بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.
1
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ ٱتَّقُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ زَلْزَلَةَ ٱلسَّاعَةِ شَىْءٌ عَظِيمٌ yā-ayyuhan nāsut-taqū rabbakum ۚ inna zalzalatas sā`ati shay-un `aẓīm O YOU PEOPLE, fear your Lord. The great upheaval of the Hour will indeed be terrible.
2
يَوْمَ تَرَوْنَهَا تَذْهَلُ كُلُّ مُرْضِعَةٍ عَمَّآ أَرْضَعَتْ وَتَضَعُ كُلُّ ذَاتِ حَمْلٍ حَمْلَهَا وَتَرَى ٱلنَّاسَ سُكَـٰرَىٰ وَمَا هُم بِسُكَـٰرَىٰ وَلَـٰكِنَّ عَذَابَ ٱللَّهِ شَدِيدٌ yawma tarawnahā tadh-halu kullu murḍi`atin `ammā arḍa`at wataḍa`u kullu dhāti ḥamlin ḥamlahā wataran nāsa sukārā wa mā hum bisukārā walākinna `adhāballāhi shadīd The day you see it every suckling female will forget her suckling, and every pregnant female will discharge her burden. You will see men drunk, yet it will not be intoxication. The torment of God will be severe.
3
وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يُجَـٰدِلُ فِى ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَيَتَّبِعُ كُلَّ شَيْطَـٰنٍ مَّرِيدٍ wa minan nāsi man yujādilu fillāhi bighayri `il-min wayattabi`u kulla shayṭānin marīd And yet there are men who contend about God without understanding, and follow every wayward devil

كُتِبَ عَلَيْهِ أَنَّهُۥ مَن تَوَلَّاهُ فَأَنَّهُۥ يُضِلُّهُۥ وَيَهْدِيهِ إِلَىٰ عَذَابِ ٱلسَّعِيرِ kutiba `alayhi annahu man tawallāhu fa-annahu yuḍilluhu wayahdīhi ilā `adhābis sa`īr Who, it is inscribed, will beguile whoever follows him, and lead him to the torment of Hell.
5
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِن كُنتُمْ فِى رَيْبٍ مِّنَ ٱلْبَعْثِ فَإِنَّا خَلَقْنَـٰكُم مِّن تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ ثُمَّ مِنْ عَلَقَةٍ ثُمَّ مِن مُّضْغَةٍ مُّخَلَّقَةٍ وَغَيْرِ مُخَلَّقَةٍ لِّنُبَيِّنَ لَكُمْ ۚ وَنُقِرُّ فِى ٱلْأَرْحَامِ مَا نَشَآءُ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ثُمَّ نُخْرِجُكُمْ طِفْلًا ثُمَّ لِتَبْلُغُوٓا۟ أَشُدَّكُمْ ۖ وَمِنكُم مَّن يُتَوَفَّىٰ وَمِنكُم مَّن يُرَدُّ إِلَىٰٓ أَرْذَلِ ٱلْعُمُرِ لِكَيْلَا يَعْلَمَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ عِلْمٍ شَيْـًٔا ۚ وَتَرَى ٱلْأَرْضَ هَامِدَةً فَإِذَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْهَا ٱلْمَآءَ ٱهْتَزَّتْ وَرَبَتْ وَأَنۢبَتَتْ مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍۭ بَهِيجٍ yā-ayyuhan nāsu in kuntum fī raybin minal ba`thi fa-innā khalaqnākum min turābin thumma min nuṭfatin thumma min `alaqatin thumma min muḍghatim mukhallaqatin waghayri mukhallaqatin linubayyina lakum ۚ wanuqirru fil-arḥāmi mā nashā-u ilā ajalin musamman thumma nukhrijukum ṭiflan thumma litablughū ashuddakum ۖ wa minkum man yutawaffā wa minkum man yuraddu ilā ardhalil `umuri likaylā ya`lama min ba`di `il-min shay-ā ۚ wataral-arḍa hāmidatan fa-idhā anzalnā `alayhal mā-ah-tazzat warabat wa-anbatat min kulli zawjin bahīj If you have any doubt, O men, about being raised to life again, (remember) that We created you from dust, then a drop of semen, then an embryo, then a chewed up lump of flesh shaped and shapeless, that We may reveal (the various steps) to you. We keep what We please in the womb for a certain time, then you come out as a child, then reach the prime of age. Some of you die, some reach the age of dotage when they forget what they knew, having known it once. You see the earth all withered, then We send down rain upon it, and it bestirs itself, swells, and brings forth every kind of beauteous verdure.

ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَأَنَّهُۥ يُحْىِ ٱلْمَوْتَىٰ وَأَنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ dhālika bi-annallāha huwal ḥaqqu wa-annahu yuḥyil mawtā wa-annahu `alā kulli shay-in qadīr That is so for God is the undeniable Reality. It is He who brings the dead to life, for He has power over everything.
7
وَأَنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ ءَاتِيَةٌ لَّا رَيْبَ فِيهَا وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَبْعَثُ مَن فِى ٱلْقُبُورِ wa-annas sā`ata ātiyatun lā rayba fīhā wa-annallāha yab`athu man fil qubūr The Hour will come without a doubt, and God will raise those who are dead.
8
وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يُجَـٰدِلُ فِى ٱللَّهِ بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ وَلَا هُدًى وَلَا كِتَـٰبٍ مُّنِيرٍ wa minan nāsi man yujādilu fillāhi bighayri `il-min walā hudan walā kitābin munīr Yet there are some who contend about God without any knowledge or guidance or enlightening Book,
9
ثَانِىَ عِطْفِهِۦ لِيُضِلَّ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ لَهُۥ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا خِزْىٌ ۖ وَنُذِيقُهُۥ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ عَذَابَ ٱلْحَرِيقِ thāniya `iṭfihi liyuḍilla `an sabīlillāh ۖ lahu fid dunyā khizyun ۖ wanudhīquhu yawmal qiyāmati `adhābal ḥarīq Turning their backs that they may lead away from the path of God. For such there is disgrace in the world, and on the Day of Judgement We shall make them taste the torment of burning.
10
ذَٰلِكَ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاكَ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَيْسَ بِظَلَّـٰمٍ لِّلْعَبِيدِ dhālika bimā qaddamat yadāka wa-annallāha laysa biẓallāmin lil`abīd That is on account of what you had done in the past; yet God is not unjust to His creatures.
11

If there is some profit they are content; but if calamity befalls them they turn about, thus losing both this world and the next. This is indeed a palpable loss.
12
يَدْعُوا۟ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَضُرُّهُۥ وَمَا لَا يَنفَعُهُۥ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلضَّلَـٰلُ ٱلْبَعِيدُ yad`ū min dūnillāhi mā lā yaḍurruhu wa mā lā yanfa`uh ۚ dhālika huwaḍ ḍalālul ba`īd Leaving God they pray to those who cannot harm or profit them. That is the limit of going astray.
13
يَدْعُوا۟ لَمَن ضَرُّهُۥٓ أَقْرَبُ مِن نَّفْعِهِۦ ۚ لَبِئْسَ ٱلْمَوْلَىٰ وَلَبِئْسَ ٱلْعَشِيرُ yad`ū laman ḍarruhu aqrabu min naf`ih ۚ labi-sal mawlā walabi-sal `ashīr They pray to him whose bane is more imminent than his boon: How bad the protector and how bad the associate!
14
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُدْخِلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ جَنَّـٰتٍ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَفْعَلُ مَا يُرِيدُ innallāha yudkhilul ladhīna āmanū wa`amiluṣ ṣāliḥāti jannātin tajrī min taḥtihal-anhār ۚ innallāha yaf`alu mā yurīd God will admit those who believe and do the right to gardens full of rippling streams. Verily God does as He pleases.
15
مَن كَانَ يَظُنُّ أَن لَّن يَنصُرَهُ ٱللَّهُ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا وَٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ فَلْيَمْدُدْ بِسَبَبٍ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ ثُمَّ لْيَقْطَعْ فَلْيَنظُرْ هَلْ يُذْهِبَنَّ كَيْدُهُۥ مَا يَغِيظُ man kāna yaẓunnu an lan yanṣurahullāhu fid dunyā wal-ākhirati falyamdud bisababin ilas samā-i thummalyaqṭa` falyanẓur hal yudh-hibanna kayduhu mā yaghīẓ He who thinks that God will not help him in this world and the next should stretch a rope to the sky then cut it off and see if his mind is relieved (of doubts) by this stratagem.

