bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm
In the Name of Allāh, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.
allāhumma ṣalli `alā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad
O' Allāh send Your blessings on Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.
1
unā jīka yā mawjūdan fī kulli makān
I whisper unto You O One Who is present in every place
2
la`allaka tasma`u nidā-ī
So that you may hear my call
3
faqad `aẓuma jur-mī waqalla ḥayā-ī
for surely my sin is excessive and my shame is less
4
mawlāya yā mawlāy
My Master, O my Master
5
ayyal ahwāli atadhakkaru wa ayyahā ansā
which of the terrifying states shall I remember and which of them shall I forget
6
wa law lam yakun illal mawtu lakafā
for if there was nothing except death it would be enough
7
kayfa wa mā ba`dal mawti a`ẓamu wa ad-hā
then what about after death greater and much worse?
8
mawlāya yā mawlāya ḥattā matā wa ilā matā
My master O my Master up to when and till when will I say,
9
aqūlu lakal `utbā marratan ba`da ukhrā
I am to blame, again and again,
10
thumma lātajidu `indī ṣidqan wa lā wafā-ā
but then You do not find any truth or loyalty in me?
11
fayā ghawthāhu thumma wāghawthāhu bika yā allāh
I call for help and I call for help, O Allah
12
min hawā qad ghalabanī
from desires which have overpowered me
13
wa min `aduwwin qad istaklaba `alayy
and from the enemy which has pounced on me
14
wa min dunyan qad tazayyanat lī
and from the world which attracts me
15
wa min nafsin ammāratin bissū-in illā mā raḥima rabbī
and from the soul that leads towards evil except that on which my Lord has mercy [12:53]
16
mawlāya yā mawlāy
My master O my master
17
in kunta raḥimta mithlī far-ḥamnī
if You have had mercy on the likes of me then have mercy on me
18
wa in kunta qabilta mithlī faqbalnī
and if You have accepted from the likes of me then accept from me
19
yā qābilas saḥaratiqbalnī
O One Who accepts the early morning prayer accept me,
20
yā man lam azal ata`arrafu minhul ḥusnā
O One who, I still know only good from Him
21
yā man yughadhhīnī bin na`ami ṣabāḥan wa masā-ā
O One who nourishes me with blessings morning and evening
22
ir-ḥamnī yawma-ātīka far-dā
have mercy on me when I come to You alone,
23
shākhiṣan ilayka baṣarī muqallidan `amalī
my glance fixed on You my actions carried on my neck
24
qad tabarra-a jamī`ul khalqi minnī
When all of creation will withdraw away from me
25
na`am wa abī wa ummī wa man kāna lahu kaddī wa sa`yī
yes, even my father and mother and those for whom I worked and struggled
26
fa-in lam tar-ḥamnī faman yar-ḥamunī
then if You will not have mercy on me who will have mercy on me
27
waman yu-nisu fil qabri waḥshatī
who will give me solace from the loneliness of the grave
28
wa man yunṭiqu lisānī idhā khalawtu bi`amalī
and who will make me speak when I am alone with my deeds
29
wa sa-altanī `ammā anta a`lamu bihi minnī
and when You will ask me about what You know better than me?
30
fa-in qultu na`am fa-aynal mahrabu min `adlik
Then if I say yes [to my sins] where will be the escape from Your Justice?
31
wa in qultu lam af`al
And if I say I did not commit it
32
qulta alam akunish shāhida `alayk
You will say was I not a witness over you?
33
fa`afwaka `afwaka yā mawlāya qabla sarābīlil qaṭirān
So [I beseech] Your Forgiveness Your Pardon O my master before the wearing of the clothes of Hell
34
`afwaka `afwaka yā mawlāya qabla jahannama wan nīrān
Your Forgiveness Your Pardon O my Master before the Hell and the Fire
35
`afwaka `afwaka yā mawlāy
Your Forgiveness Your Forgiveness O my Master
36
qabla an tughallal aydī ilal a`nāq
before the hands are tied to the necks
37
yā ar-ḥamar rāḥimīna wa khayril ghāfirīn
O the most Merciful and the best of Forgivers
