5
وَٱلْأَنْعَـٰمَ خَلَقَهَا ۗ لَكُمْ فِيهَا دِفْءٌ وَمَنَـٰفِعُ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ wal-an`āma khalaqahā ۗ lakum fīhā dif-un wa manāfi`u wa minhā ta-kulūn He created the cattle from whom you get warm clothing and (other) advantages, and some you eat.
6
وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا جَمَالٌ حِينَ تُرِيحُونَ وَحِينَ تَسْرَحُونَ walakum fīhā jamālun ḥīna turīḥūna waḥīna tasraḥūn There is life and cheer for you as you drive them home in the evening, and lead them out in the morning to graze.
7
وَتَحْمِلُ أَثْقَالَكُمْ إِلَىٰ بَلَدٍ لَّمْ تَكُونُوا۟ بَـٰلِغِيهِ إِلَّا بِشِقِّ ٱلْأَنفُسِ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ لَرَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ wataḥmilu athqālakum ilā baladin lam takūnū bālighīhi illā bishiqqil-anfus ۚ inna rabbakum lara-ūfun raḥīm They carry your burdens to lands so distant you could not have reached without much hardship. In this are signs for men who understand.
13
وَمَا ذَرَأَ لَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُخْتَلِفًا أَلْوَٰنُهُۥٓ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَذَّكَّرُونَ wa mā dhara-a lakum fil-arḍi mukhtalifan alwānuh ۗ inna fī dhālika la-āyatan liqawmiy yadhhakkarūn And other things of different shades has He produced on the earth for you. In this are signs for those who reflect.
14
وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى سَخَّرَ ٱلْبَحْرَ لِتَأْكُلُوا۟ مِنْهُ لَحْمًا طَرِيًّا وَتَسْتَخْرِجُوا۟ مِنْهُ حِلْيَةً تَلْبَسُونَهَا وَتَرَى ٱلْفُلْكَ مَوَاخِرَ فِيهِ وَلِتَبْتَغُوا۟ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ wahuwal ladhī sakhharal baḥra lita-kulū minhu laḥman ṭariyyan watastakhrijū minhu ḥilyatan talbasūnahā wataral fulka mawākhira fīhi walitabtaghū min faḍlihi wala`allakum tashkurūn It is He who has subdued the sea that you may eat fresh meat from it, and obtain ornaments to wear. 18
وَإِن تَعُدُّوا۟ نِعْمَةَ ٱللَّهِ لَا تُحْصُوهَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ wa in ta`uddū ni`matallāhi lā tuḥṣūhā ۗ innallāha laghafūrun raḥīm If you count the favours of God you will not be able to calculate. Assuredly God is forgiving and kind.
19
وَٱللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تُسِرُّونَ وَمَا تُعْلِنُونَ wallāhu ya`lamu mā tusirrūna wa mā tu`linūn God knows what you hide and disclose.
20
وَٱلَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ لَا يَخْلُقُونَ شَيْـًٔا وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ wal ladhīna yad`ūna min dūnillāhi lā yakhluqūna shay-an wahum yukhlaqūn , As for those they call besides God, they cannot create a thing, and have themselves been created.
21
أَمْوَٰتٌ غَيْرُ أَحْيَآءٍ ۖ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ أَيَّانَ يُبْعَثُونَ amwātun ghayru aḥyā-i ۖ wa mā yash`urūna ayyāna yub`athūn Dead, without life they are, and do not know when they will be raised.
22
إِلَـٰهُكُمْ إِلَـٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌ ۚ فَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ قُلُوبُهُم مُّنكِرَةٌ وَهُم مُّسْتَكْبِرُونَ ilāhukum ilāhun wāḥid ۚ fal ladhīna lā yu-minūna bil-ākhirati qulūbuhum munkiratun wahum mustakbirūn Your God is one God. But the hearts of those who believe not in the life to come are filled with denial, and they are puffed up with pride.
23
لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ لَا يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُسْتَكْبِرِينَ lā jarama annallāha ya`lamu mā yusirrūna wa mā yu`linūn ۚ innahu lā yuḥibbul mustakbirīn Surely God knows what they hide and what they disclose. He certainly does not love the proud.
24
وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُم مَّاذَآ أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمْ ۙ قَالُوٓا۟ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ wa idhā qīla lahum mādhā anzala rabbukum qālū asāṭīrul-awwalīn For when they are asked: "What has your Lord sent down?" they say: "Tales of long ago."
25
لِيَحْمِلُوٓا۟ أَوْزَارَهُمْ كَامِلَةً يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ ۙ وَمِنْ أَوْزَارِ ٱلَّذِينَ يُضِلُّونَهُم بِغَيْرِ عِلْمٍ ۗ أَلَا سَآءَ مَا يَزِرُونَ liyaḥmilū awzārahum kāmilatan yawmal qiyāmati wa min awzāril ladhīna yuḍillūnahum bighayri `il-m ۗ alā sā-a mā yazirūn On the Day of Resurrection they will carry their own burden and some of the load of those they have led astray without any knowledge. Oh, how evil a burden they will carry!
26
قَدْ مَكَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ فَأَتَى ٱللَّهُ بُنْيَـٰنَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْقَوَاعِدِ فَخَرَّ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّقْفُ مِن فَوْقِهِمْ وَأَتَىٰهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ qad makaral ladhīna min qablihim fa-atallāhu bunyānahum minal qawā`idi fakharra `alayhimus saqfu min fawqihim wa-atāhumul `adhābu min ḥaythu lā yash`urūn Those who have gone before them had also conspired; then God uprooted their structure from its foundation; the roof fell over them from above, and punishment came upon them from somewhere they did not suspect.
27
ثُمَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ يُخْزِيهِمْ وَيَقُولُ أَيْنَ شُرَكَآءِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ كُنتُمْ تُشَـٰٓقُّونَ فِيهِمْ ۚ قَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ إِنَّ ٱلْخِزْىَ ٱلْيَوْمَ وَٱلسُّوٓءَ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ thumma yawmal qiyāmati yukhzīhim wayaqūlu ayna shurakā-iyal ladhīna kuntum tushāqqūna fīhim ۚ qālal ladhīna ūtul `il-ma innal khizyal yawma was sū a `alal-kāfirīn On the Day of Resurrection He will disgrace them and ask: "Where are My compeers for whom you contended?" Those endowed with knowledge will say: "Shame and evil surely are for unbelievers today."
28
ٱلَّذِينَ تَتَوَفَّىٰهُمُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ ظَالِمِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ ۖ فَأَلْقَوُا۟ ٱلسَّلَمَ مَا كُنَّا نَعْمَلُ مِن سُوٓءٍۭ ۚ بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌۢ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ alladhīna tatawaffāhumul malā-ikatu ẓālimī anfusihim ۖ fa-alqawus salama mā kunnā na`malu min sū-ī ۚ balā innallāha `alīmun bimā kuntum ta`malūn They whose souls are drawn out by the angels while they are sinning, shall offer submission: "We did no evil." But God knows well what you did.
29
فَٱدْخُلُوٓا۟ أَبْوَٰبَ جَهَنَّمَ خَـٰلِدِينَ فِيهَا ۖ فَلَبِئْسَ مَثْوَى ٱلْمُتَكَبِّرِينَ fadkhulū abwāba jahannama khālidīna fīhā ۖ falabi-sa mathwal mutakabbirīn So enter the gates of Hell, and dwell there for ever. How dreadful a dwelling for the haughty!
