بِسْمِ اللَّـهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm
In the Name of Allāh, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
allāhumma ṣalli `alā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad
O' Allāh send Your blessings on Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.

يَا مَنْ أَرْجُوهُ لِكُلِّ خَيْرٍ
yā man ar-jūhu likulli khayr
O He from whom I hope for every good
2
وَ آمَنُ سَخَطَهُ عِنْدَ كُلِّ شَرٍّ
wa āmanu sakhaṭahu `inda kulli sharr
and seek safety from His displeasure in the face of every evil!
3
يَا مَنْ يُعْطِيْ الْكَثِيرَ بِالْقَلِيلِ
yā man yu`ṭil kathīra bil qalīl
O He who gives abundantly for that which is trivial!
4
يَا مَنْ يُعْطِيْ مَنْ سَأَلَهُ
yā man yu`ṭī man sa-alah
O He who grants to whomever requests Him!
5
يَا مَنْ يُعْطِيْ مَنْ لَمْ يَسْأَلْهُ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَعْرِفْهُ
yā man yu`ṭī man lam yas-alhu waman lam ya`rifh
O He Who gives those who do not ask Him and do not recognize Him
6
تَحَنُّنًا مِنْهُ وَرَحْمَةً
taḥannunan minhu waraḥmah
out of His kindness and mercifulness!
7
أَعْطِنِيْ بِمَسْأَلَتِيْ إِيَّاكَ جَمِيعَ خَيْرِ الدُّنْيَا
a`ṭinī bimas-alatī iyyāka jamī`a khayrid dunyā
[Please do] give me, by virtue of my petition to You, all the welfare of the world
8
وَجَمِيعَ خَيْرِ الْآخِرَةِ
wajamī`a khayril-ākhirah
and all the welfare of the Hereafter
9
وَاصْرِفْ عَنِّيْ بِمَسْأَلَتِيْ إِيَّاكَ
waṣrif `annī bimas-alatī iyyāk
and save me, by virtue of my petition to You,
10
جَمِيعَ شَرِّ الدُّنْيَا وَشَرِّ الْآخِرَةِ
jamī`a sharrid dunyā washarril-ākhirah
all the evil of the world and the evil of the Hereafter
11
فَإِنَّهُ غَيْرُ مَنْقُوصٍ مَا أَعْطَيْتَ
fa-innahu ghayru manqūṣin mā a`ṭayt
For most certainly, what You give is not deficient
12
وَزِدْنِيْ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ يَا كَرِيمُ
wazidnī min faḍlika yā karīm
and increase for me out of Your grace, O All-munificient One!
Imam al-Sadiq [peace be upon him] then grasped his beard with his left hand, while saying this prayer, and moved ceaselessly the forefinger of his right hand:

يَا ذَا الْجَلالِ وَالْاِكْرَامِ
yā dhal jalāli wal-ikrām
O Majestic and Munificent One!
14
يَا ذَا النَّعْمَاءِ وَالْجُودِ
yā dhan na`mā-i waljūd
O All generous Bestower of blessings!
15
يَا ذَا الْمَنِّ وَالطَّوْلِ
yā dhal manni waṭ ṭawl
O Dispenser of favours and bounties!
16
حَرِّمْ شَيْبَتِيْ عَلَى النَّارِ
ḥarrim shaybatī `alan nār
[Please do] forbid [save] my white-hair beard from the Hellfire.
