بِسْمِ اللَّـهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm
In the name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ
allāhumma ṣalli `alā muḥammadin wa āli muḥammad
O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad
1
إِلَهِيْ هَدَيْتَنِيْ فَلَهَوْتُ
ilahī hadaytanī falahawt
My God, You guided me but I became distracted
2
وَ وَعَظْتَ فَقَسَوْتُ
wa wa`aẓta faqasawt
You admonished me but I hardened my heart
3
وَ أَبْلَيْتَ الْجَمِيلَ فَعَصَيْتُ
wa ablaytal jamīla fa`aṣayt
You bestowed upon me beautiful favors but I disobeyed
4
ثُمَّ عَرَفْتُ مَا أَصْدَرْتَ
thumma `araftu mā aṣdar-t
Then I recognized what I had done
5
إِذْ عَرَّفْتَنِيهِ، فَاسْتَغْفَرْتُ فَأَقَلْتَ، فَعُدْتُ فَسَتَرْتَ
idh `arraftanīh, fastaghfar-tu fa-aqalt, fa`udtu fasatar-t
When You made me realize it, I sought forgiveness and You pardoned me, I returned to sin and You veiled me
6
فَلَكَ إِلَهِيْ الْحَمْدُ
falaka ilahil ḥamd
So to You, my God, belongs all praise
7
تَقَحَّمْتُ أَوْدِيَةَ الْهَلَاكِ
taqaḥḥamtu awdiyatal halāk
I plunged into valleys of destruction
8
وَ حَلَلْتُ شِعَابَ تَلَفٍ تَعَرَّضْتُ فِيهَا لِسَطَوَاتِكَ
wa ḥalaltu shi`āba talafin ta`arraḍtu fīhā lisaṭawātik
And descended into ravines of ruin, exposing myself to Your punishments
9
وَ بِحُلُوْلِهَا عُقُوبَاتِكَ
wa biḥulūlihā `uqūbātik
And by entering them, to Your penalties
10
وَ وَسِيْلَتِيْ إِلَيْكَ التَّوْحِيدُ
wa wasīlatī ilaykat tawḥīd
And my means to You is monotheism
11
وَ ذَرِيْعَتِيْ أَنِّيْ لَمْ أُشْرِكْ بِكَ شَيْئًا
wa dharī`atī annī lam ushrik bika shay-ā
And my path is that I have not associated anything with You
12
وَ لَمْ أَتَّخِذْ مَعَكَ إِلَهًا
wa lam attakhidh ma`aka ilahā
And I have not taken any god besides You
13
وَ قَدْ فَرَرْتُ إِلَيْكَ بِنَفْسِي
wa qad farar-tu ilayka binafsī
And I have fled to You with myself
14
وَ إِلَيْكَ مَفَرُّ المُسِيءِ
wa ilayka mafarrul musī
And to You is the escape of the wrongdoer
15
وَ مَفْزَعُ الْمُضَيِّعِ لِحَظِّ نَفْسِهِ الْمُلْتَجِي
wa mafza`ul muḍayyi`i liḥaẓẓi nafsihil multajī
And the refuge of one who has squandered his share and seeks protection
16
فَكَمْ مِنْ عَدُوٍّ انْتَضَى عَلَيَّ سَيْفَ عَدَاوَتِهِ
fakam min `aduwwinntaḍā `alayya sayfa `adāwatih
How many enemies have drawn the sword of enmity against me
17
وَ شَحَذَ لِيْ ظُبَةَ مُدْيَتِهِ
wa shaḥadha lī ẓubata mudyatih
And sharpened the edge of their blades for me
18
وَ أَرْهَفَ لِيْ شَبَا حَدِّهِ
wa ar-hafa lī shabā ḥaddih
And honed the sharpness of their edge for me
19
وَ دَافَ لِيْ قَوَاتِلَ سُمُومِهِ
wa dāfa lī qawātila sumūmih
And prepared deadly poisons for me
20
وَ سَدَّدَ نَحْوِيْ صَوَائِبَ سِهَامِهِ
wa saddada naḥwī ṣawā-iba sihāmih
And aimed their accurate arrows toward me
21