17
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوا۟ وَٱلصَّـٰبِـِٔينَ وَٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰ وَٱلْمَجُوسَ وَٱلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوٓا۟ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَفْصِلُ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدٌ innal ladhīna āmanū wal ladhīna hādū waṣ ṣābi-īna wan naṣārā wal majūsa wal ladhīna ashrakū innallāha yafṣilu baynahum yawmal qiyāmah ۚ innallāha `alā kulli shay-in shahīd God will judge between those who believe and the Jews, the Sabians, Christians and the Magians and the idolaters, on the Day of Judgement. Verily God is witness to everything.

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَسْجُدُ لَهُۥ مَن فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَن فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ وَٱلنُّجُومُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ وَٱلدَّوَآبُّ وَكَثِيرٌ مِّنَ ٱلنَّاسِ ۖ وَكَثِيرٌ حَقَّ عَلَيْهِ ٱلْعَذَابُ ۗ وَمَن يُهِنِ ٱللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن مُّكْرِمٍ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَآءُ ۩ alam tara annallāha yasjudu lahu man fis samāwāti wa man fil-arḍi wash shamsu wal qamaru wan nujūmu wal jibālu wash shajaru wad dawābbu wakathīrun minan nās ۖ wakathīrun ḥaqqa `alayhil `adhāb ۗ wa man yuhinillāhu famā lahu min mukrim ۚ innallāha yaf`alu mā yashā-u ۩ Do you see how all things in heavens and the earth, the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, trees and beasts, and men in abundance, pay homage to God? Yet there are many who deserve the punishment. And whosoever God disgraces will have none to raise him up in honour. God does verily as He will.

هَـٰذَانِ خَصْمَانِ ٱخْتَصَمُوا۟ فِى رَبِّهِمْ ۖ فَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ قُطِّعَتْ لَهُمْ ثِيَابٌ مِّن نَّارٍ يُصَبُّ مِن فَوْقِ رُءُوسِهِمُ ٱلْحَمِيمُ hādhāni khaṣmānikh-taṣamū fī rabbihim ۖ fal ladhīna kafarū quṭṭi`at lahum thiyābun min nāriy yuṣabbu min fawqi ru-ūsihimul ḥamīm These two (believers and unbelievers) are disputants, who contend about their Lord. But they who disbelieve will be fitted out with garments of flames. Boiling water will be poured down over their heads
20
يُصْهَرُ بِهِۦ مَا فِى بُطُونِهِمْ وَٱلْجُلُودُ yuṣ-haru bihi mā fī buṭūnihim wal julūd Which will dissolve everything within their bellies, and their skins.

Whoever puts obstructions in this mischievously will taste of painful punishment.

They will come to you on foot and riding along distant roads on lean and slender beasts,
28

30
ذَٰلِكَ وَمَن يُعَظِّمْ حُرُمَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّهُۥ عِندَ رَبِّهِۦ ۗ وَأُحِلَّتْ لَكُمُ ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمُ إِلَّا مَا يُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟ ٱلرِّجْسَ مِنَ ٱلْأَوْثَـٰنِ وَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟ قَوْلَ ٱلزُّورِ dhālika wa man yu`aẓẓim ḥurumātillāhi fahuwa khayrul lahu `inda rabbih ۗ wa-uḥillat lakumul-an`āmu illā mā yutlā `alaykum ۖ fajtanibur rijsa minal-awthāni wajtanibū qawlaz zūr Apart from this, whoever respects the sacred ordinances of God, will find a better reward for him with his Lord. You are allowed to eat all cattle except those already mentioned to you. Avoid the repugnance of idols, and false and frivolous talk.
31

32
ذَٰلِكَ وَمَن يُعَظِّمْ شَعَـٰٓئِرَ ٱللَّهِ فَإِنَّهَا مِن تَقْوَى ٱلْقُلُوبِ dhālika wa man yu`aẓẓim sha`ā-irallāhi fa-innahā min taqwal qulūb All this, and honouring the offerings to God, comes from purity of heart.

Your God is one God, so be obedient to Him. Give good tidings to those who bow in obedience to God,
35

There is good for you in this. So pronounce the name of God over them as they stand with their forefeet in a line. When they have fallen (slaughtered) on their sides, eat of (their meat) and feed those who are content with little, and those who supplicate. That is why We have brought them under your subjugation so that you may be grateful.
37

That is why He has subjugated them to you that you may glorify God for having shown you the way. So give glad tidings to those who are doers of good.