30
وَقِيلَ لِلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوْا۟ مَاذَآ أَنزَلَ رَبُّكُمْ ۚ قَالُوا۟ خَيْرًا ۗ لِّلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا۟ فِى هَـٰذِهِ ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةٌ ۚ وَلَدَارُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ خَيْرٌ ۚ وَلَنِعْمَ دَارُ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ waqīla lilladhīnat-taqaw mādhā anzala rabbukum ۚ qālū khayrā ۗ lilladhīna aḥsanū fī hādhihid dunyā ḥasanah ۚ waladārul-ākhirati khayr ۚ walani`ma dārul muttaqīn When those who took heed for themselves would be asked: "What did your Lord send down?" They will answer: "The best." For those who do good there is good in the world, but certainly the abode of the next is better. How excellent the home of the virtuous!
31
جَنَّـٰتُ عَدْنٍ يَدْخُلُونَهَا تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۖ لَهُمْ فِيهَا مَا يَشَآءُونَ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يَجْزِى ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ jannātu `adniy yadkhulūnahā tajrī min taḥtihal-anhār ۖ lahum fīhā mā yashā-ūn ۚ kadhālika yajzillāhul muttaqīn They will enter perennial gardens with streams of water and all they wish. Thus will the pious and devout be rewarded.
32
ٱلَّذِينَ تَتَوَفَّىٰهُمُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ طَيِّبِينَ ۙ يَقُولُونَ سَلَـٰمٌ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱدْخُلُوا۟ ٱلْجَنَّةَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ alladhīna tatawaffāhumul malā-ikatu ṭayyibīna yaqūlūna salāmun `alaykumud-khulul jannata bimā kuntum ta`malūn When the angels receive the souls of those who are blameless they will say: "Peace on you. Enter Paradise as recompense for what you did."
33
هَلْ يَنظُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن تَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ أَوْ يَأْتِىَ أَمْرُ رَبِّكَ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ فَعَلَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ وَمَا ظَلَمَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ hal yanẓurūna illā an ta-tiyahumul malā-ikatu aw ya-tiya amru rabbik ۚ kadhālika fa`alal ladhīna min qablihim ۚ wa mā ẓalamahumullāhu walākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn What! Do the (unbelievers) expect that the angels should descend, or the sentence of your Lord come to pass? So had the people done before them; yet God did not wrong them, they wronged themselves.
34
فَأَصَابَهُمْ سَيِّـَٔاتُ مَا عَمِلُوا۟ وَحَاقَ بِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ fa-aṣābahum sayyi-ātu mā `amilū waḥāqa bihim mā kānū bihi yastahzi-ūn The evil they perpetrated overtook them, and what they mocked has turned upon them.
35
وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا۟ لَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ مَا عَبَدْنَا مِن دُونِهِۦ مِن شَىْءٍ نَّحْنُ وَلَآ ءَابَآؤُنَا وَلَا حَرَّمْنَا مِن دُونِهِۦ مِن شَىْءٍ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ فَعَلَ ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ فَهَلْ عَلَى ٱلرُّسُلِ إِلَّا ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ waqālal ladhīna ashrakū law shā-allāhu mā `abadnā min dūnihi min shay-in naḥnu walā ābā-unā walā ḥarramnā min dūnihi min shay-ī ۚ kadhālika fa`alal ladhīna min qablihim ۚ fahal `alar rusuli illal-balāghul mubīn The idolaters say: "If God had willed we would not have worshipped anything apart from Him, nor would our fathers have done, nor would we have forbidden any thing without His (leave)." So had the people done before them. Therefore it is binding on the prophets to convey the message in clearest terms.
36
وَلَقَدْ بَعَثْنَا فِى كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ رَّسُولًا أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَٱجْتَنِبُوا۟ ٱلطَّـٰغُوتَ ۖ فَمِنْهُم مَّنْ هَدَى ٱللَّهُ وَمِنْهُم مَّنْ حَقَّتْ عَلَيْهِ ٱلضَّلَـٰلَةُ ۚ فَسِيرُوا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ فَٱنظُرُوا۟ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَـٰقِبَةُ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ walaqad ba`athnā fī kulli ummatin rasūlan ani'-budullāha wajtanibuṭ ṭāghūt ۖ faminhum man hadallāhu wa minhum man ḥaqqat `alayhiḍ ḍalālah ۚ fasīrū fil-arḍi fanẓurū kayfa kāna `āqibatul mukadhhibīn To every community We have sent an apostle. (saying:) "Worship God, and keep away from all other deities." Thus some of them were guided by God, and ruin was justified on some. Travel over the earth and see what befell those who accused (the apostles) of lies.
37
إِن تَحْرِصْ عَلَىٰ هُدَىٰهُمْ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِى مَن يُضِلُّ ۖ وَمَا لَهُم مِّن نَّـٰصِرِينَ in taḥriṣ `alā hudāhum fa-innallāha lā yahdī man yuḍill ۖ wa mā lahum min nāṣirīn Even if you are eager to guide them, God does not surely guide those who have gone astray: They will have no one to help them.
38
وَأَقْسَمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ جَهْدَ أَيْمَـٰنِهِمْ ۙ لَا يَبْعَثُ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَمُوتُ ۚ بَلَىٰ وَعْدًا عَلَيْهِ حَقًّا وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ wa-aqsamū billāhi jahda aymānihim lā yab`athullāhu man yamūt ۚ balā wa`dan `alayhi ḥaqqan walākinna aktharan nāsi lā ya`lamūn They swear emphatically in the name of God that God will not raise the dead. On the contrary, it is a promise incumbent on Him, though most men do not understand,
39
لِيُبَيِّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى يَخْتَلِفُونَ فِيهِ وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ كَـٰذِبِينَ liyubayyina lahumul ladhī yakhtalifūna fīhi waliya`lamal ladhīna kafarū annahum kānū kādhibīn For (they fear) He might make what they differed about plain to them, and that the infidels may realise that they were liars.
40
إِنَّمَا قَوْلُنَا لِشَىْءٍ إِذَآ أَرَدْنَـٰهُ أَن نَّقُولَ لَهُۥ كُن فَيَكُونُ innamā qawlunā lishay-in idhā aradnāhu an naqūla lahu kun fayakūn Yet when We will a thing We have only to say: "Be", and it is.
41
وَٱلَّذِينَ هَاجَرُوا۟ فِى ٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا ظُلِمُوا۟ لَنُبَوِّئَنَّهُمْ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً ۖ وَلَأَجْرُ ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ يَعْلَمُونَ wal ladhīna hājarū fillāhi min ba`di mā ẓulimū lanubawwi-annahum fid dunyā ḥasanah ۖ wala-ajrul-ākhirati akbar ۚ law kānū ya`lamūn Those who left their homes in the cause of God after having been oppressed, will be given by Us a better place in the world, and if they knew, the guerdon of the next would be greater
42
ٱلَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا۟ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ alladhīna ṣabarū wa`alā rabbihim yatawakkalūn (For) those who persevere and place their trust in their Lord.