وَ لَمْ تَنَمْ عَنِّيْ عَيْنُ حِرَاسَتِهِ
wa lam tanam `annī `aynu ḥirāsatih
And the eye of their vigilance did not sleep from watching me
22
وَ أَضْمَرَ أَنْ يَسُومَنِيْ الْمَكْرُوهَ وَ يُجَرِّعَنِيْ زُعَاقَ مَرَارَتِهِ
wa aḍmara an yasūmanil makrūha wa yujarri`anī zu`āqa marāratih
And they intended to make me suffer harm and to make me drink the bitterness of their torment
23
فَنَظَرْتَ يَا إِلَهِيْ إِلَى ضَعْفِيْ عَنِ احْتِمَالِ الْفَوَادِحِ
fanaẓar-ta yā ilahī ilā ḍa`fī `aniḥtimālil fawādiḥ
Then You looked, my God, at my weakness in bearing calamities
24
وَ عَجْزِيْ عَنِ الِانْتِصَارِ مِمَّنْ قَصَدَنِيْ بِمُحَارَبَتِهِ
wa `ajzī `anil intiṣāri mimman qaṣadanī bimuḥārabatih
And my inability to defend myself against those who sought to wage war against me
25
وَ وَحْدَتِيْ فِيْ كَثِيرِ عَدَدِ مَنْ نَاوَانِي
wa waḥdatī fī kathīri `adadi man nāwānī
And my solitude against the great numbers of those who opposed me
26
وَ أَرْصَدَ لِيْ بِالْبَلَاءِ فِيمَا لَمْ أُعْمِلْ فِيهِ فِكْرِي
wa ar-ṣada lī bil balā-i fīmā lam u`mil fīhi fikrī
And prepared affliction for me in matters I had not even considered
27
فَابْتَدَأْتَنِيْ بِنَصْرِكَ
fabtada-tanī binaṣrik
So You began by granting me Your support
28
وَ شَدَدْتَ أَزْرِيْ بِقُوَّتِكَ
wa shadadta azrī biquwwatik
And You strengthened my back with Your power
29
ثُمَّ فَلَلْتَ لِيْ حَدَّهُ
thumma falalta lī ḥaddah
Then You blunted their blades for me
30
وَ صَيَّرْتَهُ مِنْ بَعْدِ جَمْعٍ عَدِيدٍ وَحْدَهُ
wa ṣayyar-tahu min ba`di jam`in `adīdin waḥdah
And after they were many in number, You made them solitary
31
وَ أَعْلَيْتَ كَعْبِيْ عَلَيْهِ
wa a`layta ka`bī `alayh
And You raised my stature above them
32
وَ جَعَلْتَ مَا سَدَّدَهُ مَرْدُودًا عَلَيْهِ
wa ja`alta mā saddadahu mar-dūdan `alayh
And what they aimed, You returned against them
33
فَرَدَدْتَهُ لَمْ يَشْفِ غَيْظَهُ
faradadtahu lam yashfi ghayẓah
So You repelled them and their rage was not satisfied
34
وَ لَمْ يَسْكُنْ غَلِيلُهُ
wa lam yaskun ghalīluh
And their burning thirst was not quenched
35
قَدْ عَضَّ عَلَى شَوَاهُ
qad `aḍḍa `alā shawāh
They bit their fingertips in rage
36
وَ أَدْبَرَ مُوَلِّيًا قَدْ أَخْلَفَتْ سَرَايَاهُ
wa adbara muwalliyan qad akhlafat sarāyāh
And retreated in defeat, their forces having failed
37
وَ كَمْ مِنْ بَاغٍ بَغَانِيْ بِمَكَايِدِهِ
wa kam min bāghin baghānī bimakāyidih
How many oppressors sought to oppress me with their plots
38
وَ نَصَبَ لِيْ شَرَكَ مَصَايِدِهِ
wa naṣaba lī sharaka maṣāyidih
And set up traps to catch me
39
وَ وَكَّلَ بِيْ تَفَقُّدَ رِعَايَتِهِ
wa wakkala bī tafaqquda ri`āyatih
And assigned someone to constantly watch me
40
وَ أَضْبَأَ إِلَيَّ إِضْبَاءَ السَّبُعِ لِطَرِيدَتِهِ
wa aḍba-a ilayya iḍbā-as sabu`i liṭarīdatih
