بِسْمِ اللَّـهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
allāhumma ṣalli `alā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad
O Allah, send Your blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad
1
إِلٰهِيْ إِلَيْكَ أَشْكُوْ نَفْسًا
ilāhī ilayka ashkū nafsā
My God, to You I complain of a soul
2
بِالسُّوءِ أَمَّارَةً
bissū-i ammārah
That constantly commands evil
3
وَإِلَى الْخَطِيئَةِ مُبَادِرَةً
wa-ilal khaṭī-ati mubādirah
And hastens towards sin
4
وَبِمَعَاصِيكَ مُولَعَةً
wabima`āṣīka mūla`ah
And is infatuated with disobeying You
5
وَلِسَخَطِكَ مُتَعَرِّضَةً
walisakhaṭika muta`arriḍah
And exposes itself to Your wrath
6
تَسْلُكَ بِيْ مَسَالِكَ الْمَهَالِكِ
tasluka bī masālikal mahālik
It leads me on paths of destruction
7
وَتَجْعَلُنِيْ عِنْدَكَ أَهْوَنَ هَالِكٍ
wataj`alunī `indaka ahwana hālik
And makes me the most insignificant of those who perish in Your sight
8
كَثيرَةَ الْعِلَلِ
kathiratal `ilal
Full of excuses
9
طَوِيْلَةَ الْأَمَلِ
ṭawīlatal amal
With distant hopes
10
إِنْ مَسَّهَا الشَّرُّ تَجْزَعْ
in massahash sharru tajza`
If evil touches it, it becomes anxious
11
وَإِنْ مَسَّهَا الْخَيْرُ تَمْنَعْ
wa-in massahal khayru tamna`
And if good touches it, it becomes withholding
12
مَيَّالَةً إِلَى اللَّعِبِ وَاللَّهْوِ
mayyālatan ilal la`ibi wallāhw
Inclined towards play and amusement
13
مَمْلُوءَةً بِالْغَفْلَةِ وَالسَّهْوِ
mamlū-atan bil ghaflati was sahw
Filled with heedlessness and forgetfulness
14
تُسْرِعُ بِيْ إِلَى الْحَوْبَةِ
tusri`u bī ilal ḥawbah
It hastens me towards sin
15
وَتُسَوِّفُنِيْ بِالتَّوْبَةِ
watusawwifunī bittawbah
And delays me in repentance
16
إِلٰهِيْ أَشْكُوْ إِلَيْكَ
ilāhī ashkū ilayk
My God, I complain to You
17
عَدُوًّا يُضِلُّنِي
`aduwwan yuḍillunī
Of an enemy that misleads me
18
وَشَيْطَانًا يُغْوِيْنِي
washayṭānan yughwīnī
And a devil that tempts me
19
قَدْ مَلَأَ بِالْوَسْوَاسِ صَدْرِيْ
qad mala-a bil waswāsi ṣadrī
He has filled my chest with whispers
20
وَأَحَاطَتْ هَوَاجِسُهُ بِقَلْبِي
wa-aḥāṭat hawājisuhu biqalbī
And his obsessions have surrounded my heart
21
يُعَاضِدُ لِيَ الْهَوَىٰ
yu`āḍidu liyal hawā
He supports my desires
22
وَيُزَيِّنُ لِيْ حُبَّ الدُّنْيَا
wayuzayyinu lī ḥubbad dunyā
And beautifies for me the love of this world
23
وَيَحُولُ بَيْنِيْ وَبَيْنَ الطَّاعَةِ وَالزُّلْفَىٰ
wayaḥūlu baynī wabaynaṭ ṭā`ati waz zulfā
And stands between me and obedience and nearness to You
24
إِلٰهِيْ إِلَيْكَ أَشْكُو
ilāhī ilayka ashkū
My God, to You I complain
25
قَلْبًا قَاسِيًا
qalban qāsiyā
Of a hardened heart
26
مَعَ الْوَسْوَاسِ مُتَقَلِّبًا
ma`al waswāsi mutaqallibā
Fluctuating with whispers
27
وَبِالرَّيْنِ وَالطَّبْعِ مُتَلَبِّسًا
wabirrayni waṭ ṭab`i mutalabbisā
Clothed in rust and impurity
28
وَعَيْنًا عَنِ الْبُكَاءِ مِنْ خَوْفِكَ جَامِدَةً
wa`aynan `anil bukā-i min khawfika jāmidah
And eyes that do not shed tears from fear of You
29
وَإِلَى مَا تَسُرُّهَا طَامِحَةً
wa-ilā mā tasurruhā ṭāmiḥah
And aspire toward what pleases them
30
إِلٰهِيْ لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِقُدْرَتِكَ
ilāhī lā ḥawla walā quwwata illā biqudratik
My God, there is no power nor strength except through Your power
31
وَلَا نَجَاةَ لِيْ مِنْ مَكَارِهِ الدُّنْيَا إِلَّا بِعِصْمَتِكَ
walā najāta lī min makārihid dunyā illā bi`iṣmatik
And there is no salvation for me from the hardships of this world except through Your protection
32
فَأَسْأَلُكَ بِبَلاغَةِ حِكْمَتِكَ
fa-as-aluka bibalāghati ḥikmatik
So I ask You by the eloquence of Your wisdom
33
وَنَفَاذِ مَشِيَّتِكَ
wanafādhi mashiyyatik
And the implementation of Your will
34
أَنْ لَا تَجْعَلْنِيْ لِغَيْرِ جُودِكَ مُتَعَرِّضًا
an lā taj`alnī lighayri jūdika muta`arriḍā
Not to make me seek from anyone other than Your generosity
35
وَلَا تُصَيِّرْنِيْ لِلْفِتَنِ غَرَضًا
walā tuṣayyir-nī lilfitani gharaḍā
And not to make me a target for tribulations
36
وَكُنْ لِيْ عَلَى الْاَعْدَاءِ نَاصِرًا
wakun lī `alal a`dā-i nāṣirā
Be for me a helper against enemies
37
وَعَلَى الْمَخَازِيْ وَالْعُيُوبِ سَاتِرًا
wa`alal makhāzī wal`uyūbi sātirā
And a concealer of my disgraces and faults
38
وَمِنَ الْبَلايَا وَاقِيًا
waminal balāyā wāqiyā
And a protector from afflictions
39
وَعَنِ الْمَعَاصِيْ عَاصِمًا
wa`anil ma`āṣī `āṣimā
And a defender against sins
40
بِرَأْفَتِكَ وَرَحْمَتِكَ
bira-fatika waraḥmatik
By Your kindness and mercy
41
يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ
yā ar-ḥamar rāḥimīn
O Most Merciful of the merciful ones