43
وَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ إِلَّا رِجَالًا نُّوحِىٓ إِلَيْهِمْ ۚ فَسْـَٔلُوٓا۟ أَهْلَ ٱلذِّكْرِ إِن كُنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ wa mā arsalnā min qablika illā rijālan nūḥī ilayhim ۚ fas-alū ahladh dhikri in kuntum lā ta`lamūn We sent before you none (as apostles) but men, to whom We sent revelations. In case you are unaware, enquire of those who are keepers of the Oracles of God.
44
بِٱلْبَيِّنَـٰتِ وَٱلزُّبُرِ ۗ وَأَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ٱلذِّكْرَ لِتُبَيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ مَا نُزِّلَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ bil bayyināti waz zubur ۗ wa-anzalnā ilaykadh dhikra litubayyina linnāsi mā nuzzila ilayhim wala`allahum yatafakkarūn We had Sent them with miracles and Books; and We have sent to you this Reminder so that you may explain distinctly to men what was sent down to them: They may haply reflect.
45
أَفَأَمِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مَكَرُوا۟ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ أَن يَخْسِفَ ٱللَّهُ بِهِمُ ٱلْأَرْضَ أَوْ يَأْتِيَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ afa-aminal ladhīna makarus sayyi-āti an yakhsifallāhu bihimul-arḍa aw ya-tiyahumul `adhābu min ḥaythu lā yash`urūn Have the plotters of mischief become unafraid that God will not split the earth to swallow them, or that punishment will not fall upon them from somewhere they do not (even) suspect?
46
أَوْ يَأْخُذَهُمْ فِى تَقَلُّبِهِمْ فَمَا هُم بِمُعْجِزِينَ aw ya-khudhahum fī taqallubihim famā hum bimu`jizīn Or that He will not seize them as they move about, and they will not be able to elude (His grasp);
47
أَوْ يَأْخُذَهُمْ عَلَىٰ تَخَوُّفٍ فَإِنَّ رَبَّكُمْ لَرَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ aw ya-khudhahum `alā takhawwufin fa-inna rabbakum lara-ūfun raḥīm Or He may seize them by diminishing their portion. Yet your Lord is compassionate and kind.
48
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ مَا خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ مِن شَىْءٍ يَتَفَيَّؤُا۟ ظِلَـٰلُهُۥ عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَٱلشَّمَآئِلِ سُجَّدًا لِّلَّهِ وَهُمْ دَٰخِرُونَ awalam yaraw ilā mā khalaqallāhu min shay-in yatafayya-u ẓilāluhu `anil yamīni wash shamā-ili sujjadal lillāhi wahum dākhirūn Do they not see the shadows of all things God has created incline to the right and the left, bowing in obeisance to God?
49
وَلِلَّهِ يَسْجُدُ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مِن دَآبَّةٍ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ وَهُمْ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ walillāhi yasjudu mā fis samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍi min dābbatin wal malā-ikatu wahum lā yastakbirūn All things that move on the earth and in the heavens, and the angels, bow in homage to God, and do not behave with pride.
50
They have fear of God for His power over them, and act as commanded.
51
وَقَالَ ٱللَّهُ لَا تَتَّخِذُوٓا۟ إِلَـٰهَيْنِ ٱثْنَيْنِ ۖ إِنَّمَا هُوَ إِلَـٰهٌ وَٰحِدٌ ۖ فَإِيَّـٰىَ فَٱرْهَبُونِ waqālallāhu lā tattakhidhū ilāhaynith-nayn ۖ innamā huwa ilāhun wāḥid ۖ fa-iyyāya farhabūn God says: "Do not take to two gods, for there is only one God. So fear Me."
52
وَلَهُۥ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَهُ ٱلدِّينُ وَاصِبًا ۚ أَفَغَيْرَ ٱللَّهِ تَتَّقُونَ walahu mā fis samāwāti wal-arḍi walahud dīnu wāṣibā ۚ afaghayrallāhi tattaqūn Whatsoever is in the heavens and the earth belongs to Him, and His the judgement for ever. So will you fear any other than God?
53
وَمَا بِكُم مِّن نِّعْمَةٍ فَمِنَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ ثُمَّ إِذَا مَسَّكُمُ ٱلضُّرُّ فَإِلَيْهِ تَجْـَٔرُونَ wa mā bikum min ni`matin faminallāh ۖ thumma idhā massakumuḍ ḍurru fa-ilayhi taj-arūn Whatsoever the blessings you enjoy are surely from God, and when in trouble you turn to Him in supplication.
54
ثُمَّ إِذَا كَشَفَ ٱلضُّرَّ عَنكُمْ إِذَا فَرِيقٌ مِّنكُم بِرَبِّهِمْ يُشْرِكُونَ thumma idhā kashafaḍ ḍurra `ankum idhā farīqun minkum birabbihim yushrikūn Yet when He has delivered you from affliction, some of you ascribe companions to your Lord
55
لِيَكْفُرُوا۟ بِمَآ ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمْ ۚ فَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ ۖ فَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ liyakfurū bimā ātaynāhum ۚ fatamatta`ū ۖ fasawfa ta`lamūn So as to deny what We have bestowed on them. Well, enjoy yourselves, you will come to know soon.
56
وَيَجْعَلُونَ لِمَا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ نَصِيبًا مِّمَّا رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْ ۗ تَٱللَّهِ لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ عَمَّا كُنتُمْ تَفْتَرُونَ wayaj`alūna limā lā ya`lamūna naṣīban mimmā razaqnāhum ۗ tallāhi latus-alunna `ammā kuntum taftarūn They set aside a portion of the food We have given them for those they do not know. By God, you will surely have to answer for all you contrive!
57
وَيَجْعَلُونَ لِلَّهِ ٱلْبَنَـٰتِ سُبْحَـٰنَهُۥ ۙ وَلَهُم مَّا يَشْتَهُونَ wayaj`alūna lillāhil banāti subḥānahu walahum mā yashtahūn They attribute daughters to God, the glorious, but for themselves whatsoever they please.
58
وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِٱلْأُنثَىٰ ظَلَّ وَجْهُهُۥ مُسْوَدًّا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ wa idhā bushhira aḥaduhum bil-unthā ẓalla wajhuhu muswaddan wahuwa kaẓīm Yet when news of the birth of a daughter reaches one of them, his face is darkened, and he is overwhelmed with silent grief,
59
يَتَوَٰرَىٰ مِنَ ٱلْقَوْمِ مِن سُوٓءِ مَا بُشِّرَ بِهِۦٓ ۚ أَيُمْسِكُهُۥ عَلَىٰ هُونٍ أَمْ يَدُسُّهُۥ فِى ٱلتُّرَابِ ۗ أَلَا سَآءَ مَا يَحْكُمُونَ yatawārā minal qawmi min sū-i mā bushhira bih ۚ ayumsikuhu `alā hūnin am yadussuhu fit turāb ۗ alā sā-a mā yaḥkumūn And hides from people for shame at the news, (at a loss) whether he should keep her with shame, or bury her in the ground. How bad is the judgement that they make!
60
لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ مَثَلُ ٱلسَّوْءِ ۖ وَلِلَّهِ ٱلْمَثَلُ ٱلْأَعْلَىٰ ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ lilladhīna lā yu-minūna bil-ākhirati mathalus saw-i ۖ walillāhil mathalul-a`lā ۚ wahuwal `azīzul ḥakīm The semblance of those who believe not in the life to come is that of the meanest; but the semblance of God is the most sublime, for He is all-mighty and all-wise.
