few of you give thanks.
79
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى ذَرَأَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ wahuwal ladhī dhara-akum fil-arḍi wa ilayhi tuḥsharūn It is He who multiplied you on the earth, and it will be before Him that you will be gathered.
80
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ وَلَهُ ٱخْتِلَـٰفُ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱلنَّهَارِ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ wahuwal ladhī yuḥyī wayumītu walahukh-tilāful layli wan nahār ۚ afalā ta`qilūn It is He who gives you life and death, and His the alternation of night and day. Even then you do not understand,
81
بَلْ قَالُوا۟ مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ bal qālū mithla mā qālal-awwalūn And talk as did the people of old.
82

83
لَقَدْ وُعِدْنَا نَحْنُ وَءَابَآؤُنَا هَـٰذَا مِن قَبْلُ إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّآ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ laqad wu`idnā naḥnu wa-ābā-unā hādhā min qablu in hādhā illā asāṭīrul-awwalīn We and our fathers were promised this before; it is nothing but ancient lore!"
84
قُل لِّمَنِ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَن فِيهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ qul limanil-arḍu wa man fīhā in kuntum ta`lamūn Say: "To whom does the earth and whosoever is upon it then belong, if you know?"
85

87
سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ sayaqūlūna lillāh ۚ qul afalā tattaqūn They will say: "God." Say: "Then why do you not obey and fear Him?"
88
قُلْ مَنۢ بِيَدِهِۦ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَهُوَ يُجِيرُ وَلَا يُجَارُ عَلَيْهِ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ qul man biyadihi malakūtu kulli shay-in wahuwa yujīru walā yujāru `alayhi in kuntum ta`lamūn Say: "Whose is the sovereignty over all things, who protects, and against whom there is no protection? {Answer) if you have knowledge."

90
بَلْ أَتَيْنَـٰهُم بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ bal ataynāhum bil ḥaqqi wa innahum lakādhibūn In fact We have sent the truth to them, but they are liars.
91

Had this been so, each god would have taken away what he had created with him, and some would have risen over the others. God is much too glorious for what they attribute (to Him)!
92
عَـٰلِمِ ٱلْغَيْبِ وَٱلشَّهَـٰدَةِ فَتَعَـٰلَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ `ālimil ghaybi wash shahādati fata`ālā `ammā yushrikūn The knower of the absent and the present, too exalted is He for what they associate (with Him)!

Not so. These are only words he utters. Behind them lies the intervening barrier (stretching) to the day of their resurrection.
101
فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَلَآ أَنسَابَ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَلَا يَتَسَآءَلُونَ fa-idhā nufikha fiṣ ṣūri falā ansāba baynahum yawma-idhin walā yatasā-alūn When the trumpet blast is sounded no ties of lineage will hold among them, nor will they ask after one another.

Verily the unbelievers will not prosper.
