اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَى الْبَابِ الْاَقْصَدِ
as salāmu `alal bābil aqṣad
Peace be upon the most straight door (to true guidance),
وَالطَّرِيقِ الْاَرْشَدِ
waṭ ṭarīqil ar-shad
the most upright path,
وَالْعَالِمِ الْمُؤَيَّدِ
wal`ālimil mu-ayyad
the Divinely supported knower,
يُنْبُوعِ الْحِكَمِ
yunbū`il ḥikam
the spring of wisdoms,
وَمِصْبَاحِ الظُّلَمِ
wamiṣbāḥiẓ ẓulam
the lantern in darkness,
سَيِّدِ الْعَرَبِ وَالْعَجَمِ
sayyidil `arabi wal`ajam
the chief of Arabs and non-Arabs,
اَلْهَادِيْ إِلَى الرَّشَادِ
al hādī ilar rashād
the guide to orthodoxy,
اَلْمُوَفَّقِ بِالتَّأْيِيدِ وَالسَّدَادِ
al muwaffaqi bitta-yīdi was sadād
and the granted success by means of support and leading to trueness;
مَوْلَايَ أَبِيْ جَعْفَرٍ
mawlāya abī ja`far
my master Abu-Ja`far
مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْجَوَادِ
muḥammadibni `aliyyinal jawād
Muhammad the son of `Ali the Magnanimous.
أَشْهَدُ يَا وَلِيَّ اللَّهِ
ash-hadu yā waliyyallāh
I bear witness that you are the intimate servant of Allah;
أَنَّكَ أَقَمْتَ الصَّلاَةَ
annaka aqamtaṣ ṣalāh
you performed the prayers,
وَ آتَيْتَ الزَّكَاةَ
wa ātaytaz zakāh
defrayed the poor-rate,
وَأَمَرْتَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
wa-amar-ta bil ma`rūf
enjoined the right,
وَنَهَيْتَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ
wanahayta `anil munkar
forbade the wrong,
وَجَاهَدْتَ فِيْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ حَقَّ جِهَادِهِ
wajāhadta fī sabīlillāhi ḥaqqa jihādih
strove in the way of Allah as exactly as strife should be,
وَعَبَدْتَ اللَّهَ مُخْلِصًا حَتَّىٰ أَتَاكَ الْيَقِينُ
wa`abadtallāha mukhliṣan ḥattā atākal yaqīn
and served Allah sincerely until death came upon you.
فَعِشْتَ سَعِيدًا
fa`ishta sa`īdā
So, you lived happily
وَمَضَيْتَ شَهِيدًا
wamaḍayta shahīdā
and passed away as martyr.
يَا لَيْتَنِيْ كُنْتُ مَعَكُمْ
yā laytanī kuntu ma`akum
Would that I were with you,
فَأَفُوزَ فَوْزًا عَظِيمًا
fa-afūza fawzan `aẓīmā
then should I achieve a great success.
وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ
waraḥmatullāhi wabarakātuh
Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you.