61
وَلَوْ يُؤَاخِذُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلنَّاسَ بِظُلْمِهِم مَّا تَرَكَ عَلَيْهَا مِن دَآبَّةٍ وَلَـٰكِن يُؤَخِّرُهُمْ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٍ مُّسَمًّى ۖ فَإِذَا جَآءَ أَجَلُهُمْ لَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ سَاعَةً ۖ وَلَا يَسْتَقْدِمُونَ walaw yu-ākhidhullāhun nāsa biẓul-mihim mā taraka `alayhā min dābbatin walākin yu-akhhiruhum ilā ajalin musammā ۖ fa-idhā jā-a ajaluhum lā yasta-khirūna sā`ah ۖ walā yastaqdimūn If God were to punish men for their inequity He would not leave a single moving thing on earth. Yet He gives them latitude for a time ordained. When that time is come, there will not be a moment's delay nor a moment's haste.
62
وَيَجْعَلُونَ لِلَّهِ مَا يَكْرَهُونَ وَتَصِفُ أَلْسِنَتُهُمُ ٱلْكَذِبَ أَنَّ لَهُمُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۖ لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّ لَهُمُ ٱلنَّارَ وَأَنَّهُم مُّفْرَطُونَ wayaj`alūna lillāhi mā yakrahūna wataṣifu alsinatuhumul kadhiba anna lahumul ḥusnā ۖ lā jarama anna lahumun nāra wa-annahum mufraṭūn Yet they attribute to God what they find detestable; and their tongues assert the lie that for them is only good. On the contrary, there is Fire for them, and they will be thrown into it.
63
تَٱللَّهِ لَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَىٰٓ أُمَمٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنُ أَعْمَـٰلَهُمْ فَهُوَ وَلِيُّهُمُ ٱلْيَوْمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ tallāhi laqad arsalnā ilā umamin min qablika fazayyana lahumush shayṭānu a`mālahum fahuwa waliyyuhumul yawma walahum `adhābun alīm By God, We sent apostles to many a people before you, but Satan made their acts seem attractive to them, and he is their friend this day, and a painful torment awaits them.
64
وَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ إِلَّا لِتُبَيِّنَ لَهُمُ ٱلَّذِى ٱخْتَلَفُوا۟ فِيهِ ۙ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ wa mā anzalnā `alaykal kitāba illā litubayyina lahumul ladhikh-talafū fīhi wahudan waraḥmatan liqawmiy yu-minūn We have sent down this Book to you that you may explain to them what it is that they are differing about, and as guidance and a grace for those who believe.
65
وَٱللَّهُ أَنزَلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً فَأَحْيَا بِهِ ٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ مَوْتِهَآ ۚ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَسْمَعُونَ wallāhu anzala minas samā-i mā-an fa-aḥyā bihil-arḍa ba`da mawtihā ۚ inna fī dhālika la-āyatan liqawmiy yasma`ūn God sends down water from the skies and quickens the dead earth to a new birth. Here is a sign for those who listen.
66
وَإِنَّ لَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ لَعِبْرَةً ۖ نُّسْقِيكُم مِّمَّا فِى بُطُونِهِۦ مِنۢ بَيْنِ فَرْثٍ وَدَمٍ لَّبَنًا خَالِصًا سَآئِغًا لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ wa inna lakum fil-an`āmi la`ibrah ۖ nusqīkum mimmā fī buṭūnihi min bayni farthin wadamin labanan khāliṣan sā-ighal lishhāribīn And surely in cattle there is a lesson for you: We give you a drink from the extract of food in their bellies and blood-purest milk so delicious to drink;
67
وَمِن ثَمَرَٰتِ ٱلنَّخِيلِ وَٱلْأَعْنَـٰبِ تَتَّخِذُونَ مِنْهُ سَكَرًا وَرِزْقًا حَسَنًا ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ wa min thamarātin nakhīli wal-a`nābi tattakhidhūna minhu sakaran warizqan ḥasanā ۗ inna fī dhālika la-āyatan liqawmiy ya`qilūn And in fruits of the date-palm and the vine, from which you obtain inebriating drinks and excellent food. In this indeed are signs for those who understand.
68
وَأَوْحَىٰ رَبُّكَ إِلَى ٱلنَّحْلِ أَنِ ٱتَّخِذِى مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا وَمِنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ وَمِمَّا يَعْرِشُونَ wa-awḥā rabbuka ilan naḥli anit-takhidhī minal jibāli buyūtan wa minash shajari wa mimmā ya`rishūn Your Lord predisposed the bees to make their hives in mountains, trees and trellices,
69
ثُمَّ كُلِى مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ فَٱسْلُكِى سُبُلَ رَبِّكِ ذُلُلًا ۚ يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بُطُونِهَا شَرَابٌ مُّخْتَلِفٌ أَلْوَٰنُهُۥ فِيهِ شِفَآءٌ لِّلنَّاسِ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً لِّقَوْمٍ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ thumma kulī min kullith thamarāti faslukī subula rabbiki dhululā ۚ yakhruju min buṭūnihā sharābun mukhtalifun alwānuhu fīhi shifā-un linnās ۗ inna fī dhālika la-āyatan liqawmiy yatafakkarūn And suck from all fruits and flit about the unrestricted paths of their Lord. A drink of various hues comes out of their bellies which contains medicine for men. In this is a sign for those who reflect.
70
وَٱللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ ثُمَّ يَتَوَفَّىٰكُمْ ۚ وَمِنكُم مَّن يُرَدُّ إِلَىٰٓ أَرْذَلِ ٱلْعُمُرِ لِكَىْ لَا يَعْلَمَ بَعْدَ عِلْمٍ شَيْـًٔا ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ قَدِيرٌ wallāhu khalaqakum thumma yatawaffākum ۚ wa minkum man yuraddu ilā ardhalil `umuri likay lā ya`lama ba`da `il-min shay-ā ۚ innallāha `alīmun qadīr It is God who creates you, then makes you die; and some reach the age of dotage when they forget what they had known before. God is indeed all-knowing and all-powerful.
71
وَٱللَّهُ فَضَّلَ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فِى ٱلرِّزْقِ ۚ فَمَا ٱلَّذِينَ فُضِّلُوا۟ بِرَآدِّى رِزْقِهِمْ عَلَىٰ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْ فَهُمْ فِيهِ سَوَآءٌ ۚ أَفَبِنِعْمَةِ ٱللَّهِ يَجْحَدُونَ wallāhu faḍḍala ba`ḍakum `alā ba`ḍin fir rizq ۚ famal ladhīna fuḍḍilū birāddī rizqihim `alā mā malakat aymānuhum fahum fīhi sawā-u ۚ afabini`matil lāhi yajḥadūn God has favoured some of you over others in the means of subsistence. But those who have been favoured with more do not give of their means to their dependents so that they may become equal with them. Do they then deny God's beneficence?