And lay in wait for me like a predator for its prey
41
إِنْتِظَارًا لِانْتِهَازِ الْفُرْصَةِ لِفَرِيسَتِهِ
intiẓāran lintihāzil fur-ṣati lifarīsatih
Waiting to seize the opportunity for its kill
42
وَ هُوَ يُظْهِرُ لِيْ بَشَاشَةَ الْمَلَقِ
wa huwa yuẓhiru lī bashāshatal malaq
While showing me a friendly face with flattery
43
وَ يَنْظُرُنِيْ عَلَى شِدَّةِ الْحَنَقِ
wa yanẓurunī `alā shiddatil ḥanaq
But looking at me with intense hatred
44
فَلَمَّا رَأَيْتَ يَا إِلَهِيْ تَبَارَكْتَ وَ تَعَالَيْتَ دَغَلَ سَرِيرَتِهِ
falammā ra-ayta yā ilahī tabārakta wa ta`ālayta daghala sarīratih
When You saw, O my God, blessed and exalted are You, the corruption of his inner thoughts
45
وَ قُبْحَ مَا انْطَوَى عَلَيْهِ، أَرْكَسْتَهُ لِأُمِّ رَأْسِهِ فِيْ زُبْيَتِهِ
wa qubḥa manṭawā `alayh, ar-kastahu li-ummi ra-sihi fī zubyatih
And the ugliness of what he concealed, You threw him headfirst into his own pit
46
وَ رَدَدْتَهُ فِيْ مَهْوَى حُفْرَتِهِ
wa radadtahu fī mahwā ḥufratih
And returned him to the depths of his own hole
47
فَانْقَمَعَ بَعْدَ اسْتِطَالَتِهِ ذَلِيْلًا فِيْ رِبَقِ حِبَالَتِهِ
fanqama`a ba`dastiṭālatihi dhalīlan fī ribaqi ḥibālatih
So he was suppressed after his dominance, humiliated in the noose of his own trap
48
اَلَّتِيْ كَانَ يُقَدِّرُ أَنْ يَرَانِيْ فِيهَا
al latī kāna yuqaddiru an yarānī fīhā
Which he had estimated to see me in
49
وَ قَدْ كَادَ أَنْ يَحُلَّ بِيْ لَوْلَا رَحْمَتُكَ مَا حَلَّ بِسَاحَتِهِ
wa qad kāda an yaḥulla bī lawlā raḥmatuka mā ḥalla bisāḥatih
And he would have afflicted me had it not been for Your mercy, with what befell him instead
50
وَ كَمْ مِنْ حَاسِدٍ قَدْ شَرِقَ بِيْ بِغُصَّتِهِ
wa kam min ḥāsidin qad shariqa bī bighuṣṣatih
And how many envious ones choked on their distress because of me
51
وَ شَجِيَ مِنِّيْ بِغَيْظِهِ، وَ سَلَقَنِيْ بِحَدِّ لِسَانِهِ
wa shajiya minnī bighayẓih, wa salaqanī biḥaddi lisānih
And were grieved with rage toward me, and wounded me with the sharpness of their tongue
52
وَ وَحَرَنِيْ بِقَرْفِ عُيُوبِهِ
wa waḥaranī biqar-fi `uyūbih
And charged me with their own flaws
53
وَ جَعَلَ عِرْضِيْ غَرَضًا لِمَرَامِيهِ
wa ja`ala `ir-ḍī gharaḍan limarāmīh
And made my honor a target for their arrows
54
وَ قَلَّدَنِيْ خِلَالًا لَمْ تَزَلْ فِيهِ
wa qalladanī khilālan lam tazal fīh
And attributed to me traits that were actually theirs
55
وَ وَحَرَنِيْ بِكَيْدِهِ، وَ قَصَدَنِيْ بِمَكِيدَتِهِ
wa waḥaranī bikaydih, wa qaṣadanī bimakīdatih
And wounded me with their deceit, and aimed at me with their plots
56
فَنَادَيْتُكَ يَا إِلَهِيْ مُسْتَغِيثًا بِكَ
fanādaytuka yā ilahī mustaghīthan bik
So I called out to You, my God, seeking Your help
57
وَاثِقًا بِسُرْعَةِ إِجَابَتِكَ
wāthiqan bisur-`ati ijābatik
