bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm
In the Name of Allāh, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
allāhumma ṣalli `alā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad
O' Allāh send Your blessings on Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
1
ilahī ghārat nujūmu samā-ik
My God, the stars of Your sky have sunk
2
wa nāmat `uyūnu anāmik
and the eyes of Your people are sleeping
3
wa hada-at aṣwātu `ibādika wa an`āmik
and the voices of Your servants and Your animals have become silent
4
wa ghallaqatil mulūku `alayhā abwābahā
and the kings have locked their doors
5
wa ṭāfa `alayhā ḥurrāsuhā
and its guards are moving around it
6
waḥtajabū `amman yas-aluhum ḥājah
and they are covered from he who wishes to ask them for a need
7
aw yantaji`u minhum fā-idah
or to get a benefit from them
8
wa anta ilāhī ḥayyun qayyūm
but You my God, are Ever Living, Subsistent,
9
lā takhudhuka sinatun wa lā nawm
slumber or sleep does not overtake you [2:255]
10
wa lā yashghaluka shay-un `an shay
and one thing does not occupy You from another
11
abwābu samā-ika liman da`āka mufattaḥāt
the doors of Your sky are open for he who asks You
12
wa khazā-inuka ghayru mughallaqāt
and Your treasures are never locked
13
wa abwābu raḥmatika ghayru maḥjūbāt
and the doors of Your mercy are never covered
14
wa fawā-iduka liman sa-alaka ghayru maḥẓūrāt
and Your benefits are never forbidden for he who asks You
15
bal hiya mabdhūlāt
rather they are given generously.
16
anta ilāhī alkarīm
You are my God, the Generous
17
al ladhī lā taruddu sā-ilan minal mu-minīna sa-alak
who does not turn away a beseecher who asks from You
18
wa lā taḥtajibu `an aḥadin minhum arādak
and You do not conceal Yourself from anyone of the believers who intends You.
19
lā wa `izzatika wa jalālik
No, by Your Honor and Your Majesty
20
wa lā tukhtazalu ḥawā-ijahum dūnak
no one removes their needs other than You
21
wa lā yaqḍīhā aḥadun ghayruk
and no one fulfills their needs apart from You.
22
allāhumma wa qad tarānī wa wuqūfī
O Allah You see me, and my standing [before You]
23
wa dhulla maqāmī bayna yadayk
and my humble position in front of You
24
wa ta`lamu sarīratī
and You know my secrets
25
wa taṭṭali`u `alā mā fī qalbī
and are aware of what is in my heart
26
wa mā yaṣliḥu bihi amru-ākhiratī wa dunyāy
and of what will improve my affairs of the Hereafter and the world.
27
allāhumma inna dhikral mawt
O Allah, the remembrance of death
28
wa ahwālil muṭṭali`
and the frightening conditions of the observer
29
walwuqūfa bayna yadayk
and standing before You
30
naghhaṣanī maṭ`amī wa mashrabī
makes me stay away from my food and drink
31
wa aghaṣṣanī birīqī aqlaqanī `an wisādī
and makes me choke, keeps me away from my pillow
32
wa mana`anī ruqādī
and prevents me from sleeping.
33
kayfa yanāmu man yakhāfu malakal mawt
How can one sleep who fears the angel of death?
34
fī ṭawāriqil layli wa ṭawāriqin nahār
in the calamities of the night and the calamities of the day
35
bal kayfa yanāmul `āqilu wa malakul mawti lā yanām
rather how can an intelligent person sleep while the angel of death does not sleep
36
lā billayli wa lā binnahār
neither at night nor in the day
37
wa yaṭlubu rūḥahu bil bayāt
and seeks his soul in the state of sleep
38
wa fī-ānā-is sā`āt
and in the middle of the hours
39
as-ālukar rawḥa war rāḥata `indal mawt
I beseech You to give me ease and comfort at the time of death
40
wal `afwa `annī ḥīna alqāk
and forgiveness when I meet You