72
وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَزْوَٰجِكُم بَنِينَ وَحَفَدَةً وَرَزَقَكُم مِّنَ ٱلطَّيِّبَـٰتِ ۚ أَفَبِٱلْبَـٰطِلِ يُؤْمِنُونَ وَبِنِعْمَتِ ٱللَّهِ هُمْ يَكْفُرُونَ wallāhu ja`ala lakum min anfusikum azwājan waja`ala lakum min azwājikum banīna waḥafadatan warazaqakum minaṭ ṭayyibāt ۚ afabil bāṭili yu-minūna wabini`matillāhi hum yakfurūn God has provided mates for you of your own kind, and has bestowed on you sons and daughters from your mates, and has given you good things for food. Will they even then believe in the false and deny God's grace?
73
وَيَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ مَا لَا يَمْلِكُ لَهُمْ رِزْقًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ شَيْـًٔا وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ waya`budūna min dūnillāhi mā lā yamliku lahum rizqan minas samāwāti wal-arḍi shay-an walā yastaṭī`ūn Yet they worship those apart from God who cannot provide for them any sustenance from the heavens or the earth, nor will they have power to do so.
74
فَلَا تَضْرِبُوا۟ لِلَّهِ ٱلْأَمْثَالَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ falā taḍribū lillāhil-amthāl ۚ innallāha ya`lamu wa-antum lā ta`lamūn So do not invent similitudes for God. Indeed God knows, and you do not know.
75
ضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا عَبْدًا مَّمْلُوكًا لَّا يَقْدِرُ عَلَىٰ شَىْءٍ وَمَن رَّزَقْنَـٰهُ مِنَّا رِزْقًا حَسَنًا فَهُوَ يُنفِقُ مِنْهُ سِرًّا وَجَهْرًا ۖ هَلْ يَسْتَوُۥنَ ۚ ٱلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ۚ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ḍaraballāhu mathalan `abdan mamlūkal lā yaqdiru `alā shay-in wa man razaqnāhu minnā rizqan ḥasanan fahuwa yunfiqu minhu sirran wajahrā ۖ hal yastawūn ۚ al-ḥamdu lillāh ۚ bal aktharuhum lā ya`lamūn God presents the example of a man who is a hired servant with no power over anything, and another on whom We have bestowed a handsome fortune, who spends from it in private and in public: Can they be equal? Praised be God! But most men do not understand.
76
وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا رَّجُلَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَبْكَمُ لَا يَقْدِرُ عَلَىٰ شَىْءٍ وَهُوَ كَلٌّ عَلَىٰ مَوْلَىٰهُ أَيْنَمَا يُوَجِّههُّ لَا يَأْتِ بِخَيْرٍ ۖ هَلْ يَسْتَوِى هُوَ وَمَن يَأْمُرُ بِٱلْعَدْلِ ۙ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ waḍaraballāhu mathalan rajulayni aḥaduhumā abkamu lā yaqdiru `alā shay-in wahuwa kallun `alā mawlāhu aynamā yuwajjih-hu lā ya-ti bikhayr ۖ hal yastawī huwa wa man ya-muru bil `adli wahuwa `alā ṣirāṭin mustaqīm God presents another example of two men, one dumb and unable to do a thing and is a burden on his master. Wherever he is sent he returns without any good (result). Could he be equal to one who enjoins what is just, and follows the right path?
77
وَلِلَّهِ غَيْبُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَمَآ أَمْرُ ٱلسَّاعَةِ إِلَّا كَلَمْحِ ٱلْبَصَرِ أَوْ هُوَ أَقْرَبُ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ walillāhi ghaybus samāwāti wal-arḍ ۚ wa mā amrus sā`ati illā kalamḥil baṣari aw huwa aqrab ۚ innallāha `alā kulli shay-in qadīr To God belong the secrets of the heavens and the earth, and the Hour of Doom is a matter of the winking of an eye, even less, for God has certainly power over all things.
78
وَٱللَّهُ أَخْرَجَكُم مِّنۢ بُطُونِ أُمَّهَـٰتِكُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ شَيْـًٔا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْأَبْصَـٰرَ وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۙ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ wallāhu akhrajakum min buṭūni ummahātikum lā ta`lamūna shay-an waja`ala lakumus sam`a wal-abṣāra wal-af-idata la`allakum tashkurūn God produced you from your mothers' wombs knowing nothing, but gave you ears and eyes and hearts so that you may be grateful.
79
أَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱلطَّيْرِ مُسَخَّرَٰتٍ فِى جَوِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَـٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ alam yaraw ilaṭ ṭayri musakhharātin fī jawwis samā-i mā yumsikuhunna illallāh ۗ inna fī dhālika la-āyātin liqawmiy yu-minūn Do you not see the birds held high between the heavens and the earth? Nothing holds them (aloft) but God. There are verily signs in this for those who believe.
80
وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنۢ بُيُوتِكُمْ سَكَنًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّن جُلُودِ ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِ بُيُوتًا تَسْتَخِفُّونَهَا يَوْمَ ظَعْنِكُمْ وَيَوْمَ إِقَامَتِكُمْ ۙ وَمِنْ أَصْوَافِهَا وَأَوْبَارِهَا وَأَشْعَارِهَآ أَثَـٰثًا وَمَتَـٰعًا إِلَىٰ حِينٍ wallāhu ja`ala lakum min buyūtikum sakanan waja`ala lakum min julūdil-an`āmi buyūtan tastakhiffūnahā yawma ẓa`nikum wayawma iqāmatikum wa min aṣwāfihā wa-awbārihā wa-ash`ārihā athāthan wa matā`an ilā ḥīn God has given you homes to live in, and tents (made) from the hides of cattle convenient for days of travelling and halting; and from their wool and fur and hair you make domestic articles and goods that last a certain time.
81
وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُم مِّمَّا خَلَقَ ظِلَـٰلًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ أَكْنَـٰنًا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمْ سَرَٰبِيلَ تَقِيكُمُ ٱلْحَرَّ وَسَرَٰبِيلَ تَقِيكُم بَأْسَكُمْ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُتِمُّ نِعْمَتَهُۥ عَلَيْكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُسْلِمُونَ wallāhu ja`ala lakum mimmā khalaqa ẓilālan waja`ala lakum minal jibāli aknānan waja`ala lakum sarābīla taqīkumul ḥarra wasarābīla taqīkum ba-sakum ۚ kadhālika yutimmu ni`matahu `alaykum la`allakum tuslimūn God has given you of things created, shade, and places of shelter in the mountains, and clothes for protection against the heat, and coats (of mail) for defence during war. He thus bestows His favours on you so that you may be grateful to Him.
82
فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْبَلَـٰغُ ٱلْمُبِينُ fa-in tawallaw fa-innamā `alaykal balāghul mubīn If they still turn away, your duty is to warn them in clear terms.
83
يَعْرِفُونَ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ ثُمَّ يُنكِرُونَهَا وَأَكْثَرُهُمُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ ya`rifūna ni`matallāhi thumma yunkirūnahā wa-aktharuhumul kāfirūn They do know the favours of God, and yet they deny them, for most of them are not grateful.
84
وَيَوْمَ نَبْعَثُ مِن كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ شَهِيدًا ثُمَّ لَا يُؤْذَنُ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَلَا هُمْ يُسْتَعْتَبُونَ wayawma nab`athu min kulli ummatin shahīdan thumma lā yu-dhanu lilladhīna kafarū walā hum yusta`tabūn The day We shall call a witness from every people, the unbelievers will not be allowed to make excuses.