Confident in the swiftness of Your response
58
عَالِمًا أَنَّهُ لَا يُضْطَهَدُ مَنْ أَوَى إِلَى ظِلِّ كَنَفِكَ
`āliman annahu lā yuḍṭahadu man awā ilā ẓilli kanafik
Knowing that whoever seeks refuge in Your protection will not be oppressed
59
وَ لَا يَفْزَعُ مَنْ لَجَأَ إِلَى مَعْقِلِ انْتِصَارِكَ
wa lā yafza`u man laja-a ilā ma`qilintiṣārik
And whoever takes shelter in Your stronghold will not be frightened
60
فَحَصَّنْتَنِيْ مِنْ بَأْسِهِ بِقُدْرَتِكَ
faḥaṣṣantanī min ba-sihi biqudratik
So You protected me from their harm by Your power
61
وَ كَمْ مِنْ سَحَائِبِ مَكْرُوهٍ جَلَّيْتَهَا عَنِّي
wa kam min saḥā-ibi makrūhin jallaytahā `annī
How many clouds of misfortune You cleared away from me
62
وَ سَحَائِبِ نِعَمٍ أَمْطَرْتَهَا عَلَيَّ
wa saḥā-ibi ni`amin amṭar-tahā `alayy
And clouds of blessings You rained upon me
63
وَ جَدَاوِلِ رَحْمَةٍ نَشَرْتَهَا
wa jadāwili raḥmatin nashar-tahā
And streams of mercy You spread
64
وَ عَافِيَةٍ أَلْبَسْتَهَا، وَ أَعْيُنِ أَحْدَاثٍ طَمَسْتَهَا
wa `āfiyatin albastahā, wa a`yuni aḥdāthin ṭamastahā
And wellbeing You clothed me with, and evil eyes You blinded
65
وَ غَوَاشِيَ كُرُبَاتٍ كَشَفْتَهَا
wa ghawāshiya kurubātin kashaftahā
And coverings of distress You removed
66
وَ كَمْ مِنْ ظَنٍّ حَسَنٍ حَقَّقْتَ، وَ عَدَمٍ جَبَرْتَ
wa kam min ẓannin ḥasanin ḥaqqaqt, wa `adamin jabar-t
How many good expectations You fulfilled, and poverty You remedied
67
وَ صَرْعَةٍ أَنْعَشْتَ وَ مَسْكَنَةٍ حَوَّلْتَ
wa ṣar-`atin an`ashta wa maskanatin ḥawwalt
And falls You helped me up from, and hardship You transformed
68
كُلُّ ذٰلِكَ إِنْعَامًا وَ تَطَوُّلًا مِنْكَ
kullu dhālika in`āman wa taṭawwulan mink
All of this as a favor and kindness from You
69
وَ فِيْ جَمِيْعِهِ انْهِمَاكًا مِنِّيْ عَلَى مَعَاصِيكَ
wa fī jamī`ihinhimākan minnī `alā ma`āṣīk
And throughout it all, I was immersed in disobeying You
70
لَمْ تَمْنَعْكَ إِسَاءَتِيْ عَنْ إِتْمَامِ إِحْسَانِكَ
lam tamna`ka isā-atī `an itmāmi iḥsānik
My wrongdoing did not prevent You from completing Your kindness
71
وَ لَا حَجَرَنِيْ ذٰلِكَ عَنِ ارْتِكَابِ مَسَاخِطِكَ
wa lā ḥajaranī dhālika `anir-tikābi masākhiṭik
Nor did that stop me from committing what displeases You
72
لَا تُسْأَلُ عَمَّا تَفْعَلُ، وَ لَقَدْ سُئِلْتَ فَأَعْطَيْتَ
lā tus-alu `ammā taf`al, wa laqad su-ilta fa-a`ṭayt
You are not questioned about what You do, and indeed You were asked and You gave
73
وَ لَمْ تُسْأَلْ فَابْتَدَأْتَ، وَ اسْتُمِيحَ فَضْلُكَ فَمَا أَكْدَيْتَ
wa lam tus-al fabtada-t, wastumīḥa faḍluka famā akdayt
And You were not asked but You initiated, and Your bounty was sought and You did not withhold
74
أَبَيْتَ يَا مَوْلَايَ إِلَّا إِحْسَانًا
abayta yā mawlāya illā iḥsānā
You refused, O my Master, except to be benevolent
75