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُدَٰفِعُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُحِبُّ كُلَّ خَوَّانٍ كَفُورٍ innallāha yudāfi`u `anil ladhīna āmanū ۗ innallāha lā yuḥibbu kulla khawwānin kafūr God will certainly defend the believers. Surely God does not like the traitors who deny the truth.

God is certainly able to give help to those

And if God had not restrained some men through some others, monastries, churches, synagogues and mosques, where the name of God is honoured most, would have been razed. God will surely help those who help Him, -- verily God is all-powerful and all-mighty, --

But the resultance of things rests with God.

Verily a day with your Lord is equal by your reckoning to a thousand years.

62
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَأَنَّ مَا يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِهِۦ هُوَ ٱلْبَـٰطِلُ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلْعَلِىُّ ٱلْكَبِيرُ dhālika bi-annallāha huwal ḥaqqu wa-anna mā yad`ūna min dūnihi huwal bāṭilu wa-annallāha huwal `aliyyul kabīr That is so for God is the undeniable truth, and what they invoke apart from Him is false; yet God is all-high and supreme.
63
أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَتُصْبِحُ ٱلْأَرْضُ مُخْضَرَّةً ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَطِيفٌ خَبِيرٌ alam tara annallāha anzala minas samā-i mā-an fatuṣbiḥul-arḍu mukhḍarrah ۗ innallāha laṭīfun khabīr Do you not see how God sends down water from the sky and in the morning the earth turns green? Truly God is benign and well-informed.
64

And the boats ply in the ocean by His command. He holds the sky in position lest it should fall upon the earth save by His dispensation. Verily God is compassionate and kind to men.
66
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَحْيَاكُمْ ثُمَّ يُمِيتُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُحْيِيكُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَكَفُورٌ wahuwal ladhī aḥyākum thumma yumītukum thumma yuḥyīkum ۗ innal-insāna lakafūr It is He who gives you life, then makes you die; then He will bring you back to life again. Man is surely most ungrateful.
67
لِّكُلِّ أُمَّةٍ جَعَلْنَا مَنسَكًا هُمْ نَاسِكُوهُ ۖ فَلَا يُنَـٰزِعُنَّكَ فِى ٱلْأَمْرِ ۚ وَٱدْعُ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ۖ إِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ هُدًى مُّسْتَقِيمٍ likulli ummatin ja`alnā mansakan hum nāsikūh ۖ falā yunāzi`unnaka fil-amr ۚ wad`u ilā rabbik ۖ innaka la`alā hudan mustaqīm We have determined for each community a way of worship which they follow. So they should not contend with you in this matter; and you should go on calling them to your Lord. You are surely on the right path.
68
وَإِن جَـٰدَلُوكَ فَقُلِ ٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ wa in jādalūka faqulillāhu a`lamu bimā ta`malūn If they argue with you, tell them: "God knows well what you are doing.
69

70
أَلَمْ تَعْلَمْ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۗ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ فِى كِتَـٰبٍ ۚ إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ يَسِيرٌ alam ta`lam annallāha ya`lamu mā fis samā-i wal-arḍ ۗ inna dhālika fī kitāb ۚ inna dhālika `alallāhi yasīr Do you not know that God knows whatever is in the heavens and the earth? This is surely in accordance with the law. This is certainly how (the law of) God works inevitably.
71
وَيَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يُنَزِّلْ بِهِۦ سُلْطَـٰنًا وَمَا لَيْسَ لَهُم بِهِۦ عِلْمٌ ۗ وَمَا لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ مِن نَّصِيرٍ waya`budūna min dūnillāhi mā lam yunazzil bihi sulṭānan wa mā laysa lahum bihi `il-m ۗ wa mā liẓẓālimīna min naṣīr Yet they worship in place of God that for which no authority has been sent to them, and of which they have no knowledge. The wicked will have none to help them.

They can hardly restrain themselves from attacking those who recite Our revelations. Tell them: "Should I give you news of something worse than this?" -- Hell, which God has promised the infidels. How evil a destination!

How weak the seeker and how weak the sought!

He is your friend: How excellent a friend is He, how excellent a helper!