85
وَإِذَا رَءَا ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ فَلَا يُخَفَّفُ عَنْهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنظَرُونَ wa idhā ra al ladhīna ẓalamul `adhāba falā yukhaffafu `anhum walā hum yunẓarūn And when the wicked shall face the torment it will not be decreased, nor will they be reprieved.
86
وَإِذَا رَءَا ٱلَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا۟ شُرَكَآءَهُمْ قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ شُرَكَآؤُنَا ٱلَّذِينَ كُنَّا نَدْعُوا۟ مِن دُونِكَ ۖ فَأَلْقَوْا۟ إِلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقَوْلَ إِنَّكُمْ لَكَـٰذِبُونَ wa idhā ra al ladhīna ashrakū shurakā-ahum qālū rabbanā hā-ulā-i shurakā-unal ladhīna kunnā nad`ū min dūnik ۖ fa-alqaw ilayhimul qawla innakum lakādhibūn When the idolaters see their partners they will call out: "O our Lord, these are the partners we invoked instead of You;" but they will retort: "You are liars."
87
وَأَلْقَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ يَوْمَئِذٍ ٱلسَّلَمَ ۖ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَفْتَرُونَ wa-alqaw ilallāhi yawma-idhinis salam ۖ waḍalla `anhum mā kānū yaftarūn They will offer submission to God that Day, and the lies they fabricated will not be of the least avail.
88
ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ وَصَدُّوا۟ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ زِدْنَـٰهُمْ عَذَابًا فَوْقَ ٱلْعَذَابِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يُفْسِدُونَ alladhīna kafarū waṣaddū `an sabīlillāhi zidnāhum `adhāban fawqal `adhābi bimā kānū yufsidūn For those who deny the truth and obstruct (others) from the way of God, We shall add torment to torment as they were perpetrating corruption.
89
وَيَوْمَ نَبْعَثُ فِى كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ شَهِيدًا عَلَيْهِم مِّنْ أَنفُسِهِمْ ۖ وَجِئْنَا بِكَ شَهِيدًا عَلَىٰ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ ۚ وَنَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَـٰبَ تِبْيَـٰنًا لِّكُلِّ شَىْءٍ وَهُدًى وَرَحْمَةً وَبُشْرَىٰ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ wayawma nab`athu fī kulli ummatin shahīdan `alayhim min anfusihim ۖ waji-nā bika shahīdan `alā hā-ulā-i ۚ wanazzalnā `alaykal kitāba tibyānal likulli shay-in wahudan waraḥmatan wabushrā lil-muslimīn Remind them of the Day when We shall call from every people a witness against them, and make you a witness over them, for We have revealed to you the Book as an exposition of everything, and as guidance and grace and happy tidings for those who submit.
90
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِٱلْعَدْلِ وَٱلْإِحْسَـٰنِ وَإِيتَآئِ ذِى ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ وَيَنْهَىٰ عَنِ ٱلْفَحْشَآءِ وَٱلْمُنكَرِ وَٱلْبَغْىِ ۚ يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ innallāha ya-muru bil `adli wal-iḥsāni wa-iytā-i dhil qurbā wayanhā `anil faḥshā-i wal munkari wal baghyi ۚ ya`iẓukum la`allakum tadhakkarūn Verily God has enjoined justice, the doing of good, and the giving of gifts to your relatives; and forbidden indecency, impropriety and oppression. He warns you so that you may remember.
91
وَأَوْفُوا۟ بِعَهْدِ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا عَـٰهَدتُّمْ وَلَا تَنقُضُوا۟ ٱلْأَيْمَـٰنَ بَعْدَ تَوْكِيدِهَا وَقَدْ جَعَلْتُمُ ٱللَّهَ عَلَيْكُمْ كَفِيلًا ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَفْعَلُونَ wa-awfū bi`ahdillāhi idhā `āhadtum walā tanquḍul-aymāna ba`da tawkīdihā waqad ja`altumullāha `alaykum kafīlā ۚ innallāha ya`lamu mā taf`alūn Fulfil your covenant with God, having made the covenant, and do not break your oaths once you have sworn them, as you have made God a witness over you. Indeed God knows what you do.
92
وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ كَٱلَّتِى نَقَضَتْ غَزْلَهَا مِنۢ بَعْدِ قُوَّةٍ أَنكَـٰثًا تَتَّخِذُونَ أَيْمَـٰنَكُمْ دَخَلًۢا بَيْنَكُمْ أَن تَكُونَ أُمَّةٌ هِىَ أَرْبَىٰ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ ۚ إِنَّمَا يَبْلُوكُمُ ٱللَّهُ بِهِۦ ۚ وَلَيُبَيِّنَنَّ لَكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ مَا كُنتُمْ فِيهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَ walā takūnū kal latī naqaḍat ghazlahā min ba`di quwwatin ankāthan tattakhidhūna aymānakum dakhalan baynakum an takūna ummatun hiya arbā min ummah ۚ innamā yablūkumullāhu bih ۚ walayubayyinanna lakum yawmal qiyāmati mā kuntum fīhi takhtalifūn And do not be like her who untwists her yarn having spun it into durable thread. Do not use your oaths deceitfully because one party has ascendency over you. God surely tries you in this way: He will make it clear to you on the Day of Resurrection what you were differing about.
93
وَلَوْ شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ لَجَعَلَكُمْ أُمَّةً وَٰحِدَةً وَلَـٰكِن يُضِلُّ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَلَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ عَمَّا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ walaw shā-allāhu laja`alakum ummatan wāḥidatan walākin yuḍillu man yashā-u wayahdī man yashā-u ۚ walatus-alunna `ammā kuntum ta`malūn If God had pleased He would surely have made you a single community of belief; but He leads whosoever He wills astray, and guides whosoever He please. But you will surely be questioned about what you used to do.
94
وَلَا تَتَّخِذُوٓا۟ أَيْمَـٰنَكُمْ دَخَلًۢا بَيْنَكُمْ فَتَزِلَّ قَدَمٌۢ بَعْدَ ثُبُوتِهَا وَتَذُوقُوا۟ ٱلسُّوٓءَ بِمَا صَدَدتُّمْ عَن سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَلَكُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ walā tattakhidhū aymānakum dakhalan baynakum fatazilla qadamun ba`da thubūtihā watadhūqus sū a bimā ṣadadtum `an sabīlillāh ۖ walakum `adhābun `aẓīm So do not make your oaths a means of deceiving one another, lest your foot should slip after having found its hold, and you taste of evil for having hindered (others) from the way of God, and suffer a grievous punishment.
95
وَلَا تَشْتَرُوا۟ بِعَهْدِ ٱللَّهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ walā tashtarū bi`ahdillāhi thamanan qalīlā ۚ innamā `indallāhi huwa khayrul lakum in kuntum ta`lamūn And do not trade God's covenant for a paltry price. Remember, what is with God is better for you, if only you knew!
96
مَا عِندَكُمْ يَنفَدُ ۖ وَمَا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ بَاقٍ ۗ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ صَبَرُوٓا۟ أَجْرَهُم بِأَحْسَنِ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ mā `indakum yanfad ۖ wa mā `indallāhi bāq ۗ walanajziyannal ladhīna ṣabarū ajrahum bi-aḥsani mā kānū ya`malūn For what you possess will pass, but what is with God will abide. We shall certainly award those who persevere a recompense in keeping with their deeds.