وَ امْتِنَانًا وَ تَطَوُّلًا وَ إِنْعَامًا
wamtinānan wa taṭawwulan wa in`āmā
And to bestow favors and to be gracious and to bless
76
وَ أَبَيْتُ إِلَّا تَقَحُّمًا لِحُرُمَاتِكَ
wa abaytu illā taqaḥḥuman liḥurumātik
And I refused except to violate Your sanctities
77
وَ تَعَدِّيًا لِحُدُودِكَ، وَ غَفْلَةً عَنْ وَعِيدِكَ
wa ta`addiyan liḥudūdik, wa ghaflatan `an wa`īdik
And to transgress Your limits, and to be heedless of Your warnings
78
فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ إِلَهِيْ مِنْ مُقْتَدِرٍ لَا يُغْلَبُ
falakal ḥamdu ilahī min muqtadirin lā yughlab
So to You belongs all praise, my God, as the All-Powerful who cannot be overcome
79
وَ ذِيْ أَنَاةٍ لَا يَعْجَلُ
wa dhī anātin lā ya`jal
And the Forbearing who does not act hastily
80
هَذَا مَقَامُ مَنِ اعْتَرَفَ بِسُبُوغِ النِّعَمِ
hadhā maqāmu mani`tarafa bisubūghin ni`am
This is the position of one who acknowledges the abundance of blessings
81
وَ قَابَلَهَا بِالتَّقْصِيرِ، وَ شَهِدَ عَلَى نَفْسِهِ بِالتَّضْيِيعِ
wa qābalahā bittaqṣīr, wa shahida `alā nafsihi bittaḍyī`
Yet met them with shortcomings, and testifies against himself of wasting them
82
اَللَّهُمَّ فَإِنِّيْ أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَيْكَ بِالْمُحَمَّدِيَّةِ الرَّفِيعَةِ
allāhumma fa-innī ataqarrabu ilayka bil muḥammadiyyatir rafī`ah
O Allah, I seek nearness to You through the exalted Muhammadan way
83
وَ الْعَلَوِيَّةِ الْبَيْضَاءِ، وَ أَتَوَجَّهُ إِلَيْكَ بِهِمَا
wal `alawiyyatil bayḍā-i, wa atawajjahu ilayka bihimā
And the radiant Alawite path, and I turn to You through them
84
أَنْ تُعِيذَنِيْ مِنْ شَرِّ كَذَا وَ كَذَا، فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ
an tu`īdhanī min sharri kadhā wa kadhā, fa-inna dhalik
That You protect me from the evil of such and such, for indeed that
85
لَا يَضِيقُ عَلَيْكَ فِيْ وُجْدِكَ
lā yaḍīqu `alayka fī wujdik
Is not difficult for You in Your abundance
86
وَ لَا يَتَكَأَّدُكَ فِيْ قُدْرَتِكَ
wa lā yataka-aduka fī qudratik
And does not burden You in Your power
87
وَ أَنْتَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
wa anta `alā kulli shay-in qadīr
And You have power over all things
88
فَهَبْ لِيْ يَا إِلَهِيْ مِنْ رَحْمَتِكَ وَ دَوَامِ تَوْفِيقِكَ
fahab lī yā ilahī min raḥmatika wa dawāmi tawfīqik
So grant me, O my God, from Your mercy and continuous success
89
مَا أَتَّخِذُهُ سُلَّمًا أَعْرُجُ بِهِ إِلَى رِضْوَانِكَ
mā attakhidhuhu sullaman a`ruju bihi ilā riḍwānik
What I may take as a ladder to ascend to Your pleasure
90
وَ آمَنُ بِهِ مِنْ عِقَابِكَ، يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِيْنَ
wa-āmanu bihi min `iqābik, yā ar-ḥamar rāḥimīn
And by which I may be safe from Your punishment, O Most Merciful of the merciful ones