97
مَنْ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَلَنُحْيِيَنَّهُۥ حَيَوٰةً طَيِّبَةً ۖ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْرَهُم بِأَحْسَنِ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ man `amila ṣāliḥan min dhakarin aw unthā wahuwa mu-minun falanuḥyiyannahu ḥayātan ṭayyibah ۖ walanajziyannahum ajrahum bi-aḥsani mā kānū ya`malūn We shall invest whosoever works for good, whether man or woman, with a pleasant life, and reward them in accordance with the best of what they have done.
98
فَإِذَا قَرَأْتَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ فَٱسْتَعِذْ بِٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ fa-idhā qara-tal qur-āna fasta`idh billāhi minash shayṭānir rajīm So, when you recite the Qur'an seek refuge in God from Satan the execrable.
99
إِنَّهُۥ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ سُلْطَـٰنٌ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ innahu laysa lahu sulṭānun `alal ladhīna āmanū wa`alā rabbihim yatawakkalūn He does not have power over those who believe and place their trust in their Lord.
100
إِنَّمَا سُلْطَـٰنُهُۥ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ يَتَوَلَّوْنَهُۥ وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِهِۦ مُشْرِكُونَ innamā sulṭānuhu `alal ladhīna yatawallawnahu wal ladhīna hum bihi mushrikūn His power is only over those who take him as their patron, and those who ascribe equals (to God).
101
وَإِذَا بَدَّلْنَآ ءَايَةً مَّكَانَ ءَايَةٍ ۙ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُنَزِّلُ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُفْتَرٍۭ ۚ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ wa idhā baddalnā āyatan makāna āyatin wallāhu a`lamu bimā yunazzilu qālū innamā anta muftar ۚ bal aktharuhum lā ya`lamūn When We replace a message with another -- and God knows best what He reveals -- they say: "You have made it up;" yet most of them do not know.
102
قُلْ نَزَّلَهُۥ رُوحُ ٱلْقُدُسِ مِن رَّبِّكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ لِيُثَبِّتَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَهُدًى وَبُشْرَىٰ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ qul nazzalahu rūḥul qudusi min rabbika bil ḥaqqi liyuthabbital ladhīna āmanū wahudan wabushrā lil-muslimīn You say: "It has been sent by divine grace from your Lord with truth to strengthen those who believe, and as guidance and good news for those who have submitted (to God)."
103
وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ إِنَّمَا يُعَلِّمُهُۥ بَشَرٌ ۗ لِّسَانُ ٱلَّذِى يُلْحِدُونَ إِلَيْهِ أَعْجَمِىٌّ وَهَـٰذَا لِسَانٌ عَرَبِىٌّ مُّبِينٌ walaqad na`lamu annahum yaqūlūna innamā yu`allimuhu bashar ۗ lisānul ladhī yulḥidūna ilayhi a`jamiyyun wahādhā lisānun `arabiyyun mubīn Yet We know what they say: "It is only a man who instructs him." The speech of the man they imply is obscure while this is clear Arabic.
104
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ لَا يَهْدِيهِمُ ٱللَّهُ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ innal ladhīna lā yu-minūna bi-āyātillāhi lā yahdīhimullāhu walahum `adhābun alīm Those who do not believe in the words of God are verily not guided by God. For them is severe punishment.
105
إِنَّمَا يَفْتَرِى ٱلْكَذِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِـَٔايَـٰتِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْكَـٰذِبُونَ innamā yaftaril kadhibal ladhīna lā yu-minūna bi-āyātillāh ۖ wa-ulā-ika humul kādhibūn They alone invent lies who do not believe in the words of God, and they are liars.
106
مَن كَفَرَ بِٱللَّهِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ إِيمَـٰنِهِۦٓ إِلَّا مَنْ أُكْرِهَ وَقَلْبُهُۥ مُطْمَئِنٌّۢ بِٱلْإِيمَـٰنِ وَلَـٰكِن مَّن شَرَحَ بِٱلْكُفْرِ صَدْرًا فَعَلَيْهِمْ غَضَبٌ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ man kafara billāhi min ba`di-iymānihi illā man ukriha waqalbuhu muṭma-innun bil-iymāni walākin man sharaḥa bil kufri ṣadran fa`alayhim ghaḍabun minallāhi walahum `adhābun `aẓīm Whosoever denies having once believed -- unless he is forced to do so while his heart enjoys the peace of faith -- and opens his mind to disbelief will suffer the wrath of God. Their punishment will be great,
107
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمُ ٱسْتَحَبُّوا۟ ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ ٱلدُّنْيَا عَلَى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ dhālika bi-annahumus taḥabbul ḥayātad dunyā `alal-ākhirati wa-annallāha lā yahdil qawmal kāfirīn For they loved the life of this world more than the life to come; and God does not guide those who do not believe.
108
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلَّذِينَ طَبَعَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِمْ وَسَمْعِهِمْ وَأَبْصَـٰرِهِمْ ۖ وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْغَـٰفِلُونَ ulā-ikal ladhīna ṭaba`allāhu `alā qulūbihim wasam`ihim wa-abṣārihim ۖ wa-ulā-ika humul ghāfilūn They are the ones whose hearts and ears and eyes have been sealed by God; and these are the heedless.
109
لَا جَرَمَ أَنَّهُمْ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ هُمُ ٱلْخَـٰسِرُونَ lā jarama annahum fil-ākhirati humul khāsirūn They will surely be losers in the life to come,
110
ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لِلَّذِينَ هَاجَرُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا فُتِنُوا۟ ثُمَّ جَـٰهَدُوا۟ وَصَبَرُوٓا۟ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهَا لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ thumma inna rabbaka lilladhīna hājarū min ba`di mā futinū thumma jāhadū waṣabarū inna rabbaka min ba`dihā laghafūrun raḥīm But (to) those who were victimised and left their homes and then fought and endured patiently, your Lord will surely be forgiving and kind.
111
يَوْمَ تَأْتِى كُلُّ نَفْسٍ تُجَـٰدِلُ عَن نَّفْسِهَا وَتُوَفَّىٰ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا عَمِلَتْ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ yawma ta-tī kullu nafsin tujādilu `an nafsihā watuwaffā kullu nafsin mā `amilat wahum lā yuẓlamūn On the day when every soul will come pleading for itself, and every soul will be recompensed for what it had done, no one will be wronged.
112
وَضَرَبَ ٱللَّهُ مَثَلًا قَرْيَةً كَانَتْ ءَامِنَةً مُّطْمَئِنَّةً يَأْتِيهَا رِزْقُهَا رَغَدًا مِّن كُلِّ مَكَانٍ فَكَفَرَتْ بِأَنْعُمِ ٱللَّهِ فَأَذَٰقَهَا ٱللَّهُ لِبَاسَ ٱلْجُوعِ وَٱلْخَوْفِ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَصْنَعُونَ waḍaraballāhu mathalan qaryatan kānat āminatan muṭma-innatan ya-tīhā rizquhā raghadan min kulli makānin fakafarat bi-an`umillāhi fa-adhāqahallāhu libāsal jū`i wal khawfi bimā kānū yaṣna`ūn God presents the example of a town which enjoyed peace and security, its provisions coming from everywhere in abundance, but it denied the favours of God; so God acquainted it with intimate hunger and fear (as punishment) for what they had done.
113
وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ وَهُمْ ظَـٰلِمُونَ walaqad jā-ahum rasūlun minhum fakadhhabūhu fa-akhadhahumul `adhābu wahum ẓālimūn An apostle came to them who was one of them, but they called him a liar. Then they were seized by torment for they were sinners.
114
فَكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ ٱللَّهُ حَلَـٰلًا طَيِّبًا وَٱشْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ إِن كُنتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ fakulū mimmā razaqakumullāhu ḥalālan ṭayyiban washkurū ni`matallāhi in kuntum iyyāhu ta`budūn Eat the good and lawful of things that God has given you, and be grateful for the bounty of God, if you really worship Him.
115
إِنَّمَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمُ ٱلْمَيْتَةَ وَٱلدَّمَ وَلَحْمَ ٱلْخِنزِيرِ وَمَآ أُهِلَّ لِغَيْرِ ٱللَّهِ بِهِۦ ۖ فَمَنِ ٱضْطُرَّ غَيْرَ بَاغٍ وَلَا عَادٍ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ innamā ḥarrama `alaykumul maytata wad dama walaḥmal khinzīri wa mā uhilla lighayrillāhi bih ۖ famaniḍ-ṭurra ghayra bāghin walā `ādin fa-innallāha ghafūrun raḥīm He has forbidden carrion and blood and the flesh of the swine, and what has been killed in the name of any other but God; but if one is driven by necessity (to eat it) without craving or reverting to it, then God is forgiving and kind.
116
وَلَا تَقُولُوا۟ لِمَا تَصِفُ أَلْسِنَتُكُمُ ٱلْكَذِبَ هَـٰذَا حَلَـٰلٌ وَهَـٰذَا حَرَامٌ لِّتَفْتَرُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ ۚ إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَفْتَرُونَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ٱلْكَذِبَ لَا يُفْلِحُونَ walā taqūlū limā taṣifu alsinatukumul kadhiba hādhā ḥalālun wahādhā ḥarāmul litaftarū `alallāhil kadhib ۚ innal ladhīna yaftarūna `alallāhil kadhiba lā yufliḥūn Do not utter the lies your tongues make up: "This is lawful, and this is forbidden," in order to impute lies to God; for they who impute lies to God will not find fulfilment.
117
مَتَـٰعٌ قَلِيلٌ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ matā`un qalīlun walahum `adhābun alīm For them there is some enjoyment, but the punishment is painful.
118
وَعَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ هَادُوا۟ حَرَّمْنَا مَا قَصَصْنَا عَلَيْكَ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ وَمَا ظَلَمْنَـٰهُمْ وَلَـٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ wa`alal ladhīna hādū ḥarramnā mā qaṣaṣnā `alayka min qabl ۖ wa mā ẓalamnāhum walākin kānū anfusahum yaẓlimūn We have already told you what We have forbidden the Jews. We did not wrong them, they wronged themselves.
119
ثُمَّ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لِلَّذِينَ عَمِلُوا۟ ٱلسُّوٓءَ بِجَهَـٰلَةٍ ثُمَّ تَابُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ وَأَصْلَحُوٓا۟ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهَا لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ thumma inna rabbaka lilladhīna `amilus sū a bijahālatin thumma tābū min ba`di dhālika wa-aṣlaḥū inna rabbaka min ba`dihā laghafūrun raḥīm To those who do wrong out of ignorance, then repent and correct themselves, your Lord is indeed forgiving and kind.
120
إِنَّ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ كَانَ أُمَّةً قَانِتًا لِّلَّهِ حَنِيفًا وَلَمْ يَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ inna ibrāhīma kāna ummatan qānital lillāhi ḥanīfan walam yaku minal mushrikīn Abraham was certainly a model of faith, obedient to God and upright, and not one of idolaters,
121
شَاكِرًا لِّأَنْعُمِهِ ۚ ٱجْتَبَىٰهُ وَهَدَىٰهُ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍ مُّسْتَقِيمٍ shākiral li-an`umih ۚ ij-tabāhu wahadāhu ilā ṣirāṭin mustaqīm Grateful to Him for His favours; so He chose him and guided him to the path that is straight,
122
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُ فِى ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً ۖ وَإِنَّهُۥ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِ لَمِنَ ٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ wa-ātaynāhu fid dunyā ḥasanah ۖ wa innahu fil-ākhirati laminaṣ ṣāliḥīn And gave him what is good in the world, and in the Hereafter he will be among the righteous and the good.
123
ثُمَّ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ أَنِ ٱتَّبِعْ مِلَّةَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ حَنِيفًا ۖ وَمَا كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ thumma awḥaynā ilayka anit-tabi` millata ibrāhīma ḥanīfā ۖ wa mā kāna minal mushrikīn So We commanded you to follow the way of Abraham the upright who was not of idolaters.
124
إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ ٱلسَّبْتُ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ ٱخْتَلَفُوا۟ فِيهِ ۚ وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَيَحْكُمُ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ فِيمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ innamā ju`ilas sabtu `alal ladhīnakh-talafū fīh ۚ wa inna rabbaka layaḥkumu baynahum yawmal qiyāmati fīmā kānū fīhi yakhtalifūn As for the Sabbath, it was imposed on those who had differed about it; and your Lord will tell them on the Day of Resurrection what it was they had differed about.
125
ٱدْعُ إِلَىٰ سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِٱلْحِكْمَةِ وَٱلْمَوْعِظَةِ ٱلْحَسَنَةِ ۖ وَجَـٰدِلْهُم بِٱلَّتِى هِىَ أَحْسَنُ ۚ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَن ضَلَّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ ۖ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ ud-`u ilā sabīli rabbika bil ḥikmati wal maw`iẓatil ḥasanah ۖ wajādilhum bil latī hiya aḥsan ۚ inna rabbaka huwa a`lamu biman ḍalla `an sabīlih ۖ wahuwa a`lamu bil muhtadīn Call them to the path of your Lord with wisdom and words of good advice; and reason with them in the best way possible. Your Lord surely knows who strays from His path, and He knows those who are guided the right way.
126
وَإِنْ عَاقَبْتُمْ فَعَاقِبُوا۟ بِمِثْلِ مَا عُوقِبْتُم بِهِۦ ۖ وَلَئِن صَبَرْتُمْ لَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لِّلصَّـٰبِرِينَ wa in `āqabtum fa`āqibū bimithli mā `ūqibtum bih ۖ wala-in ṣabartum lahuwa khayrul lilṣṣābirīn If you have to retaliate, do so to the extent you have been injured; but if you forbear it is best for those who bear with fortitude.
127
وَٱصْبِرْ وَمَا صَبْرُكَ إِلَّا بِٱللَّهِ ۚ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا تَكُ فِى ضَيْقٍ مِّمَّا يَمْكُرُونَ waṣbir wa mā ṣabruka illā billāh ۚ walā taḥzan `alayhim walā taku fī ḍayqin mimmā yamkurūn Endure with patience, for your endurance is not without the help of God. Do not grieve for them, and do not be distressed by their plots.
128
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱتَّقَوا۟ وَّٱلَّذِينَ هُم مُّحْسِنُونَ innallāha ma`al ladhīnat-taqaw wal ladhīna hum muḥsinūn God is verily with those who are pious and devout, and those who are doers of good.
